Reader’s Links for March 3, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Biden administration locks ICE Twitter account

    4-5 minutes

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) locked one of its Twitter accounts Tuesday, halting all public safety alerts on illegal migrants in the U.S. with criminal backgrounds.

The account, created in 2013 and bolstered under the Trump administration, was used to post details about known “fugitives,” including their name, nationality, criminal history and the U.S. jurisdiction where they were released.

“It seems the Biden Admin locked [ICE Alerts] because if you were to report the location of one of these dangerous aliens to ICE, it would become too obvious that these assaulters, drug dealers, thieves, and drunk drivers are now allowed to go free under Biden’s policies,” former senior advisor to ICE, Jon Feere, wrote on Twitter Tuesday.

China Starts Mass Book Burnings of Religious Texts

(ConservativeInsider.org) – While China’s Constitution may say it gives the “freedom of religious belief” and right to participate in “normal religious activities” to its citizens, the reality is far from that. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been burning religious books and persecuting those of faith for years. Recently, their efforts have been getting more strict and destructive.
The CCP’s History of Persecuting Religious and Spiritual Persons

In the late 1990s, the CCP began its campaign against Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that focuses on kindness, honesty, and patience through meditation. They labeled followers of the discipline as state enemies and tortured them while destroying any materials they found supporting the practice.

Multiple reports show the CCP continues to offer rewards for those who turn in followers or information related to Falun Gong.

An FBI official on Wednesday testified at a Senate hearing that she has no knowledge of any guns being recovered from suspects who were arrested during the Jan. 6 Capitol breach.

When asked by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) about whether firearms were recovered or if any suspect was charged with firearms offenses, FBI counterterrorism chief Jill Sanborn responded: “To my knowledge, none.”

But in the hearing, Sanborn also said that before the Jan. 6 incident, “We knew they would be armed, we had intelligence that they would be coming to DC, but we did not have intelligence that they would be breaching the Capitol.”

  4. Report: Supreme Court Seems To Favor Upholding Key Election Integrity Laws

The Supreme Court seems to be leaning in favor of upholding Arizona election integrity laws that were struck down by a lower court for alleged racial discrimination, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

The Post’s U.S. Supreme Court reporter Robert Barnes made the assessment after gaging a two-hour teleconference hearing on two vital voting cases: Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee and Arizona Republican Party v. Democratic National Committee.

“It would not be a surprise to see the high court disagree with a lower-court ruling and leave the restrictions in place,” Barnes said.

Back to finish the job with his third term.

I’ve written thousands of columns and commentaries. This is the most important I’ve ever written.

This is my chance to play the modern-day Paul Revere. “The commies are coming. The commies are coming.” Yes, I am reporting a communist takeover. But the leader of this attack is not who it appears to be.

Republicans, conservatives and capitalists are sick right about now. We’re in shock. We can’t believe Donald Trump is no longer president. We can’t believe Americans voted against the greatest economy — perhaps in history — the greatest jobs picture ever, the greatest improvement in middle-class incomes ever and the greatest economic comeback ever, which Trump produced after the COVID-19 lockdown and economic collapse. Remember 33% gross domestic product in Q3 2020? That was the biggest number in history. Who would vote against all that? You’d have to be self-hating and suicidal.

The Communist Takeover of the United States? – Frontpagemag

    The floodgates are open.

This is part deux of my series on the communist takeover of the United States. Part one, last week’s column, centered on the real new president: Barack Obama. I do believe the new president is, in fact, the old president. This is the third term of Obama.

The first time around, Obama tried his best to destroy America, American exceptionalism, our Judeo-Christian values, our capitalist economic system, our health care system (17.7% of the U.S. economy in 2019) and the great American middle class.

Obama gave it his best shot. He crippled America, but he couldn’t quite finish the job. He needed Hillary Clinton to be elected to do that, but we all know how that turned out. Former President Donald Trump managed to bring out the biggest turnout of white middle-class voters in history for the 2016 election. Obama vowed to never let that happen again.

“The prosecutors department in the Sicilian city of Trapani has notified three NGOs involved in rescuing migrants at sea and 21 individuals that it has concluded an investigation into alleged aiding of illegal immigration.
This move usually comes before prosecutors request indictments.
The NGOs are Save the Children, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and German organization Jugend Rettet.
The Iuventa ship, which was running migrant-rescue operations for Jugend Rettet, was put under sequester in 2017 in relation to the probe.
MSF said the notification came a day after a Catania judge had sent it to trial for alleged felonies related to trash during its rescue operations.
“The decisions made by the judiciary within hours of each other come on top of numerous attempts to criminalize sea rescues,” MSF said.
“Up to now none of the accusations have been confirmed but the capacity to rescue has been dangerously weakened”. (ANSA).”

  7. What is behind the increase in gang violence in France?
    https://www.france24.com/en/france/20210303-what-is-behind-the-increase-in-gang-violence-in-france

“France has been alarmed over recent weeks by a spate of killings of young people in gang violence in the Paris region during the school holidays. Experts say that the role of social media and the economic effects of the Covid-19 crisis are major factors behind this phenomenon.

The most recent killing to shake France was that of Aymane, 15, who was shot in the troubled Seine-Saint-Denis suburbs outside Paris on February 26. He was the third teenager in less than a week to have died in gang violence in the Paris suburbs – with the alleged perpetrators, two brothers aged 17 and 27, charged on March 1.

This came just a few days after two 14-year-olds, a boy and a girl, were killed in the suburban county of Essonne to the other side of Paris. They were stabbed to death in two different brawls between young people from rival gangs.

“It’s not surprising that the most serious problems take place during the school holidays, because during this time they have to go without the forms of social support they usually rely on, such as sport clubs and youth centres,” Yazid Kherfi, a former robber who turned away from crime and has worked in youth crime prevention since 2012, told FRANCE 24.

    ‘Fear of reprisals’

Thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic and the 6pm to 6am curfew that France has instituted to try to deal with it, “in these neighbourhoods there aren’t any places open at night,” Kherfi continued. “Right now I can’t go and meet young people at risk of turning to violence because of Covid-19 restrictions.”

In response to this spate of killings, the French interior, justice and education ministers convened on March 1 to officially put the government on alert against this phenomenon.

Gang warfare among young people is on the rise, interior ministry statistics show: France recorded some 357 incidents in 2020 compared to 288 the previous year. The interior ministry has identified 74 gangs throughout the country – including 46 in the Paris region.

These figures likely represent an underestimation of the scale of the problem, Thomas Sauvadet, a sociologist and author of a study on youth gang warfare, Le Capital Guerrier (“Our Warlike Capital”), told FRANCE 24: “The police only record the most serious incidents, while many victims shy away from filing complaints out of fear of reprisals.”

Sauvadet added that “about 10 percent of young men under 30 living in underprivileged areas in the Paris region belong to a gang”, according to statistics he collated. “These gangs are largely composed of young people who have known each other from an early age, sometimes from seven to 10 years old. Then they tend to have difficulties at school in adolescence, sometimes with family issues that they seek to flee – and often professional difficulties follow that. So these young people band together to form gangs and find themselves in a state of conflict with those around them, including social workers.”

“These young people come together in these gangs and they feel like it gives them a sense of identity as well as protecting them,” Kherfi added. “They often suffer from quite bad economic insecurity, because they tend to come from relatively poor families. But there is also a sense of physical insecurity, because social media make it much easier to relay threats.”

“People can hurl abuse at each other much more easily through the virtual network of social media,” Kherfi continued. “And the virtual violence of these insults can end up turning into actual physical violence when those involved meet face-to-face.”

Sauvadet agreed with this observation – adding that social networks have encouraged gang violence by making it easier to organise.

‘We need 10 times the current budget’

The French government is taking the role of social media seriously. It wants to use local networks of borough councils, the police and schools to monitor social networks to stop them being used as platforms engendering gang violence – one of several measures put forward by the interior and justice ministries.

But Sauvadet argued that this will not be enough, because social media accelerated a cultural phenomenon that had already taken root. “Powered by American popular culture, gang culture has become mainstream,” he said, adding that it has been trivialised by US rappers and influencers, and “has even been taken over by multinationals, such as a famous sports brand, which used a kind of gang aesthetic to sell a clothing line to young people”.

Several other factors have also contributed to the increase in gang violence, notably the emergence of mass youth unemployment starting in the 1980s. “There are plenty of people in their twenties who still live with their parents, and many of them have been stuck in gangs since they were teenagers amid economic precarity,” Sauvadet said. “They become the network heads who influence those beneath them in the hierarchy, serving as role models for teenagers who turn to violence.”

A lack of social workers dedicated to preventing gang violence is another big problem, Kherfi and Sauvadet agreed.

“When you’ve got three working in a place where 5,000 people live, that’s seen as a luxury,” Sauvadet said. “We’d need 10 times the current budget for it to be effective.”

Even so, “social workers cannot by themselves solve all of society’s problems”, Sauvadet said. “We’ve also got to look ay the economic roots of drug consumption and trafficking, youth unemployment and housing problems.”

The government’s plan to fight gangs is scheduled to come into force on May 1. It includes measures focusing on beefing up policing as well as policies aimed at tackling the causes of gang violence – notably by increasing monitoring of truancy.”

  8. (Richard: As she points out 1) given the number of police and Guard Troops in DC if anyone does anything on the 4th it is because they were allowed to. She also points out that if they are serious they will be equipped with a combined arms unit that has Air, Armor and Infantry units, nothing else stands a chance of getting to the Capital. If they have a combined arms capability can they carry out their operation before the Military bases near DC respond with overwhelming force?)

Note: Report that ‘militia’ group is planning attack on U.S. Capitol makes no sense

    Fox 5 D.C. video

As always, it’s difficult to divine exactly what’s going on. But the important thing that can’t be going on is a foreseen but uninterdicted attempt by an actual, “identified” militia group to actually breach the U.S. Capitol complex.

Although most people understand this, I think, it’s worth briefly going through why this tale has no hope of being true. (Regarding the quick understanding, just ask the obvious question of the Capitol Police: “If you know this, why are you just whining to the public about it?”)

The report is that, as summarized by NPR, “The U.S. Capitol Police says that it is aware of a threat by an identified militia group to breach the Capitol complex on Thursday.”

Quoting a statement from the Capitol Police, NPR reiterates: the USCP “obtained intelligence that shows a possible plot to breach the Capitol by an identified militia group on Thursday, March 4.”

  11. Yemen’s Houthis Claim Control Over Majority of Marib, Government’s Last Northern Stronghold
    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/202103041082248663-yemens-houthis-claim-control-over-majority-of-marib-governments-last-northern-stronghold/

“The Saudi-led coalition has waged an unrelenting air campaign against the Houthis since 2015 that has nonetheless failed to stop the Houthis’ slow accumulation of territory, much less caused its collapse. However, it has created the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, according to the UN.

The Yemeni Houthi movement has claimed to control most of Marib, a key city in northern Yemen the militant group has attempted to capture for more than a year.

“Most of Marib is now in the hands of the [Houthis],” Hussein al-Ezzi, the Houthis’ deputy foreign minister, told CNN Wednesday.
“There are 14 districts that make up Marib, only two are controlled by the [internationally recognized government] including the city center, two others are battlefields and the rest of the districts are under Houthi control,” he added.

The city sits on the eastern flank of Houthi territory, about 120 kilometers east of the capital of Sana’a, and is the largest city in northern Yemen still controlled by the government of President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi, who was ousted in early 2015 by the Houthi movement. However, it is also the capital of an oil-rich governorate and a key logistics hub for the region.
Amid a renewed offensive last month, government forces supported by the Saudi-led coalition against the Houthis rushed into Marib to defend the city; the Houthis claimed Daesh forces were among them.

The city has been a haven for refugees fleeing the conflict in other areas and its population has swollen far beyond its modest peacetime population of 16,000, and as the Houthis have closed in, there have been concerns about a large exodus of civilians amid an already-disastrous humanitarian situation.
“Ma’rib Governorate already hosts an estimated one million Internally Displaced Persons [IDPs] – the largest IDP population in Yemen according to local authorities – and some live in approximately 125 IDP sites,” the United Nations’ International Organization for Migration said on February 27.

The Houthis have said the Marib operation is essential to their push for the Saudi-led coalition to end its blockade of Yemen, which is responsible for greatly exacerbating the humanitarian crisis by restricting food and medicine imports. More than 100,000 people have died in the conflict, nearly all of them Yemenis, and millions more are threatened with hunger and diseases such as dysentery and cholera, in addition to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, some have challenged the Houthis’ claims. Ali Al-Sakani, a former journalist for Al-Masdar News and regular commentator on the activities of the Yemeni government, said on Wednesday that the Houthis had only captured five of Marib’s districts, two of which it has controlled since the start of the conflict in 2015.”
