Reader’s Links for February 7, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Coming to the West near you(if not there already):
    Abandon All Hope
    by Hannes Wessels
As South Africa gathers steam and speed on the road to ruin a sense of hopelessness is taking grip.

Where is the opposition the country so desperately needs? I feel terribly sorry for John Steenhuisen who speaks little but sense and is trying so hard to rally his troops, but I fear he is pushing water up a mountain. I also feel very sorry for Helen Zille who gave her all to provide her country with a very attractive political option and received so little credit for it. Mistakes she may have made, but unlike virtually every other politician in this country, and indeed much of the world, she was never in it for selfish reasons; she tried to find a way to bring the ruling party to heel and also saved the Western Cape, but this seems lost on most. So distressing that some of her most vociferous critics were the crop of woke, white, pseudo-liberal journalists and columnists who have joined the world-wide-web of white-people-haters and constantly need to update their credentials. The fact that she finds a place in a book as one of ‘Fifty People Who F….d Up South Africa’ tells me the authors had to take a low blow at someone with a white skin to ward off charges of ‘racism’ and so they went for her.

With the DA marginalised, many of us have looked to the press to stop the rot by exposing the alleged crimes of the people in power by providing the evidence needed for them to be called to account and thereby curb the bad behaviour. Well, in my view, some very brave men and women have risen to that challenge. Almost since the ‘new dawn’ in 1994, with the ‘arms deal’ revelations, they have worked assiduously to bring to the public attention, the malfeasance of the people elected to govern. Unfortunately, their efforts have been largely in vain.

The most obvious reason is the almost total lack of response from those charged with enforcing the law of the land. In the 26 years of ANC rule, hundreds of billions, maybe trillions have been stolen, politically motivated murders have been committed, thousands of lives have been ruined and nary a prosecution despite an abundance of compelling evidence. As I write, we are witness to Ace Magashule and Jacob Zuma making it abundantly clear that they and the people they govern with, along with their associates, are above the law and not even a ruling from the highest court in the land, appears enforceable, when it does not suit the agenda of the former president. But the other reason is that, unlike their despised predecessors, the incumbents appear to have no shame. I remember, arguably the most serious financial scandal of the Nationalist Party rule was the ‘Infogate’ affair where the press revealed money was being channelled illicitly from one government department to another. It appears that no politician involved was accused of personal enrichment out of abuse of the public purse, but tax-payers money was being used for purposes not approved by parliament. In today’s South Africa, such behaviour is so trifling by comparison with what is happening, it would not turn a hair; but then it bought about the end of the John Vorster premiership and convulsed the government of the day. The big difference is Vorster and those involved with the misappropriation of the funds, were embarrassed, acknowledged their wrongdoing and did what was considered right and honourable, and resigned. Sadly, this mindset does not afflict any of our rulers who seem immune to any sense of shame or remorse.

With lawlessness, a ruling culture that excludes good conscience, and an opposition that can’t get traction almost all the ingredients are in place for failure, but the kicker that pushes us over the edge is the mindset of the majority which makes meaningful political change almost impossible to envisage.

As we have seen throughout the continent, old traditions realities and cultures are not easily, if ever erased, and South Africa is no exception. While Mr. Steenhuisen speaks sensibly and eruditely, and the press make all the gory details easily available to all, these messages fall upon the ears of an almost powerless minority. Amongst them the ongoing revelations cause anger and outrage but it is all lost on the empowered majority. For most of them, even if they do read and listen to the reports, the problem is they react, not with anger and demands for punishment to be meted out, but with quiet acquiescence and even some grudging respect. Unfortunately, this is the ‘African Way’, where there is general acceptance that ‘might is right’, and to the political ‘big-men’ go all the spoils of conquest with no conditions or obligations attached. This is the price paid for trying to impose ‘Western Democracy’ with its alien values, protocols and laws on people who do not accept the merits of the system and therefore cannot be expected to conform to its strictures.

So with all the organs of government collapsing at national, provincial and municipal level, the state coffers being emptied, strong signals being sent that the rule of law will no longer apply and poverty rapidly escalating we must expect no relief. If a general election were held today and Jacob Zuma was reinstated as the head of the ANC, I have no doubt he would storm back to power.

    So … what’s new in post-colonial Africa?

  2. Removal of fossil fuels is purely to control freedom of movement NOT to help out any climate nonsense. It is also to reduce the power of the Arab oil states. Electricity cannot be stored except in rather expensive and heavy batteries. Cut the power grid(Chinese companies already own half of Australia’s supply) and whatever your battery has will be as far as you can manage in a power cut. Trains will be no different and we will be back to the horse and cart of pre steam. Imagine some disaster where you have to flee somewhere?
In communist countries freedom of movement was always removed after freedom of speech.

There’s lot of concern that Jacob Zuma is going to gap it to Russia but if its true, then its another bad idea from a man notorious for terrible ideas. To be a guest of Putin – Edward Snowden refers – you have to be interesting, or fun. Zuma is neither. He’s a teetotaling old crook – an average chess player – whose stories are about as dog-eared as his once supposedly disarming charm. Part of Zuma’s defence strategy involved a threat – repeated ad nauseam – claiming to know where the bodies were buried. When this Kraken was released, it hobbled out in the form of daydreams and blatant lies – the hype of an overactive imagination – not entertaining in the slightest. Besides, with an entourage of assorted skelms the size of his, inevitably an important official’s wife’s bottom will be pinched, it will all kick off, Edward Zuma will go missing never to be seen again and Duduzane will spend the rest of his days chopping wood in Eastern Siberia.

Dubai’s no good either. Messing around with those women results in the sharp end of the kebab knife. Besides, that Sheik over there is shifty, and needs cash all the time – he’ll go through our state capture loot in one afternoon, build a colosseum for Hublot watches featuring the world’s largest slush puppy machine. Zuma could go to Turkey but there’s already one loathed old village chief in residence. The Saudis are still exhausted from Idi Amin’s exile; now Israel is friends with everyone else in the region, Zuma’s paranoia won’t let him sleep. If he starts warming to the idea of Belarus or any former Soviet corner, an intervention would be needed – ideally one that emphasises the history of race relations over the past 25 years in those places – with some examples of their charming football teams.

There is a solution here, and it wouldn’t require too much sacrifice – especially for a man with zero shame. Changing his name to Dorcas – identifying as a persecuted woman (strict lesbian) – would position him in the front of the queue for Joe Biden’s America. Under the Biden Administration’s recent executive orders, Zuma would not only qualify to participate in female track and field – he, sorry, she, could also lead the athletes into the stadium, light the flame. She could go straight into Scotland, into an especially considered position in that shitty wee krankie woman’s government, or Sinn Fein in Northern Ireland, where she and Gerry Adams could talk about electrical stuff like detonators and wiring – and disappeared political allies – all day long.

    **

Consider this: Beijing24 sends over to the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood its Monty Python crack squad led by the Kommissar himself to interview Ms. Dorcas Gedleyihlekisa Zuma, who has just been appointed Minister of Ethics. “ Hullo en kongratulations op jou nuwe job,” he squeaks, “but do you have anything to say to friends of Kwezi?” It might sound like Adriaan has just asked his first serious question in 10 years, but if Dorcas was to reply with: “Luister jy, climate change is real, and I’m on a crusade to jail skeptics,” then she would have penetrated Adriaan’s sweet little social justice instincts – winning over 99.9% of the world’s media – forever. New job with access to tax revenues plus massive victory over long established enemy equals RESULT.

Because there is really no other way. In the event he is ever hauled before the courts, South African’s rightly aggrieved about his abusive relationship with the constitution – as a political leader and as a citizen – will likely be disappointed (that’s just the way it works). No, the more realistic result is that whatever ends up happening – whether he escapes or not – the rest of his life will look just the same as his past. Which is to say, no peace. Real justice is perhaps divine

  6. Greek PM Unhappy with German Sale of Attack Submarines to Turkey (breitbart, Feb 7, 2021)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2021/02/07/greek-pm-unhappy-with-german-sale-of-attack-submarines-to-turkey/

“Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has spoken out against Germany’s plans to export Type 214 Class submarines to Turkey as tensions between the two NATO members are heightened.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis spoke out about the sale of the submarines by the government of German Chancellor Angela Merkel after noting that the United States had brought sanctions against Turkey last year after it purchased the Russian-made S-400 missile system.

“Germany plans to export attack submarines to Turkey. This is an issue which concerns us,” Mitsotakis said during an online conference this week, Greek newspaper I Kathimerini reports.

The German government has largely ignored requests from Greece not to sell Turkey six of the Type 214 Class submarines despite the ongoing tensions caused last year by Turkish aggression in the Eastern Mediterranean, which came close to bringing the two countries into military conflict.

A report from Forbes magazine released late last month noted the construction of the six submarines, along with Turkey’s first locally-built multi-purpose frigate, the TCG Istanbul, which was launched last month.

The report claimed that the Greek navy is lagging behind Turkey, stating, “Athens will almost certainly require newer and more modern warships to counter its rival Turkey’s rapidly growing naval strength.”

According to the Greek City Times, the Greek navy has just four of the type 214 class submarines which are considered to operate silently underwater.

Tensions between Greece and Turkey remain high despite Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan claiming last month that he wanted to improve relations with the European Union, saying: “We are ready to get the relationship back on track. We expect our European friends to show the same goodwill.”

At the same time, Turkish government communications director Fahrettin Altun pushed the policy of the “Blue Homeland,” which states that Turkey has a claim to many of the waters Greece currently considers part of its own territory.”

  7. Illegal Migrants Unhappy with Free Accommodation in ‘Racist’ UK Want to Return to EU (breitbart, Feb 7, 2021)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2021/02/07/migrants-vow-to-go-back-to-europe-claiming-uk-is-racist-and-against-muslims-for-housing-the-in-ex-army-barracks/

“A group of asylum seekers said that they will leave the United Kingdom to go back to the EU, complaining about the supposed racism of being provided with free taxpayer-funded accommodation at former British Army barracks.

In the wake of record-breaking illegal boat migration from France across the English Channel, the Home Office was forced to house some migrants in two former military barracks, one in Wales and the other in Folkestone, Kent.

Following weeks of protests at the Napier Barracks in Kent, culminating in a group of asylum seekers allegedly setting fire to the facility, migrants have complained to the media about the supposedly poor conditions in the camp — which used to be home to uncomplaining British soldiers.

Speaking to the left-wing Independent website, a migrant from Syria said that he has been trying to escape the United Kingdom to Continental Europe on a lorry, claiming he is “not being treated like a human being” by the British government.

“The Home Office is making an effort to make people hate asylum seekers. I cannot stay in this country when the government is pushing people to treat us in this way. I think a lot of others will do the same thing and leave the UK,” the migrant said.

“The journey back is totally dangerous. There are just centimetres between the lorry and the ground. I could lose my arm, leg or my life. But in the UK I am losing my dignity.”

The 22-year-old migrant, who claimed that he initially fled Syria after for fear of being recruited by the Kurdish military, said that he came to Britain because he spoke “some English” and wanted to study aviation.

He went on to accuse the United Kingdom of being a racist country, saying: “I used to think there was no distinction here between a Muslim and a Christian, between black and white. But I realise there is.”

Another Syrian asylum seeker, a 49-year-old man, said that he illegally entered the United Kingdom in July of last year after paying a smuggler 1,000 euros to help him cross the English Channel from France.

The illegal migrant said that he is also planning on trying to get back to the EU, saying: “I did not expect that they would put me in this camp. I am fleeing war. My nerves are tired. Is this a punishment for us? Why is this happening? I want to rest, but it feels like we are being punished. It is inhumane.”

As to where he would prefer to live in Europe, the migrant said: “I will talk to my friends who have homes in other European counties. They were not put into military camps.”

“In Syria, everything is gone. My home was destroyed. I want to feel that I am a human being. I want dignity and freedom. I am looking for safety. I came here because I thought there was no racism in the UK, and that it was a country that protects people’s human rights,” he claimed.

Following the arson at the Napier Barracks, Brexit leader Nigel Farage said that the British public is “sick to the back teeth” of shelling out “billions and billions” on illegal immigration for migrants who expect “four-star hotel” accommodations.

Many migrants, some of them lethally violent, were and are accommodated in hotels at the taxpayers’ expense; a phenomenon which Mr Farage helped to expose.

Commenting on the complaints from migrants about the conditions in the camp, Farage said: “At the Napier Barracks they’ve got safe accommodation, a bed, three square meals a day and the freedom to more or less come and go as they please.”

“I’m sure there are homeless ex-army veterans who would quite like to be looked after like that, but it’s not been good enough for these people,” he added.

In 2020, over 8,400 illegal migrants crossed the English Channel from France, officially — over four times as many as came the prior year.

The Brexit leader predicted thousands more will continue to pour into the country “as soon as the weather gets warmer”, noting that since leaving the EU the UK has not secured any arrangement to deport illegal migrants or failed asylum seekers back to Europe.

While the Boris Johnson administration and Home Secretary Priti Patel had indicated that they would finally resolve the Channel crisis at the end of the 2020 Brexit “transition”, they still appear unwilling to discuss simply taking a unilateral decision to turn illegal migrant boats back at sea, as happens in Australia, for example.”

  8. ‘Ultraviolent’ Underage Migrants Causing Havoc in French Prisons (breitbart, Feb 7, 2021)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2021/02/07/ultraviolent-underage-migrants-causing-havoc-french-prisons/

“Migrant minors are reportedly causing havoc in French prisons and juvenile detention centres, and some doubt the migrants are the age they claim to be.

For the last several months, the number of brawls, rebellions, and verbal assaults has increased in several French prisons, including an arson incident at the notorious Fleury-Mérogis prison last month.

According to a report from French newspaper Le Figaro, many are blaming the surge in violence on the influx of foreign minors, who represent a large number of detentions in recent months.

The migrants are mainly from West and North Africa, with Moroccan nationals being especially prevalent.

Mathieu Vasseur, a member of the prison guards union, alleged that “Most of them are not minors but adults and this is the main problem.”

Mr Vasseur added that “eight out of ten foreign minors are in fact, adults. Adults that are often well into their twenties.”

“There’s a real physical difference between a 15-year-old and a 20-year-old. Many end up telling us their age but will never write it down and refuse to submit to bone tests,” he said.

Sébastien Nicolas, national secretary of the Fo-Direction prison directors union, said he was concerned about the migrants’ behaviour towards other inmates, saying some are violent and rape younger inmates.

Last year, the Paris region of Ile-de-France saw at least 6,300 alleged underage migrant arrests in the year to October, with the whole of 2019 seeing 9,134 arrests. Many of the migrants are said to also be addicted to drugs such as benzodiazepine.

Since the height of the migrant crisis in 2015, Europe has taken in at least 210,000 alleged minor migrants. A 2019 report claimed that they cost the French state as much as two billion euros a year.

France is not the only country to see an influx of underage migrant criminals. A September report claimed that in Spain as many as a quarter of those in juvenile detention were migrants from Morocco alone.”

The timelines always help. On Saturday 30 January, CNN reported that Trump and his first legal team had parted ways, a bare 10 days before his impeachment trial was to start in the Senate. (The report was originally posted on 30 January; the dateline is as of the latest revision, which was on the 31st). Reportedly, Trump was dissatisfied that the team leaders didn’t want to focus on the allegations of fraud about the 2020 election. Their preferred basis for defense was the constitutionality (or unconstitutionality) of the proceeding,

The next day, 31 January, Trump announced the new leaders of his legal team: David Schoen and Bruce Castor, Jr. Discussion at the time, and a Fox News interview on Friday night (5 February), have indicated that the team will bring up the electoral irregularities and fraud allegations in the Senate.

    • Shocking video shows New York’s COVID vaccine hubs are ghost towns

New York City’s 15 vaccination hubs were ghost towns Saturday, and the city’s Department of Health is refusing to reveal just how bad distribution went.

One DOH staffer stationed at the Hillcrest High School hub in Queens on January 30 said he did nothing all day.

“You cannot imagine how much nothing it was,” he said of the demoralising day.

He said there were about 70 workers on hand — some earning overtime pay for 12-hour shifts — and about 10 people to vaccinate.

The worker said several appeals were made to DOH officials to be able to vaccinate people without appointments, and they were denied. He said the hubs had about 400 to 700 doses.

“We could have used that day to vaccinate thousands of people … and we just blew it,” he said

The issue of the empty sites was first brought to light by City Councilman Mark Treyger who tweeted a video of an empty hub at Coney Island’s Lincoln High School.

George Westinghouse Vocational High School in Brooklyn had a similar problem, Councilman Brad Lander tweeted.

A DOH spokesman said the hubs were open “to accommodate a limited number of rescheduled appointments from the prior week.”

But Treyger said he was told the city never updated its web site to reflect availability.

It was another set back for the vaccination program after the city had to close its hubs for four days, from Jan. 21 to 24, because it ran out of supply.

And hubs were also shuttered Monday and Tuesday because of the snowstorm that walloped the city.

The total number of vaccinations given out in the city on Jan. 30 fell by more than half from the previous day, according to the city’s vaccine tracker site.

The city Health Department said it would not allow walk-ins because “doses were in short supply and there were appointments the following day as well.”

It insisted all doses were used by the end of the weekend.

The Lincoln High School hub did allow walk-ins after Treyger tweeted about the problem. “It seemed as if they were planning on just letting the day go by with no one getting vaccinated whatsoever with vaccine doses in a refrigerator, which is unacceptable,” he said.

  17. Trump Mulling Whether to Launch Own Social Media Platform, Says Jason Miller
    By Janita Kan

    biggersmaller Print

Senior adviser to former President Donald Trump, Jason Miller, said on Saturday that Trump is deciding how he will reemerge on social media, including considering whether to create his own platform.

“I would expect that we will see the president reemerge on social media,” Miller told Breitbart News Saturday on SiriusXM 125.

“Whether that’s joining an existing platform or creating his new platform, there are a number of different options and a number of different meetings that they’ve been having on that front. Nothing is imminent on that.”

When pressed for more information about Trump’s social media plans, Miller said “all options are on the table.”

“A number of things are being discussed. So stay tuned there because you know he’s going to be back on social media. We’re just kind of figuring out which avenue makes the most sense,” he said.
