Reader’s Links for February 1, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Swedish LGBT Federation in Hot Water Over Suspected Rape of Young Asylum Seekers (sputniknews, Feb 1, 2021)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/202102011081942891-swedish-lgbt-federation-in-hot-water-over-suspected-rape-of-young-asylum-seekers/

“While enjoying tax support and media attention as a respectable authority, the RFSL is not without controversy, as its members have been advocating paedophilia over the years and have even been convicted of child sex abuse.

The taxpayer-financed Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex rights (RFSL) has landed in hot water; a counsellor from the organisation is suspected of having raped and committed homosexual abuse against at least four young LGBT immigrants, the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet reported.

Prosecutor Paulina Pilati said she will soon bring charges against the suspect, a man in his fifties. According to her, there are a total of four suspected cases of rape and another two cases of sexual harassment.

The suspect has been working at RFSL Stockholm’s office since the 1990s and has been involved in the project “Newcomers’ Mental Health”, which “offers activities, information and counselling in a safe environment” for LGBT asylum seekers and illegal immigrants.

The victims said they were afraid that the counsellor would ruin their chances of getting asylum if they didn’t let him abuse them. Several also stated during an interrogation that they had contacted him because they had been told that they would then have a faster handling of their asylum cases.

Svenska Dagbladet related the story of a young asylum seeker called “Samuel”, who admittedly fell victim to the man’s predatory ways.

By his own admission, when he was admitted to the counsellor’s room, the man locked the door and immediately started groping him. “Do something for me,” the RFSL counsellor reportedly said, unbuttoning his shirt and proceeding to rape him.

Despite a series of alarms about the man’s allegedly unsound behaviour, RFSL Stockholm failed to act in good time. While volunteers at RFSL Stockholm informed the management about the adviser’s suspected rapes and an investigation was initiated, there were no consequences.

Volunteers emphasised that they have heard from asylum seekers as early as 2017 that visiting the man’s office unaccompanied is dangerous, because he “otherwise closes the door and insists that you do sexual things with him”.

However, despite all the alarms, the counsellor was able to continue until 2020, when a police report was filed and an investigation began.

“When people bleed, sharks gather,” psychologist Calle Brunell, the man who rang the alarm bell over the abuse, told Svenska Dagbladet in dismay.
The RFSL is a non-profit organisation founded in 1950 striving to secure equal rights, possibilities and obligations for LBGT people. It works locally, nationally and internationally and describes itself as an ever-growing organisation with about 7,000 staff members and 36 branches all over Sweden.

While enjoying tax support and media attention as a respectable authority, the organisation is not without controversy, as its personnel have been convicted of paedophilia and child sex abuse over the years.

In 1983, the RFSL issued a statement to the Ministry of Justice defending a positive stance towards paedophilia, arguing that a paedophile “gives tenderness and love”. It was signed by then-chairman Kjell Rindar, who gave the inaugural speech at the Pride Festival as late as 2011. In 1991, the RFSL’s national congress discussed a subdivision for paedophiles, which was ultimately rejected, the newspaper Världen Idag reported.”

Anyone who questions the lockdowns Is vilified, censored by the media, social media, family, neighbours and not so loyal friends, as a conspiracy theorist.

Death with the virus and not of the virus and prolong the fear / pandemic is a great way to get more funding to study the virus. Karry Mullis, the man who discovered the PCR test and stated it was NEVER to be used to diagnose a disease in humans, also said follow the money. Little Dr. Anthony Fauci is a master of spin.

Politicians who have promoted the lockdowns are doing so at the cost to the “little” people, the people who are baring the brunt of the shamdemic. The lockdowns are clearly ineffective and destroying the lives of many – tearing our country apart.
Let’s ask all politicians, police, social workers, school teachers, and bureaucrats have their pay suspended until this “little people’s pandemic” is over.

    • The whole world is suffering under the present global order. The pandemic has also further exposed this. The elites have clearly failed. It is now time for the Muslim Ummah to present how Islam can bring justice and liberate humanity.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9210573/A-Americans-walk-zombie-like-daze-stress-lack-sleep.html

“A new study finds that almost a third of Americans suffer from concussion-like symptoms, largely due to a lack of sleep and stress.

The Concussion Assessment, Research and Education (CARE) Consortium published the study in the Sports Medicine journal in January.

Conducted nationally, the study showed that between 11 and 27 percent of student-athletes without a recent concussion demonstrated symptoms of post-concussion syndrome (PCS).

Nearly 31,000 student-athletes were surveyed for the study, with PCS-like symptoms most closely associated with lack of sleep, stress and pre-existing mental health issues.

Between 50 and 75 percent of those surveyed reported at least one concussion-like symptom, with fatigue, low energy, and drowsiness being the most common answers.

The symptoms for PCS generally include headaches that are persistent in nature, anxiety, insomnia, memory problems, dizziness and fatigue.

‘The numbers were high, and were consistent with previous research in this area, but it is quite shocking,’ Jaclyn Caccese, a lead author in the study, said in a statement…”

    By Chuck Ross

President Donald Trump’s impeachment legal team has disbanded just days before his upcoming impeachment trial is set to begin, according to a report.

According to CNN, the five lawyers who signed up to represent Trump decided to leave the legal team over disagreements for the strategy to be used at a Senate trial that is set to begin on Feb. 9.

Trump was impeached by the House on charges that he incited the riots at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

  10. Public Ban on Islamist Hate Preacher Anjem Choudary to Be Lifted: Report (breitbart, Feb 1, 2021)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2021/02/01/public-ban-islamist-hate-preacher-anjem-choudary-be-lifted-report/

“Infamous Islamic hate preacher Anjem Choudary will be free to spread his malevolent rhetoric in Britain, as his ban on public speaking will be lifted later this year, a report claims.

Choudary was convicted in 2016 of supporting Islamic State. Upon his release from prison in 2018 — after serving less than half of his five-and-a-half-year sentence — he was barred from public speaking, in one of the more extreme release condition orders given in the history of the UK.

However, the Mail on Sunday reported that his license restrictions will be removed by the end of May, prompting concerns that the extremist preacher will set about radicalising young Muslims in Britain yet again.

Terrorism expert Michael Kenny warned that as a result of serving time in prison, Choudary would be more effective in recruiting for his Islamist cause as he will have “street cred”, explaining: “He is no longer just a talker but has served time for his cause, so he has greater credibility.”

Before his imprisonment, the Pakistani heritage cleric regularly appeared on mainstream British media, spreading Islamist messages while carefully skirting the law.

He was finally convicted in 2016 for a Youtube video, in which he called upon his supporters to obey deceased ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and to go to Syria support Islamic State…”

  11. Iran state TV airs launch of new satellite-carrying rocket (abcnews, Feb 1, 2021)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/iran-state-tv-airs-launch-satellite-carrying-rocket-75613320

“Iranian state TV on Monday aired the launch of the country’s newest satellite-carrying rocket, which it said was able to reach a height of 500 kilometers (310 miles).

The footage of the solid-liquid-fueled rocket showed the launch taking place during daytime in a desert environment. The report did not say when or where the launch happened.

The rocket, named Zuljanah for the horse of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, did not launch a satellite into orbit.

Iran says its satellite program, like its nuclear activities, are aimed at scientific research and other civilian applications. The U.S. and other Western countries have long been suspicious of the program because the same technology can be used to develop long-range missiles.

Ahmad Hosseini, spokesman for the Defense Ministry’s space department, which oversaw the launch, said the rocket is capable of carrying either a single 220-kilogram (485-pound) satellite or up to 10 smaller ones.

He said the test helped Iran to achieve its “most powerful” rocket engine and that the rocket can be launched using a mobile launching pad. State TV said the three-stage rocket uses solid fuel in the first and second stages and fluid fuel in the third.

In the past, Iran has used various fluid-fuel satellite carrier rockets to put smaller devices into orbit. Last year, the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard said it used a Qased, or “Messenger,” satellite carrier to put the Noor satellite into space.

Iran often coordinates its tests of new military and scientific projects with national holidays. It will celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution later in February.”

  12. Lawmakers debate bill to rout out radical Islam in France (abcnews, Feb 1, 2021)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/lawmakers-debate-bill-rout-radical-islam-france-75606087

“French lawmakers tackled a bill on Monday they hope will uproot radical Islam in the country, beliefs that authorities maintain are creeping into public services, associations, some schools and online with the goal of undermining national values.

The bill is broad and controversial, with some 1,700 proposed amendments, and it guarantees heated debate for the next two weeks in the lower house.

Opening the debate, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, the bill’s sponsor, said the aim is to stop “an Islamist hostile takeover targeting Muslims.” He stressed that “we are not fighting against a religion,” although some Muslims have voiced concern that it adds a new layer of stigmatization for French Muslims. Other religions, from Buddhists to Catholics, have complained they also could suffer fallout from the text.

The bill reflects a priority for President Emmanuel Macron, who in an October speech painted a dark picture of what he dubbed “separatism,” a perverse version of Islam, France’s No. 2 religion, quietly making inroads and creating a “counter society.”

Darmanin echoed the president in his opening remarks to lawmakers, saying “Our country is suffering from a sickness of separatism, first and foremost an Islamist separatism that is like gangrene infecting our national unity.”

Darmanin, a right-leaning member of Macron’s centrist party, took up his mission to propose a law with zeal, writing a short book to be released in the next few days, “Manifesto for Secularism” — a fundamental value of France that the bill he sponsored is meant to protect.

Multiple terrorist attacks in France by Islamist extremists provide a backdrop for the bill, even if recent attacks were committed by outsiders.

The text applies to all religions but some Muslims say the legislation once again points the finger at Islam.

Other critics say the bill covers ground already addressed in current laws while far-right leader Marine Le Pen says the bill doesn’t go far enough or even name the enemy: radical Islam.

Muslim leaders were keeping a low profile as debate opened.

In ways small and large, the bill seeks oversight in the functioning of associations and mosques, including foreign financing, aiming to plug up entry points for Islamist ideology in the lives of Muslims.

Mohammed Moussaoui, head of the French Council on the Muslim Faith, the government’s main conduit for France’s diverse Muslim population, said at a parliamentary commission hearing in January that the new oversight of associations in the bill is “useful, necessary to fight those who want to instrumentalize associations” to counter French values. However, he expressed concern that officials could “use this tool to bother associations, the good students” following the rules.

Among the 51 articles, the bill aims to ensure that public service employees respect neutrality and secularism, while protecting them against threats or violence.

In a bid to protect children from indoctrination and to do away with underground schools, the text requires all children from age 3 to attend a regular school. Some 50,000 children were home-schooled in 2020, according to French media. But the number of “clandestine schools” where children are reportedly indoctrinated in radical ideology is unknown.

Among other key points, the bill aims to keep a close watch on associations, including those that often run mosques, with measures including one aimed at ensuring that outsiders cannot take control of an association.

Another measure requires associations receiving state funds to sign a “contract of Republican commitment” ensuring they honor French values. Funding must be reimbursed if the contract is broken. While foreign funding for mosques is not banned, amounts over 10,000 euros ($12,100) must be declared.

If some Muslims feel a new layer of stigmatism, France’s other religions feel collateral damage. Le Monde newspaper reported they were unanimous in their criticism of the treatment of religious associations, which leaders told a parliamentary commission adds unnecessary layers of work, oversight and suspicion for all faiths.

The proposed law also seeks to halt the issuing by doctors of virginity certificates, the practice of polygamy and forced marriage. Doctors would be fined and risk jail for providing virginity certificates.

The law includes an article that Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti has called the “Paty law,” after the beheading of school teacher Samuel Paty who showed students in a civics class caricatures of the prophet. It creates a new crime for hate speech online in which someone’s personal details are posted. A Chechen refugee beheaded Paty after information about the teacher was spread online.”

  13. US watchdog: Taliban attacks increased in Afghan capital (abcnews, Feb 1, 2021)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/us-watchdog-taliban-attacks-increased-afghan-capital-75605202

“Taliban attacks in the Afghan capital of Kabul are on the rise, with increasing targeted killings of government officials, civil-society leaders and journalists, a report by a U.S. watchdog said Monday.

It comes as the Biden administration plans to take a new look at the peace agreement between the U.S. and the Taliban signed last February under President Donald Trump.

The report said Taliban-initiated attacks across Afghanistan during the last quarter of 2020 were slightly lower than in the previous quarter, but exceeded those of the same period in 2019, according to numbers provided by U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

“Enemy attacks in Kabul were higher than during the previous quarter,” the report quoted U.S. forces. “They were much higher than in the same quarter last year.”

The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, known as SIGAR, monitors the billions of dollars the U.S. spends in war-ravaged Afghanistan.

The Taliban unleashed a wave of attacks in Afghanistan in December, including strikes in northern Baghlan and southern Uruzgan provinces over a two-day period that killed at least 19 members of the Afghan security forces. In Kabul, a roadside bomb struck a vehicle, wounding two, and a lawyer was shot in a targeted killing.

Resolute Support, the NATO-led mission in Afghanistan, reported 2,586 civilian casualties from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31 last year, including 810 killed and 1,776 wounded, according to the SIGAR report.

The report said the proportion of casualties caused by improvised explosive devices increased by nearly 17% in this quarter, correlating with an increase in magnetically attached IEDs or “sticky bomb” attacks, the report said.

Despite the ongoing violence, casualties across Afghanistan in the last quarter of 2020 decreased by 14%, compared to the previous quarter. The quarter saw an exceptionally high number of casualties for the winter months, however, when fighting normally subsides.

The U.S. has been the prime backer of the Afghan government since it invaded the country soon after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and overthrew the Taliban, who were running the country and harboring al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden. The U.S. is still spending about $4 billion a year to assist Afghan security forces.

The U.S. military said earlier this month that it had met its goal of reducing the number of troops in Afghanistan to about 2,500. Senior U.S. commanders are skeptical of the Taliban’s stated commitment to peace, though they have said they can accomplish their mission in Afghanistan at that troop level.

“As the footprint of U.S. agencies continues to shrink, it will become more important that the U.S. and other donors perform aggressive and effective oversight of its dollars and programs,” said Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction John F. Sopko.

Corruption is rampant among Afghan government ministries, driving a wedge between the government and much of the population, frustrating international donors, and contributing to a poverty level in the country of more than 72%, according to the World Bank.

Also, recent international aid agency reports said that more than half of Afghans are in dire need of assistance just to survive 2021. The relentless corruption has alienated most Afghans caught between a war and relentless poverty, despite billions of dollars in international aid. By the end of 2020, Afghanistan’s unemployment rate was projected to rise to 37.9%, up from 23.9% in 2019, said the report.

Taliban representatives and the Afghan government earlier this month resumed peace talks in Qatar, the Gulf Arab state where the insurgents maintain an office. The stop-and-go talks are aimed at ending decades of conflict but frustration and fear have grown over the recent spike in violence, and both sides blame one another.

U.S. airstrikes increased in the last quarter of 2020 as U.S. forces provided defensive support to Afghan security forces, according to the U.S. military. It reiterated that since the signing of the U.S.-Taliban deal, U.S. forces have ceased offensive strikes against the Taliban.

The White House said that President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, told his Afghan counterpart in a phone call last week that the new administration will “review” the February agreement between the U.S. and the Taliban.

Pentagon chief spokesman John Kirby said last week that the U.S. stands by its commitment under the deal for a full troop withdrawal, but the agreement also calls for the Taliban to cut ties with al-Qaida and reduce violence.

The authorized goal strength of Afghan defense forces has been adjusted downward to 208,000 personnel, the SIGAR report said. It had been roughly 227,000 for many years.

Afghan special forces conducted the highest number of ground operations in the last quarter of 2020 in more than a year, NATO said. The 1,152 ground operations were nearly double the number conducted during the same period last year, reflecting a 4% increase compared to the previous quarter.”

    Mike Howard
    6-7 minutes

In 2018, China launched 39 space rockets into near-Earth orbit and beyond, beating out the U.S. (with 34 launches), and Russia (with 20). In 2019 China led the world again, with 32 successful orbital launches, compared to 22 flights from Russia and 21 from the United States. Last year, thanks to SpaceX, America topped the scoreboard with 40 successful launches (four failures), with China a close second at 35 (four failures), and Russia placing third with 17 (no failures). Payloads ranged from satellite deployments, International Space Station (ISS) resupply flights, and crewed missions to robotic exploration of the sun, asteroids, near planets, and in the case of China, to the Moon.

On December 22, 2020, at 12:37 p.m. Beijing time, China successfully launched their new Long March 8 rocket into orbit from their new spaceport on Hainan Island. The Long March 8 deployed five separate payloads, debuting an expendable booster, which will eventually be outfitted for recovery and reuse.

John Sullivan, leader of the far-left group “Insurgence USA,” is now facing accusations of not complying with his terms of release.

He was released conditionally without bail on Jan. 15, after he was arrested and charged for his alleged activities at the U.S. Capitol amid the breach of the building on Jan. 6.

According to the Washington Examiner‘s review of a court document from last week, a probation officer said that he “violated the conditions of supervision.”

The DOJ said that Sullivan has been charged “with one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, one count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, and one count of interfering with law enforcement engaged in the lawful performance of their official duties incident to and during the commission of civil disorder.”

Aleksei Navalny, opposition leader, anti-corruption activist and fierce critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, returned to Russia on January 17 after recovering for five months in Germany from having been poisoned with a military grade nerve agent, Novichok. It was an event widely reported to have been an assassination attempt by Russian state agents.

Upon landing, Navalny was immediately arrested on charges that he had violated the parole terms from a suspended sentence received in 2014 for alleged fraud, a conviction that the European Court of Human Rights ruled was “arbitrary and manifestly unreasonable”.

Upon his arrest, Navalny was denied access to a lawyer, and — after a hearing that took place in a police station, which only pro-Kremlin media were allowed to attend — jailed for an initial term of 30 days. He is due to go on trial on February 2.

“It seems,” Navalny said about the proceedings, “that the grandpa in the bunker is so afraid of everything that they demonstratively ripped apart the code of criminal procedure and threw it in the trash.”

People living in these areas have been told to stay at home even if they don’t have symptoms.

Mass testing will be carried out on tens of thousands of people in eight areas of England in an urgent bid to halt the spread of the new South African strain of coronavirus.

Ministers have urged everyone in the affected postcodes to get tested, whether or not they have symptoms.

Scientists say early data suggests the vaccines will still work against the South African variant, although they might be slightly less effective.

    • BBC News – Thousands face emergency Covid tests in bid to halt spread of South Africa variant in UK –

There’s growing concern among health experts about the South African variant of coronavirus after random checks found a number of cases in the UK which could not be linked to international travel.

The health secretary for England Matt Hancock said authorities across the UK would have to “come down hard” on the variant. Around 80,000 people in England will be offered urgent tests for the variant.

Door to door testing will be carried out in the affected areas which include parts of London, the West Midlands, Hertfordshire, Kent, Surrey and Merseyside.

Mr Hancock urged people in these areas to stay at home unless they “absolutely have to leave”.

Health officials say they are confident the current vaccines will be effective against the South African variant, although probably not as effective as they are against other known strains.

    • Brits in areas infected with South African variant must stay inside, warns Matt Hancock

Matt Hancock warned Brits we need to “come down hard” on the new South African variant as he ordered those in infected areas to stay inside – and get tested.

The Health Secretary issued the fresh warning as he revealed 9.2million people have now had their first vaccine – with nearly one million people getting a jab over the last weekend alone.

Ministers vowed to track down every single case of the new variant – which is feared to be 50 per cent more contagious than the original strain.

The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded $30 million in funding to Australia’s Lynas Corp to build a rare earth processing plant in Texas, as the nation continues to seek to break its reliance on Chinese imports of the critical minerals.

The facility will be able to process light rare earth elements (LREE), which are not only widely used in consumer goods such as cellphones and electric car motors, but also critical to the production of next-generation fighter jets and precision-guided missiles.

It’s not the first time Lynas, one of the few major non-Chinese rare earth miners, received federal funding for a U.S.-based project. Last year, the company teamed up with Texas’s Blue Line Corp to land a deal with the Pentagon to build a separation plant for heavy rare earth elements (HREE), which are used in the manufacturing of specialized military weapon systems.

Both plants will be built in Hondo, Texas, about 45 miles west of San Antonio. Lynas said it will be able produce a quarter of the world’s demand for rare earths once the facilities become operational.

  27. Ken Starr: Senate ‘Utterly Without Jurisdiction’ to Try Ex-President Trump

Former special prosecutor Ken Starr added to a chorus of conservative voices arguing that the Senate doesn’t have the jurisdiction to hold an impeachment trial against former President Donald Trump.

Starr, in comments to Fox News on Monday, stated that the upper chamber cannot try a president after leaving office.

“The answer is emphatically not,” Starr said, adding that “the text of the Constitution to me is absolutely clear that judgment in cases of impeachment” refers to the “removal and possible disqualification.” He argued that a “former officer, by definition, cannot be removed.”

Earlier this month, 45 GOP senators voted to reject going ahead with the impeachment trial, scheduled for Feb. 8, in the strongest hint yet that Democrats’ impeachment efforts are doomed to fail. Conviction in the Senate requires 67 votes instead of a simple majority, and it would require 17 Republicans to join the Democrats.

“The Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said the assassination of senior commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani, whose murderers have been relegated to the dustbin of history, has strengthened the resistance front’s resolve to destroy the Zionist regime.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the tomb of General Soleimani in the southern city of Kerman on Monday, Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said the blood of the revered martyr has given fresh impetus to the plans to pursue the aspirations of the Islamic Revolution and Imam Khomeini more vigorously.

The resistance front is pressing on with the goal of destruction of the Zionist regime, he said, adding that the path of battle against the US and Israeli regimes is being followed more enthusiastically.

The top commander also highlighted the “remarkable progress in the capabilities of the resistance front and the Iranian Armed Force” over the past year, after the martyrdom of Lt. General Soleimani.

The situation of the enemies indicates that the murderers of General Soleimani have been relegated to the history dustbin and will have to pay the price for the assassination, the commander stated.

“The Zionist regime is in confusion and on the path to downfall,” he added.

General Soleimani, Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and several of their companions were assassinated in a US airstrike authorized by former US president Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

Both General Soleimani and al-Muhandis played a key role in defeating the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group which at its peak, threatened a complete take-over of Iraq and Syria.

Iraqi lawmakers unanimously approved a bill on January 5, 2020, demanding the withdrawal of all foreign military forces led by the United States from the country following the assassination of the two anti-terror commanders.”
