Reader’s Links for December 30, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. Iraqi Christians face an uphill battle for survival
    https://english.alaraby.co.uk/english/indepth/2020/12/30/iraqi-christians-face-an-uphill-battle-for-survival

“Father Nadhir Dako’s voice is barely audible as the call to prayer sounds from nearby mosques in the neighbourhood of Dora in southern Baghdad.

“There was an altar, there, in the middle,” he says softly, walking through the deserted church. “And a cross…I used to celebrate mass as a parish priest of this church in 1996. And look now, there is nothing left. There are not even Christian families living in this neighbourhood anymore”.

Saint Jacob church was burnt down by Islamic State (IS) militants in 2015 and never rebuilt. “It does not even make sense anymore,” sighs the 55-year-old priest. Before the US invasion in 2003, Dora hosted the largest community of Assyrian Christians in the Iraqi capital. Today, the nearest church is a few blocks away but grows emptier every week.

Before the fall of Saddam Hussein, Iraq was home to one of the largest Christians communities in the Middle East but years of war, persecution from Al Qaeda, and then IS, has forced thousands of Christian families into exile.

“There are less than half a million Christians left in all Iraq, out of six million in 2003. In Baghdad they were more than 750,000. Today, they are no more than 75,000,” explains William Warda, President of the Hammurabi organisation for the protection of religious minorities.

The Christian community in Iraq has dwindled by 90 percent since 2003
During 35 years as a priest in Baghdad, Father Nadhir Dako has seen many churches close down. In his parish, the Chaldean church of Saint Joseph in Karrada, central Baghdad, the situation is also bleak. “I have around 150 families of the faithful left. All the others went to Turkey, Jordan or Europe and no one ever managed to come back. In their absence, Shia pro-Iranian militias who dominate Iraqi society seized their properties”.

In a country controlled by corruption, jobs in public administration positions are often distributed among influential members, nearly all Sunni or Shia. As each day passes, more and more Christians consider the possibility of leaving Iraq, which is facing the worst economic crisis in recent history…”

  3. Mob sets ablaze historic Hindu temple in Karak
    https://tribune.com.pk/story/2278020/mob-sets-ablaze-historic-hindu-temple-in-karak

“A highly-charged mob on Wednesday, reportedly led by local clerics, vandalised and set ablaze a historic Hindu temple in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak district, officials said.

The temple in Karak’s Terri area was considered a site of pilgrimage for Hindu community due to its importance as a Yogi Astan. However, local residents were resentful due to the ongoing renovation work in the temple and they attacked the building, demolished it and then set it ablaze.

Police and local authorities were unable to prevent the incident due to the large number of people involved.

The historic temple became non-functional after the 1947 Partition when all local Hindu families migrated to India but four years ago it was handed over to the Hindu community by the Supreme Court and ever since it was a site for pilgrimage for the community from all over the country especially from Sindh who paid a weekly visit to the site every Thursday.

Local clerics were reportedly not happy over the decision and repeatedly demanded the closure of the temple.

District Police Officer (DPO) Irfanullah had to call in the police to disperse the mob and take back control of the premises. “The situation is out of control as the mob is ready to confront anyone,” claimed a local who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The DPO The Express Tribune that the Hindu community had bought some land to extend the temple where they were constructing a building.

However, a local cleric instigated people to attack the structure, he added. “They attacked and demolished the under-construction building. We’ve registered an FIR against the cleric.”

The situation is under control, the police officer said…”

  4. Turkey: 132 verdicts in major FETO terrorism case
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/turkey-132-verdicts-in-major-feto-terrorism-case/2093839

“A Turkish court on Wednesday announced its verdict on 132 members of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the group behind a defeated coup in the country in 2016, over their activities in the Turkish army command during the putsch.

A heavy penal court in the capital Ankara handed aggravated life sentences to 12 army personnel — Brig. Gen. Adem Boduroglu; colonels Mutlu Serkan Vurdem, Hasan Yilmaz, and Esref Mert; as well as Mehmet Ortac, Hamza Akkay, Halil Ekiztas, Ibrahim Baspinar, Ahmet Fazil Isik, Oguzhan Celikoglu, Bayram Ustundag, and Zulkuf Orak — for attempting to violate the constitutional order, according to a judiciary source who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Vurdem was also given 54 years in prison for depriving various victims and complainants of their liberty, including then-Presidential Secretary-General Fahri Kasirga.

Eighty others were also sentenced to life in prison for attempting to violate the constitutional order, while 22 were handed prison sentences ranging from 12 years and six months to 19 years for being aiding this crime.

Two were given six years and three months in prison each for being a member of an armed terror group and one was sentenced to seven years and six months over the same charge, the source added.

Erhan Caha, who had already been given 141 aggravated life sentences in another trial concerning FETO, was given additional 34 years in prison for attempting to kill two people and 69 years for deprivation of liberty.

Gokhan Akdag and Fikret Yagmur Yavuz, who were also both sentenced in earlier FETO trials, were given prison sentences over the same charge as Caha’s. Yavuz received 22 years and six months, while Akdag got five years.

The court acquitted nine people from all charges, while the cases of three people were separated.

FETO and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary.”

    • Good question: what’s in it for Pakistan?
      I bet it’s the Saudis.
      – India “gifted” Bhutan to Israel for Hannukah.
      – Saudi might be able to likewise with Pakistan.

Both India and Saudi will face adversaries in the US if we don’t _Stop-The-Steal_. Israel, too, of course.

Even a loose coalition of these countries will be stronger than any single nation in opposing a Pretender administration. That would be clearly bent toward the MB and Iran. A gift to Russia.

Three victims of crime are sharing their stories.

Three victims of violent crime in Los Angeles County have stepped forward to Big League Politics to share stories of their experiences, and to warn the community of George Gascón’s jailbreak and soft-on-crime policies.

Gascón has received scrutiny in left-leaning Los Angeles County for his proposals to gut the criminal justice system in favor of criminal defendants and convicted offenders. Gascón has pledged to eliminate cash bail, close the county’s largest jail, and to reevaluate sentencing guidelines for felony offenders convicted under California’s “Three Strikes” law, which mandates sentences of 25 years to life for offenders who refuse to cease committing felonies.
