Reader’s Links for December 13, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. At least 25 injured in Rawalpindi’s Ganj Mandi blast
    https://tribune.com.pk/story/2275802/at-least-25-injured-in-rawalpindis-ganj-mandi-blast

“At least 25 people are reported to have been injured on Sunday in a blast near Rawalpindi’s Ganj Mandi Police Station.

According to rescue 1122 officials, 22 people were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, whereas three were treated on the spot. Their condition was stated to be critical.

CPO Rawalpindi Ahsan Younus said that this was the second blast in the city within a period of 10 days.

He added that the nature of the blast was still being ascertained. “It would be too early to say what kind of a blast it was as investigations are still underway,” he said…”

  2. Greek Coast Guard levels up ill-treatment of migrants: Turkish interior minister
    https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/greek-coast-guard-levels-up-ill-treatment-of-migrants-turkish-interior-minister-160796

“The Turkish interior minister on Dec. 12 criticized the Greek Coast Guard units for their ill-treatment of irregular migrants attempting to cross into Europe.

In a Twitter post addressing Greek Minister of Migration and Asylum Notis Mitarachi, Süleyman Soylu shared video footage showing Greek coast guard units forcing two boats carrying migrants into Turkish territorial waters.

“Your Coast Guard units are leveling up the torture and inhumane treatment every day,” Soylu said, pointing to the footage in which some of the migrants were severely battered by the Greek authorities.

Soylu went on to say that Greek coast guard units were responsible for the “inhumane action” and pushbacks into the Turkish territorial sea and that the EU border agency Frontex was “complicit” for such acts, which were “ignored” by the EU.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Coast Guard Command issued a statement on a total of 28 migrants rescued on two separate occasions after they were pushed into the Turkish territorial waters.

According to the statement, 17 migrants, comprising women and children, were rescued on Dec. 6 from a half-sunken lifeboat after getting stuck on an island for two days.

The statement noted that the irregular migrants said they were stuck on the Bulamac Island – some 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) southwest of Didim in Turkey’s Aydin province – for 2 days.

They were then captured on the island by Greek elements and taken on a Greek Coast Guard ship in two groups – with women and children separately from men. While men were hit and kept on the ship, women and children were left to the Turkish territorial waters on a lifeboat and dragged, added the statement.

The statement went on to say that 11 migrants, including men who were separated from women and children in the previous incident, were rescued on Dec. 8 after they were dragged into Turkish territorial waters by the Greek elements.

It added: “It was seen that they [men] were heavily battered and there were some scars on their bodies. It was also learnt by their statements that their money, mobile phones, and other valuable possessions were taken.””

  3. 68 ‘terrorists neutralized’ in one month, Defense Ministry says
    https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/68-terrorists-neutralized-in-one-month-defense-ministry-says-160818

“A total of 33 security operations, including nine large scale and 24 medium scale, were carried out domestically and abroad, and 68 “terrorists were neutralized,” the Defense Ministry said on Dec.13.

Within the scope of border security operations, a total of 5,753 persons, who attempted to cross the border illegally, were apprehended and 34,264 others were blocked or pushed back before they crossed the border, the spokesperson of the ministry, Marine Lt. Col. ?ebnem Aktop, said in a statement.

Among these people, 39 terrorist organization members, 24 of whom were members of FETÖ — the group Ankara accuses of being behind a defeated 2016 coup — were caught, she added.

“The PKK/YPG terrorists, who attempted to attack and infiltrate to disrupt peace and tranquillity established in the operation areas in Syria, are neutralized by our hero commandos. In this context, 202 terrorists, 29 of whom were the members of DAESH [ISIL], were neutralized in the last month,” she said.

Turkish authorities often use the term “neutralized” to imply the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.

Elaborating on the tension between Turkey and Greece in the eastern Mediterranean to Greece, “Turkey is in favor of good neighborly relations,” she said.

But Greece “maintains its uncompromising attitude that escalates tension with exercises, harassment, violations and provocative statements in the region,” Aktop added.

She also said that Turkey would continue to support the Tripoli government in Libya. “The training in the five training centers in Libya are continuing,” Aktop said.

Stating that the work to establish a joint observatory center with Russia to monitor the ceasefire in Azerbaijan is continuing, Aktop said the Turkish army continues to provide training to the Azeri army within the scope of bilateral agreements.

The ministry spokesperson noted that Turkish troops in Azerbaijan were conducting land mine search and destruction activities in the liberated lands and carrying out relevant training with Azerbaijani soldiers.”

  4. At least 27 killed in jihadist attack in southeast Niger
    https://www.france24.com/en/africa/20201213-dozens-killed-in-jihadist-attack-in-southeast-niger

“Jihadists from the Boko Haram group killed at least 27 people in an attack of “unprecedented savagery” in southeast Niger, local officials said on Sunday.

Other people were wounded and some more reported missing in the assault on Saturday evening in the village of Toumour in the Diffa region, said a senior local official.

Witnesses and other officials confirmed the attack, which came hours before municipal and regional elections went ahead across the country on Sunday.

“Some victims were killed or wounded by bullets, others were burnt inside their houses, consumed by the flames of an enormous fire set by the attackers,” said the official.

Between 800 and 1,000 houses, the central market and numerous vehicles were also destroyed in the fire, he added.

Roughly 70 attackers arrived at Toumour at around 1745 GMT on foot, having swum across Lake Chad, said the official. The attack itself lasted three hours.

“They first attacked the residence of the traditional chief, who only just managed to escape,” he said.

“It was an attack of unprecedented savagery,” said a local elected official who asked not to be named. “Nearly 60 percent of the village has been destroyed.””
