Reader’s Links for December 9, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

An Ivy League university is requiring that White students receive an annual flu vaccination, while providing a racial exemption for students belonging to any other race.

Cornell University in New York admits to the racially discriminatory practice openly on its university health website. An estimate of demography university’s students calculated that 35% of the student body identify as white, thus ensuring that only a small plurality of students are required to receive flu vaccination.

On a web page breaking down the University’s health policy for “students of color,” Cornell Health appears to suggest that individuals of races other than white don’t need to agree to vaccination requirements.

“We recognize that, due to longstanding systemic racism and health inequities in this country, individuals from some marginalized communities may have concerns about needing to agree to such requirements,” explains the page. “For example, historically, the bodies of Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) have been mistreated, and used by people in power, sometimes for profit or medical gain.”

Social justice warriors are infecting decision-making regarding who should receive COVID-19 vaccination priority. Saving the lives of the most vulnerable is less important, they believe, than making up for past racial and socioeconomic inequities.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) convened an emergency meeting of its Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) late last month in which most of the members advised that “equity” considerations should take precedence. For this reason, they believe that after vaccinating front-line health care workers and long term care facility residents, the vast group of so-called non-health service “essential workers” should be vaccinated before adults with high risk medical conditions or those most vulnerable who are over the age of 65. “Racial and ethnic minority groups are disproportionally represented in many essential industries and live in communities that are disproportionally affected; offers an opportunity to really impact equity,” the ACIP said in the summary of its minutes.

Democracy dies in darkness. Just like Jeff Bezos’ Amazon warehouse employees.

In the latest episode of the oligarchic farce that is the Democrats and a media owned by guys like Bezos, the Washington Post, which he bought for $250 million, is now warning of the threat of “authoritarian voters” to “democracy”.

It’s a pretty terrible thing when those “authoritarian voters” defy the will of Bezos and the Silicon Valley donor class.

Trump Blows Through 2020 Election Deadline – He Just Used Al Gore’s 2000 Precedent To Challenge Results
    What’s Happening:

Democrats and their media allies keep begging for Trump to just give up. But clearly, the president isn’t so easily swayed.

Critical lawsuits are moving through the courts. Their decisions could dramatically impact the elections.

But one deadline has already been reached, the so-called “safe harbor” deadline. That hasn’t deterred Trump, as he continues his battle.

In fact, he pointed to Al Gore. Because twenty years ago, he did the same thing. From Fox News:

Hunter Biden, the son of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, said Wednesday he is being investigated by the U.S. Attorney’s office in Delaware.

“I learned yesterday for the first time that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware advised my legal counsel, also yesterday, that they are investigating my tax affairs,” the younger Biden said in a statement. “I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors.”

The announcement drew a response from Joe Biden’s team, also appearing to confirm the investigation.

The former vice president “is deeply proud of his son, who has fought through difficult challenges, including the vicious personal attacks of recent months, only to emerge stronger,” the statement said.

About two-dozen House Republicans are calling on President Donald Trump to direct Attorney General William Barr to appoint a special counsel to investigate election integrity in light of fraud allegations made by President Donald Trump following the Nov. 3 contest.

About 26 Republican lawmakers signed off on a letter sent by Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Texas) that seeks “to appoint a Special Counsel to investigate election irregularities,” he wrote on Wednesday.

“Following widespread support from my House Republican colleagues, I am again requesting that you direct Attorney General Barr to appoint a Special Counsel to investigate irregularities in the 2020 election,” their letter began. “The American people deserve a definitive resolution to the uncertainty hovering over the outcome of our election, but legitimate questions of voter fraud remain unanswered,” it continued.

  8. 10 Nigerian Troops Killed in Clashes With ISWAP Jihadists: Sources

“Ten Nigerian troops were killed and one was taken hostage in clashes with IS-linked jihadists in northeast Nigerian Borno state, according to two security sources.

Clashes erupted on Monday when a team of soldiers stormed a camp of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Alagarno village in Damboa district.

“We lost 10 soldiers in the fight and one was taken by the terrorists,” a security source told AFP on Tuesday. The hostage was seized while fleeing to safety after the troops were outgunned, he said.

“It was an intense battle and the terrorists also suffered casualties but they were able to overwhelm the soldiers,” said a second security source who confirmed the toll. The insurgents seized four vehicles, including a truck and an armored vehicle, the second source said.

  9. Syria War Deaths Reach 387,000 in Slowest Annual Increase, Says Monitor
    https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2673536/syria-war-deaths-reach-387000-slowest-annual-increase-says-monitor

“The overall death toll for Syria’s war has crept up to 387,000 following the least deadly of 10 years of conflict, a monitor said Wednesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on a wide network of sources inside Syria, said the new figure included almost 117,000 civilians, among them more than 22,000 children.

The Observatory’s previous tally was issued in January and stood at more than 380,000.

The fighting, which erupted in 2011 after the brutal repression of anti-government protests, has largely abated this year as a ceasefire held in northwestern Syria and attention turned to containing the coronavirus pandemic.

The latest toll included more than 130,500 pro-government fighters, among them foreigners.

More than half of those were Syrian soldiers, while 1,703 were from the Lebanese Hezbollah party whose members have been fighting in Syria since 2013.

The conflict has claimed the lives of more than 57,000 non-extremist opposition fighters.

It has also killed more than 67,500 extremists, mainly from the ISIS group and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a group dominated by ex-members of Syria’s former al-Qaeda affiliate.

More than 12,500 Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces fighters have been killed in battles against ISIS and Turkish forces.

The Observatory’s toll does not include some 88,000 people it says died of torture in government-run prisons, nor thousands who were abducted during the conflict and are still missing.

After turning the tide of the war with Russian and Iranian support since 2015, the Syrian government now controls around two-thirds of the country.

Among the regions still beyond its reach are the last opposition enclave of Idlib in the northwest, Turkish-held areas along the northern border, and northeastern parts of the country held by US-backed Kurdish forces.

The war has forced more than half the country’s pre-war population to flee their homes.

Some 6.7 million Syrians remained displaced inside the country, while 5.5 million are registered as refugees abroad, according to the United Nations.”

    https://saudigazette.com.sa/article/601249/SAUDI-ARABIA/Arab-Coalition-destroys-two-Houthi-explosive-laden-boats

“The Arab Coalition said late Wednesday its forces intercepted and destroyed two bomb-laden boats belonging to Iran-backed Houthi militia.

In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency early Thursday, the coalition spokesman Brig. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said that the armed boats targeted maritime routes south of the Red Sea.

“The Coalition Navy Forces detected this evening (Wednesday) an attempt by the terrorist Houthi militia to carry out a hostile, terrorist act in Southern Red Sea, using two bomb-laden unmanned boats launched from the Hodeida Governorate in Yemen,” the spokesman said.

“The boats, which pose a threat to regional and international security, underwater communication cables, and international trade, were destroyed, the statement added.

The coalition spokesman also said that the Houthi militia is using Hodeida governorate as a base to launch ballistic missiles, armed drones, explosive-laden boats, as well as the random deployment of sea mines in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and a violation of the provisions of the Stockholm ceasefire agreement.

“The coalition will continue to implement all rigorous, deterrent measures against the terrorist militia, and neutralize, destroy such capabilities that pose a threat to regional and international security,” Al-Maliki warned.”

“Two wells in a small oilfield in northern Iraq were set ablaze by explosives on Wednesday in a “terrorist attack” but overall production from the field was not affected, the Oil Ministry and officials said Wednesday, Reuters reports.

The Oil Ministry gave no details about the assailants behind the explosive devices that targeted the wells in Khabbaz oilfield, 20 km (12 miles) southwest of Kirkuk.

In a statement issued through its official channel on Telegram, Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, though it did not provide any evidence to back up its claim.

Technical teams isolated the two burning oil wells and there was no impact on output, two sources from the state-run North Oil Company (NOC), who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

The field produces about 25,000 barrels per day, oil officials said. The ministry said production from the two wells that were targeted did not exceed 2,000 bpd.

The ministry statement said a fire erupted at the two oil wells after explosive devices were set off half an hour apart, with one going off at 1:30 a.m. (1030 GMT) and the second at 2:00 a.m (1100 GMT).”

  13. Uzbekistan repatriates Daesh women and children
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20201209-uzbekistan-repatriates-daesh-women-and-children/

“The government of Uzbekistan announced on Tuesday that it has repatriated from camps in Syria 25 women and 73 children linked to Daesh, RT and other news agencies have reported. It is not yet known where these women and children will live, but the intention is that they will be reintegrated into their home society.

Uzbek sources said last month that dozens of the families are in Al-Hol and Roj camps in the parts of Syria controlled by the Kurds. The conditions are said to be “deplorable”. In Uzbekistan, they are expected to be medically examined before being given assistance with employment and somewhere to live.

In August, UNICEF reported that eight children had died in Al-Hol, where it said that youngsters from 60 countries were languishing. Covid-19 infections among camp workers have worsened conditions.

Western countries seem unwilling to accept the return of their citizens among the Daesh women and children. They are, it is generally claimed, a “security threat”.

Uzbekistan repatriated 220 women and children from Syria last year with no reports about their whereabouts. There have been no reports about any attacks or attempts to carry out attacks by the returnees.”

“Today the U.S. designates Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, Nigeria, the DPRK, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan as countries of concern under the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 for engaging systematic, ongoing, egregious religious freedom violations,” Pompeo said on Twitter, stressing that religious freedom is a basic human right and that Washington has taken new steps to protect this basic right.

“The U.S. is unwavering in its commitment to religious freedom. No country or entity should be allowed to persecute people with impunity because of their beliefs. These annual designations show that when religious freedom is attacked, we will act.” he added in a separate tweet…”

  15. France has developed a clearer vision of Brotherhood threat: Egypt’s Sisi tells Le Figaro
    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/396530/Egypt/Politics-/France-has-developed-a-clearer-vision-of-Brotherho.aspx

“President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said France has developed a clearer vision of the grave danger the Muslim Brotherhood poses to the European society.

In an interview with Le Figaro published on Wednesday, in tandem with the conclusion of El-Sisi’s visit to France, the president said Egypt and other regional countries have had strong reasons to declare the Brotherhood a terrorist organisation.

The group has infiltrated social work, established charity organisations, formed armed militias and proliferated in institutional political circles, posing a threat to the states in which it operates, El-Sisi said.

The Brotherhood exploits religion as a cover for its agenda, he added.

Egypt and France are together facing terrorism, El-Sisi said, referring to the French parliament’s current discussions on a bill that would guarantee the respect of the principles of the Republic of France.

Much like in France, terrorism in Egypt has inflicted a heavy price on the nation. Muslims and Christians, members of the Armed Forces, police and judiciary fell victim to the brutal acts of terrorism, he said.

“We have continuously been warning of the dangers of this deadly ideology that knows no borders. Let us coordinate at the international level to fight terrorism,” El-Sisi stated.

Countries that finance and arm terrorist groups, in violation of UN resolutions, must be penalised, he added.

El-Sisi called for respecting the religion and faith of the other, referring to the anti-prophet cartoons that have hurt the feelings of Muslims around the world.

Answering a question about Turkish provocations against Egypt in Libya and the Eastern Mediterranean, El-Sisi said that Egypt is adopting a policy of establishing excellent relations with its neighbours, resorting always to dialogue.

Turkey, he added, should be like other regional countries that respect the rules of international law and the Law of the Sea. It should not take unilateral measures that affect regional security and peace without consulting with other countries, added the president.

The Eastern Mediterranean is rich with gas after the recent explorations, said the president, adding that Egypt adopts the logic of cooperation with its partners, including France.

As for a possible military confrontation between Egypt and Turkey in Libya, the president said that Egypt is working towards reaching a political and comprehensive solution to resolve the Libyan crisis and restore its stability. He underlined the necessity of ending foreign interference that threatens the stability of Libya due to the transportation of mercenaries and arms to extremist militias in Libya.

The president confirmed that Egypt will never initiate an attack, but that the Egyptian Armed Forces are always ready to defend Egypt and protect its national security in the face of any threats.

As for Ethiopia, El-Sisi said the Nile water is crucial for Egypt and differences with Ethiopia over its dam have taken too long.

The dam may be a source of development for Ethiopia, but filling it in violation of international law threatens the water supply of 100 million Egyptians, said the president.

He added that Egypt remains committed to a just and legal solution through reaching a final agreement that protects the interests of Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan.

As for the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, he pointed out that Egypt has always been working to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.

Concerning claims by some non-governmental organisations that there are 60,000 political prisoners in Egypt, the president said he had no idea how they came up with that figure.

Another issue concerned the incident when Egyptian authorities arrested three members of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights. The problem was that they registered the initiative as a commercial company, in violation of law 2019 for activities of associations that do not seek profit.

There are more than 55,000 NGOs in Egypt and some of them are cooperating with the Egyptian government for protecting human rights, said the president.

Egypt is working on striking a balance between protecting rights and confronting security challenges and fighting terrorism, added the president.

On the repercussions of the coronavirus on the Egyptian economy, the president said that country’s strong economic reform programme helped confront the consequences of the coronavirus crisis. Egypt has achieved an economic growth rate of more than 3.6 percent in 2020, he added.

Egypt has embarked on a journey towards development in which it chose France as its favourite partner, El-Sisi concluded.”

  18. 17 States Urge Supreme Court to Review Texas Bid Challenging Election Results in 4 States
    By Janita Kan

Seventeen states are urging the U.S. Supreme Court to take up Texas’s request to challenge the 2020 election results in four battleground states.

The states, led by Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, filed a friend-of-the-court brief on Dec. 9, underscoring that the case filed by Texas is of great public importance and requires the attention of the nation’s top court.

Texas on Dec. 7 filed a motion asking for permission to sue Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin in an attempt to protect the integrity of the 2020 election.

The Lone Star state alleges that the four key battleground states unconstitutionally changed election laws, treated voters unequally, and triggered significant voting irregularities by relaxing ballot integrity measures.

In the brief, the 17 states argue that the Texas lawsuit warrants review by the high court as it presents important constitutional issues under the Electors Clause. It also raises concerns about election integrity and public confidence in the handling of elections, they added.

    https://www.theepochtimes.com/17-states-urge-supreme-court-to-review-texas-bid-to-challenge-election-in-battleground-states_3610837.html?utm_source=newsnoe&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=breaking-2020-12-09-4

    • This is one third of the states and more are sure to join before the week is over, this means that there is significant pressure on SCOTUS to take the case. The case rests on the 4 states ignoring the Constitution on which portion of the State Government has jurisdiction over the State election rules. If SCOTUS follows the Constitution it will be either a 6-3 or a 5-4 decision that the 4 states broke the law and that the mail in ballots that were not allowed by law passed by the legislatures are illegal and can’t be counted. Either that or they order the Legislatures to choose the electors.

Pray they take the case and rule according to the Constitution.
