Reader’s Links post for November 21, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

BREAKING: 8 People Injured in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin Mall Shooting

Police in Wisconsin say that eight people were injured in a shooting Friday at a suburban Milwaukee mall and that they are still seeking the suspect.

Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber gave no motive for the attack at Mayfair Mall in a brief update about three hours after the 2:50 p.m. incident. He said the extent of injuries to the eight — seven adults and one teenager — was unknown, but all were alive. He added that the shooter was “no longer at the scene.”

Weber said based on statements from the wounded, police were seeking a white man in his 20s or 30s and were working to identify the man. He called the mall an active crime scene and asked people to continue to stay away.

AOC Wants Government “To Pay People To Stay Home”

Radical leftists within the Democratic party want forever lockdowns

Extreme leftist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) tweeted a new stunningly bright idea Thursday night, posting that “To get the virus under control, we need to pay people to stay home.”

Yes, that is correct, an elected representative seriously wants the government to pay Americans to force them to stay inside.

AOC followed up her deranged suggestion by declaring that Republicans are mad at her for the suggestion, but really voted to do the same thing earlier in the year.

  3. Obama’s TEVUS crime database hides BLM, ANTIFA violence & inflates white, right-wing violence
    4 days ago Brad Johnson

An editorial published in American Military News

Terrorism and Extremist Violence in the United States (TEVUS) is a US government-funded database that tabulates violent attacks in the United States. Used by the US government and media alike, it is one of the fundamental sources of information about who is conducting violent attacks in the United States. TEVUS reporting appears to set out to cover up Islamic, Arab, Black Nationalist, and Left-Wing terrorism and extremist violence and attempts to document white and right-wing violence where little to no violence actually exists.

There is much debate these days about the level of violence taking place in American streets. It was an important topic in the first presidential debate and President Trump was asked about right-wing violence a number of times. So, what is the source for the claims that right-wing violence is such a big problem and threat? As it turns out, The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), along with other federal funding sources, pay for TEVUS Database and Portal, a 2009 Obama administration initiative.

Much of the information about the existence of right-wing violence does in fact come from the responsible agency, which in this case is the Department of Homeland Security via TEVUS. The latest annual Homeland Threat Assessment published in October 2020 by DHS director Chad Wolf, stated: “That is why we design our programs to be threat agnostic – ensuring that we can combat a broad range of domestic threats. However, I am particularly concerned about white supremacist violent extremists who have been exceptionally lethal in their abhorrent, targeted attacks in recent years.”

Americans for Intelligence Reform partially funded an exhaustive 2-year study by AIR senior fellow Christopher Hull PhD. to look at the details and accuracy of what TEVUS reports that is used by DHS, the rest of our federal government, and media. It appears that TEVUS is a deeply political product with little information based on accurate analysis.

TEVUS is a compilation of four open-source terror and extremism-related databases:

Hundreds of anti-government protesters in Guatemala have vandalised and set fire to parts of the Congress building, before being dispersed by riot police.

The building in Guatemala City was empty at the time of the attack, which lasted for about 10 minutes.

The fire services have managed to put the fire, but the extent of the damage is not yet known.

The protesters are opposed to the a budget, which was approved by Congress on Wednesday night.

  5. Woman’s self-immolation sparks outrage in Iran
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20201121-womans-self-immolation-sparks-outrage-in-iran/

“A shocking incident of a woman setting herself on fire in the southern Iranian province of Hormozgan has evoked widespread anger and outrage across the country, reports Anadolu Agency.

The incident was reported on Thursday in the port city of Bandar Abbas, where a 35-year-old woman attempted self-immolation after her house was razed down by local authorities.

The woman, according to local officials, suffered substantial burns and is presently undergoing treatment at a local hospital in the city on the southern coast of Iran.

Local sources said the woman was living with her two children along with two other women and their children in the ramshackle house located in the Bist o Davvam town of the city.

While the mother is hospitalized, her children and other occupants have been rendered homeless.

Provincial officials who visited the victim in the hospital on Friday have ordered investigation into the matter that has gathered storm on social media.

The port city of Bandar Abbas, strategically located at the entrance of the Persian Gulf, overlooking the Strait of Hormoz, was tipped to become an important commercial hub in the region.

It, however, has been reduced to a hub of ghettos occupied by poverty-stricken people. According to official estimates, roughly half of the population in the port city – some 240,000 – lives in authorized houses.

The latest incident has again put the spotlight on grinding poverty in the province, difficult living conditions, and indifference of local authorities towards the plight of people.

The municipality officials say a warning had been given to the occupants of the house to vacate it since the land belongs to the government and is “situated on a flood channel”.

But the woman’s relatives claim they had asked the municipality not to go ahead with the plan, as they were staying in the house “as a matter of necessity, not choice”.

The incident has drawn widespread anger and outrage across Iran.

Samieh Rafiee, a lawmaker from the capital Tehran, denounced the action and called for “amendments in existing laws” to prevent such incidents in the future.

Ali Reza Zakhani, a lawmaker from the city of Qom, termed it a “bitter event” and an example of “discriminatory behavior” towards the poor.”

  6. Rights group: Austria carries out ‘politically-motivated’ violations against Muslims
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20201121-rights-group-austria-carries-out-politically-motivated-violations-against-muslims/

“A human rights group has accused Austrian security authorities of committing “politically-motivated” human rights violations against Muslims, a statement issued on Wednesday revealed.

“The Geneva Council for Rights and Liberties (GCRL) is deeply concerned about the human rights violations committed by the Austrian security authorities, during the broad raids carried out in four provinces, which included the arrests of at least 30 Arabs and Muslims,” the statement disclosed.

It added: “Austrian police, on 9 November, launched raids on more than 70 houses across four provinces in Austria, with orders given for 30 Muslims to be arrested.”

The statement continued: “Among those affected by the campaign are several former officials from the Austrian Council for the Islamic Religion, in addition to an employee at the institute in charge of training religious teachers in public schools, and also includes academics, doctors, and officials of associations.”

The GCRL stated: “These raids have shown a clear disregard for basic human rights principles and rules of law in Austria, as well as intimidation and exaggeration in order to mislead public opinion by a so-called successful security operation against ‘political terrorism’.”

Meanwhile, the GCRL indicated: “The Styria region prosecutors’ office said in a statement that ‘the operation has no connection to the terror attack in Vienna of 2 November,’ but was the result of ‘intensive and comprehensive investigations carried out for more than a year.'”

According to Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nihamer: “The security operation launched by the police aims to ‘cut off the roots of political Islam,’ indicates that the matter is related to a campaign linked to a political position or religious orientation, and not related to specific legal violations.”

The GCRL also reiterated: “The security operations based on religious belief, faith or political orientation constitute a grave violation of the right to freedom of belief and freedom of opinion and expression, which was guaranteed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, as well as local laws that guarantee freedom of belief and expression.”

“The raid campaign was politically-motivated and was marred by a number of human rights violations during arrest including storming homes at night, breaking down the doors of many homes, causing terror to residents with total disregard for children and women, seizing money and documents without warrants,” the council stressed.

The Geneva Council further revealed that: “The detainees and the inhabitants of the houses including children were asked offensive irrelevant questions violating the privacy, such as prayer or social customs, as well as the position on the Palestinian issue.”

In addition, the statement noted that the GCRL: “Firmly condemns terrorist attacks, expresses its full solidarity with the victims, and stresses the importance of prosecuting perpetrators of these attacks in accordance with the law,” but at the same time, it “denounces any attempt to use this incident to commit discriminatory violations on the grounds of religion or belief.”

The GCRL expressed: “Its concern over politically-motivated actions of the dissolution of associations and closing mosques without legal justifications considering them a form of collective punishment.”

Concluding the statement, the council called on the Austrian government: “To review procedures and decisions that contravene human rights and the law, to investigate violations committed by the security authorities, and to stop any crackdown of a political nature or on freedom of expression or belief.””

“Al Qaeda’s North Africa branch (AQIM) has appointed a new leader and confirmed the death of its former leader Abdelmalek Droukdel who was killed by the French army in June, SITE Intelligence Group said on Saturday.

U.S.-based SITE, which monitors jihadist websites, said AQIM displayed the dead body of its former leader for the first time in a video.

The French army killed Droukdel in Mali after hunting him for more than seven years in the Sahel region.

AQIM said that following Droukdel’s death, another Algerian, Sheikh Mujahid Yazid Mubarak, also known as Abu Ubaida Yusuf al-Annabi, was chosen as successor.

The group also confirmed the death of Swiss Beatrice Stockly who was kidnapped from the Malian city of Timbuktu in January 2016.”

  8. We contemplate to build future with Europe, says Erdo?an
    https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/we-contemplate-to-build-our-future-with-europe-erdogan-says-160229

“Turkey seeks stronger cooperation with allies, said the nation’s president on Nov. 21.

“We want to be in stronger cooperation with our friends and allies,” Recep Tayyip Erdo?an told his ruling AKP’s regular
provincial congresses held virtually as part of COVID-19 measures.

“We see ourselves nowhere else but in Europe. We contemplate to build our future together with Europe,” he added.

He also noted that Ankara wants to use its long and close ally relations with Washington actively in resolving the regional and global issues.

“We believe that we do not have any problem with any country or institution that cannot be solved through politics, diplomacy, and dialogue,” he stressed.

Erdo?an urged the European Union to keep its promises, not to discriminate, and at least not to be a tool of “explicit hostility” against Turkey.

He also noted that Ankara wants to use its long and close ally relations with Washington actively in resolving the regional and global issues.

He said Turkey also cannot ignore countries, such as Russia and Iran, with which it has deep-rooted ties.

“We seek to improve our cooperation with almost all regional pacts in the world,” he said, adding that Turkey works for solutions based on territorial integrity and political unity everywhere it is involved, from Syria to Libya.

“We believe that we do not have any problem with any country or institution that cannot be solved through politics, diplomacy, and dialogue,” he stressed.

Erdo?an said Turkey has always kept these communication channels open, and will continue to do so.”

  9. Azerbaijan: Armenians turned Aghdam into ruined city
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/azerbaijan-front-line/azerbaijan-armenians-turned-aghdam-into-ruined-city/2051825

“Residents of Aghdam, which was occupied by Armenia for 27 years, said Saturday it was turned into a ruined city.

In Aghdam, where the Armenian army withdrew on Nov. 20, there are almost no steady buildings.

About 143,000 Azerbaijanis once live in the city but it now consists of poorly maintained roads and demolished buildings.

The double-minarets mosque, which was built in the 19th century, is the only building in Aghdam whose main structure remains intact. But it is in a very poor and neglected condition.

The destruction by Armenians in Aghdam during the occupation was described in the foreign press as the “Hiroshima of the Caucasus.”

Relations between the former Soviet republics of Azerbaijan and Armenia have been tense since 1991 when the Armenian military occupied Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as Upper Karabakh, a territory recognized as part of Azerbaijan, and seven adjacent regions.

New clashes erupted on Sept. 27 and the Armenian army continued attacks on civilians and Azerbaijani forces, even violating humanitarian cease-fire agreements for 44 days.

Baku liberated several cities and nearly 300 settlements and villages from the Armenian occupation during this time.

On Nov. 10, the two countries signed a Russia-brokered agreement to end fighting and work toward a comprehensive resolution.

The truce is seen as a victory for Azerbaijan and a defeat for Armenia.”

  10. Turkey arrests 47 FETO-linked terror suspects
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/turkey-arrests-47-feto-linked-terror-suspects/2051401

“At least 47 people have been arrested in Turkey for suspected links to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the group behind the 2016 defeated coup, sources and authorities said on Saturday.

Two operations were conducted to uncover the terror group’s “current structuring among university students.”

Prosecutors in Istanbul and the National Intelligence Organization’s Istanbul branch uncovered activities of FETO-linked student formations from 2019 to 2020 and launched operations based on the obtained information.

The first operation was carried out on Nov. 13 in seven cities, leading to the arrest of 28 suspects.

Five of the arrested suspects benefitted from the effective repentance law after confessing to their crimes, according to a judicial source who spoke on condition of anonymity.

A second operation was conducted on Saturday and 11 additional suspects, who had been identified from the testimony of other suspects, were arrested.

Many digital materials and organizational documents were seized by the police.

Later in the day, eight more suspects were arrested in an operation in the southeastern Sirnak province.

The suspects were soldiers on active duty who were acting as ‘covert imams’ – senior FETO members – and were part of the terror group’s efforts to infiltrate the Turkish Armed Forces, according to a statement by the provincial governorate.

FETO and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup on July 15, 2016, in which 251 people were martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Turkey accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.”

  11. 50 school collapses in last year

“There have been some 50 episodes of structural collapses in Italian schools in the last year, citizens’ group Cittadinanzattiva said Friday.

The episodes include full-scale collapses, falling plaster, and windows, perimeter walls and trees falling down in or near schools, it said.

Cittadinanzattiva surveyed the cases ranging from August 2019 to November 2020.
There have been some 326 such incidents since 2013, it said.

Since September of this year, there have been a further 11, it said.

Some 43% of Italy’s 40,160 schools, or 17,343, are situated in areas of high seismic risk, the report said.

Some 4.3 million children and teenagers live in these regions.

Over 4,000 of the schools in these two zones, one and two, have asked the education minister to carry out vulnerability tests, but many of these tests have not arrived.

This is mainly due to a lack of funds, Cittadinanzattiva said.”

  12. Belgian policeman tried over death of Kurdish toddler
    https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20201122-belgian-policeman-tried-over-death-of-kurdish-toddler

“Belgium’s approach to policing undocumented migration will be in the dock Monday when an officer goes on trial over the shooting death of a two-year-old Kurdish girl.

Mawda was fatally wounded in May 2018 when a policeman opened fire on a van being driven across Belgium by traffickers taking migrants from the continent to Britain.

The officer said he had intended to shoot out a tyre to halt the suspect vehicle during a high speed chase, but his car swerved violently and the bullet went astray.

The tragedy caused a scandal in Belgium and, for rights activists, became a symbol of the dangers posed by the “criminalisation” of irregular migration.

The officer who fired the fatal shot, reportedly a 40-something father-of-two with eight years experience in the police, has not been publicly named.

But he faces an involuntary homicide charge and will appear in court in the city of Mons alongside two Iraqi Kurds, the driver of the van and the alleged people smuggler.

The officer does not deny he drew and fired his gun to halt the fleeing vehicle, but insists he did not know migrants were on board.

He says he felt “wiped out” when he discovered little Mawda had received a fatal head wound, crouched with her parents behind the driver.

“It’s a horror to carry the image of someone responsible for the death of a child,” his lawyer Laurent Kennes told AFP.

“He feels that everything has fallen on him, that he has to carry the errors of the state prosecutors, of migration policy.”

Mawda’s parents, who left Iraq in 2015 and had intended to head to Britain, settled in Belgium after her death, granted leave to remain on humanitarian grounds.

    – Celebrity support –

They will be represented at the two-day hearing by three lawyers and backed by a citizen activist group that has mobilised international celebrity support.

Roger Waters, of rock group Pink Floyd, has urged Belgians to attend the hearing and make a fuss: “Do not let them sweep the death of this child under a rug.”

In a video message, British filmmaker Ken Loach demanded “what circumstances justify shooting into a van full of people?”

Rights activists in Belgium argue that such awful deaths are made more likely by what they see as the “dehumanisation” of refugees and the “criminalisation” of migration.

Police tactics and the cooperation between French and Belgian services will also be in question.

On the night of May 16 to 17, 2018 when the migrants’ van set off from Grande-Synthe in northern France, French investigators had placed a GPS tracker on board.

But the Belgian police did not know it was already under surveillance when they tried to intercept the traffickers on a motorway south of Brussels.

The hearing at the court in Mons, southern Belgium, will last two days, after which the court will retire to consider its verdict.

The police officer could face five years in jail for involuntary homicide. The Kurdish defendants are charged with dangerous driving, aggravated by a death.”

  13. George Soros: Europe must stand up to Hungary and Poland
    https://rmx.news/article/article/george-soros-europe-must-stand-up-to-hungary-and-poland

“The European Union cannot afford to compromise on the rule-of-law provisions it applies to the funds it allocates to member states, billionaire financier George Soros wrote in an op-ed article entitled “Europe must stand up to Hungary and Poland” on Project Syndicate, a website largely financed by his Open Society Foundation.

“How the EU responds to the challenge to those provisions now posed by Hungary and Poland will determine whether it survives as an open society true to the values upon which it was founded,” Soros wrote. His article was published just one day ahead of the EU’s Thursday summit, originally meant to deal with the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, but the Hungarian and Polish veto on the block’s budget over rule of law criteria hijacked the agenda.

“Although the two countries are the budget’s biggest beneficiaries, their governments are adamantly opposed to the rule-of-law conditionality that the EU has adopted at the behest of the European Parliament,” Soros wrote. “They know that they are violating the rule of law in egregious ways, and do not want to pay the consequences.”

Hungarian government spokesman Zoltán Kovács tweeted that EU institutions were in essence implementing a blackmail scheme devised by Soros.

“If you ever wanted to know how the Soros plan works, here it is: @georgesoros suggested fiscal penalties against those who do not accept migrants back in 2015. Today we see financial blackmailing & political retribution operationalized by EU institutions” Kovács wrote.

“It is not so much an abstract concept like the rule of law that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and, to a lesser extent, Poland’s de facto ruler, Jaros?aw Kaczy?ski, oppose,” Soros wrote. “For them, the rule of law represents a practical limit on personal and political corruption. The veto is a desperate gamble by two serial violators.”

Soros’ article is further proof for what Orbán has been saying for years, namely that the European Union’s various institutions are heavily influenced by Soros through lobbying and informal channels.

When he announced the veto — since joined by Poland and partially supported by Slovenia — Orbán wrote that in accordance with the principle of, “There is no agreement on anything as long as there is no agreement on everything”, the Hungarian government will vote against all elements of the MFF / NGEU legislative package, including vetoes requiring unanimity, such as the MFF regulation.”

  14. Netherlands: Geert Wilders to PM Rutte: You have imported a monster called Islam into our country! (VIDEO)
    https://rmx.news/article/article/netherlands-geert-wilders-to-pm-rutte-you-have-imported-a-monster-called-islam-into-our-country-video

“Geert Wilders, the leader of the populist Party for Freedom (PVV) in the Netherlands, slammed liberal Prime Minister Rutte during a recent debate over freedom of expression in the Dutch parliament, saying that his pro-mass migration policies have allowed for the importation of a “monster called Islam into our country.”

The words from parliamentary leader of PVV in the Dutch House of Representatives come weeks after the spate of deadly Islamic terror attacks in Austria and France, including the beheading of Samuel Paty — a French history teacher who showed a picture of the Islamic prophet Muhammad during a lesson on freedom of expression in his class.

Before addressing Dutch prime minister directly, Wilders opened up the debate by recounting the Islamic attacks and threats that have occurred in recent weeks. The right-wing populist leader also commented on Amsterdam imam Yassin Elforkani, who late last month called on Dutch lawmakers to adopt legislation that would criminalize any insult aimed at the Islamic prophet.

Imam Ismail Abou Soumayyah, a known Salafist extremist of the Quba mosque in The Hague, recently launched a petition which calls on the Dutch government to adopt Sharia blasphemy laws. The petition has reached well over the 40,000 signatures required which can, in theory, force a debate in the House of Representatives.

During his address, Wilders refuted claims often parroted by liberal politicians like Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, that only a small minority of Muslim immigrants in the Netherlands and Europe support terrorism and reject secular democracy.

“So it’s not just a few rotten apples who make other Muslims look bad,” Wilders began. “I say to the prime minister, stop pushing this nonsense fairy tale. This is large majority of 700,000 [out of 900,000] who reject our free society.”

The full video can be seen at the RAIR Foundation’s Rumble page.

“And you, mister prime minister, have imported a monster called Islam into our country, which has put our country in danger,” Wilders continued.

In order to remedy the current situation, which Wilders sees as the largest existential threat to Dutch society, he implored Dutch lawmakers enact his simple five-point plan.

Wilders’ plan includes recognizing Islam as a violent ideology, closing the borders to migrants from Islamic countries and reintroducing Schengen border checks, dismantling Islamic institutions, locking up or deporting jihadist sympathizers and Islamists who threaten or use violence, and having schools and media companies show Muhammad cartoons without fear of retaliation.

According to Wilders, this plan would be enacted “not to provoke, but to show that we never give in to threats and violence, and that we proudly support our freedoms.”

“Speaker, to wrap up, I have a message for all the Muslims in the Netherlands who do not respect our freedom, our democracy, and our core values, who find the rules of the Quran more important than our secular laws.”

“Get out! Leave for an Islamic country. Then you can enjoy Islamic rules. Those are their rules, but not ours. This is our country. Not your country, but our country. This is the Netherlands.””
