Reader’s Links for November 20, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. UN: Guterres says pandemic brings developing world “on precipice of financial ruin”

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the developing world was ‘on the precipice of financial ruin’ due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was speaking at a news conference in New York City, on Friday, ahead of the start of the G20 summit.

“I am issuing an SOS for the needs of developing countries. Since day one I have pushed for a massive rescue package equivalent to at least 10 percent of the global economy,” said Guterres.

“This weekend G20 leaders will meet as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage our world, I will take part and my main message is simple we need solidarity and cooperation, and we need concrete action now especially for the most vulnerable,” added the UN chief.

The G20 summit will be held in Riyadh over the coming weekend.

  3. The Muslim Brotherhood in the Netherlands
    https://gatesofvienna.net/2020/11/the-muslim-brotherhood-in-the-netherlands/
The two articles below concern a controversial candidate for the Green-Left (GroenLinks) Party in the Netherlands who is closely associated with the Muslim Brotherhood. Many thanks to Gary Fouse for the translations.
The first article is from De Dagelijkse Standaard:
Naïve idiot club Green-Left [party] puts up Muslim Brotherhood-Islamist as candidate — Spot number 9 on election list
So they have succeeded: As a strictly secular, left party, they have placed Kauthar Bouchallikht, someone from the extreme-right Islamic hate club Muslim Brotherhood, on place number 9 in the coming parliamentary elections.
Give credit where credit is due: Carel Brendel, retired AD journalist, discovered that the leftist secular and liberal Green-Left placed someone from the hard-hitting, extreme-right Muslim Brotherhood on an election list spot for the coming Parliamentary elections. Her name is Kauthar Bouchallikht, and she was vice-chair of the youth organization of this sharia club (MB).
“The candidate commission of the Green-Left has awarded a high candidate position in the coming Tweede Kamer elections to Kauthar Bouchallikht, the vice-chair of the youth and student organization of the Muslim Brothers. The celebratory biography makes no mention of this striking activity.”

  4. Obama’s latest light-hearted joke: Use Navy SEALs to eject Trump from White House
    By J.E. Dyer November 20, 2020

In what CBS refers to as a “light-hearted jab,” former president Barack Obama told late-night host Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday night that “we” could send the SEALs to remove President Trump from the White House.

Recounts CBS: “Jimmy Kimmel asked Mr. Obama what might happen if an unnamed person — presumably Mr. Trump — were trying to hide in the White House.”

Kimmel’s query ensues: “You know the White House well. You lived there for eight years. Are there places someone could hide? Like, if, say, they were going to be removed? … There’s little cubby holes or anything we should know about?”

CBS delivers Obama’s response: “‘Well, I think we can always send the Navy SEALs in there to dig him out,’ Mr. Obama replied, laughing.”

  5. Germany Contributes $1.2m to WFP Activities in Iran
    https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2020/11/20/2393045/germany-contributes-1-2m-to-wfp-activities-in-iran

“Germany supported the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) with a supplementary contribution of €1 million (approximately $1.2 million) towards its assistance program in Iran.

This contribution is in addition to a contribution of €1 million received in April 2020. It will benefit Afghan and Iraqi refugees living in settlements in Iran.

At the same time, it allows WFP to assist vulnerable Iranians affected by natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, locust infestation, and the socio-economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Government and people of Germany have steadfastly supported us since 2014 with funds for our refugee assistance program,” said WFP Representative and Country Director in Iran Negar Gerami. “Allowing us this year to use a portion of these funds for an emergency response to large-scale natural disasters gives us more flexibility to fulfill our mandate and for that, we are extremely grateful.”

WFP will primarily use the funds to provide both cash and food assistance to address the most pressing nutrition needs of refugee families. A portion of the funds will be used to locally procure monthly emergency family food packs for distribution in areas hardest hit by locust infestation and COVID-19, the combination of which has jeopardized the livelihood of the tens of thousands of vulnerable people in a number of provinces in Iran.

“WFP has been a close partner for Germany for many years to help those who are suffering from hunger and malnutrition. Especially during the Covid pandemic, it is important not to forget the most vulnerable,” said German Ambassador to Iran, Hans Udo Muzel, according to Tehran Times.

“That is why Germany will continue to support WFP here in Iran with another one million Euro to provide cash relief and food assistance for refugees and specially affected communities. This is part of Germany’s engagement for multilateralism.”

Over more than three decades, Iran has been hosting around one million refugees —the sixth-largest refugee population in the world. Iran is also one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world, hit hard in recent history by earthquakes, floods, locust invasion, and COVID-19 pandemic.”

  8. UN experts warn 50 people face possible executions in Iraq after unfair trials
    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/iraq-prisoners-face-possible-execution-unfair-trials

“UN human rights experts have said 50 Iraqi prisoners face possible execution next week following convictions on terrorism-related crimes in unfair trials.

“We strongly urge the Iraqi Government to respect its international legal obligations and to immediately halt further plans to execute prisoners,” the experts said in a joint statement on Friday.

Last month, Iraqi authorities executed 21 death row prisoners, followed by another 21 people on Monday at the Nasiriya Central Prison.

The wave of executions is a part of what UN rights experts believe to be a plan to execute all those held on death row.

The statement noted that there are currently about 4,000 prisoners slated for execution, and hundreds of capital punishment orders have been signed off.

Since declaring the Islamic State (IS) defeated in late 2017, Iraq has condemned hundreds of its citizens to death for membership in the group…”

“US Democratic Senator Chris Murphy said yesterday that the United Arab Emirates has a history of transferring American weapons to extremist militias.

“The UAE is our ally, but there is no escaping that the Emiratis have a history of transferring U.S. arms to extremist militias, and have violated international law in Libya and Yemen. At the very least, we should not rush this sale through in a lame duck session,” Senator Murphy said on Twitter.

Earlier on Wednesday, Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, alongside Senators, Chris Murphy and Rand Paul, introduced measures to prevent President Donald Trump’s administration from selling arms worth $23 billion to the UAE, American Politico newspaper reported.

  10. DGST: Morocco Prevented ‘Hundreds’ of Terrorist Attacks Since 2002
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/11/326571/dgst-morocco-prevented-hundreds-of-terrorist-attacks-since-2002/

“Morocco has dismantled 207 terrorist cells since 2002, announced a recent press release from the country’s General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).

In the last three years alone, Moroccan security services dismantled 32 terrorist cells, the majority of which were affiliated to the “Islamic State,” ISIS.

According to DGST, Morocco has adopted a multidimensional counterterrorism strategy based on anticipation.

Over the past two decades, Morocco has suffered three terrorist attacks: The May 16 bombings in Casablanca in 2003, the Argana attack in Marrakech in 2011, and the murder of two Scandinavian tourists in Imlil in 2018.

On the other hand, the country avoided hundreds of attacks thanks to the preventive approach of Moroccan security services, DGST’s press release said.

    Thorough monitoring
DGST bases its work on collecting information about suspicious persons, including their actions, their publications on social networks, and their contacts.

“We analyze [the information] deeply, then we make the decision to intervene, depending on the imminence of the danger,” the press release said.

The monitoring of terrorist cells can extend to more than one month, in order for security services to collect the maximum of information on its members, targets, and contacts.

Sometimes, however, security services intervene urgently, in 24 hours or less, if DGST collects information that suspects the terrorist cell to be planning an imminent attack.

DGST’s press release highlighted that Morocco’s counterterrorism strategy is twofold: To arrest and imprison terrorists, but also to fight against extremist ideologies through a deradicalization process.

“Those arrested in terrorism cases, apart from those involved in blood crimes, can still be reintegrated into society once they have revised their extremist ideals,” DGST said.

The press release gave the example of the “Moussalaha” (Reconciliation) program, operated by Morocco’s General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR), in coordination with other bodies such as the Mohammadia League of Ulemas (Scholars).

The program, launched in 2017, aims to psychologically and intellectually rehabilitate prisoners with extremist ideologies. So far, “Moussalaha” has benefited at least 68 ex-detainees.”

  11. Islamophobia in France Prompts ‘Pre-Crime’ Arrests, Viral Video Shows
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/11/326689/islamophobia-in-france-prompts-pre-crime-arrests-viral-video-shows/

“Muslims in France are facing “pre-crime” arrests and police harassment on baseless suspicions of extremism, a video going viral online clearly evidences.

A Muslim family of five were shocked to find at least four armed men, their faces covered in balaclavas, banging on their door. The family told the French TV program Quotidien that the heavily-armed men forced their way into the apartment and searched the family’s possessions.

The reason for the shocking invasion of their home revolved around something their young daughter said at school. Her teacher had asked the class what they thought of the murder of Samuel Paty. The young girl responded, “I am sad about it, but if the teacher didn’t show his students caricatures this wouldn’t have happened.”…”

  12. France to Dissolve Leading Anti-Islamophobia Organization
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/11/326590/france-to-dissolve-leading-anti-islamophobia-organization/

“In his continuous crackdown on Islamic organizations, France’s Minister of the Interior Gerald Darminan announced on Thursday his plan to dissolve the Collective against Islamophobia in France (CCIF).

Founded in 2003, CCIF is a non-profit organization active in combating Islamophobia in France. After the beheading of the French teacher Samuel Paty, CCIF has been listed among outlawed organizations Darminan called “enemies of the republic.”

“In accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, I have notified the officials of the CCIF of the intention to initiate the dissolution of their organization,” Gerald Darmanin said in a tweet. He also specified that those in charge of the collective “now have 8 days to make their observations known.”

In response, the CCIF leadership said the Minister’s move was a “call from the radical right-wing.” The organization explained in a Facebook statement that it had already taken a step in response to the October 29 announcement and has “deployed a large part of its activities abroad.” It added, “The plan to dissolve the CCIF is, therefore, a moot point.”

The statement said that CCIF’s head office has been transferred abroad and that it “will continue to provide legal assistance to people who are victims of Islamophobia and will inform international bodies of the progress of the fight against discrimination and for equality in France.”

In October, Darmanin expressed his intention to dissolve several Islamic NGOs in the country. He took action by announcing the start of the dissolution procedure targeting the NGO BarakaCity.

CCIF then accused him of “signing the end of the rule of law.” The group also denounced the campaign waged against other Muslim associations as a “purely politicized agenda.”

The organization condemned the state for developing a “repressive strategy” of persecution. For them, the authorities only seek to weaponize “freedom of expression” to politically abort any acts of protest or dissent targeting France’s systemic discrimination against minorities.”

No attempt to sabotage CPEC will succeed,” Zhao Lijian made his remarks during his briefing while answering a question about Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and DG ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar’s joint briefing during which they accused India of supporting terrorist forces and sabotaging CPEC.

He said that China opposes all forms of terrorism and also opposes double standard on counter terrorism.

“China calls on the international community, the regional countries in particular to carry out counter terrorism cooperation and safeguard collective security,” the spokesperson added.

While commending Pakistan on its positive contribution to global counter-terrorism cause, he said that the Chinese side firmly supports Pakistan’s efforts in countering terrorism, safeguarding its country and regional peace and security.

He reiterated that CPEC is an important and pioneering project of the Belt and Road Initiative and it is not only important for common development of the two countries but also for regional connectivity and prosperity.

“We are confident that with support of the international community, China and Pakistan can work together to ensure the success of CPEC.”…”

  16. French Muslims face new crackdown
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/french-muslims-face-new-crackdown/2050991

“France’s Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said Friday it would be a criminal offense for Muslim parents to be upset with a teacher for showing caricatures of Prophet Muhammad in lessons to their children.

“Parents who go to a teacher to tell them to stop teaching cartoons protected by freedom of speech, tomorrow that will be a criminal. offense,” he said during an interview with Europe 1. They could face prosecution, even deportation.

“And a judge can — this is extremely important — a judge will be able to say, ‘If you’re a foreigner who commits this crime, you can leave this country.'”

French President Emmanuel Macron pledged a crackdown against what he called, “Islamist separatism” to defend France’s secular values, and argued that controversial cartoons should be defended on free speech grounds.

Critics, however, accused Macron of politically exploiting recent terror attacks, adopting a populist far-right discourse about Muslims in an attempt to appeal to right-wing voters.

Macron took steps Wednesday to impose a “charter of Republican values” on the Muslim community and gave a 15-day deadline for the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) to accept the charter.

Eight leaders of the CFCM met with Macron and Darmanin at the Elysee Palace for talks Wednesday.

In a return of good faith, the CFCM will create a National Council of Imams to offer official accreditation to imams living on French soil, according to media reports.

Macron’s charter of Republican values will forbid “foreign interference” in Muslim groups and will state explicitly that Islam is not a political movement but a religion.”

“On Monday morning, Czech customs officers detained two illegal migrants in southern Moravia after finding them at a rest stop by the D2 motorway, enjoying a coffee break. A spokeswoman for customs informed the public about the case on Wednesday.

While inspecting a truck at a rest stop near Ladná in the B?eclav region, customs officers observed two men, who appeared to be of foreign origin, sitting in the rest area of the rest area under the gazebo drinking coffee.

“Given the current situation of increased illegal movement of foreigners in our territory, customs officers asked the two individuals to prove their identity. The men stated that they had no documents, that they came from Libya, and that they had come from Hungary,” said Lada Tem?áková, a spokeswoman for South Moravian customs officers.

An investigation of the case revealed that the men hid under the trailer of the Bulgarian truck in an area for a spare tire.

“The driver of the Bulgarian vehicle said that after stopping in the parking lot, he noticed two people climbing out from under the trailer,” the spokeswoman added.

Since the migration matter is the responsibility of the Czech Foreign Police, the customs officers called a patrol and handed over both foreigners to them for further actions.

According to the spokesperson, this was the sixth case this year when customs officers detained illegal migrants in the Czech Republic.”
