Reader’s Links for November 19, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    https://english.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2020/11/19/iran-admits-another-breach-of-2015-nuclear-deal

“Iran has admitted another breach of its landmark 2015 nuclear deal with world powers after firing up uranium-enriching centrifuges at the underground Natanz plant in central Iran.

Iran’s ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Association (IAEA) confirmed the breach after it was identified by the UN body.

The terms of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA) accord state that Tehran can only enrich uranium with first-generation IR-1 machines.

The IAEA found that Iran had been feeding uranium hexafluoride (UF6) gas feedstock into advanced IR-2m machines, whose installation had been noted in the IAEA’s last report on 2 November…”

“The pro-independence Polisario Front said it launched Thursday “massive attacks” against a Moroccan defensive wall that cuts through the disputed Western Sahara.

The territory is at the centre of a crisis between the two since Morocco last week launched a military operation to reopen a key highway at the Guerguerat border crossing between Western Sahara and Mauritania.

The defence ministry of the Polisario-declared Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) said “massive attacks” targeted several sectors of the 2,700-kilometre (1,700 miles) Moroccan defensive wall.

The wall cuts through the Western Sahara, a former Spanish colony, around three-quarters of which are controlled by Morocco, including its phosphate deposits and lucrative fisheries.

  5. UNHCR says over 31,000 Ethiopians fled into Sudan amid ongoing clashes
    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/2/10/394191/World/Africa/UNHCR-says-over-,-Ethiopians-fled-into-Sudan-amid-.aspx

“The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN Refugee Agency, on Thursday said the number of Ethiopian refugees fleeing to neighbouring Sudan surpassed 31,000 amid the ongoing fighting between the Ethiopian federal government and the Northern Tigray regional state.

“As of today morning, over 31,000 refugees have fled Ethiopia’s Tigray region to seek safety in Sudan,” the UNHCR said on Thursday.

“The UNHCR and partners are doing their best to address immediate needs, but urgently need support to be able to support the (Sudanese) government in managing the situation,” it added.

Ethiopia has already established a committee to address humanitarian concern in the country’s restive northern Tigray regional state, said Redwan Hussein, spokesman of a newly-established State of Emergency Task Force for the Tigray conflict, on Monday.

Since the early hours of Nov. 4, the Ethiopian government has been undertaking military operations against the TPLF, which rules over Ethiopia’s northernmost Tigray regional state.

The federal government’s operation followed the TPLF’s attack on the Northern command base of the Ethiopian Defense Force, a division stationed in the region for over two decades and based in Mekelle city, capital of Tigray region.

“Turkey’s rhetoric on Cyprus is aggravating tensions with the European Union and Ankara must understand that its behaviour is “widening its separation” from the 27-nation bloc, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Thursday.

“We consider the recent actions and statements by Turkey related to Cyprus contrary to the United Nations resolutions and further igniting tensions,” Borrell told a news conference after a meeting of EU foreign ministers.

“We consider that it is important that Turkey understands that its behaviour is widening its separation from the EU … In order to return to a positive agenda, as we wish, will require a fundamental change of attitude on the Turkish side.”

He was referring to comments by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, who called for an equal “two-state” solution in Cyprus during a visit earlier this week to the breakaway Turkish Cypriot north of the island.

Erdogan also said Turkey and Northern Cyprus would no longer tolerate what he called “diplomacy games” in an international dispute over rights to offshore resources in the Eastern Mediterranean.

  7. France: Macron Calls for Creation of French Council of Imams
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/11/326465/france-macron-calls-for-creation-of-french-council-of-imams/

“France’s President Emmanuel Macron gathered on Wednesday the leaders of the French Council of Muslim Faith (CFCM) to request the creation of a council of imams.

The CFCM members outlined to Macron the foundation of the new council, explaining that its mission is to designate and certify Muslim preachers, or imams, in France.

Following the meeting, Macron asked the CFCM representatives to provide him within two weeks with a “charter of republican values” of the new council, according to French media.

The charter of the French council of imams, according to Macron, must affirm its recognition of the values and principles of France.

President Marcon emphasized that the charter must affirm that Islam in France is a religion and not a political movement. He also called for an end to the interference or affiliation of foreign states in French Islam.

Macron’s initiative for a French council of imams comes in a tense context, marked by Islamophobic and racist attacks against Arabs and Muslims as well as a number of extremist crimes in several cities.

These followed his speech in early October denouncing radical Islam and “Islamist separatism” after a knife attack near the former Charlie Hebdo office.

Tensions increased after the October 16 beheading of history teacher Samuel Paty in Paris. An 18-year-old Chechen refugee from Russia brutally murdered Paty for showing Charlie Hebdo’s caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in class.

The decapitation of the French teacher generated a wave of racist and Islamophobic attacks and threats towards the Arab and Muslim community in France, including knife attacks, beatings, and threats to torch mosques, as well as the official dissolution of some Muslim organizations.

In addition, the French president fueled the fire by delivering controversial remarks in defense of the Charlie Hebdo caricatures deemed offensive to Muslims, stating that France will not give up its cartoons, presenting them as a crucial symbol of “French values.”

Macron’s rhetoric spawned a cycle of both Islamophobic and extremist attacks, notably the killing of three people in Nice on October 29, which included the abominable beheading of an elderly woman. Police arrested a Tunisian suspect as well as five others for their alleged implication in the crime.

The series of violent events, in addition to a large campaign to boycott French products across the Arab world, led President Macron to back down on his comments about the caricatures.

Macron said that his government does not endorse caricatures depicting the Prophet Muhammad. He insisted that lies, misleading reports, and misinterpretations had led many Muslims to believe that he was in favor of the cartoons. Rather, he stressed that his defense is of the freedom of speech.

The creation of a French council of imams might be another move by Macron to quell tensions in France.”

They want Soviet-style retribution against Trump.

Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) has released a deranged manifesto calling for President Donald Trump to be prosecuted if the ongoing color revolution coup is successful in ousting him from office.

Of course BLM, et al. are just a front. Corporate globalists are pulling the strings. They might decide to strangle or decapitate (or bribe) the extremists into submission. Take back the reins, while continuing to mouth the appropriate platitudes.

  9. JuD chief Hafiz Saeed sentenced to life
    https://tribune.com.pk/story/2272819/jud-chief-hafiz-saeed-sentenced-to-life

“An anti-terrorism court in Lahore sentenced Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, head of the proscribed outfit Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), to life in prison on Thursday.

Judge Arshad Hussain Bhutta, while ruling on case 16/19 and 25/19 filed by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), handed down sentences against four accused, including Hafiz Saeed, in two cases.

Accused Zafar Iqbal and Yahya Mujahid were sentenced to 10-and-a-half years each, while Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki was sentenced to six months imprisonment.

The JuD chief has been in the custody of the law enforcement agency since July 2019; four cases have been decided against him so far.

A total of 41 cases have been registered by the CTD against the leaders of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, out of which 24 cases have been decided.

The remaining cases are pending in the ATC courts.

Earlier in February, Hafiz Saeed was sentenced by Judge Arshad Hussain Bhutta to five-and-a-half years in prison in two cases after finding him guilty of terror financing and affiliation with an outlawed group.

The court handed down a prison term of five years and six months and a fine of Rs15,000 in each of the case – collectively 11 years – but that will not affect the duration of the jail term with both sentences running concurrently.

On September 17, the Senate was informed by the interior ministry that the government had frozen 964 properties belonging to the JuD and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

In response to Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed’s query, the ministry told the upper house of parliament that 907 of the frozen properties belonged to JuD and 57 to JeM.

In July last year, 13 top leaders of the banned organisation, including its chief Hafiz Saeed and deputy Makki, were booked in nearly two dozen cases of terror financing and money laundering under the ATA.

The government had placed the JuD in its list of banned outfits in February last year and decided to launch a crackdown on the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM), which was banned in 2002 by then military ruler General Pervez Musharraf.

The decision was made to take action against the individuals and organisations banned by United Nations Security Council. The LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) too is among the list of proscribed outfits since 2002.”

“European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Thursday called for member States to agree to an overhaul of the EU system to manage migrants and asylum seekers to ensure that the countries most exposed to the problem, such as Italy, receive more help.

“It is important for the EU to create a long-term migration-management system that is fully based on European values and this is why the European Commission approved a new pact on migration and asylum at the end of September,” von der Leyen told a high-level conference on migration and asylum.

“Migration is a complex issue. There are many genuine concerns to reconcile.

“We must talk about the concerns of countries at the external frontier of the Union, such as Italy, Greece and Spain.

“They are worried that their efforts to manage migration go beyond their capacity and they need the solidarity of others”.”

  11. Migrants: Spiegel, new accusations against Croatian police

“The German weekly Der Spiegel on Wednesday published an article that included eyewitness accounts as well as video of inhumane behavior by Croatian police, who are accused of violence and abuses against migrants at the border with Bosnia. The video was taken in March and shows a migrant with bruises and other injuries on the Bosnian side of the border, while four people can be seen in nearby Croatian territory, apparently wearing Croatian police uniforms. The migrant in the video is a Pakistani who had been attempting with others for nearly a year to reach Slovenia – which, unlike Croatia, is part of the Schengen Area – and from there to cross into Italy. One of his ten attempts to cross the border would have been successful, but he was stopped in Slovenia where he was allegedly denied the right to request asylum and then handed over to Croatian authorities. According to his account, there were people waiting at the Croatia-Bosnia border with their faces covered who forced him to take off his jacket and pants and then severely beat him and pushed him into a small river marking the border with Bosnia. Der Spiegel said it was able to confirm the man’s account through other sources, including his movements, which were recorded in his cell phone. Croatian police have been accused for a number of years by various international NGOs and the press of perpetrating violence and illegal pushbacks against migrants. The Croatian government in Zagreb has consistently denied these allegations. It called the latest accusations “the umpteenth attempt to discredit Croatia” by groups that “would like to prevent the country’s adhesion to the Schengen Area””

  12. German government opposes Donald Trump’s Afghan troop withdrawal
    https://www.dw.com/en/german-government-opposes-donald-trumps-afghan-troop-withdrawal/a-55666100

“The US president wants to take a large part of American troops out of Afghanistan. Doing so could make things difficult for Germany’s armed forces there.

If the US pulls most of its troops out of Afghanistan by January 15, the days may be numbered for Germany’s troop presence there as well.

About 1,250 German soldiers are based in three cities — Mazar-i-Sharif, Kundus and Kabul, the capital — to advise and train the Afghan army.

“In together, out together” goes the NATO motto about its mission in Afghanistan. President Donald Trump’s push to withdraw appears to abandon this understanding, much to Germany’s discontent. In all, 38 countries — NATO members and partner states — have about 12,000 soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

    ‘Don’t be rash’
Berlin sees this as a poor moment to withdraw. With peace talks ongoing in Doha, Qatar, between the Taliban and the Afghan government, it is a particularly sensitive moment. Negotiations are faltering and violence is escalating.

“It shouldn’t be taken for granted that these two sides, after decades of conflict, are sitting at the negotiating table to begin talking to one another in a constructive way,” said Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, adding that many uncertainties and hurdles remain.

“That’s why we shouldn’t add even more hurdles, which a rash exit from Afghanistan would lead to,” he said.

    Conditions to meet
Germany’s defense minister, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, is mindful of the connection between the peace talks and troop withdrawals. NATO members, including the US, had agreed the latter to take place only after the former created reliable conditions for it.

“As before, that is the basis we’re working off of,” Kramp-Karrenbauer said on Tuesday in remarks at the German Armed Forces University in Hamburg. Peace talks have not yet shown enough progress.

According to the agreement made between the US and the Taliban in February, withdrawal is mainly based on two conditions: The Taliban must publicly cut its ties with the al Qaeda terror network and pledge that Afghanistan would never pose a terrorism threat again. If those conditions could be met, the US foresaw a complete withdrawal of foreign troops by April 2021. Neither has been so far, according to the UN.

    Costly operation
Germany’s military involvement in Afghanistan began after the September 11, 2001, attacks. It has been the most difficult and costly operation in the country’s postwar history. At its peak, Germany had 5,000 soldiers deployed, first in Kabul and then in northern Afghanistan. Fifty-nine Bundeswehr soldiers have died in Afghanistan.

In 2015, the mission changed from direct combat to training and support. Until its February agreement with the Taliban, the US had around 8,000 troops in the country. That has since been reduced to 4,500, but unlike the German presence, US troops do both training and fighting.

    Security without the US?
Now Donald Trump wants to draw down the American presence to 2,500 troops. That would fulfill the outgoing president’s promise to end the “endless war” in Afghanistan.

Such a speedy withdrawal has the German government worried about the resurgence of extremist forces. US forces, as the largest and best-equipped contingent, could be called in for support to repel serious attacks, offer aerial support and evacuate wounded soldiers.

    ‘Hasty withdrawal would be fatal’
“The US has invested a huge amount of money, lost many lives and also caused many civilian casualties,” said Roderich Kiesewetter, a conservative German MP and former soldier who has been keeping a worried eye on Trump’s withdrawal plans for months. A hasty withdrawal would be fatal, he said.

More than 32,000 Afghan civilians have been killed in terror attacks, clashes and airstrikes over the past ten years, according to UN figures. Since the US operation began on October 7, 2001, at least 2,451 American soldiers have died in the country.

Kiesewetter sees the US as “morally obligated” to help Afghanistan build its military and civil society. “A hasty and rash withdrawal would only lead to the collapse of social structures and the return of organized violence of all kinds,” he told DW in September.

    ‘Safety the top priority’
The German government is now looking towards the possibility of a worsening security situation if the US leaves.

“However things develop, our soldiers’ safety is the top priority,” Kramp-Karrenbauer said. That may mean Germany would hasten its own withdrawal should its forces’ security be put at risk. Germany’s operational mandate expires on March 31, 2021. A decision on further engagement in Afghanistan is expected from NATO-member foreign ministers in early December, which could also affect whether Germany’s troop presence gets extended.

“We presume that NATO will jointly decide future adjustments,” a German military spokesman told DW.

German soldiers seem to be getting ready for a withdrawal in any case. About 100 military logistics experts have been working at the largest German facility in Mazar-i-Sharif since early November, preparing the way for the removal of military hardware from the region.”

    https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20201120-terrorist-tag-for-yemen-s-huthis-raises-fears-of-aid-blocks

“Indications that the US is considering declaring Yemen’s Huthi rebels a “terrorist organisation” have alarmed humanitarian groups who say it could cripple aid delivery and tip the country into famine.

The Iran-backed Huthis are at the centre of a flurry of diplomacy as the administration of US President Donald Trump, which has made isolating its arch foe Tehran a centrepiece of its regional policy, enters its final weeks.

Officials confirmed to AFP reports that the US is laying the groundwork for a designation of the rebel group, which controls the capital Sanaa and much of the north after a grinding five-year war that has created the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

“The issue here is that if they are defined as a terrorist organisation, that has many consequences,” said one Western diplomat in the Gulf who oversees Yemen.

“Some or many countries will have problems in dealing with them at all, and that can complicate the whole ‘peace’ process and the UN’s work,” he said, referring to hopes for an end to the conflict.

The impact on the Huthis, who are already under US sanctions, may be limited but ordinary Yemenis could pay the price, with further damage to programmes already cut back due to record-low funding during the coronavirus pandemic…”

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/11/19/swedish-city-to-spend-over-a-billion-dollars-to-integrate-no-go-zones/

“The Swedish city of Gothenburg is looking to spend over a billion U.S. dollars in an effort to remove the city’s six no-go zones from a police list of vulnerable neighbourhoods.

The local government has pledged to spend 11 billion Swedish kronor ($1.28 billion/£964 million) on investment in the six areas of the city that have been deemed “particularly vulnerable” areas, in order to have them removed from the official police listing in the next five years.

The money is set to be invested in security, new construction projects, removal of graffiti, and improved waste management systems, according to a report from broadcaster SVT.

Terje Johansson, CEO of the company Framtiden, who help businesses hire staff in a variety of industries, said the ambitious goal of moving the areas from ‘particularly vulnerable’ to ‘vulnerable’ on the list is possible.

Johansson noted that the area of Gårdsten had been changed, largely due to the involvement in the area of a municipal housing company, although that took 22 years.

The majority of the cash, 7.5 billion kronor, will go toward construction projects in the areas of Biskopsgården, Tynnered, Hjällbo, Bergsjön, Hammarkullen, and Lövgärdet over a period of ten years.

The rest of the money will go toward what the city government refers to as “super management”, including security on-site seven days a week, a zero-tolerance policy to crime, no illegal renting or subletting in the areas, and swift clean up of vandalism and graffiti.

In September it emerged that the police in the city were growing increasingly concerned about growing ethnic violence between gangs involved in the drug trade in the city.

“There are regular large violent clashes in central Gothenburg between young Afghans and especially young Syrians, but also Somalis where they fight for good drug sales. There have been several stabbings in connection with these brawls and police have on various occasions found street fighting weapons,” a police intelligence report stated.

Just weeks before, gangs set up roadblocks in certain areas of the city and demanded local residents obey a curfew instituted by the gangs themselves in what was described by Gothenburg Police Chief Erik Nord as a “demonstration of power.””

Ronald Reagan biographer Craig Shirley has a message for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and other progressive activists threatening to punish President Donald Trump’s backers for their political views.

“Tortious interference has been a law since before the Constitution. It is illegal, and has been for years for a third party to interfere with the legal commerce between one party and another,” Shirley told The Epoch Times on Nov. 19.

“If she is responsible for even one person in the United States not getting a job or getting fired and the boss says, ‘I’m not hiring you because of what AOC said,’ or ‘I’m not hiring you because of your politics,’ she has committed tortious interference and has opened herself up to massive litigation.”

Shirley was referring to the socialist New York congresswoman who was dubbed “AOC” by the media when she came out of nowhere to defeat veteran Rep. Joe Crowley in the Democratic primary in 2018.

He said that Muslims are unable to liberate Palestine because their governments are “colonized.” He added that Muslims are the only nation that is helpless while its members are being humiliated, insulted, and killed
