Reader’s Links on November 18, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

“A cap on migrant workers contained in a previous decree by League leader Matteo Salvini is to be removed in the reform of the decree, according to an amendment approved Wednesday.

The nationalist anti-migrant League condemned the amendment as a “criminal amnesty” for allegedly illegal workers.

Many of the tough provisions of Salvini’s migrant and security decrees are now being softened.”

  2. Danish study finds no clear evidence face masks protect wearer from Covid-19 infection
    https://www.thelocal.dk/20201118/danish-study-finds-no-clear-evidence-face-masks-protect-wearer-from-covid-19-infection

“A major Danish study has found face masks give no clear protection from Covid-19 infection to the wearer, but did not examine whether the wearer protects others by using the item.

The study compared how well protected one group of people who used masks were compared with a second group who did not use them. The results of the study were announced in a statement released by Copenhagen’s Rigshospitalet.

It is important to note that the study looked exclusively at the protective effects of masks for the wearer, and not at the wearer’s ability to protect others.

As such, the study cannot be used to draw conclusions on the general merits of using face masks as an effective preventative measure against Covid-19 infection, the researchers behind the study said.

The research project involved two groups totalling 6,000 people, and was conducted in April and May this year, when face mask use was not widespread in Denmark.

During this period, Denmark’s lockdown was still ongoing, with many businesses and public institutions closed.

In the non-face mask group, 2.1 percent of participants were infected with new coronavirus, while 1.8 percent of participants in the face mask-wearing group were infected.

That difference is not big enough to conclude with certainty a benefit of using face masks with regard to protecting oneself from infection.

The researchers stressed that there are limits to the conclusions that can be drawn from the results.

“The study thereby fails to confirm the expected halving of risk of infection for the wearer of the face mask, but the results could suggest a moderate level of protection of 15-20 percent,” the Danish-language press statement notes.

“According to the study authors, their findings offer evidence about the degree of protection mask wearers can anticipate in a setting where others are not wearing masks and where other public health measures, including social distancing, are in effect,” reads the English-language counterpart.

“The findings, however, should not be used to conclude that a recommendation for everyone to wear masks in the community would not be effective in reducing SARS-CoV-2 infections, because the trial did not test the role of masks in source control (transmission from an infected person to others) of SARS-CoV-2 infection,” it adds.

Neither did the study examine the effects of face masks in situations in which it is not possible to maintain a social distance, the researchers note.”

  4. Norway: Make ‘hateful’ comments about transgender people, even in private, and spend up to a year in prison
    https://rmx.news/article/article/norway-make-hateful-comments-about-transgender-people-even-in-private-and-spend-up-to-a-year-in-prison

“On Tuesday, Norway’s parliament outlawed hate speech against transgender and bisexual people, extending its penal code that has protected gay and lesbian people since 1981.

Now, even people speaking in private could be punished for the offensive use of the terms “gender”, “gender identity” or “gender expression” with up to a year in prison, including for offensive comments directed at transgender people. The new law also tightens up criminal penalties by allowing up to three years in prison for public comments that are allegedly discriminatory against trans people.

With the new legislation, the Norwegian Parliament has expanded and substantially tightened the anti-discrimination law of 1981. In the law, deputies replaced the term “homosexual orientation” with “sexual orientation”.

The law also tightens penalties for violent cases motivated by the victim’s sexual orientation.

Norwegian Justice Minister Monica Maeland supports the law. “As a group, they are more exposed to discrimination, harassment, and violence,” she said. The law is also being applauded by the Norwegian Association of Transgender People (ILGA), which states that “homophobic crimes” have become increasingly common in recent years.

The bill was approved on its second reading without a vote, a parliamentary spokeswoman said after it was backed by lawmakers on its first reading last week.

“I’m very relieved because the lack of legal protection has been an eyesore for trans people for many, many years,” said Birna Rorslett, vice president of the Association of Transgender People in Norway.

The law is causing a stir on social networks, especially regarding criminal penalties for statements individuals make in private, with freedom of speech advocates warning it amounts to a severe restriction on what an individual can say, including in the privacy of their own home. Lawyer Anine Kierulf from the University of Oslo claims a court must prove a direct attack or comments against the transgender, saying, “There are a lot of hateful things you can still say about these groups.”

However, there is no clear line what can be said and not said about transgender people and in what kind of circumstances it may lead to criminal prosecution. The European Union’s police force, Europol, for example, has conducted house raids in multiple countries, seized property, and investigated 96 suspects for social media comments that included insulting a female politician and anti-Semitic comments.

The Norwegian law comes at a time when European Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli is proposing financial sanctions for countries that do not respect the rights of the LGBTQI community, with countries like Hungary and Poland seen as potential targets. Hungary, for example, has recognised gender as biological. The Commissioner wants to link respect for these rights to European subsidies, which the EU is threatening to do at the moment. Hungary and Poland have vetoed the EU budget in response, setting up a showdown that remains unresolved.

“We have entered a new era in the fight for equality. This strategy is part of that era,” Dalli told Politico. Malta, where the Commissioner comes from, is, along with Denmark, at the top of the charts in terms of countries that support LGBT+ people. However, Poland and Hungary have strongly criticized its plans and threaten to bring the dispute before the European Court of Justice.

Norway is one of the most liberal countries in Europe for LGBT+ people, allowing trans people to legally change gender without a medical diagnosis in 2016.”

  6. Two men were hit with a 41-count criminal complaint for allegedly submitting thousands of fraudulent voter registration applications on behalf of homeless people in a bid to get one of them elected as mayor, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

Defendants Carlos Antonio De Bourbon Montenegro, 53, and Marcos Raul Arevalo, 34, are expected to be arraigned this afternoon.

Montenegro is accused of submitting more than 8,000 fraudulent voter registration applications from July to October. He also allegedly committed perjury by falsifying names, addresses and signatures on nomination paperwork for a mayoral run in the city of Hawthorne located in Los Angeles County, authorities said.

  7. In Nevada, A Corrupt Cash-For-Votes Scheme Is Hiding In Plain Sight
In tribal areas, Native American nonprofits illegally offered gift cards, electronics, and other ‘prizes’ in an effort to get out the vote—for Joe Biden.

    NOVEMBER 18, 2020
It should surprise no one that Nevada has problems with election security and voter fraud, especially after the state mailed an absentee ballot to every registered voter this year whether he requested one or not, then received back more than eight times as many mail-in ballots as they did in 2016. That’s part of the reason Republicans in Nevada filed another lawsuit on Tuesday alleging widespread voter fraud and irregularities.

The mass mailing of unsolicited ballots is of course a recipe for fraud, even more so in a state where the voter rolls contain tens of thousands of people who haven’t voted or updated their records in more than a decade. This is how you get dead people voting, as we reported here at The Federalist and as Tucker Carlson noted last week.

But there’s another, less sensational but perhaps more consequential election scandal in Nevada that hasn’t yet made headlines, even though it’s been hiding in plain sight for weeks now. Under the guise of supposedly nonprofit, nonpartisan get-out-the-vote campaigns, Native American voter advocacy groups in Nevada handed out gift cards, electronics, clothing, and other items to voters in tribal areas, in many cases documenting the exchange of ballots for “prizes” on their own Facebook pages, sometimes even while wearing official Joe Biden campaign gear.

  8. So here we have it. This is a link to a report (in danish), made by two danish organisations. One is a group of journalists and internet experts in learning platforms, who analyses technological tendencies and social media subcultures. The other is a voluntary organisation who works for mens mental health, prevention of violent tendenceies, and redefining masculine stereotypes. In this report, made by funding from many organisations, (one of them is the Danish Security And Intelligence Service), they describe the subcultures of the internet (IDW, right-wing radical groups), and talk about how these internet communities radicalize people. I can understand the report in some ways. There will be examples of people, who get a confirmation bias of these communities. But the worst part of it, was a direct quotation from one of the “victims” of the internet radiclization:

“Women are chaos and men are order. Thats why we live in a patriarchal society.”

    ?

Of course there are no sources of the interviewers, so it is very easy to make up statements from so called “interviews” of victims of internet subcultures.
I guess they didn’t read their Neumann, or just 12 Rules For Life in it’s entirety. It makes me sad.

  9. Contact GOP Legislative Leaders In Key States
By Dick Morris on November 16, 2020
Call and write Republican Legislative Leaders in key battleground states.

Demand that they vote not to certify electors until their respective states audit the election results with a full recount, with Republican observers no more than three feet away and with full verification of signatures and the dates on which ballots were received.

Remember, the U.S. Constitution (Art II Sec 1) provides:

Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress:

The owner of a BMW that was spray-painted with racist and homophobic graffiti in October is now facing insurance fraud charges.

Erie County District Attorney John Flynn announced Tuesday that, Clifton Eutsey, 18, allegedly spray-painted messages of hate on his own car in North Buffalo.

Swastikas, the N-word, KKK and profanity against Black Lives Matter were spray-painted all over the car, a BMW X5. The police report also stated that sugar was poured into the gas tank.

And if you want to know why Eutsey did it, here’s just one of the sympathetic news reports, also from WGRZ:
