Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    • People are getting tired of the violence and the lack of police resonse, they are starting to act in self defense.

  1. Five Killed in Somalia Restaurant Suicide Attack
    https://www.thedefensepost.com/2020/11/17/somalia-restaurant-suicide-attack/

“Five people, some of them police, were killed and more than 10 injured Tuesday when a suicide bomber attacked a restaurant in the Somali capital of Mogadishu, police said.

The officer and witnesses said the attacker walked into the restaurant near a police academy and blew himself up.

“The death of five people, two of them members of the police, were confirmed, and more than 10 others were wounded,” Mohamed Abdirahman, a police officer at the scene, told AFP.

“The wounded people were rushed to hospital, some of them with serious injuries.”

Witness Abdukadir Hussein said there had been dozens of people in the restaurant when the blast occurred.

“Many of the people inside were wounded and I personally saw the… dead bodies of two people, the whole area was in a mess as the blast destroyed everything,” he said.

There was no immediate claim for the attack.

The Al-Qaeda linked Islamist group Al Shabaab frequently attacks civilian and government targets in Mogadishu, which it controlled until it was driven out by African Union troops in 2011.”

  2. Iranian Air Defense Ready to Train Iraqi Cadets
    https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2020/11/17/2391306/iranian-air-defense-ready-to-train-iraqi-cadets

“The Iranian Air Defense university is ready to run training courses for the Iraqi cadets, a top commander said.

In a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart in Tehran on Tuesday, Commander of Air Defense Force of the Iranian Army Brigadier General Alireza Sabahifard stressed the need for close interaction between the two countries in ensuring security of the region’s airspace.

The general also noted that Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense university can accept students from Iraq and share its military know-how, highlighting the Islamic Republic’s great advances in the air defense industries.

Iran is also prepared to supply and strengthen Iraq’s air defense equipment, the commander added.

Sabahifard also proposed the idea of forming a joint integrated air defense network between Iran and Iraq, saying Tehran can also help reinforce the Arab country’s radar network.

“Cooperation between the two friends and neighbors, Iran and Iraq, would suitably ensure security of the region’s airspace,” Sabahifard said, adding that security cooperation with the neighboring states is a main strategy of the Islamic Republic.

Iranian and Iraqi military officials have held several meetings in recent days as Defense Minister of Iraq Lt. General Juma Anad Saadoun has visited Tehran with a ranking delegation.

In a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart on Saturday, Defense Minister of Iran Brigadier General Amir Hatami expressed the Islamic Republic’s readiness to strengthen Iraq’s defense power and supply its demands for military equipment.”

  3. Qatar Urges Arab States to Form United Front against Israel Instead of Normalization
    https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2020/11/17/2390923/qatar-urges-arab-states-to-form-united-front-against-israel-instead-of-normalization

“Qatar’s foreign minister said Arab states, instead of normalizing ties with Israel, should create a united front to end the regime’s occupation and safeguard Palestinians’ interests.
“I think it’s better to have a united (Arab) front to put the interests of the Palestinians (first) to end the (Israeli) occupation,” Qatar Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani told the online Global Security Forum, Reuters reported.

He said division was not in the interest of concerted Arab efforts to get the Israelis to negotiate with the Palestinians and resolve the decades-long conflict between the sides.

However, for the states who established ties, “it is up to them at the end of the day to decide what is best for their countries”, he said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signed normalization agreements with Emirati Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani in a Washington-brokered event hosted by US President Donald Trump at the White House on September 15.

Palestinians, who seek an independent state with Jerusalem al-Quds as its capital view the deals as betrayal of their cause.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas protested the normalization deals with Israel, saying they will be fruitless as long as the United States and the Israeli regime do not recognize the rights of the Palestinian nation and refuse to resolve the issue of Palestinian refugees.”

  4. Int’l Human Rights Campaign Documents Brutal Suppression of Iranian Protests
    https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2629896/int%E2%80%99l-human-rights-campaign-documents-brutal-suppression-iranian-protests

“On the anniversary of the deadliest day of anti-regime protests in Iran, Amnesty International launched a new microsite, available both in English and Persian, which documents how the lethal crackdown by Iranian authorities that left at least 304 people dead was hidden from the world.

Iranian authorities had deliberately shut down the internet during nationwide protests in November 2019, hiding the true scale of unlawful killings by security forces, the organization reported.

To date, no one has been criminally investigated or held accountable for the killings.

Amnesty International also reiterated its call for member states of the United Nations Human Rights Council to mandate an inquiry into the unlawful killings to ensure those responsible for ordering, planning and carrying out the crimes are brought to justice in fair trials.

Amnesty International’s statistics, however, are much lower than the US State Department’s estimate of about 1,500 Iranians being slain by the government crackdown.

The State Department’s statistics are supported by a 2019 Reuters report that quoted four Iranian officials as saying that suppressing protests was ordered directly by the Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

In the absence of online documentation during the internet shutdown in Iran, Amnesty International received information from human rights activists and journalists. To verify and add to these reports, the human rights group interviewed family members and friends, medical workers and eyewitnesses, among others.

Researchers also cross-checked funeral posters, gravesites, death certificates and local media reports.

The result was a detailed record of the killings the internet shutdown tried to hide from the world and the Iranian authorities continue to deny.

“When news of the deadly crackdown began to emerge from Iran last November, the world was shocked by the brutal violence of the security forces. The authorities deliberately blocked internet access inside Iran, hiding the true extent of the horrendous human rights violations that they were carrying out across the country,” said Diana Eltahawy, Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa at Amnesty International.

“The government thought they could silence the population by taking the country offline, but the Iranian people were determined to tell the world the truth. Our new website is a tribute to the courage of everyone who captured on camera the scenes of violence that the authorities wanted to keep hidden.””

  5. Turkish Parliament Approves Troop Observer Deployment to Karabakh
    https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2631191/turkish-parliament-approves-troop-observer-deployment-karabakh

“Turkey’s parliament on Tuesday approved the deployment of troops to join Russian forces at an observation post in Nagorno-Karabakh after Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a Russian-brokered ceasefire deal to end fighting over the enclave.

The mandate will allow Turkish troops to be stationed at the center for one year as part of an accord between Ankara and Moscow to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire, which locked in territorial gains by Azerbaijan. Some 2,000 Russian peacekeeping troops are now also deploying to the region.

In a letter to parliament asking for the mandate’s approval, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the presence of Turkish troops and, “if needed, civilian personnel from our country, (will) be to the benefit of the peace and prosperity of the regional people, and necessary for our national interests”.

The ceasefire signed on Nov. 10 halted military action in and around Nagorno-Karabakh, internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan but populated by ethnic Armenians, after the worst fighting in the region since the 1990s.

Turkey has accused Armenia of occupying Azeri lands and pledged solidarity with its ethnic Turkic kin in Azerbaijan.

Ankara has blamed the Minsk group – formed to mediate the conflict and led by Russia, France and the United States – of freezing the issue for nearly 30 years.

A Russian military delegation held talks in Turkey last week to discuss the parameters of the Turkish-Russian center. Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on Tuesday Ankara and Moscow’s cooperation would continue.”

  6. French Police Clear Migrant Camp Near National Stadium
    https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2630626/french-police-clear-migrant-camp-near-national-stadium

“French police on Tuesday cleared hundreds of migrants from an illegal camp next door to the French national sports stadium, the Stade de France, just north of Paris.

Police arrived before dawn at the camp, a mix of tents and improvised shelters made out of plastic sheeting and cardboard boxes under a flyover on the edge of the capital.

The migrants, which included some families with small children, were ordered on to buses. When there was a crush to board the buses, police deployed tear gas, according to a Reuters journalist at the scene.

Some children were caught up in the tear gas.

Representatives of non-governmental organizations that work with the migrants said there were at least 2,000 people at the camp. Several hours after the raid started, hundreds were still waiting to board buses.

Police said the people moved on from the camp would be given alternative accommodation.”

  7. US assistant secretary of state visits Saudi Arabia to enhance security ties
    https://saudigazette.com.sa/article/600409/SAUDI-ARABIA/US-assistant-secretary-of-state-visits-Saudi-Arabia-to-enhance-security-ties

“US Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs R. Clarke Cooper held key talks with the leadership of the Royal Saudi Air Force on Tuesday on the first day of his two-day visit to Saudi Arabia.

“Important discussion today with the command leadership of the Royal Saudi Air Force on addressing shared challenges as the KSA and US work closer together on security cooperation imperatives, counterterrorism, and defense trade,” Cooper said in a tweet on Tuesday.

According to a press release from the US Department of State, Assistant Secretary Cooper is expected to meet with senior government officials in Riyadh to discuss security cooperation and defense trade.

Saudi Arabia is a strong US partner in security and counterterrorism, the press release added.

Assistant Secretary Cooper will meet with senior government officials in Riyadh to discuss security cooperation and defense trade.

The US assistant secretary of state is currently on an official visit to some of the key Middle East states.

Before visiting the Kingdom, Cooper was in the United Arab Emirates for two days where he held consultations with senior civilian and military officials in Abu Dhabi on deepening bilateral security partnership and proposed sales of advanced defensive capabilities to deter Iran and its regional proxies.

The assistant secretary of state also discussed the changing regional security landscape and increased opportunities for cooperation in the wake of the UAE’s decision to normalize diplomatic relations with Israel.

Cooper will be in Bahrain on Thursday and Friday where he will discuss expanding partnerships in maritime security and defense trade, according to the press release.

Bahrain hosts the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet and its security cooperation with the US strengthens interoperability for regional security and counterterrorism cooperation, boosts its maritime defenses, and improves its counter-terrorism capabilities in a manner that respects the human rights of its citizens, the Department of State said.

The assistant secretary of state will also visit Israel on the last leg of the Middle East visit.”

  8. Muslim Pro prayer app cuts ties with tech firm after US military buys user data
    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/us-military-data-muslim-pro-apps-ties-severed

“Muslim Pro, a popular Muslim praying app, told Middle East Eye on Tuesday it had severed all ties with a location technology company that reportedly sold its user data to the US military.

The app, dubbed the “most popular Muslim app in the world”, has been downloaded at least 95 million times in 200 countries, according to its website.

The app gives users Muslim prayer times and shows them the direction of Mecca depending on their location. It also provides audio recordings of the Quran and reminders for users to pray and read certain Quranic verses.

Motherboard, a media platform within Vice Media, on Monday revealed that Muslim Pro had sold its user location data to X-Mode, which then sold it to third-party contractors who subsequently gave it to the US military…”

  9. Saudi prince urges Biden against rejoining Iran deal
    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/saudi-prince-urges-biden-against-rejoining-iran-deal

“Senior Saudi royal Turki al-Faisal appeared to preemptively push back against the policies of US President-elect Joe Biden, urging the incoming Democratic administration on Tuesday against rejoining the Iran nuclear deal.

In an address to the National Council on US-Arab Relations, a Washington-based advocacy group, Prince Turki warned that an American return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) would harm the region’s stability.

The multilateral accord saw Iran scale back its nuclear programme in exchange for lifting sanctions against its economy. President Trump nixed the deal in May of 2018.

Biden has vowed to abide by it again if Iran returns to full compliance to then start talks over broader issues.

But Prince Turki said comprehensive negotiations must take place before the reimplementation of the JCPOA.

“While we all aspire to have Iran back as a normal peaceful nation state within the international community, the last 40 years experience with Iran’s regime is not encouraging,” the Saudi royal said on Tuesday.

“Therefore, rejoining the deal as it is would not do service to stability in our region.”

He added that if Tehran gets sanction relief, it would subject Washington to “blackmailing” when holding talks over the Iranian role in countries like Iraq and Syria.

“Drag negotiations is a part of the Iranian negotiating strategy,” Prince Faisal said.

“Negotiating the JCPOA took years to be accomplished while Iran worked on its nuclear program. Mr. President-elect, do not repeat the mistakes and shortcomings of the first deal.”…”

Ambassador Karima Benyaich said the embassy was following up on acts of vandalism perpetrated by supporters of the Polisario Front, according to Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP).

Benyaich stated that these “criminal and irresponsible acts have been carried out by a group of criminals sponsored by the separatist Polisario gang,” according to the same source.

  11. Saudi activists give evidence of human rights violations to British MPs
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20201117-saudi-activists-give-evidence-of-human-rights-violations-to-british-mps/

“A panel of leading human rights organisations, NGOs and British MPs today discussed the ongoing detention of two senior Saudi princes while listening to testimonies about the Kingdom’s increasing level of rights violations. The online meeting saw the panel of parliamentarians and international lawyers discussing the imprisonment of former Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Nayef and Prince Ahmed Bin Abdul-Aziz by the regime in Riyadh.

Chaired by Conservative MP Crispin Blunt, the panel included Conservative MP Imran Ahmad Khan, Liberal Democrat MP Layla Moran, the deputy director of Human Rights Watch’s Middle East and North Africa division, Adam Coogle, the human rights lawyer and director of MENA Rights Group Ines Osman, and Saudi journalist Safa Al-Ahmad from the human rights organisation ALQST. They were joined by prominent Saudi activists such as Abdullah Alaoudh, the son of detained Saudi scholar Salman al-Ouda, and Alia Al-Hathloul, the sister of the jailed Saudi women’s rights activist Loujain Al-Hathloul.

Alaoudh mentioned the Kingdom’s kidnapping of dissidents in other countries, as happened to Loujain Al-Hathloul in the UAE. Similar methods were also employed in the murder of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul in 2018, and the failed attempt to kidnap former Saudi security chief Saad Al-Jabri in Canada.

This, said Alaoudh, is the result of the deterioration of Saudi Arabia’s already poor human rights record. Following Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman’s appointment in 2015 and the ousting of Bin Nayef, the Kingdom has seen an “unprecedented concentration of power” under the ambitious prince. Bin Salman is now the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia.

Since that palace coup, he has implemented a series of social and economic reforms ranging from allowing women to drive to the abolition of gender-segregated public space. Such reforms, however, are described as superficial as they do not include political reforms which advance democracy in the Gulf state. According to Alaoudh, there is still no independent civil society and any discussion of human rights issues is seen as “conspiring against the state”.

The superficiality of the reforms is part of Saudi Arabia’s huge public relations campaign, said Alia Al-Hathloul, and does not represent the reality there. She cited the justice system as a key example of this. The judge in her sister Loujain’s trial was, for example, reportedly awaiting orders rather than acting independently. It is also evident in the Kingdom’s other bodies, such as its Human Rights Commission, which she said are not independent but subject to government control.

The laws covering prisoner rights that Saudi Arabia does have, explained Ms Al-Hathloul, are on paper only, and twisted to make sure that they are not effective. An example she gave was when her sister was sent for a medical check-up but was forced to speak only Arabic to the English-speaking doctor who could not understand her. All of this, she pointed out, was done as part of the Saudi authorities’ extensive use of torture on her sister and other detainees.

“We hear the word ‘torture’ and forget what it really means,” she told the panel. “It took months before [Loujain] admitted that she was tortured because she was so scared… she thought that she was going to die.”

The panel was also told by the women’s rights campaigner Bethany Al-Haidari about the horrific conditions inside Saudi prisons. “We’ve heard reports of minors in prison being raped to death and moderate clerics being sodomised to death,” she explained.

According to the ALQST’s Safa Al-Ahmad, the monarchy does not benefit directly from its human rights violations at home and abroad. The primary aim is to silence Saudis through fear and by warning them not to criticise its policies or demand rights.

The panel session, hosted by the London-based law firm Bindmans LLP, was held four days before the virtual G20 Leaders’ Summit is set to be hosted controversially by Saudi Arabia. In a press release announcing the discussion, it was announced that the Saudi Ambassador to London, Prince Khalid Bin Bandar Bin Sultan Al-Saud, was invited to join in the panel discussion but did not respond.

The conclusions and recommendations of the panel, based upon the evidence presented, are set to be published by the parliamentary panel later this year.”

    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/393974/Egypt/Politics-/UK-allocated-%C2%A3-mln-to-support-Egypts-social-protec.aspx

“The UK allocated £1.8 million through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to Egypt in order to support social protection advocacy by the country’s social solidarity ministry for the most vulnerable families in society, a statement by the British embassy in Cairo read on Tuesday.

“The partnership aims to support the most vulnerable families, improve their livelihoods and enhance accessibility of vulnerable groups to improved social care and welfare services through introducing a comprehensive awareness program to increase the vulnerable families’ accessibility to social protection and economic empowerment services,” the statement said.

The statement also mentioned that the awareness program addresses behavior change on issues related to positive practices in terms of protection from COVID-19, the protection of girls from traditional discriminatory practices, the value of education, and good health practices for deprived groups within the society.

The British embassy said that the social solidarity ministry was playing an instrumental role in responding to the COVID-19 crisis in Egypt.

“The new partnership will also support the expansion of the present comprehensive social protection awareness and advocacy programme ‘Waai’ that focuses on enhancing awareness and knowledge of the vulnerable groups on social protection services,” the statement said.

In addition, talks with the Taliban in Qatar had hampered the security forces’ achievements, else the Afghan defense forces would acquire further achievements on the battlefield.

He said the Taliban had used the Qatar office to held talks on peace and ceasefire, on the other hand, escalated their insurgency activities around the country, in view of the fact that security forces honor peace negotiations, they were ordered to take defensive positions.

This is while the cabinet ministers are presenting their plans to the Wolesi Jirga for a vote, and today, the Minister of National Defense, Asadullah Khalid, presented his plan, respectively.”

  17. French philosopher: Trump didn’t launch any wars and restored the economy, but the French media still hates him
    https://rmx.news/article/article/french-philosopher-trump-didn-t-launch-any-wars-and-restored-the-economy-but-the-french-media-still-hates-him

“Donald Trump’s track record as US president has featured some major and undeniable highlights, French philosopher, author and politician Luc Ferry said in the evening political talk show of French free-to-air news channel La Chaîne Info (LCI) on Sunday.

“Trump did not launch any wars, he signed peace treaties that were not trivial, and he recovered the US economy — everybody agrees he did that in a way superior to his predecessor,” Ferry said, adding that the French media is hysterically opposed to Trump.

“There has been delirious hatred created against Trump in the French media,” Ferry said. The negative coverage in France reflects trends seen across the European media landscape, with countries like Germany also producing overwhelmingly negative coverage of Trump.

Biden is known for not only voting for the catastrophic Iraq War but also making speeches to promote the conflict. He also supported the foreign intervention in Serbia in 1999 that brought the US and Russia closer to a direct conflict. Biden notably voted against foreign intervention during the 1991 Persian Gulf War, and he says that he regrets that decision. While Biden said this year that he does not support a “coup” against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, he emphasized that Erdo?an needs to “pay a price” and the opposition needs to be supported in the country — comments which Trump slammed as “interventionist”.

Former President Barack Obama bombed Libya and supported the ouster of Muammar Gaddafi from power, who was brutally murdered at the hands of militias. Although widely seen as an authoritarian ruler, Gaddafi kept the peace in Libya and provided Libyans with free education and a high standard of living. The country has since descended into chaos with rival militias battling for control until this day. Gaddafi’s death also helped spark the migrant crisis, as the penalty for human trafficking under his rule was death. Now, human traffickers openly sell migrants in slave markets.

Former President George W. Bush launched the Iraq War and Afghanistan War, both of which the US remains embroiled until this day, and which arguably sparked the rise of ISIS due to destabilization in Iraq.

Former President Bill Clinton launched the Yugoslav War in 1999, and his predecessor, George H.W. Bush launched the Persian Gulf War.

Trump is the first president in decades who launched no major regime-toppling war of intervention, a point that Ferry thinks many are unwilling to give Trump credit for.

The 69-year-old Ferry was French minister of culture between 2002 and 2004 under President Jacques Chirac and professor at the Paris Diderot University from 1996 to 2011.

Ferry also said that under Joe Biden presidency would represent the scariest political correctness and the United States would be less friendly towards France.

“Let me just say what I’m afraid of: it is well known that Joe Biden is positioned right from the Democratic Party, but the left and center of the Democratic Party, which is the quintessential representation of the most scary political correctness possible,” Ferry said.
“I am afraid of a terribly politically correct Democrat president who will not be friendly towards the French lay attitude and the idea of French republicanism.””

More than 400 Republican voters in Pennsylvania say they requested mail-in ballots and returned them to vote, but the state absentee voting data say the ballots weren’t returned, according to a fraud detection team that contacted the voters.

And more than 500 voters said they received mail-in ballots despite not requesting them, according to the team.

The team was put together by Matt Braynard, former data and strategy director for President Donald Trump’s 2016 election campaign. The team analyzed the data and set up a call center to verify election inconsistencies in several states, including Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Arizona, where the Trump campaign is contesting the results.

Two men were arrested and charged in Southern California on voter fraud charges after they allegedly submitted thousands of fraudulent voter registration applications on behalf of homeless people, said the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office on Tuesday.

Carlos Antonio De Bourbon Montenegro, 53, and Marcos Raul Arevalo, 34, were charged with one count each of conspiracy to commit voter fraud, eight counts of voter fraud, four counts of procuring and offering a false or forged instrument, and other charges, said the DA’s office in a news release.

The office said Montenegro allegedly submitted more than “8,000 fraudulent voter registration applications between July and October 2020.” He’s also accused of falsifying names, signatures, and addresses on nomination papers “under penalty of perjury to run for mayor in the city of Hawthorne.”

Montenegro also faces another 10 counts of voter fraud, seven counts of procuring and offering a false or forged instrument, two counts of perjury, and five misdemeanor counts of interference with a prompt transfer of a completed affidavit, the office said.

Protesters rallying in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on Nov. 14, stressed concerns of communism threatening the United States, adding that the fight is more than just a feud between the Republicans and Democrats.

“It seems like communism is spreading in America faster than this virus is. … We’ve seen a lot of other nations fall to the tyranny of communism. … We have to realize we cannot let that happen here in America because our fall will be much worse than all those other countries, and as goes the States, so goes the world,” said rally participant Michael Kassman.
