Reader’s Links for October 20, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

The Departments of Justice and Homeland Security Publish Final Rule to Restrict Certain Criminal Aliens’ Eligibility for Asylum
New Mandatory Bars Prevent Convicted Felons, Drunk Drivers, Gang Members, and Other Criminal Aliens from Receiving Asylum
Today, the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security announced the publication of a Final Rule amending their respective regulations to prevent certain categories of criminal aliens from obtaining asylum in the United States. The rule takes effect 30 days after publication of the Final Rule in the Federal Register, which is scheduled to occur on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Asylum is a discretionary immigration benefit that generally can be sought by eligible aliens who are physically present or arriving in the United States, irrespective of their status, as provided in section 208 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), 8 U.S.C. § 1158. However, in the INA, Congress barred certain categories of aliens from receiving asylum. In addition to the statutory bars, Congress delegated to the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security the authority to establish by regulation additional bars on asylum eligibility to the extent they are consistent with the asylum statute, as well as to establish “any other conditions or limitations on the consideration of an application for asylum” that are consistent with the INA.

  4. Documents produced by the city of Philadelphia under a federal court order show millions of dollars in nonprofit grant money donated by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is being used to quadruple the number of voting places and massively grow the number of ballots cast in the Democratic stronghold on Nov. 3.

The memos were turned over in a federal lawsuit filed by the conservative Thomas More Society, and they detail how city election officials filed a grant request in August to the Zuckerberg-funded Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL) by promising to open 800 polling places and grow voting to as many as 800,000 ballots cast in the general election.

The number of promised polling places is more than four times the 190 polling places opened during the city’s pandemic-affected primary earlier this year, and the promised turnout is estimated to be as many as 120,000 voters larger than the 2016 presidential election, which drew about 680,000 voters. About 80% of the vote went to Democrats in 2016 in the city.

“The Office of the City Commissioners understands CTCL’s interest in maximizing the number of polling locations and will work to identify over 800 locations,” states the city application seeking $10 million for the fall election.

    File
    Philadelphia CTCL Grant plan.pdf
Zuckerberg announced several weeks ago he has donated $250 million to CTCL to help local governments across the country hold elections this fall in the midst of the pandemic. He has since augmented that amount with another $100 million in recent days.

But the Thomas More Society and its lead counsel Phill Kline have filed lawsuits against several of the jurisdictions receiving CTCL grants, arguing the money is wrongly privatizing an election function that should be handled entirely by government and that the grants are targeting mostly Democratic strongholds, raising questions of election interference.

Kline, director of Thomas More’s Amistad Society Project, told Just the News that of the top 20 CTCL grants, amounting to $63 million, only one for $289,000 has gone to a county Trump won in 2016.

A federal judge in Pennsylvania recently ordered Philadelphia officials to produce records on how it applied for and won its $10 million grant, and the first records produced indicate the city is using the Zuckerberg money to compensate poll workers with “hazard pay,” including election judges who decide ballot integrity issues.

The second article looked into the details of the fraudulent bond deal which left an Indian Tribe saddled with a mountain of debt, and buyers of the Indian Tribe’s bonds the likely possibility that the bonds were worthless and the money they invested has been lost. The scheme was relatively sophisticated, with a lot of moving parts, and involved a variety of “players.”

After the release last week of emails from Hunter Biden’s laptop exposing some of the business schemes he’s been involved in, a person convicted in the Indian Tribe bond fraud, Bevan Cooney, has now made available approximately 26,000 emails in his Gmail account, suggesting there are documents there that implicate Hunter Biden in the Indian bond fraud scheme — and probably a lot more.

Cooney has released the emails because he claims that Hunter Biden improperly escaped accountability and responsibility for his role in the fraud for which seven other people have gone to prison.

  9. Indescribable Act of Terror?

What the Michigan kidnap plot reveals about the FBI, the deep state, and the correlation of forces.
Tue Oct 20, 2020 Lloyd Billingsley

“While the political rhetoric in our nation may at times be divisive I am encouraged by the united front our law enforcement community has displayed in response to this indescribable act of terror.”

That was Michigan attorney general Dana Nessel, after the arrest of Brian Higgins, the 14th person to be charged in the plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Michiganders might expect an act of terror to involve the murder of innocents, such as the 14 slain by Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik five years ago in San Bernardino. In the Michigan case, nobody was killed and no shots fired, yet 14 men are now charged with providing material support for a terrorist act.

As Fox News Detroit reports, federal authorities were able to stop the plot “using secret informants who sometimes wore wires,” and “informants and undercover agents embedded themselves in the groups and secretly recorded what they saw and heard.” According to the FBI, one of the kidnappers said Whitmer “has no checks and balances at all. She has uncontrolled power right now. All good things must come to an end.”

Another one of those “mostly peaceful protests” erupted over the weekend in Santiago, Chile, on the anniversary of last year’s protests—read: riots—against the Chilean government.

On Sunday demonstrators and criminals smashed up businesses, looted stores, attacked police, and even vandalized and burned two churches.

The riots happened one week prior to a referendum on a new constitution, of which the rioters are in favor. The current constitution was written during the autocratic rule of General Augusto Pinochet, with two-thirds of the Chilean electorate voting to adopt it back in 1980.

  14. Anti-Trump Protesters Pretend to Eat Bloodied Heart of President, Burn American Flag
By Matthew Impelli On 10/19/20 at 10:16 AM EDT

Protesters opposing President Donald Trump on Sunday were filmed burning an American flag and pretending to eat a bloodied heart of the president.

Twitter user Al The Great wrote as a caption to the video, “Antifa burn the US flag and eat a heart symbolic of the President during an anti-democrat violence protest in #Boston #Massachusetts on 10.18.20.”

In the video, one protester can be seen walking through the smoke from a burning American flag as he is surrounded by fellow protesters. He then takes what appears to be a bloody heart, rips it open and pours it on his face, as those around him clap and yell.

  15. Soldiers open fire on Nigerian anti-police brutality protesters in Lagos – witnesses
    https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-nigeria-protests-shooting/soldiers-open-fire-on-nigerian-protesters-in-lagos-witnesses-idUKKBN2752OT

“LAGOS (Reuters) – Soldiers opened fire on Nigerian protesters in the Lekki district of the commercial capital Lagos on Tuesday, shooting at least two people, three witnesses told Reuters.

Protesters have demonstrated here for more than a week over allegations of police brutality in Nigeria.

“They started firing ammunition toward the crowd. They were firing into the crowd,” said Alfred Ononugbo, 55, a security officer. “I saw the bullet hit one or two persons,” he said.

Lagos state government said it would open an investigation into the shooting, which witnesses said took place around 7 p.m. (1800 GMT).

“There have been reports of shooting at the Lekki Toll Plaza,” Gboyega Akosile, a spokesman for the governor, said on Twitter. “The State Government has ordered an investigation into the incident,” he said in another tweet.

A Nigerian army spokesman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Inyene Akpan, 26, a photographer, said more than 20 soldiers arrived at the toll gate in Lekki and opened fire. He said he saw two people being shot.

Akinbosola Ogunsanya, a third witness, said he saw around 10 people being shot. He also said he saw soldiers remove bodies.

A Reuters witness heard sirens and gunfire.

Authorities on Tuesday imposed a round-the-clock curfew on Lagos, which contains Africa’s biggest city, in response to the protests, which the state governor said had turned violent.

The national police chief also ordered the immediate deployment of anti-riot forces nationwide following increased attacks on police facilities, a police spokesman said.”

  16. Amnesty International: Abuse, Exploitation of Domestic Workers in Qatar
    https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2575546/amnesty-international-abuse-exploitation-domestic-workers-qatar

“Migrant domestic workers employed in Qatar have been pushed to breaking point by extreme overwork, lack of rest, and abusive and degrading treatment, according to a new report by Amnesty International.

The report, which was released on Tuesday, noted that domestic workers in Qatar have their passports confiscated by their employers, making it very difficult to flee the abuse – adding that women have been driven to “breaking point” by being overworked with no time to rest while suffering abusive and degrading misconduct.

Fifteen women said they faced physical abuse at the hands of their employer or employer’s family, out of a total of 105 interviews with women who worked as live-in domestic staff.

Of those interviewed, 90 out of the 105 said they routinely worked more than 14 hours each day, while half worked more than 18 hours per day, almost double the hours their contracts stipulated.

Many of the women said they were never given a single day off during their employment, and 89 of the interviewees said they regularly worked seven days a week. A large majority – 87 – had their passport seized by their employer.

Qatar has introduced a Domestic Workers Law for its 173,000 migrant domestic workers – with limits on working hours, mandatory daily breaks, a weekly day off, and paid holidays. However, many women told Amnesty they were scared to refuse their employers’ endless requests, even when they desperately needed to rest.

Steve Cockburn, Head of Economic and Social Justice at Amnesty International, said: “Domestic workers told us they were working an average of 16 hours a day, every day of the week, far more than the law allows.

“Almost all had their passport confiscated by their employers, and others described not getting their salaries and being subjected to vicious insults and assaults.

“The overall picture is of a system which continues to allow employers to treat domestic workers not as human beings but as possessions.”

Amnesty called on Qatari authorities to take concrete steps to ensure full implementation of the law, establish strict inspection mechanisms, and take serious action against abusive employers.”

  17. Greece Asks EU Countries to Halt Military Exports to Turkey
    https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2575936/greece-asks-eu-countries-halt-military-exports-turkey

“Greece has asked fellow European Union countries to halt military exports to Turkey, the country’s foreign minister said Tuesday, amid a deepening dispute between the two neighbors over maritime boundaries in the eastern Mediterranean.

Nikos Dendias also said he has written to EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi to complain that Turkey is violating its customs union with the bloc.

“Turkey continues to violate the fundamental criteria of integration into the EU,” Dendias said, after a meeting with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama in Tirana. Turkey has been a candidate to join the EU since 1999, although entry negotiations have been long stalled.

Dendias said he had asked his EU counterparts to halt the export of military equipment to Turkey “given that this equipment is being used in actions that destabilize our region.”

The minister did not name any specific countries, but Greek media reported the letters had been sent to the German, Spanish and Italian foreign ministers.

In his letter to Varhelyi, Dendias said he “stressed that Turkey is violating its customs union” and asked for the EU to examine imposing measures, including potentially suspending the customs union “as a clear message of condemnation for the continuing Turkish behavior of violations.”

The customs union, in place since the mid-1990s, allows for the free movement of goods between the 27-nation bloc and Turkey.

Neighbors and nominal NATO allies Greece and Turkey have historically testy relations and are divided by a series of issues, including territorial disputes. But relations have soured significantly this year, with a spat over maritime boundaries and rights to potential undersea resources leading to the two countries’ warships facing off and sparking fears of open conflict.

Turkey has twice sent its seismic research vessel Oruc Reis to prospect for gas in an area Greece says is over its own continental shelf and where it claims exclusive rights. Turkey accuses Greece of trying to grab an unfair share of resources in the Mediterranean.

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said Tuesday that Turkey favors resolving disputes through negotiations but added the country would not “bow” to pressure.

“Let there be exploratory talks, let there be talks within NATO… Let’s resolve our problems by talking,” Akar said during a video conference with commanders. “But everyone must have seen and understood by now that we won’t bow to any fait accompli, any force or pressure.”

Greece has also said it is prepared to negotiate, but argues that it cannot do so while Turkey is actively prospecting in an area in which it claims exclusive rights.”

  18. Saudi companies’ boycott to cost Turkey $20 billion; 1.5 million tourists
    https://saudigazette.com.sa/article/599352/SAUDI-ARABIA/Saudi-companies-boycott-to-cost-Turkey-$20-billion-15-million-tourists

“The campaign to boycott Turkish products in Saudi Arabia has gained momentum, with more companies and establishments operating in various commercial and industrial sectors joining in the drive.

There has been a tremendous response to a popular boycott campaign called by the private sector last week.

Ajlan Al-Ajlan, chairman of the Council of Saudi Chambers and Riyadh Chamber, said that the initial boycotts would cost the Turkish economy nearly $20 billion.

“I think that stopping 1.5 million Saudi tourists from being in Turkey will cost it a lot, in addition to thousands of investors in all sectors, whether in import, tourism or investment, and it is the duty of every sector to stop dealing with a country that targets our government and our people,” he said.

He noted that this is a call from the smallest store in a remote village to the largest store in large cities in Saudi Arabia to boycott products of Turkey, whose hostility to the Kingdom and its citizens is no longer a hidden thing.

The boycott move by companies and retail stores came as an escalation of widespread popular rejection of the Turkish products in response to Turkey’s policies of intervention and hostility toward the Kingdom and attempts to expand its hegemony to many countries in the region.

Several well-known companies, working in the field of furnishings and retail chains that have hundreds of branches in the country, joined the campaign. Many real estate companies and electronic stores have announced their plans to boycott Turkish products through statements published in their official accounts on social media.

There are several big companies and factories with business chains across the country and they continue to join the popular campaign to boycott the Turkish products, and they include Abdul Latif Furniture, Al Watania Market, Al Qafari Furniture and Carpet Group, Tamimi Markets, Al Othaim Market, Astra Markets and Danube.

These developments come at a time when the policies of the Turkish government, headed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and its interference in the affairs of many countries in the Middle East region, have put Turkey in a critical position in the period when its economy suffers many imbalances, most notably the collapse of the Turkish lira against foreign currencies, and the government’s inability to curb this collapse.

All these have affected Turkey’s monetary reserve and contributed to more budget deficits, as well as the flight of foreign and local investors to safer regions.

CSC Chairman Al-Ajlan called for a complete boycott of Turkey in terms of investment, tourism and trade, as a response to what he considered as an offense by Ankara to the Saudi leadership.

He reiterated recently his call to all Saudi companies not to deal with Turkish companies and products. In a statement on his Twitter account, Ajlan said: “I say it with certainty and clarity: No investment, no import, no tourism… We as citizens and businessmen will not have any dealings with everything that is Turkish.”

He added: “I call not to deal with even the Turkish companies operating in the Kingdom, and this is our least response against the continued Turkish hostility and insult to our leadership and our country.””

  19. Khashoggi’s fiancee sues Saudi Crown Prince over journalist’s murder
    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/khashoggi-fiancee-sues-saudi-crown-prince-mbs

“Hatice Cengiz, the fiancee of slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi, has filed a civil lawsuit against Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), as well as other officials, seeking to hold them liable for his brutal murder.

The suit, filed in a district court in Washington DC on Tuesday by Cengiz and Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN), alleges that MBS and his co-conspirators ordered the abduction, torture, murder, dismemberment and disappearance of Khashoggi for the purpose of silencing and preventing him from continuing his efforts in the United States of being a voice for democratisation in the Middle East.

“The ruthless torture and murder of Mr. Khashoggi shocked the conscience of people throughout the world,” said the complaint.

“The objective of the murder was clear – to halt Mr. Khashoggi’s advocacy in the United States, principally as the Executive Director of Plaintiff DAWN, for democratic reform in the Arab world.

DAWN was launched in Washington last month to carry on Khashoggi’s legacy of raising awareness of human rights violations committed by Washington’s allies in the region.

“The murder was carried out pursuant to a directive of Defendant Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia,” the suit said. “Defendants saw Mr. Khashoggi’s actions in the United States as an existential threat to their pecuniary and other interests and, accordingly, conspired to commit the heinous acts that are the subject of this suit.”

The lawsuit seeks discovery from American law enforcement, intelligence, and administration officials to prove that Khashoggi’s killing was ordered from the top of the Saudi leadership hierarchy.

“I am hopeful that we can achieve truth and justice for Jamal through this lawsuit,” said Cengiz.

“I place my trust in the American civil justice system to give voice to what happened and hold those who did this accountable for their actions.”

A royal family insider turned critic – Khashoggi was killed and dismembered at Saudi Arabia’s consulate in Istanbul nearly two years ago, in a case that significantly tarnished the reputation of the kingdom’s de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The remains of Khashoggi, a former columnist for Middle East Eye and the Washington Post, have never been found…”

  20. Ilhan Omar says Trump’s attacks are posing a threat to her life
    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/ilhan-omar-trump-attack-threat-life

“Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has said US President Donald Trump’s repeated attacks and insults are posing a threat to her life, after Trump went on the offensive this weekend saying the lawmaker “truly hates our country”.

“Every time the president has invoked my name, it has incited violence against me,” Congresswoman Omar told MSNBC.

“This president is creating an environment where he is threatening to lock up his political opponents, where people no longer understand that in a democracy we are supposed to debate policy differences but we are not supposed to harm one another,” she said.

“And when you have a leader, the president of the United States, not understand that, then there is danger not only to our way of life but to our democracy and the ways it’s supposed to function.”

Fellow Minnesota Congresswoman Betty McCollum came to the defence of Omar on Tuesday, blasting Trump over his remarks.

“The president’s vicious & disgusting attacks on my colleague @Ilhan & other women elected officials are unacceptable,” McCollum tweeted.

“@Ilhan and I look forward to continuing to work together for Minnesotans in Congress when Pres. Trump is long gone from the White House.

In recent months, Trump has launched a number of attacks against Omar, attempting to cast the American legislator as a foreigner. Last month, Trump said Omar was telling Americans how to run “our country”.

In June, he told his supporters that the congresswoman is a “hate-filled, America-bashing socialist”.

“She would like to make the government of our country just like the country from where she came – Somalia. No government, no safety, no police, no nothing, just anarchy.”

    Death threats
Omar, a refugee who fled from Somalia to the US at the age of 12, became one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress in 2018, alongside Palestinian American Rashida Tlaib.

Since taking the oath of office early in 2019, Omar has become a favourite target for right-wing politicians. The congresswoman’s supporters argue that Republicans often take her comments out of context to stir manufactured outrage and use racist and Islamophobic undertones to portray her as an outsider trying to undermine America.

The congresswoman has received hundreds of death threats since being elected to office, previously writing that a Trump tweet led to an increase in those threats on her life.

Last March, a New York man suggested that someone should “put a bullet in her skull”, and was sentenced to a year in prison.

The threats became so severe that in 2019 Speaker Nancy Pelosi asked House officials to review security measures intended to protect Omar.”

French police opened an attempted murder investigation after arresting the two suspects.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening at the Champ de Mars Park, near the Eiffel Tower. The two victims, Kenza and Amel, were walking with two female cousins and four children when they entered into a disagreement with the suspects.

The argument quickly escalated and the attackers allegedly shouted racist and Islamophobic slurs before stabbing the victims.

The youngest victim, Amel, was stabbed “multiple times” and underwent surgery, but is currently in stable condition. The second victim, Kenza, sustained six stabs that ruptured her lungs. She is still receiving treatment, but her condition is not critical, according to French media.

  26. President Erdo?an slams Macron over ‘French Islam’
    https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/president-erdogan-slams-macron-over-french-islam-159314

“Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has reiterated his criticisms against French President Emmanuel Macron for using what he called an anti-Islam rhetoric that includes the creation of “French Islam” to cover up his failures in running his country.

“Those who are disturbed by the rise of Islam are attacking our religion through the crises they cause. Anti-Islam and anti-Muslim rhetoric is the most useful tool for Western politicians to cover up their failures. ‘French Islam,’ ‘European Islam,’ and ‘Austrian Islam’ are recent examples to this,” Erdo?an said in an online message he conveyed at a meeting held by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Oct. 20.

“The real objective of these initiatives led by French President Macron is to settle accounts with Islam and Muslims,” he said, suggesting that these aim at bringing about a coward, unassertive and shy profile for Muslims.

“We should not allow the imperialists to divide us as Shiite-Sunni, white-black, Turkish, Kurdish, Arab or Pharisee. We will love each other only for God, not because of our ethnic identity, tribe or race,” Erdo?an said, stating that the division among the Muslim communities in the world encourages the West and imperialist powers in their attacks against Islam.

The president also drew attention to the existence of terror organizations exploiting Islam, like Boko Haram, El Shebab, ISIL and FETÖ, stressing the need for the proper education of Islam to prevent such deviant waves.”

“Turkish forces on Tuesday neutralized four YPG/PKK terrorists, including one senior member of the terror group, in northern Syria, according to Turkey’s National Defense Ministry.

“Four PKK/YPG terrorists, one of whom was in the Qandil Staff, were neutralized by our heroic commandos in the [Operation] Olive Branch region,” the ministry said on Twitter, referring to the terror group’s headquarters in the Mt. Qandil region of northern Iraq.

Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralize” to imply the terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured.

Since 2016, Turkey has launched a trio of successful anti-terror operations across its border in northern Syria to prevent the formation of a terror corridor and enable the peaceful settlement of residents: Euphrates Shield (2016), Olive Branch (2018), and Peace Spring (2019).

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and the EU – has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is the PKK’s Syrian offshoot.”

  28. France to ‘intensify’ actions against Islamist extremism after teacher beheaded
    https://www.france24.com/en/france/20201020-france-to-dissolve-pro-hamas-group-involved-with-french-teacher-killing

“French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Tuesday the dissolution of a pro-Hamas group active in France, accused of being “directly implicated” in the murder of teacher Samuel Paty. Speaking days after Paty was beheaded last Friday, he said actions against Islamist extremism will be “intensified”.

The decision to shut down the Cheikh Yassine Collective, which supports the Palestinian cause and is named after the Hamas founder, will be taken at a Wednesday’s cabinet meeting, Macron told an audience during a speech after a meeting with a unit for the fight against Islamism, in the north-eastern Paris suburb of Bobigny.

The French group was created by Abdelhakim Sefrioui, a radical Islamist activist who is now in police custody as part of the investigation into the attack. Sefrioui is the author of one of the videos in which the father of a girl in the school accused Paty of having insulted Islam and called him a “thug”.

Samuel Paty had shown his pupils cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad in a civics class on freedom of expression earlier this month.

Speaking four days after Paty’s beheading, which sparked police raids on people and institutions with alleged links to Islamist militants, Macron said that “actions will be stepped up” against Islamist extremism.

“This is not about making more statements,” Macron said during a visit to a Paris suburb. “Our fellow citizens expect actions. These actions will be stepped up.”

“We know what needs to be done,” the French leader told reporters.”

  29. Sweden: Sudanese national who murdered teen and raped woman sentenced to life
    https://rmx.news/article/article/sweden-sudanese-national-who-murdered-teen-and-raped-woman-sentenced-to-life

“Sweden’s Ångermanland District Court on Monday sentenced Abucbaker Mohamad Awad, a Sudanese national, to life in prison for the murder of 19-year-old Tommie Lindhn and rape of a young female under the threat of a knife.

On May 10, the 23-year-old Sudanese migrant stabbed Tommie Lindhn to death in his own apartment in Härnösand after Lindhn had made an attempt to stop Mohamad Awad from raping a girl who was also at the afterparty.

In a press release, the district court commented on the verdict, saying: “The murder has been particularly ruthless and has also meant severe suffering for a deceased person. The punishment will therefore be life imprisonment.”

“A person charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated rape, rape and aggravated unlawful threat is sentenced by the district court for murder, attempted aggravated assault, aggravated rape, rape and aggravated unlawful threat to life imprisonment,” the court added.

The court also ordered Mohamad Awad to pay a total of €39,000 in damages to five individuals involved in the case.

According to a report from the Swedish news outlet Expressen, Abubaker Mohamad Awad, originally from Sudan, first arrived in Sweden in 2005 with his parents. The 23-year-old Sudanese migrant had previously been convicted of several crimes, including sexual harassment, drug offenses, and shoplifting.

In September, details emerged in the case which revealed that prior to the murder, the perpetrator had accused Tommie Lindh and the female victim of being racists for having a Sweden Democrats hat inside of the apartment. During an interview with police, the female victim said that she had tried to explain to Mohamad Awad that neither Lindh or herself were in fact racists, but that it had only enraged him more, Expressen reported.

Shortly after, the Sudanese man force her into the toilet where he raped her for the first time. She then rushed to Lindh’s room where he was sleeping, and they contacted the police. Tragically, before the police arrived at the scene, Mohamad Awad stabbed Lindh to death in his own bathroom, before going on to rape the female victim for a second time.

Pictures taken of Mohamad Awad by police after he was arrested show him laughing, sticking out his tongue, and making hand gestures in front of the camera.

Not long after the murder had taken place, a right-wing group conducted peaceful demonstrations against the murder in Härnösand. Subsequently, Sweden’s left-wing press then smeaered the demonstrators as “Nazis”. Sweden’s state-run broadcaster SVT, who amplified this false narrative, then paid a visit to Lindh’s father’s home, where he was made to defend his deceased son against accusations of racism.”
