Reader’s Links for October 17, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. US Has to Pay Price for Crimes: IRGC General
    https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2020/10/17/2371025/us-has-to-pay-price-for-crimes-irgc-general

“Deputy commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Quds Force derided the US president’s comments about ensuring America’s security, saying criminal Trump must pay the price for all barbaric crimes, including the assassination of Lt. General Qassem Soleimani.
Addressing a cultural ceremony on Friday evening, Brigadier General Mohammad Hejazi said the US is on the decline in all fields, pointing to US presidential candidate Joe Biden’s admission that Donald Trump’s policies have weakened the US’ position.

The criminal US president claims that his cruel measures, such as the assassination of Lt. General Soleimani, have made the US safer, the commander added.

If the US has become safer, then why are the American forces shaking with fear in their bases and why is Washington begging for more time in its message for Iran, General Hejazi asked.

Criminal Trump wrongly believe that the US is safe after committing the atrocities, but he has to pay the price for all crimes, the Iranian commander warned.

In a meeting with Iraq’s prime minister in July, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei warned the United States that Iran will definitely reciprocate the assassination of Lt. General Soleimani.

The Leader underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran will never forget the American assassination of the top commander in Iraq and “it will definitely deal the reciprocal blow to Americans.”

On January 3, a US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport assassinated General Soleimani, former commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps. The attack — that also killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) anti-terror group, along with several others— came while General Soleimani was on an official visit to the Iraqi capital.”

  2. Saudi retail chains suspend Turkish product imports
    https://saudigazette.com.sa/article/599233/SAUDI-ARABIA/Saudi-retail-chains-suspend-Turkish-product-imports

“A famous Saudi retail chain has stopped importing Turkish products amid a popular campaign driven by Saudis citizens to boycott Turkey over its meddling policies in the region.

More retail chains have followed suit, suspending Turkish goods from supermarkets shelves.

Abdullah Al-Othaim Markets Co. announced on Friday that it was suspending the import of all Turkish products and their procurement from local suppliers.

Al-Othaim is seeking to dispose of its stocks of Turkish goods in all branches and warehouses, while placing no new orders for Turkish goods, the company said in a statement.

“This decision has come in solidarity with the popular boycott campaign and out of the company’s belief in its national duties,” the retail chain said in a statement on Twitter.

“Our leaders, government and security are a red line that cannot be crossed.”

The company, meanwhile, expressed greetings and respect to the Turkish people, absolving them of “shameful acts” of their government.

The retailer’s move shows solidarity with the public campaign for boycotting Turkey.

The move comes in line with the popular boycott campaign of Turkish goods by Saudis, in response to the Turkish government practices against Saudi Arabia.

Earlier this month, the head of the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce Ajlan Al-Ajlan called for boycotting “everything Turkish” including imports, investment, and tourism.

In the ensuing days, the Arabic hashtag “Boycott the Turkish products” has trended, prompting several suppliers of clothes to the Saudi market to relocate their operations to outside Turkey.”

  3. US drone strike kills two Al-Qaeda members in Syria
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20201017-us-drone-strike-kills-two-al-qaeda-members-in-syria/

“US forces have confirmed carrying out a drone strike on Thursday killing two senior Al-Qaeda members in the northwest of Syria, Fox News reported.

“US forces conducted a strike against Al-Qaeda in Syria in the vicinity of Idlib, Syria, on October 15,” Major Beth Riordan, a spokesperson for the US Central Command, disclosed in a statement. According to Riordan: “Al-Qaeda continues to present a threat to America and our allies.”

It’s the first drone strike by the US military against Al-Qaeda in Syria since mid-September of last year.

Fox News reported that the missile used to kill Al-Qaeda operatives does not carry a high explosive warhead, greatly reducing collateral damage and killing innocent civilians.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that a strike killed two Jihadists of Arab origin along with a child. They were targeted in a vehicle and their bodies were completely scorched.”

  4. Egypt’s Mufti Warns Against Islamophobia After Paris Attack
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/10/322905/egypts-mufti-warns-against-islamophobia-after-paris-attack/

“Egypt’s Mufti Shawki Allam today called the brutal attack in Paris on Friday an act of terrorism and urged French authorities not to blame Islam. The Egyptian mufti stressed that the shocking brutality of Friday’s event is totally rejected by Islam. The religious leader stated the attack was a terrorist act and a crime with no justification.

    Mufti condemns attack
Amid growing Islamophobia in France, Friday’s shocking decapitation of 47-year old history teacher Samuel Paty is raising already problematic tensions. In his remarks, Egypt’s mufti expressed concerns that the attack would lead to further repression against Francee’ss Muslim minority.. “It would be wise to deal with this issue as an individual crime in order not to spread hatred against Muslims,” Allam said.

Mufti Allam asked French Predident Emmanuel Macron and his government to not see the event as originating from the Muslim community, or Islam itself. The attack in Paris was a “criminal act by an extremist,” Allam said. He stated that Islam teaches “wisdom and good instruction” and does not allow “murder and bloodshed as is being done by extremists and terrorists.”

Allam’s remarks come one week after his response to Emannuel Macron’s speech about reforming Islam. “’Islam is a religion that is in crisis all over the world today,” the French president had said. In response, Allam expressed sadness seeing Islam conflated with terrorism. He urged for a better udnerstanding of the teachings of Islam which he stated provides “mercy and grace” to many.

Following Friday’s brutal attack in Paris, Emmannuel Macron framed the terrorist act as part of an “existential” battle against forces that “threaten French values and our way of life.” He visited the Paris suburb where the attack happened and stated that the 18-year old Chechzen who committed the gruesome act had attacked “the Republic and its values.”…”

  6. 107 terrorists ‘neutralized’ in past 30 days: Ministry
    https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/107-terrorists-neutralized-in-past-30-days-ministry-159217

“A total of 107 terrorists have been neutralized as part of Turkey’s domestic and cross-border counter-terrorism operations in the past 30 days, the National Defense Ministry said on Oct. 16.

Nadide ?ebnem Aktop, the ministry spokeswoman, said at a briefing that the Turkish Armed Forces continued its operations against terror groups including PKK, YPG – the Syrian branch of PKK – and ISIL, saying a total of 21 operations were held.

“The operations resulted in the neutralization of 107 terrorists,” Aktop said, adding 46 were eliminated within Turkey whereas the remaining 61 were neutralized outside of the country.

The military activities included two cross-border and five domestic large-scale operations, she said, and noted that dozens of shelters, storages, caves and gun positions used by terrorists were destroyed.

The spokeswoman welcomed the agreement between the Iraqi central administration and the Kurdish Regional Government signed on Oct. 9 – seeking the elimination of PKK in the Sinjar region of northern Iraq.

The Turkish army this year destroyed a total of 14 tunnels near the Syrian borderline and established 971 kilometers (603 miles) of modular concrete wall across the borderline with Syria and Iran.

The military spokeswomen also said Turkey was committed to ensuring peace and stability in northern Syria where terrorists were cleared of following Turkish military campaigns — namely the Euphrates Shield, Olive Branch, Peace Spring, and Spring Shield operations.

Commenting on the developments regarding Azerbaijan, the spokeswoman said the escalation was triggered by Armenia which targeted civilian settlements in violation of the recently made temporary humanitarian cease-fire.

“Armenia’s use of banned ammunition and weapons in its attacks targeting innocent civilians are clearly war crimes and crimes against humanity,” she said, noting that so far nearly 50 Azerbaijani civilians have been killed.

She also said Turkey’s Oruç Reis seismic research vessel was operating in the Eastern Mediterranean within the country’s continental shelf area, and the Turkish navy escorted all vessels operation in the Black Sea and Eastern Mediterranean.

The Turkish Armed Forces would never accept the isolation of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the region, the spokeswoman added.”

  8. Turkey neutralizes 6 YPG/PKK terrorists in N. Syria
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/turkey-neutralizes-6-ypg-pkk-terrorists-in-n-syria/2010047

“Turkish forces neutralized six YPG/PKK terrorists in northern Syria, Turkey’s Defense Ministry said on Saturday.

The terrorists were neutralized by Turkish commandos while attempting to infiltrate the Operation Euphrates Shield region, the ministry said in a statement.

Turkish authorities use the word “neutralized” to imply the terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured.

Euphrates Shield was the first of the three successful anti-terror operations that Turkey has launched across its border in northern Syria since 2016 to prevent the formation of a terror corridor and enable the peaceful settlement of residents.

The other two operations are Olive Branch (2018) and Peace Spring (2019).

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and the EU – has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is the PKK’s Syrian offshoot.”

  9. Man denied German citizenship for refusing to shake woman’s hand
    https://www.dw.com/en/man-denied-german-citizenship-for-refusing-to-shake-womans-hand/a-55311947

“The man aced the German naturalization test, but refused to shake hands with the female official handing over his citizenship. Despite claims he will not shake hands with men either, his citizenship has been rejected.

A German court ruled on Friday that a Muslim man who refused to shake the hand of a woman should not receive German citizenship.

The 40-year-old Lebanese doctor, who came to Germany in 2002, said he refuses to shake women’s hands for religious reasons.

The Administrative Court of Baden-Württemberg (VGH) ruled that someone who rejects a handshake due to a “fundamentalist conception of culture and values” because they see women as “a danger of sexual temptation” was thereby rejecting “integration into German living conditions.”

    Promise to his wife
The doctor studied medicine in Germany and now works as a senior physician in a clinic. He applied for citizenship through naturalization in 2012, for which he signed a declaration of loyalty to the German constitution and against extremism. He passed the naturalization test with the best possible score.

Nevertheless, he was not granted citizenship because he refused to shake hands with the responsible official when the naturalization certificate was handed over in 2015. The woman therefore withheld the certificate and rejected the application.

He argued that he had promised his wife not to shake hands with another woman.

His petition against the ruling was unsuccessful before the Stuttgart Administrative Court and he appealed the to the VGH. Following its decision Saturday, the court said that the man can appeal to the Federal Administrative Court due to the fundamental significance of the case…”

  10. Tehran Declares Arms Embargo Lifted, Iran Free to Procure, Export Arms as Sees Fit (sputniknews, Oct 17, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/202010171080804073-tehran-announces-termination-of-all-restrictions-on-transfer-of-arms-to-and-from-iran/

“In 2015, Iran signed the JCPOA with China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany and the European Union, requiring Iran to scale back its nuclear program and severely downgrade its uranium reserves in exchange for sanctions relief, including lifting the arms embargo five years after the deal’s adoption.

“As of today, all restrictions on the transfer of arms, related activities and financial services to and from The Islamic Republic of Iran, and all prohibitions regarding the entry or transit through territories of the United Nations Member States previously imposed on a number of Iranian citizens and military officials, are all automatically terminated,” the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated.

?No special action was necessary from Iran’s side as the embargo lifts automatically if no extension or additional measures are taken by the Security Council, the statement read.

Tehran said this gives authorities free reign to undertake new defense policy based solely on its own decisions.

“Therefore, as of today, the Islamic Republic of Iran may procure any necessary arms and equipment from any source without any legal restrictions and solely based on its defensive needs, and may also export defensive armaments based on its own policies,” the statement read…”

American Crisis review: Andrew Cuomo on Covid, Trump … and a job with Joe Biden?
    by Lloyd Green – October 17, 2020

    Excerpts:

Cuomo said the state would provide the test data once it was available, not before. Meadows told him the federal government was ready to release hospital funding to states, but “strongly implied” that if the test results did not soon arrive, New York would not “receive any funding”. To Cuomo, that reeked of extortion.

In the end, the “test results came in, and they were negative”. Spiking the football, Cuomo adds: “In June the FDA itself would conclude that hydroxychloroquine was of no beneficial effect and was in fact dangerous.”

There is buzz of a prospective appointment in a Biden-Harris administration, as attorney general. Through that lens, American Crisis is best viewed as a job application.
