Reader’s Links for September 29, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  3. China Says Killing Americans over Taiwan is ‘Morally Justified’

    by Gordon G. Chang
    September 29, 2020 at 5:00 am

China, violating previous understandings, has been sending large numbers of fighter aircraft and bombers into Taiwan’s airspace this month.

At the same time, China’s ruling Communist Party is issuing threats. The flights of military aircraft are not warnings, the Communist Party’s Global Times newspaper stated in an editorial on September 18. “They are rehearsals on taking over Taiwan. What is needed is a political reason that can turn them into real battle to smash Taiwan independence forces.”

Fortunately, bad weather is coming. The November-through-January period is not conducive to conducting invasions across the Taiwan Strait. Nonetheless, China is clearly gearing itself for war.

Beijing calls the island “sacred” Chinese territory, but Taiwan has never been part of communist China, the “People’s Republic.” In fact, Taiwan has never been formally recognized as part of any Chinese state. People on the island, in survey after survey, overwhelming consider themselves “Taiwanese,” not “Chinese.”

Beijing nevertheless insists it has sovereignty over Taiwan, which formally calls itself the Republic of China. The People’s Republic has been sending planes near Taiwan’s territory to make a point.

Last month, the message was directed at Washington. While U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar visited Taiwan’s capital, Taipei, China ordered aircraft to fly near the island.

  4. Iran Eyes Enhanced Trade Ties with EU in Defiance of US Sanctions
    https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2020/09/29/2359475/iran-eyes-enhanced-trade-ties-with-eu-in-defiance-of-us-sanctions

“Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for the promotion of economic ties with European countries, stressing that bilateral trade should not be affected by the illegal and unilateral US sanctions.

Rouhani on Tuesday received the credentials of several new foreign ambassadors to Tehran, including European envoys from Denmark, Norway, Germany, Portugal, Spain, and the Czech Republic.

In the meeting with Danish Ambassador Jesper Vahr, the president hailed the Scandinavian country’s support for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Stressing the need for the promotion of economic and technological cooperation between Tehran and Copenhagen, Rouhani praised the inauguration of a joint medical and pharmaceutical center in Iran amid the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

In another meeting with Norway’s new ambassador, Rouhani highlighted the ample opportunities for economic and scientific cooperation between Tehran and Oslo.

Praising Norway’s support for the 2015 nuclear deal, the Iranian president said its membership in the UN Security Council provides a good opportunity to strengthen global cooperation for peace and stability in the world.

Hans Odo Motzel, Germany’s new ambassador to Tehran also met with Rouhani, who urged that the economic interaction between Tehran and Berlin should grow irrespective of the US’ illegal sanctions.

Hailing Germany’s stances against the US’ unilateralism, the Iranian chief executive said the three European parties to the JCPOA have acted “logically” in dealing with the US’ illegal and incorrect measures and attempts to re-impose the cruel sanctions against the Iranian nation and in supporting the UNSC Resolution 2231.

In another meeting with the new Portuguese ambassador Carlos Antonio Rico Da Costa Nos, Rouhani expressed Iran’s willingness for cooperation with Portugal in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

He also praised Portugal for supporting international law and multilateral agreements, particularly the JCPOA, and opposing unilateralism.

Another foreign diplomat wgo submitted his credentials to the Iranian president was the new ambassador of Spain, Luis Felipe Fernandez de la Pena.

In the meeting, Rouhani said many world countries are struggling with two viruses, namely the coronavirus and the American unilateralism, calling for unity and collective action against the two viruses.

In another meeting, new ambassador of the Czech Republic in Tehran Josef Rychtar submitted his credentials to the president.

Expressing satisfaction with Prague’s support for the Iran nuclear deal and opposition to Washington’s unilateralism, Rouhani stressed the need for the enhancement of bilateral ties without being influenced by the American sanctions.”

  5. Italy Repatriates Female ISIS Fighter and Her 4 Children
    https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2536086/italy-repatriates-female-isis-fighter-and-her-4-children

“Italian Carabinieri (gendarmerie) arrested a female foreign fighter on Tuesday after returning her and her four young children to Italy from a displaced person´s camp in Kurdish-controlled territory.

The woman, Alice Brignoli, traveled in 2015 with her Moroccan-born husband, Mohamed Koraichi, and their three young children by car from their home north of Milan to ISIS-controlled territory. Another child was born in Syria.

The children, now 11, 8, 6, and 4, were in foster care pending a decision by an Italian juvenile court. Authorities say Brignoli will face trial on terror-related charges.

Brignoli contributed to the radicalization of the children, turning them against the West and `´thereby embracing the cause of global jihadism,´´ Italian Carabinieri said in a statement.

Authorities say the children have family members in Italy and that their experience with other children returning from ISIS territory — notably an 11-year-old Albanian boy Alvin Berisha who was brought back to Italy last November — has showed that indoctrinations can be reversed.

`´There was a minimal amount of indoctrination — but no military training — enough to make them understand and agree with the choices that the parents had made. But as we have experienced with Alvin, they are small children and they can easily turn back,´´ Carabinieri Lt. Col. Andrea Leo said, according to The Associated Press.

Brignoli came back to Italy willingly, “convinced it was the best choice after the conditions she had lived in over the last 5 years,´´ Leo said.

Authorities are hoping she will help them locate other Italian families they believe are still in former ISIS territory.

After Islamic State lost its territorial foothold, Brignoli and her children were captured by Kurdish forces and brought to a camp for displaced people in Al-Hol. Koraichi was also in the camp as a prisoner. Authorities said he died this month from an intestinal infection.

After the family’s arrival in Syria, Korachi had received training, participated in fighting and was prepared to carry out suicide attacks, authorities said. Koraichi, who also held Italian citizenship, helped others receive authorization to travel to ISIS territory, aiding in the recruitment and radicalization of at least two suspects who were arrested in April 2016 before they could leave Italy.”

  6. HRW: Cyprus Pushed back Lebanon Migrants, Ignored Claims
    https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2535811/hrw-cyprus-pushed-back-lebanon-migrants-ignored-claims

“Cypriot authorities pushed back 200 migrants and refugees arriving from Lebanon aboard boats earlier this month, ignoring their claims for asylum while in some instances using violence and coercive tactics, a human rights watchdog said on Tuesday.

Human Rights Watch accused Cypriot marine police officers of beating some migrants and making threats. The group said coast guard vessels attempted to swamp migrant boats by circling them at high speed and abandoned at least one boat at sea without food or fuel.

The watchdog said the accusations come from interviews with 15 Lebanese and Syrian nationals who tried to reach European Union member Cyprus after setting sail from Tripoli, Lebanon, aboard seven boats between Aug. 29 and Sept. 7.

According to Human Rights Watch, witnesses and victims on two boats returned to Lebanon said that Cyprus marine police handcuffed and beat individuals who resisted being returned.

The watchdog quoted one Lebanese national identified only by his first name who accused Cypriot police of using a cattle prod on him aboard a boat on Sept. 6 after he shouted at them to rescue a couple who jumped overboard.

The watchdog urged Cypriot judicial authorities to carry out an investigation into the allegations and prosecute anyone found to have committed any wrongdoing.

It said the European Commission should get Cyprus to respect the right of migrants to seek asylum and to not return people to a place where their safety and freedom may be at risk.

“People who risk their lives and their children’s lives by fleeing Lebanon by boat do so when they are truly desperate,” Human Right Watch official Bill Frelick said. “They have a right to have their claims for international protection considered.”

Cypriot officials did not immediately return calls for comment on the report.

The Cypriot government has said the ethnically split island nation is willing to offer safe haven to refugees, but has reached its limits in accepting “economic migrants.” Interior Minister Nicos Nouris said earlier this month that the Cypriot government is coordinating with Lebanese authorities to take back migrants arriving from that country in line with international law.”

  7. 21 Large-scale Floods in China; Explosion News Removed; Chinese Regime Tightens Economy Control

Heavy rainfall continues in parts of China, and on September 22 water levels on the Songhua River in Harbin rose to its warning level. New flood alerts were issued by the Ministry of Water Resources, which warned of coming floods on the Jinsha River in Yunnan, Yuanjiang River, Duliu River in Guizhou, Hongshui River and Youjiang River in Guangxi. It also noted that some small and medium sized rivers in China are expected to have a “super-alarm level of floods.”

Meanwhile, in Suzhou, a major city in Jiangsu Province of East China, a large explosion was caused by a suspected natural gas leak. A notice about the explosion was deleted from Chinese internet soon after it was published. A local gas company issued the statement in the early morning of September 23, and said the explosion was caused by a pipe leak. It also stated the incident was still under investigation.

  8. Turkey recruiting Syrians to guard troops and facilities in Azerbaijan
    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/azerbaijan-armenia-turkey-syrians-recruiting-guard-facilities

“Hundreds of Syrian rebels and civilians are being sent by Turkey to Azerbaijan to guard Turkish troops and strategic assets, with suspicions that they may soon find themselves in the current Nagorno-Karabakh clashes, Middle East Eye has learnt.

A source based in Turkey with direct knowledge said that private contractors have been hiring Syrians for work in Azerbaijan since last month. All of the sources contacted by MEE spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the subject.

“They have gathered individuals, some civilians and former fighters, to train them as security guards with a monthly payment of $600. The first group who completed its training has been already dispatched,” the source said. A Syrian activist in Idlib province confirmed that, saying the first batch contained 300 fighters and two more groups were ready to be deployed.

Rebels are mainly exiting through the Kilis border crossing, where Turkey has established a military base in the Aleppo countryside. From there, the fighters enter Turkish territory, where they sign contracts with private security companies.

According to the Turkey-based source, Ankara can absolve itself from legal repercussions by employing Syrians via private contractors, as the government can only deploy troops with parliamentary authorisation.

“I don’t think they will be deployed to the front because there are civilians among them who didn’t get combat training. They only got the training for security guard. They have been sent to Azerbaijan well before the latest tensions,” the source said.

However, sources in Syria said rebels were signing up with the full expectation to fight.

Heavy fighting broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenian forces in Nagorno-Karabakh, a disputed mountainous area, on Sunday and clashes are ongoing. Scores have been killed on both sides…”

    https://tribune.com.pk/story/2266223/pm-calls-for-one-year-extension-in-g20-debt-relief

“Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Tuesday that the Covid-19 pandemic was inflicting unparalleled human suffering and controlling the virus was critical to addressing both the health and the economic emergencies.

Addressing a high-level summit on the ‘Financing for Development in the Era of Covid-19 and Beyond’ on the sidelines of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Imran presented different suggestions such as debt service suspension initiatives and making the vaccine for virus available to all.

The premier called for extending the G-20’s debt service suspension initiative for at least another year, saying that the request for forbearance under this initiative should not affect the country’s credit rating, since this is due to force majeure, and not mismanagement.

Secondly, Imran said, the multilateral development banks should also participate in the debt suspension initiative, and thirdly, other short-term measures which could cover both official and private creditors, including debt swaps for health, climate and SDGs; debt buy-backs; re-profiling debt; and regional resilience funds, should be considered…”

  14. Pakistan calls for protection of rights group in India
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/asia-pacific/pakistan-calls-for-protection-of-rights-group-in-india/1989816

“Pakistan on Tuesday urged the UN and rights groups to provide “immediate” security to the employees of Amnesty International India.

The chairman of the Kashmir Committee at Pakistan’s National Assembly, Shehryar Afridi linked the “continuing harassment” of Amnesty International India to its work on “India’s systematic genocide of Dalits, Christians and Muslims and Kashmiri Muslims.”

“It was an alarming sign that the Indian government was running an incessant witch-hunt campaign against the human rights organizations over unfounded and motivated allegations,” Afridi told reporters here.

Earlier, Amnesty International announced it would halt its operations in India, alleging that authorities had launched a “witch-hunt” against them.

The rights group added that its bank accounts were frozen by the Indian government.

“I fear that the officials of the Amnesty and other human rights groups may be targeted by Hindutva gangsters. The world needs to immediately provide security to them,” said Afridi, adding that Amnesty International and other rights groups have accused police of complicity in the Delhi riots in which at least 50 people were killed, most of them Muslims.

“[Amnesty] reports have uncovered Indian forces atrocities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir [IIOJ&K],” he added.

Kashmir, a Muslim-majority Himalayan region, is held by India and Pakistan in parts but claimed by both in full. A small sliver of the region is also controlled by China.

Since they were partitioned in 1947, New Delhi and Islamabad have fought three wars — in 1948, 1965 and 1971 — two of them over Kashmir.

Some Kashmiri groups have been fighting against the Indian rule for independence, or for unification with Pakistan.

According to several human rights organizations, thousands have been killed and tortured in the conflict that flared up in 1989.”

  15. Jobless migrants cost Germany over €6 billion a year
    https://rmx.news/article/article/jobless-migrants-cost-germany-over-6-billion-a-year

“Unemployed refugees and their family members cost the German state over €6 billion ($7 billion) annually, according to data obtained from the German Ministry of Labor

The data emerged from the Ministry of Labor in response to an information request from Harald Weyel, the Bundestag representative of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, and made available to Junge Freiheit.

Weyel originally asked the federal government what the average monthly costs for the accommodation, care and support of an asylum seeker are. According to the Ministry of Labor, however, this cannot be answered using the data from the regular asylum seeker statistics alone. More precise information could only be given here in relation to the basic social security statistics for job seekers.

In May 2020, for example, there were around 397,000 beneficiary groups (mostly families) “with at least one employable beneficiary with a residence status in the context of refugee migration”, according to the Ministry of Labor’s response. “The average monthly payment entitlement of these beneficiary groups was €1,389 and includes the entitlements for all members of these benefit communities.”

Unemployed migrants cost around €550 million a month
Accordingly, the social costs for unemployed or low-income refugees as well as their family or household members amounted to more than €551 million in May alone. Extrapolated across the year, that would be around €6.6 billion.

For Weyel, the figures are further proof that the asylum wave of 2015 and its financial consequences are far from over.

“The federal government tries to disguise the costs of its ‘welcome policy’ in various statistics and budget items. Here, we have very specific figures for what a certain group costs the German taxpayer every month,” he told Junge Freiheit.

Weyel explained that more than €six billion are an enormous sum that the “normal wage earner” can hardly imagine.

“That’s why I like to convert such numbers into single family houses so that it becomes more understandable. If you put the average cost of your own home at around €350,000, we’re talking about almost 19,000 single-family homes every year, and only for support benefits for unemployed refugees and their families. This is madness!”

Weyel said it was incomprehensible for him that the federal government — which recently agreed to accept more migrants from Greece’s Moria Camp even after five Afghans were arrested for setting their own camp on fire — is bringing more and more migrants to Germany instead of reducing their number through consistent deportations and repatriations.

“Horst Seehofer and Angela Merkel may bask in their self-declared humanity, but it is the German taxpayers who have to pay for it,” Wevel said.

Wevel is not the only one raising concerns, with even members of Merkel’s party also decrying the state’s response to the migrant crisis. This year, German Interior Minister for the state of Saaraland Klaus Bouillon (CDU) said that Germans are growing less tolerant of new arrivals due the record number it receives every year.

“There is great discontent among the population because everyone who arrives here immediately has many or even more rights along with rights to benefits and medical care than someone who has worked here for their entire life,” said Bouillon.

Germany has also paid enormous costs for training, employing and integrating refugees. In 2018, the German government spent a record €23 billion on migrants, including rent subsidies, jobless payments, language lessons, and other benefits. That figure does not account for what individual states spent either, with Hamburg’s government releasing data showing it spent €5.35 billion on asylum seekers between 2015 and the end of 2019.

As Remix News previously reported, the issue of crime, terrorism, and the enormous financial and social costs Merkel’s decision to allow over one million migrants into the country has had a profound affect on Germany in the last five years.”

  16. Let’s stop apologizing for being French, the main enemy is Islamism, says former French PM Valls
    https://rmx.news/article/article/let-s-stop-apologizing-for-being-french-the-main-enemy-is-islamism-says-former-french-pm-valls

“Former French Socialist Prime Minister Manuel Valls urges people to stop apologizing for being French, pointing out that the state and society have to identify the main enemy, which is Islamism, he said in an interview for the Sunday edition of Le Parisien.

“It’s the whole of French society that jihadists consider a priority target, especially those that embody the struggle against political Islam. It’s intolerable and requires resistance,” said Valls, adding that “we must identify Islamism as an enemy and a great challenge of the beginning of the century.”

While serving as prime minister, Valis faced a number of attacks by jihadists, which have only escalated in France over the past five years, including the second terrorist attack against the offices of Charlie Hebdo magazine last week.

“Society has disintegrated, we got used to violence or virulent anti-Semitism on social networks. I call for a change of mindset. The enemy must be identified: it is Islamism, Salafism, the Muslim Brotherhood, this political Islam, which is the new fascism,” Valls emphasized.

According to him, this requires “the remobilization of the Republican and secular part of the political spectrum.”

But it was Valls, as prime minister, who rejected an opposition MP’s proposal to outlaw Salafism. Valls said at the time that fighting “perverted ideologies” was the job of French Muslims, and now, a few years later, he sees the situation he had contributed to differently.

“We must stop apologizing for being French and Republicans,” the former prime minister continued. This is not the first time that the socialist Valls has appeared in the media since the end of his political career and roared strongly against the left-wing cultural revolution and Islamism. From the progressive left, he has been labeled as a “fascist” for his stance.

Valls believes that President Emmanuel Macron has changed regarding the subject and that he is now “far from the liberal libertarian discourse he once followed.”

“We are at war with Islamist terrorism and we must win this war,” Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on Sunday on his way to the synagogue in Boulogne Billancourt on Yom Kippur in Paris. But such claims of war against radical Islam have been claimed by French officials for many years. According to him, 32 jihadist attacks were thwarted in France in the last three years.

Famed French philosopher and essayist Éric Zemmour stated last week on French television program CNews that immigration is at the core of the terrorist attacks and even amounts to population displacement.

“Immigration changes the makeup of a people. It is a crime against the European peoples, it will end in bloodshed,” Zemmour said. “

  17. Czech ombudsman on Muslim migrants: ‘We do not want to have such Czechs’
    https://rmx.news/article/article/czech-ombudsman-on-muslim-migrants-we-do-not-want-to-have-such-czechs

“In a Facebook post, Czech Ombudsman Stanislav K?e?ek commented on the matter of Muslim immigrants, who, according to him, are heavily involved in violence against women in France.

“I don’t think we want to have such Czechs,” he wrote, according to Czech news outlet Seznam Zprávy.

K?e?ek was commenting on an article written by Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) member Ivan David entitled “Men in France attack women for inappropriate clothing”, which was published on the New Republic website. David reported on the case of a 22-year-old student attacked by three men and brutally punched in the face for wearing a short skirt in the French city of Strasbourg.

However, according to David, it is not the French who are insulted by short skirts, but immigrants, specifically Muslims, who are behind the violence against women.

“An enlightened person knows that it was the ‘new French’, whose chastity was offended by short skirts. Someone has done a lot of work not to use the word Muslim at any cost,” writes David about the case.

Ombudsman Stanislad K?e?ek then supported his thoughts on Facebook, describing immigrants as the so-called “new” Frenchmen. He also added that they “terrorize the whole of Europe.”

“Was it really the French? Or just the new French, who currently terrorize Europe? Why does the news keeps quiet about what kind of French they were. We probably don’t want to have such new Czechs,” K?e?ek wrote on Facebook.

France has the largest Muslim population in Europe and one that is rapidly growing, with some experts predicting that the ethnic French will become the minority in their country in the next 40 years.

However, K?e?ek’s attitude angered some. According to Monika Šim?nková, the Deputy Public Defender of Rights, his statement crossed the line. The first vice-president of the left-wing Green Party, Anna Gümplová, then wrote that K?e?ek spreads nationalist nonsense.

It is not the first time the Czech Ombudsman faces criticism for politically incorrect statements. In the past, for example, K?e?ek caused controversy when commenting on the Roma issue. He said that until the Roma start to take care of themselves and their lives, their situation will not improve.

“Talking about discrimination is just an excuse and an attempt to disguise the true state of affairs,” he added, explaining that employees do not hesitate to give a job to the Roma out of discrimination, but out of an experience.”
