Reader’s Links for September 17, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  3. BREITBART – Ann Coulter: Simple Ideas to Ensure a Trump Victory!

MEMO TO HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP

    1) Extend Daylight Savings Time.

COVID, the shutdown, riots, looting, wildfires — we’re depressed enough. Do one small favor for the nation in 2020 by giving us another hour of sunlight. The next president can punish us again. (But why would we ever want to lose an hour of daylight in the afternoon? Why? Why? Why?)

During World War II, the long-suffering Britons left their clocks one hour ahead at the end of summer, then added an extra hour ahead when spring came along again. You’ve compared the Wuhan flu to war. Steal this great wartime idea from Britain!

    2) Try to Go Seven Weeks Without Being a Fanboy to the Liberal Media.

Ordinary, middle-class people would never have made the mistake of talking to Bob Woodward. Only a massively insecure social climber would say: “OMG! OMG! It’s Bob Woodward!!!”

Honey, guess who I’m talking to? A little reporter by the name of … BOB WOODWARD!

Woodward’s job is to get people to tell him what they don’t want to tell him. It sounds like he didn’t even have to break a sweat with you.

TRUMP: How about this letter from Kim Jong Un? Pretty cool, huh? You see the way he says “your excellency.” You know who he’s talking about, right? That’s me! Oh and by the way, I printed up a laminated copy for you.

WOODWARD: Really? I can keep this? I’m allowed to take it with me? Thank you, kind sir, thank you!

Working-class people are busting their butts to keep you in office, while you go off and blather a lot of nonsense to Woodward to feed your ego months before the election.

    3) Round Up Antifa Criminals, Jail and Prosecute Them.

As badass as your “LAW & ORDER” tweets have been, they don’t seem to have done the job. You can’t keep warning voters about widespread lawlessness if Biden is elected president when there’s already widespread lawlessness and you’re the president. Right now. That’s you. (And congratulations on that again, your excellency.)

    4) Open the Country, Close the Border.

Remember how there was going to be a two-week shutdown to “flatten the curve”? Guess what? We’ve flattened it!

It’s been almost six months of everyone staying home, socially distancing and wearing masks. COVID isn’t lurking out there like a back-alley rapist ready to pounce.

In early May, about a third of all COVID deaths in the nation were in New York. Is it possible that Gov. Andrew Cuomo has already killed off everyone who was ever going to die of it? Throughout April there were more than 500 deaths a day in New York City alone. In the last seven days, a total of 51 people died of COVID in the entire state.

The six-month nationwide shutdown has largely cleared COVID from the body politic. Now the main danger is if we start importing other countries’ body politics.

    5) Denounce the Pedo Film That’s All the Rage with Our Elites.

The exact same people who been freaking out about Confederate statues have suddenly became oh-so-bored sophisticates about the Netflix pedophilia movie “Cuties.”

Movie shows a little girl writhing on the floor in soaking wet panties, trying to seduce her relatives, watching porn, discussing oral sex, dancing sexually for strangers as the camera zooms in on an 11-year-old’s derriere …

Liberals: These uptight conservatives are freaking out about a film. Yawn.

Hey, there’s a statue to Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee that’s been standing in a public park for the past century.

Liberals: BURN IT DOWN! DECAPITATE IT! GET THIS MONSTROSITY OUT OF MY SIGHT! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Unfortunately, the left’s studied complacency about a pedo movie seems to be petering out. One tweet from you could get them going again.

    6) Fire Jared and Ivanka.

You won by 80,000 votes across three states, mostly cast by non-college-educated Americans who’ve been betrayed by both parties for 40 years. They didn’t want tax cuts — they don’t have jobs. They wanted manufacturing back, safe neighborhoods, and (like your neighbors on Fifth Avenue and in Palm Beach) schools that aren’t overwhelmed.

Thanks to the political acumen of your whiz-kid son-in-law, you gave them tax cuts, “criminal justice reform” (i.e. you released criminals) and a moved embassy. These are people who voted Obama, Obama, Trump. You gave them another Bush.

Maybe Jared is right about the MAGA base having “no place else to go,” and it was a shrewd political move to betray them. But it wouldn’t take a lot of former-Trumpers to stay home for you to lose.

To convince your voters that, in a second term, you really will get around to the promises you made in 2016 — about immigration, bringing manufacturing home and ending pointless wars — you have to fire your amnesty-supporting, pro-criminal, Israel-obsessed son-in-law.

We want to see moving trucks.

  4. HELL IN PARADISE ISIS take over stunning islands where Daniel Craig and Bono holiday burning down luxury hotels and imposing Sharia Law
    https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/12693374/isis-paradise-islands-daniel-craig-bono-sharia-law/

“ISIS militants have taken over paradise islands in the Indian Ocean, burning down hotels and imposing Sharia Law.

Luxury islands off the coast of Mozambique, where A-list celebrities spend their holidays, have been overrun by insurgents linked to Islamic State.

Luxury hotels, wildlife, and homes have been torched and “reduced to ashes” in the militant attacks.

The ISIS insurgents have ordered residents to abandon the islands of Vamizi and Mecungo – where celebrities like Daniel Craig, Bono and Prince Albert of Monaco have holidayed in luxury.

Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and political leader Nelson Mandela have also been known to have enjoyed holidays on the picturesque island.

Burnt-out beach huts and torched safari cars were pictured on Vamizi Island.

One resident of Mecungo island told AFP that the insurgents had arrived by boat at night and rounded everyone up.

The local said: “They told us to run if we want to live. Everyone left the island.”

Mozambique and its islands have been closed to tourists since pandemic travel restrictions were imposed.

The ISIS-linked militants also captured and occupied the port town of Mocimboa de Praia on the Mozambican mainland – telling locals that it would become their new capital, run under Islamic law.

The Cabo Delgado provence has also been ransacked and raided by the jihadists.

One man who had fled to Mecungo Island from Mocimboa da Praia said: “They arrived at night in small fishing boats. They removed people from the houses and then torched them.

“They didn’t hurt anyone, they just gave orders to leave the islands.”

Government troops are failing to keep pace with the militants’ new firepower.

Western energy companies, who have invested in gas projects off the coast of Mozambique, have been forced to build new facilities to avoid the jihadis’ path.

More than 1,500 people have been killed and 250,000 displaced during the insurgency, which erupted three years ago close to the border with Tanzania.

In the past year, the militants have taken credit for the brutal insurgency, naming themselves the Islamic State Central Africa Province.

Jasmine Opperman, an analyst with the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project, said: “The insurgents now have a strong maritime capability, which is rapidly evolving.

“They are sealing off the region both by land and sea, and exerting their dominance.”

Analysts have said that ISIS have always wanted to establish holds in war-torn conflict zones in Africa.”

  5. Riyadh May Have Enough Uranium Ore to Produce Nuclear Fuel: Report
    https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2020/09/17/2350722/riyadh-may-have-enough-uranium-ore-to-produce-nuclear-fuel-report

“Saudi Arabia likely has enough mineable uranium ore reserves to pave the way for the domestic production of nuclear fuel.

This is according to confidential documents seen by the British daily the Guardian.

Details of the stocks are contained in reports prepared for the kingdom by Chinese geologists, who have been scrambling to help Riyadh map its uranium reserves at breakneck speed as part of their nuclear energy cooperation agreement.

The disclosure will intensify concerns about Riyadh’s interest in an atomic weapons program.

The survey report describes how geologists worked all year round despite blistering summer heat to identify reserves that could produce over 90,000 tons of uranium from three major deposits in the center and northwest of the country.

These are “inferred deposits”, estimated from initial surveys. Further exploration would be needed to confirm uranium reserves and calculate the cost of extraction.

Saudi Arabia has been open about its ambition to extract uranium domestically, with a senior official describing it in 2017 as a step towards “self-sufficiency” in producing nuclear fuel for an energy program.

The 2019 survey suggests that the reserves could potentially provide Saudi Arabia with both fuel for the reactors it wants to build, and surplus for export.

The Guardian could not independently verify the authenticity of the report, compiled by the Beijing Research Institute of Uranium Geology (BRIUG) and China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), working with the Saudi Geological Survey.

“If some of these became actually viable deposits – and there’s no way of knowing whether that’s possible or not – the actual amounts are probably going to be well in excess of what a power plant, or a few power plants would need,” said Prof Kip Jeffrey, head of Camborne school of mines at the University of Exeter.

If Saudi Arabia is able to mine sufficient uranium domestically, rather than relying on foreign providers, it could give the kingdom a boost toward creating its own weapons program, experts say.

“If you are considering nuclear weapons development, the more indigenous your nuclear program is, the better. In some cases, foreign suppliers of uranium will require peaceful-use commitments from end users, so if your uranium is indigenous, you don’t have to be concerned about that constraint,” said Mark Hibbs, senior fellow in the nuclear policy program at the Carnegie Endowment for Peace.

Another expert, Bruce Riedel at the Brookings Institution, said the information showed that the Saudis were “aggressively pursuing the prerequisites” for either an energy or weapons program and that securing a domestic source of uranium would boost their effort.

The kingdom’s nuclear ambitions have become a source of heightened concern in the US Congress and among allies, particularly since Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said in 2018 that if Iran “develops a nuclear bomb, we will follow suit as soon as possible”.

The greatest international concern is over the kingdom’s lack of transparency. Under a 2005 agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Saudi Arabia avoided inspections through a small quantities protocol (SQP), which waives IAEA monitoring up to the point where fissile fuel is introduced into a reactor. The nuclear watchdog has been trying to convince the Saudi monarchy to now accept a full monitoring program, but the Saudis have so far fended off that request.

“We are in conversation with them. They are interested in developing nuclear energy, for peaceful purposes of course,” IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said on Monday when asked about verification in Saudi Arabia.

The richest seam of reserves appear in maps to be at or very close to a site chosen for the planned new city of Neom, centerpiece of crown prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 project to wean the economy off oil.

China began prospecting work in 2017 across nine different areas identified as having prospective uranium deposits, and finished at the end of last year.

Beijing’s interests are diplomatic and commercial. Helping Saudi Arabia with its nuclear program strengthens ties with a key US ally, and China is always looking for fresh supplies of ore and buyers for its nuclear plants, said Hibbs.

The project report boasted of the extreme speed of the project, achieved in part by working through summer temperatures of over 50C (122F), leaving several on the team with heatstroke.

“According to international common practice, it takes five to eight years to discover and estimate inferred resources of a uranium-thorium deposit; this project only lasted two years,” the report said, referring to another radioactive element often found alongside uranium.

The exploration covered nine blocks over 30,000 square kilometers; there was often no road access to sites or network coverage.

“[Chinese] specialists stayed in the field for eight straight months with Saudi colleagues, working through weekends, holidays, and even spring festival break [the biggest holiday in the Chinese calendar].”

A string of other setbacks are detailed in the report. Near the border with Yemen, where a Saudi-led aggression is raging, armed men regularly disrupted drilling, and locals declared certain areas off limits to the exploration teams.

Flooding stranded vehicles and made drilling a challenge. In another area, soft terrain with complex strata – rock layers – meant that drilling was hard, holes often collapsed and work fell behind schedule.

The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), internationally respected for their work in challenging terrain, supervised some of the exploration, bolstering the credibility of the findings.

Saudi authorities, CNNC, BRIUG and GTK did not respond to requests for comment.

The next step will likely be more intensive investigation in three areas identified as high priority, to confirm reserve levels, and the economics of extracting them. All sit inside an ancient geological formation called the Saudi Arabian shield, with rich reserves that match similar “shields” in Canada and Australia.

Analysts at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) said there was no sign in satellite images that mining had yet begun in the areas identified as the most promising by the Chinese and Saudi scientists, but said that was unsurprising only a few months after the completion of the prospecting project.

“It’s obviously important to monitor those sites, as that would give us a clear indication that Saudi Arabia was moving forward with uranium mining,” said Ian Stewart, head of the CNS Washington office.

Recent US press reports, citing US officials, said the Saudis have built a mill to process uranium ore into more refined “yellowcake”, the next step in the long cycle required to make fuel for reactors or for nuclear weapons, but Stewart said there was so far no evidence in the satellite imagery of such a facility.

“Given that the candidate sites are quite far from the location of the alleged uranium mill, we are forced to question reports that a mill exists at all,” he said. “We consider it unlikely that a mill would be built without a domestic source of ore. And we have to assume that the only sources of ore are the ones identified in these documents. If governments have evidence of a facility, they need to provide more details for us to conclude the reports are accurate.””

  6. US Blacklists Hezbollah-Linked Companies, Individual
    https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2513836/us-blacklists-hezbollah-linked-companies-individual

“The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions on a Hezbollah official and two Lebanon-based companies it accused of being linked to the Iran-backed group.

The new wave of sanctions comes as Lebanon is passing through its worst economic and financial crisis in decades. The country is also facing a political deadlock amid delays in the formation of a new cabinet because of a portfolio dispute.

The US Treasury Department said in a statement that it blacklisted Arch Consulting and Meamar Construction, two Lebanon-based companies it said were leveraged by Hezbollah to conceal money transfers to the group’s own accounts, helping to enrich its leadership.

Also hit with sanctions was Sultan Khalifah As’ad, who the Treasury said is a senior Hezbollah Executive Council official.

“Through Hezbollah’s exploitation of the Lebanese economy and manipulation of corrupt Lebanese officials, companies associated with the terrorist organization are awarded government contracts,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in the statement.

“The United States remains committed to targeting Hezbollah and its supporters as they corruptly abuse Lebanese resources to enrich their leaders while the Lebanese people suffer from inadequate services,” he added.

The action freezes any US assets of those blacklisted and generally bars Americans from dealing with them. Those than engage in certain transactions with those designated are also at risk of being hit with secondary sanctions, the Treasury said.

Thursday’s move follows US action this month that blacklisted two former Lebanese cabinet ministers allied with Hezbollah — the ex-finance minister, Ali Hassan Khalil, currently an Amal movement lawmaker, and the former public works and transportation minister, Youssef Fenianos.”

“The European Parliament has urged European Union member states to impose an arms embargo on Saudi Arabia over the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and the Saudi-led coalition’s involvement in the Yemen war.

An EU arms export report adopted on Thursday called on all members of the 27-nation bloc to “follow the example of Germany, Finland and Denmark, which, after the killing of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi adopted restrictions on their arms exports to Saudi Arabia”.

The report notes that arms exported to Saudi Arabia, the UAE and other members of the Saudi-led coalition in the Yemen war had been used in the country “where 22 million people find themselves in need of humanitarian aid and protection”.

It also urges the remaining EU countries to impose sanctions to prevent further civilian suffering in the Yemen conflict, which has resulted in the deaths of more than 100,000 people…”

  12. Iraq: Female activist and family slaughtered in Baghdad
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20200917-iraq-female-activist-and-family-slaughtered-in-baghdad/

“A prominent Iraqi female activist and her parents were killed in their home in the capital, Baghdad, on Tuesday evening, Anadolu news agency reported.

The news site quoted Baghdad Police Captain Hatem Al-Jabri as saying: “Unidentified gunmen have stormed a house in Al-Mansour district, west of Baghdad, on Tuesday evening, and slaughtered the pharmacist Sheelan Dara, and her parents.”

Al-Jabri said the intruders stole valuable belongings from the house before they fled, pointing out that the relevant authorities had opened an investigation into the incident, which preliminary data indicates to have been “motivated by theft”.

However, an activist in the anti-government protests, Tariq Al-Husseini, told Anadolu that the attack aimed to “liquidate Sheelan” who had been active in the popular protests against the ruling political class.

Al-Husseini, whose name had been changed for security reasons, called on the Iraqi government to fulfil its pledge to prosecute those involved in the killing of protesters and activists and bring them to justice.

In August, unknown persons launched a series of assassination attempts against anti-government protesters. The most violent attacks occurred in Basra Governorate and resulted in the killing of three activists and two civilians.”

  13. 4 ex-directors of French Shia Muslim centre arrested
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20200917-4-ex-directors-of-french-shia-muslim-centre-arrested/

“Four ex-directors of a Shia Muslim centre in France have been arrested over concerns they continued to run the organisation despite it being disbanded by authorities in March last year, Agence France Presse (AFP) reports.

The four directors were taken into custody on Tuesday. Three have been remanded in custody, while one was freed over health concerns.

French prosecutors are reportedly investigating the four men for “participation in or maintenance of a dissolved association”, AFP quoted local sources as saying.

The centre was disbanded last year over allegations members were inciting armed jihadism and condoning the actions of regional players, such as Hezbollah, designated as terrorist organisations by the French government.

According to the report, members of the centre also propagated hate speech and anti-Semitism, as well as inciting violence.

The French court, which confirmed the centre’s closure after an appeal last June, said the activities of the organisation amounted to “propaganda intended to glorify the armed struggle and to provoke hatred and violence”, Le Monde reported.

“In the Zahra Centre, sermons are given which call for a fight against Zionism, against Israel and against Saudi Arabia and which, for some, legitimised armed jihad”, the French daily quoted court officials as saying.

According to the AFP report, the four continued preaching at the Zahra Centre’s site in northern France as well as on social media, despite last year’s order to cease and desist, leading to their arrests.

The Zahra Centre was founded in 2009 by Yahia Gouasmi, an Algerian-born Frenchman who also established an anti-Zionist political party in France in the same year. He is believed to have frequently spoken in support of Hezbollah, according to AFP.

The Zahra Centre was also subject to police scrutiny in October 2018, when local authorities raided the group’s headquarters over suspicions of links to terrorist organisations, Reuters reported.

At least 200 police officers, including elite troopers from Paris, took part in the pre-dawn raid on the Zahra Centre, discovering and seizing a cache of illegal weapons. Three people were remanded in custody over the discovery and the organisation’s French financial assets were frozen.”

    • wikipedia – Yahia Gouasmi

    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/09/319057/spain-vows-to-facilitate-improve-integration-of-moroccan-community/

“Jose Manuel Franco Pardo, Spanish government delegate in the autonomous community of Madrid, vowed to help facilitate and improve the integration of the Moroccan community in Spain.

The official announced his determination during a meeting with Morocco’s Ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich, on Wednesday.

The two parties examined the means to assist the Moroccan community residing in Spain’s Madrid region amid the COVID-19 crisis.

The Spanish and Moroccan representatives also met to study the mechanism aimed at improving the lives of the Moroccan diaspora in the region.

Benyaich said that despite the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 health crisis, the partnership between Morocco and Spain has been further strengthened, “which perfectly illustrates the excellent relations between the two countries.”

The Spanish official expressed his “full availability” to help Moroccan citizens better integrate into Spanish society within the framework of the responsibilities of his administration.

Spain’s government sub-delegate, Elena Bernando Llorente, also participated in the meeting.

Statistics from the Spanish Ministry of Integration reported in July that Moroccans remain the majority of non-EU workers who are registered for social security in Spain in 2020.

By the end of June, 254,000 Moroccans in Spain were registered for social security.”

“The coast guard of Morocco’s Royal Navy arrested 186 would-be irregular migrants on board makeshift boats in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic on the night of September 15-16.

A military source told Maghreb Arab Press (MAP) that the immigrants were mostly sub-Saharans.

Royal Navy members transported the migrants “safe and sound” to various ports across Morocco after they received the necessary care.

Other coast guard personnel intercepted a sailboat, two jet skis, and a speedboat in the Mediterranean used in drug trafficking.

The operation led authorities to arrest drug traffickers, including three Spanish citizens and two Moroccans.

During the operation, the coast guard seized one tonne of cannabis resin.

The Royal Navy handed the drugs to the Royal Gendarmerie for legal proceedings.

Security units, including Royal Gendarmerie and Royal Navy members, regularly collaborate to combat drug and human trafficking.

The country’s security services personnel out similar operations throughout the year. One of the Royal Navy’s recent operations, in July, enabled its personnel to abort another drug trafficking operation in the Mediterranean.

During the operation, security services arrested one suspect and seized a drug cargo consisting of 22 plastic cans and 14 bags loaded with cannabis.

In 2019, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) issued a report showing that its personnel seized 179,657 tons of cannabis and its derivatives.

The number represents an increase of 127 tonnes compared to 2018.”

  16. Turkey key to Europe’s security, says Albanian PM
    https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkey-key-to-europes-security-says-albanian-pm-158331

“Turkey is a key country that can safeguard Europe’s security, the Albanian prime minister said on Sept. 16, as he urged for dialogue between Ankara and Athens.

Speaking at a conference organized by the British magazine The Economist in the Greek capital, Edi Rama said his country has a strategic partnership with both Greece and Turkey.

“Turkey-Greece relations have the potential to be beneficial for Europe. Turkey is key to Europe’s security, just like Greece is of crucial importance to Europe’s borders,” he said.

The premier called for talks between the two governments amid high tensions since Turkey resumed energy exploration in the Eastern Mediterranean last month.

“Nothing is easy but constructive relations between Greece and Turkey can add value to entire Europe.”

He referred to the North Macedonia-Greece deal over a decades-long name dispute, saying the “historic development” carries a lesson for everyone. Last year, both the countries set aside their differences and agreed to rename Macedonia as the “Republic of North Macedonia.”

Rama said Western Balkans, which besides Albania includes Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Kosovo, have no other alternative than being a part of the EU.

On Greece-Albania relations, the Albanian leader said he is in favor of resolving maritime border disputes through international courts or a “friendly assistance of a third party.” “It can be fair and objective,” he said.

Rama also met his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis during the visit.”

  17. President Erdo?an vows ‘Turkish model’ democracy
    https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkey-fights-for-justice-as-region-demands-it-says-erdogan-158350

“Turkey has displayed its model of democracy, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an said on Sept. 17, identifying it as the “Turkish model.”

“Even if Europe and the U.S. are completely destroyed in democracy and economy, we will continue to develop our nation. We are determined to show the same struggle for our friends, whether based on historical ties or new relationships with ourselves. This model is of Turkey’s. You cannot find such a sincere ideal of democracy, rights and justice [elsewhere],” Erdo?an told a group of ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) provincial heads.

The AKP has worked to overcome the “lack of democracy and development that emerged due to negligence and betrayal” in the past, he said, noting that his party has developed the strength and abilities to reach out to people across the country.

“As a country that develops and gets stronger, we have raised the bar much higher. In line with this vision, which aims to become one of the 10 largest countries in the world, we have made even greater strides,” Erdo?an stated.

Erdo?an responded to the domestic criticisms on Turkey’s foreign policy regarding Syria, Libya, France and the eastern Mediterranean.

“Some in our country are persistently trying to pull us into their shallow waters. We will not fall into this trap,” Erdo?an said. “They say, ‘Why is Turkey involved in Syria, Libya, the eastern Mediterranean, Africa, the Balkans, the Caucasus and Central Asia?”

“If Turkey does not see the games there, will everything return to normal in Iraq? If there is no Turkey in Libya, will the putschists leave the power to the legitimate administration? If Turkey relinquishes all its rights, will the EU try to keep its promises by abandoning the long-standing double standards?” Erdo?an said.

Referring to French President Emmanuel Macron, who has “tried to block” Turkey’s foreign policy goals, he said, “If Turkey steps back, will France end its political drift caused by its leader and turn to a responsible policy?”

“If all of these questions can be answered with a realistic and sincere ‘yes,’ it would become necessary for us to review the policy we follow,” said Erdo?an.”

  20. Switzerland: Muslim kills Portuguese man in front of kebab shop to ‘avenge the Prophet’
    https://rmx.news/article/article/switzerland-muslim-migrant-kills-portuguese-man-in-front-of-kebab-shop-to-avenge-the-prophet

“The 29-year-old Turkish-Swiss man accused of murdering a random victim in front of a kebab shop Saturday evening in Morges has confessed to his crime, saying it was justified for “revenge against the Swiss state” and “the Prophet”, revealed Swiss news outlet RTS.

Arrested on Sunday in possession of the murder weapon and a copy of the Quran, he justified his crime by “revenge against the Swiss State” by attacking a man representing its population. He also said it was “to avenge the Prophet”, a source close to the investigation told RTS on Wednesday.

The Portuguese victim, who died at the scene, was a resident in the area and worked for a transport company. He was present with his girlfriend when the attacker murdered him.

Omer A. was considered a danger to the internal and external security of Switzerland since 2017 by the Confederation’s Intelligence Service (SRC) and was also a defendant in an ongoing criminal trial.

According to a law enforcement source, he had an “unstable, potentially violent psychological profile”, and was believed to have “connections with sympathizers of the jihadist cause”.

Due to the threat the man posed, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Confederation (MPC) to ask that he no longer reside in the hotel but that he be placed in a more suitable psychiatric institution.

However, while it is true that no internment, in the formal sense of the term, was requested, the MPC confirmed to the RTS that on Aug. 19 he had sent an e-mail to the Vaud authorities to indicate that the accommodation in a hotel room was not adequate, and a place in a hostel or psychiatric establishment had to be quickly found.

The authorities replied that there was no place available immediately, despite the deterioration of the mental health of the young radicalized and his lack of cooperation in monitoring socio-educational measures. The result is known: left to himself and wandering the streets of Morges, he struck at random on Saturday night.

    Act of terrorism
According to a federal security source, this was an act of a terrorist nature. The young man, psychologically unbalanced, breaking with his Turkish-Swiss family established in western Lausanne, had been actively monitored since 2017 as a radicalized individual.

He was imprisoned in April 2019 after trying to set fire to a gas station in his neighborhood. He was released from prison in July this year, RTS reported. In addition, he escaped the social and psychological net set up by the Public Ministry of the Confederation.

    Why was he released?
As he was already on the radar of the Intelligence Services for suspicion of radicalization since 2017, it was the Federal Prosecutor’s Office that took up the case and managed his preventive detention.

For what reasons was he released this summer, despite a violent and unbalanced profile, and under what conditions?

A press release from the MPC released on Wednesday afternoon explains that alternative measures included a nighttime curfew, an obligation to register, and a ban on carrying weapons. Until the homicide, the MPC affirms “not to have been informed of any violation of the imposed substitution measures which would have justified a new detention”.

In the immediate circle, the family refuses to speak out. Ties with the suspect have been severed for over a year. The family, however, regularly collaborated with the police in an attempt to stem the radicalization of Omer.”
