Reader’s Links for September 10, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  3. Suspect Attempts to Blow Himself Up as Morocco Dismantles Terror Cell
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/09/317978/suspect-attempts-to-blow-himself-up-as-morocco-dismantles-terror-cell/

“Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ) released in depth details about the security operation that led to the arrest of five terror suspects with links to ISIS on Thursday morning.

BCIJ personnel carried out security missions in several cities, including Temara, Skhirat near Rabat, and Tangier and Tifelt.

The statement said that one of the suspects in Tiflet showed “fierce resistance” during the dismantling operation, seriously injuring one of the BCIJ staff with a sharp tool in the forearm.

In Temara, one of the defendants tried to blow himself with a large gas cylinder, also showing “fierce resistance.”

Security services fired four warning bullets and sound bombs, and used smoke bombs to blur the suspect’s vision and arrest him.

Search operations at the terror suspects’ safe houses enabled Morocco’s BCIJ personnel to seize three explosive belts containing tubes for loading explosive objects, 15 bottles containing chemicals, two electric detonators, electronic equipment, chemical powders, and electric cables.

BCIJ also seized three balaclavas, two pairs of binoculars, electronic welding equipment, a camera, two tear gas canisters, a large batch of knives of different sizes, small gas cylinders, and two pressure cookers loaded with nails and cables.

Searches also enabled security seizes to seize a cardboard model bearing the ISIS sign, three explosive vests in preparation, plastic pipes used in the manufacture of explosive belts, and three kilograms of ammonium nitrate.

BCIJ staff transferred all seized materials to scientific experts for further investigation.

The leader of the ISIS cell has a criminal record of violent crime.

BCIJ said that the suspect, who they had classified as dangerous, planned to carry out terror operations targeting sensitive sites along with his accomplices.

The terror suspects planned to use explosive devices and belts to destabilize Morocco’s security and stability.

Investigation also showed that the suspects reached advanced stages of planning and preparation of terror actions.

The suspects also “carried out reconnaisance missions to identiy targets which they planned to attack with suicide bombing by using explosive vests.”

The BCIJ concluded that the suspects’ objective was to “cause heavy damage.”

All of the suspects are in custody for further investigation to determine possible links of the terror network.

The operation is part of Morocco’s approach seeking to combat terror threats in the region and beyond.

The operation coincides with an increase in terror threats targeting Morocco due to the upsurge in terror activities in the Sahel-Saharan region and in areas in North Africa, the BCIJ said.”

  6. Turkey rejects Arab League decisions targeting country: Ministry
    https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkey-rejects-arab-league-decisions-targeting-country-ministry-158158

“The Turkish Foreign Ministry in a statement on Sept. 10 said Turkey “completely rejected” decisions taken by the Arab League targeting the country.

Turkey in the statement “completely rejected” all decisions taken at a Ministerial Council meeting on Sept. 9 in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

During the meeting, foreign ministers of Egypt and the UAE accused Turkey of conducting activities in the region that “pose threats to the security of Arab countries”.

Turkey in response said the country, as is known, gives great importance to the territorial integrity and political unity of the Arab countries as well as to regional stability, contrary to the “baseless accusations” – aiming to cover destructive agenda and activities – of those administrations behind these decisions, it added.

Turkey will resolutely continue its constructive attitude to ensure regional peace and stability despite all efforts of those administrations which support terrorists – that try to disintegrate Syria and threaten Iraq’s sovereignty – cause Yemen to disarray, take sides with putschists in Libya, risk Sudan’s stability for their own interests, support regimes, militia leaders, separatist groups, and terrorist organizations that cause humanitarian tragedy, the statement stressed.

The peoples of the Arab countries observe that these administrations ignore the Palestinian cause, prevent the Arab League from taking a decision on attempts to sabotage the efforts for a two-state solution in Palestine and common
Arab stance, the ministry also said.

The same meeting also dropped a draft resolution condemning a controversial agreement between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel to normalize relations.

“We once again invite the Arab League to undertake a positive role in ensuring stability and security in the region, instead of acting under the direction of some of its members which have a hostile attitude towards our country,” it added.”

  7. Merkel-Macron accommodate 400 minors from Lesbos

“German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron agreed on Thursday to accommodate 400 unaccompanied minors from the Moria migrant camp on Lesbo, Greece, following a fire that destroyed it, said news agency DPA.

The exact division of the minors between the countries has not yet been announced, but DPA said talks are still ongoing to involve other European countries.

Macron had previously expressed the need to be supportive of Greece.

There are currently about 12,000 people at the Moria camp, which was designed to hold 2,800.

In Germany, 16 conservative MPs wrote on Thursday morning to German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, pleading for the reception of 5,000 migrants by Europe, or, in the absence of a deal, by Germany alone.”

  8. Court finds Swiss immigration authorities cannot order deportation for criminal offences
    https://www.thelocal.ch/20200910/court-finds-swiss-immigration-authorities-cannot-order-deportation-for-criminal-offences

“Court finds Swiss immigration authorities cannot order deportation for criminal offences

A Swiss court has held that immigration officials are not able to order a person to be deported under Switzerland’s deportation initiative.

Switzerland’s Federal Court held on Wednesday that only courts, rather than administration authorities, are allowed to order a deportation against a foreigner who has committed criminal offences.

In Switzerland, the courts have the power to order the deportation of foreigners who commit certain criminal offences after a SVP-backed referendum on the issue in 2010, Watson reports.

A similar referendum in 2016 which would have had the effect of allowing foreigners to be deported for committing minor criminal offences was rejected at the ballot box.

    The case

The case concerned a Croatian man who had been found guilty of a range of criminal offences.

The cantonal court in Vaud sentenced the man to 42 months imprisonment but did not order his deportation.

The offences the man was convicted of are of the type of offences for which an explosion from the country is mandatory.

According to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, it appears that the court forgot to order deportation when handing down the sentence.

The public prosecutor in the case also forgot to apply for it, the NZZ reports.

After cantonal authorities ordered that the man be deported, the Federal Court intervened on appeal.

The Federal Court found that under the deportation initiative only the judiciary had the power to order a deportation, rather than cantonal authorities.

The Federal Court said that when a deportation order is not made by the courts, the immigration authorities “must accept it in every case” even if it was simply forgotten.

While the directive calls for ‘mandatory’ deportation, this is often avoided on hardship grounds.

Across Switzerland, deportation orders are avoided due to hardship in 42 percent of cases – with the rate higher in French-speaking Switzerland.”

  9. US: University of Rhode Island to remove WWII murals because they have too many White people
    https://rmx.news/article/article/us-university-of-rhode-island-to-remove-wwii-murals-because-they-have-too-many-white-people

“Due to students’ complaints about a lack of diversity in several murals depicting events during World War II, the University of Rhode Island has controversially decided to remove the paintings produced by Arthur Sherman, a veteran of World War II and a former student at the university.

According to some students, the 70-year-old murals are not compatible with the university’s values of inclusivity. The school’s Vice President of Student Affairs confirmed their removal, adding that some students said they did not “feel comfortable sitting in that space.”

The purpose of the murals, which portray various scenes such as veterans coming back to the United States and a University of Rhode Island class reunion, is to honor respect to those who lost their lives in World War II. The scenes include servicemen returning after the war, people on a beach, a university commencement ceremony, and students wearing their letter sweaters inside a vehicle, according to local news affiliate ABC 6.

“I have received complaints about the murals that portray a very homogeneous population predominately the persons painted and depicted on the wall are predominantly white and that does not represent who our institution is today,” said Kathy Collins, the University of Rhode Island’s Vice President of Student Affairs.

The murals feature mostly White people likely due to the fact that the majority of the combatants involved in World War II from the United States were White. New England states close to Rhode Island, such as New Hampshire and Maine, are still 95 percent White even today, while in the 1950s, these states were even more homogeneous…”

  10. EU immigration policy is a failure, says Austrian MEP Vilimsky
    https://rmx.news/article/article/eu-immigration-policy-is-a-failure-says-austrian-mep-vilimsky

“The catastrophic immigration statistics clearly show that the European Union’s policy of handling illegal immigration is a complete failure, Austrian MEP Harald Vilimsky, caucus leader of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) delegation to the European Parliament, told Hungarian daily Magyar Hírlap.

“The EU needs to focus on stopping migration at the external borders, or even better, on preventing migrants from leaving their region of origin,” Vilimsky told Magyar Hírlap. He added that short of preventing their entry into the European Union in the first place, it is very difficult to repatriate migrants.

He also said that early indications of the EU’s planned migration package does not focus on the EU stopping immigrants at the external borders, but on how to distribute them among member states.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Vilimsky said the balance of the return of rejected illegal migrants is “catastrophic”. He cited data from Eurostat, the EU’s statistical agency, according to which in 2019, 650,000 people from outside the EU were staying in the EU illegally. Of these 514,000 were expelled but only 162,000 actually left the territory of the EU.

Vilimsky welcomed the fact that the European Court of Auditors had taken note of the situation and has announced that it would examine the financial implications of the inefficiency of the expulsion system. According to the EU Court of auditors, there are a total 59 EU programs for the repatriation of rejected migrants with a combined budget of around €641 million.

The Austrian MEP reminded that the European Commission had drawn up a series of action plans to boost return, but apparently these did not work very well, as in 2019 the number of successful returns reached a ten-year low. He said the high ratio of rejected immigrants remaining in the EU, besides being a failure of the policy, also constitutes an invitation to those who abuse the institution of asylum.

According to Vilimsky, instead of the current policy the EU and its member states, the EU should rather conclude more repatriation agreements and enforce the existing ones. This requires a broader policy approach to include trade agreements, development and other aid in the negotiations — all based on the premise of agreeing to repatriation.

Vilimsky said it is high time to end the fatal migration reception policy established in 2015 that focuses on the distribution of migrants within the EU, further undermining the sovereignty of nation states. He also called for an effective border protection and a repatriation system.”

  11. Soros-type NGOs are blackmailing Europe on migration, says Hungary’s foreign minister
    https://rmx.news/article/article/soros-type-ngos-are-blackmailing-europe-on-migration-hungary-s-foreign-minister

“Hungary and Malta have decided to form a new alliance based on the same appraisal of the problems facing the EU and their agreement on the migration issue, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said at a press conference after a discussion with his Maltese counterpart in Valletta on Tuesday.

At the same time, Szijjártó lambasted “Soros-type NGOs”. According to him, such organizations are constantly blackmailing Europeans and form dangerous alliances with human trafficking networks. He stressed that it is time to put an end to such practices.

“We agree that migration should be stopped rather than managed, especially in light of the coronavirus pandemic which has brought about new dangers in Malta, too,” Szijjártó said.

Migration was once perceived as a risk in terms of security and cultural clashes, but now it is also a “tremendous“ health risk, he stated. In July of this year, Malta reported that 70 percent of migrants landing on its shores tested positive for coronavirus.

Szijjártó added that he and the Maltese foreign minister agreed that it is essential to try to help with the development in Africa in order to improve living standards there. If that goal can be accomplished, it could serve as way to persuade people in Africa to stay at home.

“African countries need their young people, and Europe must make clear that entry to Europe can only be made legally,” the minister said.

Szijjártó mentioned, among other things, the role of a billionaire financier George Soros, stating that “it is time to talk plainly about the role of Soros’s NGOs in the Mediterranean”.

According to Szijjártó, these organizations are blackmailing Europeans regularly and trump up alliances with human trafficking networks. He insisted that these NGOs commit crimes by assisting migrants because “illegal migration is itself a crime“.

“The time has come for Europe to put an end to blackmail by NGOs,” he said.

Both ministers also agreed on the idea that spending on development and investments by the EU should be tied to the willingness and ability of African countries to stop the outflow of migrants.

Szijjártó also noted the fact that two and a half years ago, the states of the Visegrad Group had given €35 million to strengthen the Libyan coast guard and to buy boats for this purpose but to this day, Brussels had not bought any yet. The European Commission is now being asked to involve Malta in the purchase of two or three boats, he concluded.”
