Reader’s Links for August 11, 2020

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. ‘Holy warrior’ selfies: Pakistan teen feted for killing US blasphemy suspect
    https://tribune.com.pk/story/2258878/holy-warrior-selfies-pakistan-teen-feted-for-killing-us-blasphemy-suspect

“On July 29, a 15-year-old Faisal Khan pulled out a pistol and fired multiple shots into 57-year-old Tahir Naseem, inside a courtroom in Peshawar at a bail hearing.

Naseem, a US citizen, died on the spot, onlookers spattered with his blood. He was accused of committing blasphemy, a capital crime in Pakistan.

His killing grabbed global headlines, put a fresh spotlight on Pakistan’s blasphemy laws and drew criticism from abroad, even as many in the country praised the shooter. The United States and human rights groups decried the killing and urged changes to Pakistan’s blasphemy statutes, among the harshest in the world.

Closer to home, Khan is a hero.

He beamed for selfies with lawyers and police days after he was brought to court following his arrest. Thousands hailed him in the streets as a “holy warrior.”

Khan is charged with murder, which also carries a death sentence. But while lawyers line up to defend him, the attorney for Naseem has gone into hiding…”

“Turkey has said it will continue to stand with Azerbaijan in its ongoing dispute with Armenia, calling the latter to cease disruptive and destabilizing policies in the south Caucasus.

“Armenia attacked our brother Azerbaijan on July 12. We, as the Republic of Turkey, are saying the same thing we said on that day: We are on the side of Azerbaijan with all our resources,” said Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavu?o?lu at a joint press conference with visiting Azeri Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on Aug. 11…”

“Yet another woman has been murdered in Turkey when she succumbed to severe injuries after being set on fire by a man who she reportedly lived with in the Black Sea province of Ordu’s Fatsa district.

The man, Soner Durgun, 22, poured fuel on Merve Ye?ilta?, 31, and set her alight after they reportedly had an argument on Aug. 10. The two were living together, according to local media reports.

Durgun later set himself ablaze too and is now in critical condition in a hospital.

The two were taken to hospital after their neighbors notified the fire to the authorities.

Ye?ilta?’s murder comes after 235 women were killed by men in Turkey this year.
Some 235 women were murdered this year so far, according to An?t Sayaç, an online epitaph of all women murdered by men in the country.

  4. Turkey arrests 40 suspects over FETO links
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/turkey-arrests-40-suspects-over-feto-links/1938461

“Turkish forces arrested at least 40 people for their suspected links to Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the group behind the 2016 defeated coup, security sources said on Tuesday.

The suspects were found to be in touch with their terror affiliates via fixed-line and pay phones.

Istanbul-based anti-terror operations were launched simultaneously in 12 provinces, and so far 34 suspects have been rounded up. Efforts to capture six other suspects are ongoing.

The anti-terror police squad arrested six suspects in operations launched in the capital Ankara. The search for four others is ongoing.

FETO and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the July 15, 2016 defeated coup, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.”

  5. BLM protesters met with jeers by armed crowd of counter protesters in Nevada city

MINDEN, Nev. (AP) — Several dozen Black Lives Matter demonstrators at a weekend protest in rural Nevada were greeted by a far larger group of counter-demonstrators, including some bearing military-style weapons and tactical gear, but a sheriff who had made controversial remarks earlier about the racial injustice movement reported no arrests or serious incidents.

The clash of rallies Saturday came days after Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley attracted national attention for telling the local library not to bother calling 911 for help after board members publicly considered a statement opposing “all forms of racism, hatred, inequality and injustice” and the line “We support #Black Lives Matter.”

The library abandoned plans to issue the diversity statement and the sheriff backed off, saying deputies would continue to respond to all 911 calls.

Plans to organize a demonstration against racial injustice that spread on social media spawned competing campaigns supporting Coverley and inviting supporters to back sheriff’s deputies.
