Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. So I put on my secular sharia face diaper (love that one) yesterday morning and walked into the store. The mass of lines on the floor made me dizzy. Or was it my CO2 count spiking under the diaper? All I wanted was a can of beans.

“Can I help you, sir?” came the voice from behind. It was smooth like soft butter. It was a pretty store manager.
“Yes, yes,” I said, trying to find my bearings. “I’m looking for a can of beans, but the lines on your floor have me confused about where I can walk. And this mask business I find awkward. It makes my glasses fog up.”

“I’m so sorry, sir,” said buttergirl. “Let me help.”

She then whipped out a roll of painter’s tape and began taping more lines on the floor. She made arrows and parallel lines. She made on ramps and off ramps. She made other lines in differently-coloured tapes. A few other shoppers stopped to watch, their laser meters beeping when one waddled too close to the other. These laser distancing beepers were the big new deal, but were making people crazy. Studies showed that the constant electronic noise increased anxiety in the human animal. Justin Trudeau’s Dystopian government promised to pass legislation outlawing the “beep” of these social-distancing laser devices, because “…it’s the right thing to do…”. In my mind I thought they should replace it with the “baa-baa” sound of sheep. Imagine hearing that everywhere you went.

“There,” said the store manager, quite satisfied. “All fixed.” She straightened up from her crouch, hands on her hips.. I looked at the other shoppers, then at the tangled, utterly chaotic mess of haphazard lines and arrows on the floor. All I wanted was some friggin’ beans. I looked at the manager and was about to speak, when–.

“–Thank you so much!” exclaimed the woman standing six-feet, eight-point two inches to my right. She was about fifty years old. Dyed-blonde hair with her roots showing. Fat in all the right places. “That really, really helps,” she told the manager. Her beeper was beeping. It needed a recalibration.

The manager then took a piece of paper out of her back pocket. Unfolding it, she stood straighter, cleared her throat and began to read out loud in a stilted, rehearsed manner:

“On behalf of all Dystopians, our Dear Leader strives to maintain social distancing while retaining all the freedoms, and all the standards of living Dystopians expect and deserve. Yes, we CAN have our cake and eat it, too, so long as we respect one another in our diversity and inclusion, and follow the rules. Please do not hesitate to seek help should you require any clarification regarding floor lines, rules, or any other matters of concern. We ask only that you refrain from directing your questions to the store manager standing right in front of you, because they are quite busy under their Covid obligations. Rather, call our 1-800 number hotline set up for all Dystopians to satisfy any questions they may have. We promise you in advance that no one will answer this 1-800 number should you call it, but be assured that your every concern will ring loud and clear with the elected officials you chose to serve you. And also be aware that your Dystopian government, together with our most trusted communist Chinese partners, will not answer your calls based on minority prioritization. That’s right. We know by how our telephones ring which grievance group you belong to, and it is our solemn pledge that we will not respond in an order of priority based on how you identify. Thank you, and good night.”

The manager folded the paper back up, put it back in her pocket and walked away. It turned out the store was out of beans, anyhow due to supply-chain interruptions.

      • Second time out since February. Medical necessity.

I exposed my naked mouth and nostrils to the doctor. A Russian I’ve known for years. We were not socially distancing.

He touched my face. I looked in his eyes. I liked it.

Coming home, I went up the tiny, unventilated, nasty elevator and actually inhaled. [Thru my tyvek hazmat, of course.]

If I survive this loss of innocence one Wuhan incubation period, maybe it’ll be okay.

Netherlands admits to paying terrorists who killed 17-year-old Israeli

The killers of Rina Shnerb are members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a designated terrorist group in the EU.
By LAHAV HARKOV JULY 21, 2020 13:11Email Twitter Facebook fb-messenger
Rina Shnerb, 17, was killed by an improvised explosive device in the West Bank, August 23 2019
The Netherlands paid part of the salaries of two terrorists involved in killing 17-year-old Rina Shnerb last year, Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok and Development Minister Sigrid Kaag admitted to parliament on Tuesday.
The killers are members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a designated terrorist group in the EU, and employees of the Palestinian Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC), to which the Dutch representative in Ramallah pledged nearly $20 million in 2013-2021.

Their salaries were paid in part by Dutch funds covering UAWC overhead costs, though they were not directly involved in the land and water management program sponsored by the Netherlands. They also received accreditation, identifying themselves as “employees of a partner organization of the Dutch representation,” in Ramallah a letter from the ministers said.
The Netherlands is suspending its donations to UAWC indefinitely, pending an investigation.
“Because careful action is so important in this regard, I have decided to commission external research into any ties between the PFLP and UAWC,” the ministers wrote. “The Cabinet… wants to independently determine whether and how continuation of the contributions is appropriate.”
The ministers’ remarks came in response to a parliamentary question from three right-wing parties.
She also claimed that she was not previously aware of UAWC’s ties to terrorist groups, though the Dutch-Israel advocacy organization Center for Information and Documentation on Israel (CIDI) and UK Lawyers for Israel reached out to the government and lawmakers in the Hague in May 2019 to highlight those connections, based on research by the Israeli think tank NGO Monitor.
The terrorists working for UAWC killed 17-year-old Rina Shnerb on August 23, 2019, in a bombing attack at a spring near Dolev, injuring her father Rabbi Eitan Shnerb and her brother Dvir as well.
Samer Arbid was an accountant for UAWC at the time of his 2019 arrest. In October, he was indicted on 21 counts, as commander of the PFLP terror cell that prepared and detonated the bomb that killed Shnerb.
Abdul Razeq Farraj was UAWC’s Finance and Administration director and was indicted on four counts related to aiding in the bombing.
CIDI said in a statement that “the news that two PFLP terrorists were paid with Dutch tax money, and even carried a pass from the Dutch representative office in Ramallah, is shocking but… it comes as no surprise.
“It is a good step for ministers to admit this now, but concrete measures must be taken to prevent further Palestinian terrorism from being financed with Dutch tax money in the future,” CIDI added.
NGO Monitor expressed hope that the Dutch ministers’ statement “will be followed with serious sanctions as well as a demand for the return of Dutch funds, as well as the installing of safeguards to prevent future misuse of public monies.”
Other state donors to UAWC include Italy and Spain.

  4. Hakim Sillah death: Teen stabbed at knife awareness course
    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-53487143
A young offender stabbed another teenager to death at a community centre while on a knife awareness course, a court has heard.

The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named, knifed Hakim Sillah, 18, twice in the chest at the west London centre on 7 November last year, Isleworth Crown Court was told.

Prosecutors said there was “a cruel irony” that Mr Sillah was stabbed while attending a weapons awareness course.

    The teenager denies murdering him.

He also denies two counts of wounding with intent and one count of unlawful wounding.
Michelle Nelson QC, prosecuting, said all participants at Hillingdon Civic Centre had been risk assessed before the session, which was run by the Youth Offending Teams (YOTS), and “those classified as high risk were precluded from attending”.

“Both the young men must have been risk assessed, but the sad reality is that both attended that course carrying knives,” she said.

Mr Sillah was stabbed twice in the chest and had defensive injuries on his hands from trying to take control of the blade, Ms Nelson said.

Despite medical intervention, he died shortly after in hospital.

Pathologists found the proximity of the two chest wounds was “consistent with a rapid sequence of infliction” and indicated the use of “substantial force”, the court heard.
A “sheathed Rambo knife” was also found three days after the stabbing in an area of woodland close to the defendant’s home.

The defendant’s blood and DNA was found on the weapon and DNA from the victim was also present, jurors were told.

“That defendant does not dispute killing Hakim Sillah, nor could he,” Ms Nelson said.

“He says he did not intend to kill or to cause really serious harm and told the police in his caution interview that he had acted in lawful self-defence. [He] had intended to stab Hakim Sillah in the arm, but he moved.

“The prosecution say the defendant took a deliberate decision to stab the deceased to the chest twice, we say, lawful self-defence does not arise.”

    The trial continues.

    • At the end of the piece the interviewer asks Katalin Novak about Hungary wanting to keep blood lines “pure”, in a sneaky attempt to imply something akin to Nazism. Novak cleverly catches and refutes the ploy, clarifying, “…we don’t say pure…we say keep Hungary Hungarian…”

For an icon of western “journalism” to fail so miserably in its attempt to disparage this small country’s efforts at survival is shameful, and more indicative of Hungary’s success as a nation in a world of nations that are succumbing to globalist neo-Marxism.

  7. French Locals Make Deal with Drug Dealers To Let Them Operate In Exchange for Quiet (breitbart, Jul 22, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/07/22/french-locals-make-deal-with-drug-dealers-to-let-them-operate-in-exchange-for-quiet/

“French locals in the no-go Paris suburbs have managed to come to an agreement with local drug dealers to allow them to operate in the area if the dealers keep the streets quiet at night.

The residents of the La cité Charles-Schmidt apartment complex in Saint-Ouen, located in the no-go suburbs of Seine-Saint-Denis, came to an agreement after the area had seen years of drug trafficking and now the drug dealers themselves enforce a noise curfew.

“We do not play the role of the police, we do not want war,” one of the locals said and added, “We have no weapons, we cannot wage war on anyone! I myself spoke with them, they made posters saying ‘do not make any more noise from 10 pm and stop dealing in the lobby…’ The rest is the role of the State!”

“The idea is just to say: We live there, we don’t want any nuisance, do your business on your side and we take advantage of our building,” a resident named Jules told the newspaper Le Parisien.

Before the agreement, residents say that their apartment complex was often loud as people from nearby towns would come to buy drugs as late as 1 am in the morning and often leave rubbish in the hallways of the complex as well.

The unique compromise comes as residents of other areas nearby, including in Paris itself, have complained to the local government about the presence of drug dealers and pickpockets in their areas.

Last year, local residents of Paris’ 18th arrondissement, a heavily migrant-populated district of the city, complained that they felt abandoned by the local government as crime surged.

Karim Drif, a local to the area said he even shut down his business, a restaurant, due to ongoing bouts of violence.

Many areas in Paris and Seine-Saint-Denis have also been plagued by rioting in the last several months and Seine-Saint-Denis has also seen rising tensions between criminal gangs as well.

A report last month indicated that the commune of Epinay-sur-Seine, in particular, has become a hotbed for gang violence, including several recent shootings.”

  8. Turkey rejects Greece accusation of Mediterranean violation (abcnews, Jul 22, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/turkey-rejects-greece-accusation-east-med-violation-71914009

“Turkey on Wednesday rejected claims by Greece that its oil-and-gas research vessels were encroaching on Greek waters in the eastern Mediterranean and said it would continue to defend its legitimate rights and interests in the region.

A Foreign Ministry statement, however, also renewed a call by Ankara for dialogue to resolve the dispute between the two NATO allies.

Turkey announced plans Tuesday to dispatch search vessels into disputed waters in the Mediterranean, raising tensions between the neighbors and ignoring calls from European nations to avoid the action. Turkish authorities said the research vessel Oruc Reis and two support vessels would carry out operations through Aug. 2 in waters south of the Greek islands of Rhodes, Karpathos and Kastelorizo.

State-run television in Greece said the country’s armed forces had been placed on a state of readiness.

An overnight statement by the Greek foreign ministry called the Turkish notification “illegal,” while authorities there issued a counter-notification declaring the Turkish navy’s notice for seismic survey in the area as “invalid.”

NATO allies Greece and Turkey are at odds over drilling rights in the region, with the European Union and the United States increasingly critical of Ankara’s plans to expand exploration and drilling operations in the coming weeks into areas Athens claims as its own.

Turkey has accused Greece of trying to exclude it from the benefits of oil and gas finds in the Aegean Sea and Eastern Mediterranean, arguing that sea boundaries for commercial exploitation should be divided between the Greek and Turkish mainland and not include the Greek islands on an equal basis.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry denounced what it called a “maximalist continental shelf claim,” insisting that they were “against international law, legal precedent and court decisions.”

The ministry statement added that the maritime area where Oruc Reis would conduct research was “within the limits of the continental shelf that our country has notified to the United Nations.” It said an exploration license was given to the Turkish state-run oil company, TPAO, in 2012.

Greece is pressing other EU member states to prepare “crippling sanctions? against Turkey if it proceeds with the oil-and-gas exploration plans.”

  9. MEMRI Host on Turkey-Based Muslim Brotherhood Channel Warns Libya Would Be Like Vietnam for Egyptian Army

Egyptian TV host Mohamed Naser Ali said in a July 19, 2020 monologue on Mekameleen TV, an Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood channel, based in Turkey, that it would only serve Israel’s interests if Egypt invades Libya and if there is a clash between the Egyptian and Turkish armies.

He said that Egypt would get stuck in a “quagmire” much like he said the U.S. had gotten stuck in Vietnam, Cambodia, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

He argued that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi should instead focus his efforts on the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

  10. MEMRI Rouhani: COVID-19 Appears to Have Been Brought to Iran by Merchants, Students, Athletes from Wuhan

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a July 18, 2020 address to Iran’s national coronavirus committee that aired on IRINN TV (Iran) that according to Iran’s Ministry of Health, as many as 25 million Iranians have been infected by COVID-19.

He said that according to Health Ministry reports, the outbreak of COVID-19 in Iran originated in the provinces of Qom and Gilan.

President Rouhani explained that the virus appears to have been spread in Qom by businessmen and merchants from Wuhan, and in Gilan by delegations of students and athletes from Wuhan.

  11. Greece Puts Armed Forces on Alert as Turkish Offshore Resource Exploration Raises Tensions (breitbart, Jul 22, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/07/22/greece-armed-forces-alert-turkish-offshore-resource-exploration-raises-tensions/

“Greece put its armed forces on alert on Tuesday after Turkey announced it would be engaging in a seismic survey in disputed waters and launched 15 Turkish naval vessels.

Turkey announced on Tuesday that the seismic exploration vessel Oruc Reis will conduct the offshore survey.

The research will take place in the Eastern Mediterranean, in an area that Greece claims belongs to them, located off the Greek island of Kastellorizo, Greek newspaper Kathimerini reports.

Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA), Konstantinos Floros, returned a day early from Cyprus in response. The alert comes as Turkey and Greece have disagreed over exclusive economic zones (EEZ), with Greece recently discussing the creating of an EEZ with Egypt.

Turkey had announced in December 2019 that it would be creating its own EEZ with Libya, a move that both Greece and Cyprus viewed as void.

Earlier this month, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias made it clear that Greece would not stand for Turkey drilling in the Greek EEZ.

“Greece has a clear obligation and will defend its rights. We have nothing else to discuss or negotiate. Turkey must respect international and maritime law,” Dendias said.

Tuesday also saw 82 violations of Greek airspace by 16 Turkish fighter jets, including eight virtual air battles between Turkish and Greek aircraft. A total of 14 of the violations took place in the area where the Oruc Reis plans to conduct its survey.

Tensions between Greece and Turkey have been at a heightened state for months, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan opening the gates to Greece for tens of thousands of migrants in February before he was forced to close the border due to the coronavirus outbreak.

More recently, Erdogan’s government raised tensions with Greece again after announcing the Hagia Sophia, formerly the largest and most important church in Greek Orthodox Christianity, would be re-converted into a mosque after it had been converted into a museum in 1934.

Turkey has also seen increased tensions with Egypt due to Turkish support for militia groups within neighbouring Libya.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi said last month that his country was prepared to intervene with military force in Libya to maintain stability if Turkey’s allies cross a certain red line. “Those who interpreted our patience as weakness are mistaken,” he said.

Earlier this week, the Egyptian parliament gave President el-Sisi the green light to deploy Egyptian troops in Libya.”

  12. SWITZERLAND – BERN – Man sets himself on fire to protest asylum conditions

A man set fire to himself on Monday in front of the Swiss parliament to protest against conditions in asylum centres in canton Bern. His injuries are not life-threatening.

He was taking part in a demonstration organised by the “Stopp Isolation” group, who say that new asylum return centres in canton Bern are like “open prisons, on the edge of society”.

Bern police confirmed that the man – who onlookers said was an Iranian who had been denied asylum in Switzerland – had set fire to himself, but did not risk fatal injuries.

A video carried by a local television station showed the man being suddenly engulfed by a blaze, before running towards the edge of parliament square with more modest flames on parts of his clothes. Several others who had seen this happen ran after to help put out the fire.

Members of the Stopp Isolation group had met with cantonal and national migration authorities last month to complain about conditions in three new centres to house rejected asylum seekers.

Their dissatisfaction had previously led to an overnight sit-in by around 60 of the asylum seekers in the Reitschule alternative cultural centre in Bern.

  13. Over 3,000 Illegal Migrants Have Reached the UK in Small Boats This Year (breitbart, Jul 22, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/07/22/over-3000-illegal-migrants-have-reached-the-uk-in-small-boats-this-year/

“Over 150 more boat migrants were brought ashore at Dover yesterday, bringing the total number of migrants illegally crossing the English channel this year to more than 3,000, a new record.

On Tuesday, 159 illegal migrants, including small children, aboard 13 small vessels were intercepted while they were attempting to cross the English Channel.

The migrants, who claimed to be Kuwaiti, Iranian, Syrian, Palestinian, Yemeni, Egyptian, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Afghan, Libyan, Sudanese, Moroccan, Turkish and Chad nationals, were brought ashore by the British Border Force at the port of Dover in Kent, according to the BBC.

A spokesman for the Home Office said: “Of the 159 people who arrived, 136 were male and 23 female.”

The Home Office did not reveal how many of the illegal migrants were children, as it has stopped publishing the figures of small children arriving by boat over the Channel.

So far this year over 3,000 migrants on an estimated 230 small dinghies have successfully reached British shores — a yearly record despite being the year being only halfway over — compared to 1,890 for the whole of 2019.

In response to the latest crossings, Nigel Farage said on Tuesday that: “the daily invasion increases at pace.”

“Will this government do anything? It’s all talk and no action,” the Brexit Party leader pronounced, calling on Home Secretary Priti Patel to “do something”.

Last week, Ms Patel said: “I have been in France today seeing first-hand the significant work undertaken on that side of the Channel to address the unacceptably high levels of small boats, alongside the efforts of Border Force and the National Crime Agency in the UK.”

“But despite all of the action taken by law enforcement to date – intercepting the boats, making arrests, returning people to France and putting the criminals responsible behind bars – the numbers continue to increase,” she said, adding “This simply cannot be allowed to go on.”

The Home Secretary said her French counterpart has agreed to establish a “joint intelligence cell” to tackle the issue of people smuggling gangs, who facilitate the migrant boat crossings of the Channel.

There has still been no agreement, however, on implementing a system in that would see intercepted migrant boats in the Channel immediately returned to France, which is a safe first world country, where under international law, migrants and asylum seekers must remain.

According to the London-based think tank Migration Watch UK, the drastic increase in illegal boat migration will result in nearly 7,600 illegal migrants by Christmas. This projection is just for those actually recorded by immigration officials, and will likely be far higher, in reality, the migration pressure group warned.

To date, the British government has also failed in deporting illegal boat migrants. A report from the same think tank found that between the start of 2018 and May of this year just 155 migrants were successfully deported, representing just 15 per cent of the 3,200 migrants that reached the United Kingdom during that time period.”

  14. Morocco Tags 7.2 Million Livestock for Eid Al Adha

An astronomer forecasts that Moroccans will celebrate Eid Al Adha on July 31.

Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Agriculture said the country’s operators have tagged over 7.2 million livestock for Eid Al Adha, or the feast of sacrifice, expected on July 31.

The ministry said the livestock tagging process started on April 22 with strong involvement of all operators, including breeders.

The distribution of sheep and goats in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region reached 122,400 livestock, while distribution of livestock in Rabat-Sale-Kenitra is estimated at 972,000.

Meanwhile, the Casablanca-Settat region saw the distribution of 1,353,600 livestock, after Marrakech-Safi (1,440,000).

    Other regions where livestock were distributed include Souss Massa (115,200), the Oriental (720,000), Fes-Meknes (921,600), Draa-Tafilalet (208,800), Beni Mellal-Khenifra (1,281,600), Guelmim-Oued Noun (36,000), Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra (26,000), and Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab (10,000), the ministry said in a statement.

The statement said that sheep and goats for the 2020 Eid Al Adha are identified with a yellow tag bearing a serial number different for each animal, as in the past two years.

The ministry said the identification operation will end on July 15, with a final number of eight million livestock.

The statement reassured citizens that several awareness coordination meetings took place, on a consistent basis, to ensure safety measures in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moroccan astronomer Abdelaziz Kharbouch Al Ifrani told Morocco World News on Friday that Eid Al Adha will fall on July 31.

Al Ifrani also forecast a unified Eid Al Adha across the Middle East and North Africa.

  15. Report: Anti-Christian Attacks in Europe Rose 285 Percent Since 2008 (breitbart, Jul 22, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/faith/2020/07/22/report-anti-christian-attacks-in-europe-rose-285-percent-since-2008/

“The number of officially recorded anti-Christian incidents in Europe has risen by 285 percent between 2008 and 2019, according to Ellen Fantini, director of the Vienna-based Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination Against Christians in Europe (OIDACE).

Speaking with the Catholic News Agency (CNA), Fantini said that the trend of increasing attacks is particularly noteworthy in France, such as the recent arson attack on the Nantes Cathedral, but is evident elsewhere as well.

Citing data provided to the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe), anti-Christian crimes in the UK doubled from 2017 to 2018, Fantini said. “We know they are rising in Spain, Germany, and Sweden, as well.”

In its 2019 report, OIDACE chronicled the increase in Christian persecution throughout Europe, pointing to “a rise in the number of churches, Christian symbols, and cemeteries across Europe being vandalized, desecrated, and burned, compared to previous years.”

Moreover, the report states, across Europe, “Christians have been fired, sued, and even arrested for exercising their freedom of expression or conscience.”

“As we have noted in the past, Christians in Europe are not simply experiencing social discrimination, prejudice, or restrictions on freedom. Christians, including clergy, have been attacked or killed for their faith. As in previous years we have continued to see threats and attacks against Christian converts from Islam,” the report stated.

The 64-page report offered summary descriptions of more than 325 cases of intolerance and discrimination against Christians in Europe for the year 2018.

The report also cites the official annual crime statistics for 2018 provided by the French Interior Ministry, which included 1063 “anti-Christian acts” and showed that in the ten-year period from 2008 to 2018, there was an increase of some 250 percent in attacks on Christian sites.

Christian sites in Europe suffered a record number of attacks in the year 2019, with some 3,000 Christian churches, schools, cemeteries, and monuments vandalized, looted, or defaced.

Another report compiling the anti-Christian acts perpetrated during 2019 revealed a range of profanation including arson, defecation, desecration, looting, mockery, Satanism, theft, urination, and vandalism.

The greatest number of acts of violence against Christian sites occurred in France, where churches, schools, cemeteries, and monuments “are being vandalized, desecrated, and burned at an average rate of three per day,” according to reports.

According to Wednesday’s CNA report, the French Interior Ministry registered 996 anti-Christian acts in 2019 — an average of nearly three per day — while noting that the true figure may be higher, since officials do not count fires of undetermined cause at churches across the country.

Last month, arsonists set fire to the Saint-Pierre cathedral in Rennes but were thwarted by firefighters who arrived in time to put out the blaze before serious damage was done. The 15th-century Nantes cathedral was not so fortunate, suffering substantial damage after it was set afire last week.

Germany is not far behind, however, with attacks against Christian churches happening at an average rate of two per day. Meanwhile, attacks on Christian churches and symbols regularly occurred in 2019 in Belgium, the UK, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, and Spain as well.

The Vatican itself has denounced the rise in anti-Christian hate crimes throughout Europe.

Speaking in May on behalf of the Holy See, Monsignor Janusz Urba?czyk stressed the gravity of anti-Christian violence in an address at an OSCE conference on intolerance and discrimination.

Msgr. Urba?czyk noted the worrisome increase in explicitly anti-Christian acts across Europe, including “threats, violent attacks, murders and profanation of churches and places of worship, cemeteries and other religious properties.”

In his address, Urba?czyk added his concern over the growth of the false idea “that religions could have a negative impact or represent a threat to the well-being of our societies.””

  16. Sweden: Parents citizen arrest pedophile who sexually attacked their 11 year old son

A person who raped and sexually harassed two underage children in the Swedish city of Upplands Väsby is now being charged.

In November last year a 12 year old boy was threatened with a knife and raped. After being raped, the young boy offers the attacker his weekly allowance in order to let him go free. The suspect took the money and let the child go.

Police were alerted, however they did not manage to find the suspect.

A few weeks later, an 11 year old boy is assaulted in the same city.

The boy manages to escape and run home to his parents. However, the parents not only call the police, but they also go out to find the pedophile who attacked their son.

Parents to the boy manage to find the suspect and they do a citizens arrest while waiting for the police to arrive.

The 16 year old suspect is a citizen of Somalia and came to Sweden in 2017 together with his family.

He was suspected to have committed 35 different crimes, including assault, threats and burglary. He had even been taken by social services, despite this he was able to rape and sexually assault two children.

Thanks to DNA evidence, police manage to connect the attacks against the 12 year old boy and the 11 year old boy to the same suspect.

He is now being charged with raping a child, sexual harassment and illegal threat. As part of the prosecution, his mental state will be evaluated by a psychiatrist.

  17. DAILY MAIL – 15 children are found covered in scars and wounds at a Nigerian Islamic school where they were tortured and kept in chains

The children were discovered Sunday in ‘dehumanising condition’ at the school
Signs of torture including scars and wounds were discovered on the children
The cleric who ran the school in Suleja in Niger state was arrested during the raid

Police have freed 15 children from an Islamic school in central Nigeria where they were kept in chains and tortured.

The children, aged between two and 10, were discovered Sunday in a ‘dehumanising condition’ at an informal Koran school in the town of Suleja in Niger state, regional police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun said on Tuesday.

In the house where they were found, ‘three chains used to tie their legs were also recovered,’ he said.

It comes after a spate of raids on such institutions last year led to over 1,000 people, many of them children, being rescued.

Abiodun said signs of torture, including scars and wounds were discovered on the children when they were rescued.

He said the cleric who ran the school, Umar Ahmed, 46, was arrested during the raid.

‘The case is under investigation and the suspect will soon be arraigned in court for prosecution,’ he said.

Informal Islamic religious schools, called almajiri schools, are common in Nigeria, where there is a chronic lack of government services.

They are widely criticised for squalid conditions, poor treatment and making pupils beg on the streets.

Many also operate as so-called rehabilitation centres, for drug addicts and children with behavioural problems.

Last year, three major raids on such institutes in less than a month led to police rescuing hundreds of inmates.

Police freed about 500 men and boys from an Islamic school in Katsina, northern Nigeria in October 2019.

The men were shackled and tortured at the school where they had been enrolled by their families to learn the Koran. Many had also been sent there to be treated for drug addiction.

The news came less than three weeks after nearly 500 men and young boys were freed from the Islamic boarding school in Kaduna, around 280 miles south of Daura.

On September 26, police discovered nearly 500 men and young boys standing in rows wearing ankle shackles, while others had their hands chained. Other photos show the torture victims with horrific scars on their backs.

One victim even claimed that previous students had died from being tortured.

Parents have since been reunited with some of the children rescued by police at the Hajj transit camp.

Police said the detainees were from Burkina Faso, Mali and other African countries.

The victims, including adults and minors, were kept in ‘the most debasing and inhuman conditions in the name of teaching them the Koran and reforming them’, Kaduna state police spokesman Yakubu Sabo said.

Police had been tipped off by complaints from local residents who became suspicious of what was happening inside the school.

During the raid on the school, police said they found a ‘torture chamber’ where students were chained, hung and beaten.

The school, which has been operating for a decade, enrolled students brought by their families to learn the Koran and be rehabilitated from drug abuse and other illnesses, police said.

The proprietor of the school and six staff were arrested during the raid in Kaduna.

In November last year, Nigerian police freed 259 emaciated women, men and teenagers from another Islamic rehabilitation centre where captives said they were chained and beaten.

Many reported that they were beaten regularly by their captors after they were released from the prison-like building with bars over its windows in Ibadan.

They appeared to be malnourished and one of the men told local media, ‘We eat one meal a day,’ while another described how he had been held captive by the clerics for smoking a cigarette.

In May, governors of the 19 states in northern Nigeria announced a ban on almajiri schools over fears they could become hubs for spreading the coronavirus.

  18. ISIS remains the ‘most significant’ threat to the UK, warns Defence Secretary as he reveals RAF have bombed 40 terror targets in the past year (dailymail, Jul 22, 2020)
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8549627/ISIS-remains-significant-threat-UK-warns-Defence-Secretary.html

“ISIS remains the ‘most significant’ threat to the UK, the Defence Secretary has warned today.

Ben Wallace said an estimated 360 people from the UK who travelled to Syria and Iraq to fight for the terror group, also referred to as Daesh, remain in the region either at large or in detention.

RAF aircraft have struck 40 terrorist targets as part of operations against ISIS in the last 12 months.

But he said the ‘hard fight’ is ‘by no means done’ despite the group having lost control of territory it once held in Syria and Iraq.

Making a statement to the Commons, Mr Wallace explained: ‘These targets range from caves occupied by Daesh terrorists in remote areas of northern Iraq, to weapons caches, bunkers and training camps – and included the destruction of two Daesh strong points engaged in close combat with Iraqi security forces.’

But he added: ‘The threat from Daesh, I’m afraid, remains.

‘Their poisonous ideology continues to endure, their pernicious influence continues to spread.

‘Conflict, economic collapse and inequality is creating new opportunities that they will continue to exploit, to grow and recruit.’

He continued: ‘The prospect of their resurgence should concern us all. As long as they are able to operate over there, they can hit our citizens over here.

‘Daesh retains its intent to carry out and inspire attacks against us, and remains the most significant terrorist threat to the United Kingdom and our interests.’

Mr Wallace said the Iraqi security forces still require assistance, with the UK providing training and mentoring plus air support…”

  19. US Says Airstrike Killed Seven Jihadists in Somalia
    https://www.thedefensepost.com/2020/07/22/airstrike-jihadists-somalia/

“A US airstrike targeting the Islamic State group in Somalia killed seven jihadists, the American military said Wednesday.

The strike came after IS gunmen attacked US-allied troops in a remote area southeast of the port city of Bosaso in the semi-autonomous Puntland region.

A statement from the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) said US forces were in the area at the time of the bombardment to “advise and assist” Somali troops.

The AFRICOM statement also said, “we assess no civilians were injured or killed.”

IS has a relatively small footprint in Somalia, where Al Qaeda-affiliated Al-Shabaab jihadists regularly carry out attacks against government and international targets.

Somalia has suffered near-continuous conflict for almost 30 years, while the internationally-backed government in Mogadishu has been fighting Al-Shabaab since 2008.”

“Four PKK terrorists surrendered to Turkish security forces in the country’s southeastern Sirnak province, the National Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

The terrorists, who fled from the areas the PKK terror group takes shelter in northern Iraq, laid down arms in the Silopi district of Sirnak, it added.

“As a result of our decisive operations, PKK terrorists continue to surrender,” the ministry also said.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and EU — has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.”

    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/turkey-neutralizes-2-pkk-terrorists-in-n-iraq/1919154

“Turkish security forces “neutralized” two PKK terrorists in northern Iraq near the Turkish border, the National Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

The terrorists were “neutralized” in Hakurk region in an air-backed operation, the ministry said on Twitter.

Turkey’s anti-terror operations continue with determination and without any letup, the statement added.

The ministry also shared footage of the operation.

Turkish authorities use the term “neutralized” to imply the terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured.

Operations Claw-Tiger and Claw-Eagle were launched in June to ensure the safety of Turkish people and borders by neutralizing the threat of PKK and other terrorist groups, who often use northern Iraq to plan cross-border attacks.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and EU – has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.”

  25. Turkey: Interpol bring in 70 wanted fugitives since Jan
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/turkey-interpol-bring-in-70-wanted-fugitives-since-jan/1919139

“Turkish Interpol as of Wednesday returned 70 wanted fugitives to the country in operations in the first six months of the year.

Following successful missions coordinated with their counterparts from other countries, Turkey’s Interpol-Europol police department brought back the suspected criminals, who allegedly fled the country, between Jan. 1 and July 1.

During the first half of 2020, as a result of operations, a total of 47 suspects were extradited to Turkey, eight were transferred and 15 were deported.

Following procedures, the suspects were referred to judiciary authorities.

Half of the suspects were wanted for public order crimes, 22 for smuggling and 13 for terrorism.

Comparing the same period over the past three years, the number of extraditions of wanted suspects climbed in 2020, from 24 in 2018, 35 last year and 47 in 2020.

Most suspects were picked up at Turkey’s border crossings with Bulgaria and Georgia as international flights had been restricted due to the novel coronavirus pandemic for the bulk of this period.”

  26. Jihadists in northeastern Nigeria execute five abducted humanitarian workers: NGO
    https://www.france24.com/en/20200722-jihadists-northeastern-nigeria-execute-abducted-humanitarian-workers-islamic-state

“Jihadists have killed five aid workers abducted last month in restive northeast Nigeria, group Action Against Hunger said Wednesday.

The announcement came after insurgents affiliated to the so-called Islamic State group released a video online purporting to show the execution of the five Nigerian men.

“It is with profound grief that we confirm the murder of Ishaku Yakubu, Action Against Hunger (ACF) staff member from Monguno, and four other aid workers,” the French-based aid group said.

It said the humanitarian workers “were taken hostage by a non-state armed group in Borno State, northeast Nigeria, on June 8”.

“This unjustifiable killing reflects the immense difficulty faced by independent and impartial humanitarian actors, and the violence we are exposed to every day to fulfil our mission,” ACF said.

Aid group International Rescue Committee (IRC) confirmed that one of its employees was also among those killed.

“The IRC strongly condemns the senseless execution of our colleague, Luka Filibus, and his fellow humanitarian captives,” it said.

“We condemn this barbaric treatment and demand the immediate return of his remains to his family.”

Humanitarian workers have been repeatedly targeted by jihadist groups waging a decade-long insurgency in northeast Nigeria.

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari expressed his sympathy “for the families of the five aid workers” and pledged the jihadists would be “wiped out completely”.

“Security agencies in the state will work closely with their organisations to implement measures to ensure that no such kidnapping of staff occurs again,” a statement from the presidency said.

The 10-year conflict in northeast Nigeria has killed 36,000 people and displaced about two million from their homes.

Last year fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) faction abducted a group of six humanitarian workers — including a female ACF employee — in the region.

Five of the hostages were later executed and the ACF worker remains in captivity.

ISWAP splintered from jihadist group Boko Haram in 2016 and swore allegiance to then IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Aid groups provide a vital lifeline for some 7.9 million people who the United Nations says are in need of urgent assistance in the region.”

  27. 73% of ‘underaged’ asylum seekers in Belgium are actually adults: study
    https://rmx.news/article/article/73-of-underaged-asylum-seekers-in-belgium-are-actually-adults-study

“Three out of four self-labeled underage asylum seekers examined in Belgium are actually adults, according to the data requested by the Flemish MP Tom Van Grieken from Minister of Justice Koen Geens.

Van Grieken believes that there is no place for such fraudsters in the country.

“Asylum seekers guilty of age fraud should be denied the right to asylum,” said Van Grieken, pointing out that not punishing such a fraud only encourages others to take their chances with the same deception, according to Belgian newspaper portal Sceptr.

In recent years, more and more unaccompanied children from Africa or the Middle East are sent to Europe by their families. The reason for this is obvious as unaccompanied minor migrants hold a particular status in Europe. They cannot be deported and, above all, they are not subject to the Dublin Regulation, meaning they can choose in which country they want to ask for asylum.

The child’s family can then also come to the chosen European country within the family reunification rule. In many countries in Europe, underage migrants are also eligible for certain benefits that are not available to adults.

However, these so-called underage asylum seekers often turn out not to be minors at all, according to figures from Justice Minister Koen Geens.

Last year, a total of 4,563 migrants declared that they were minors, but competent authorities doubted such a claim at 2,546 of them. A part of that group then underwent an age-test, which revealed that 73.7 percent were indeed older than 18 years-of-age.

“The figure leaves only small room for doubt that a systematic fraud on a large scale takes place,” commented MP Dries Van Langenhoven.

“These fraudsters have to pay the costs of the investigation, and then they can pack their bags. Done,” she concluded.

The widespread problem of migrants lying about their age
The issue is not unique to Belgium. In recent years, state sponsored studies have identified numerous cases of migrants lying about their age.

For example, an incredible 84 percent of “child migrants” tested by Swedish health authorities were actually adults aged 18 or older, according to a report from the BBC.

In Germany, there are over 400,000 migrants who have their birthdate as Jan. 1, which is what German authorities list on official documents for those migrants who apply for asylum without an ID and who do not know or refuse to say when their date of birth is. Many also throw away their documents to hide both their age and true country of origin, especially if they come from a country that is not eligible for asylum requests.

According to a study by the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Münster, a large proportion of underage immigrants lie about their age. The university clinic’s forensic specialists examined around 600 so-called unaccompanied minor refugees on behalf of the courts where their age was questioned. The institute determined that around 40 percent of them were demonstrably 18 years of age or older, according to the study available online.

The issue has taken special prominence ever since European governments said they would begin accepting thousands of underage migrant minors directly from Greece migrant camps, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who said Germany would accept 1,500. Conservative politicians have expressed skepticism over how many of them are truly minors, especially given the widespread fraud that has been documented.”
