  1. Repeating my comment on Coram Deo’s thought-provoking original posting in Reader’s link. The speaker is eloquent but is comparing masks to respirators, transmission to protection. If even she confuses the two, then the differences aren’t clear.

Here’s the appendix she mentions. It looks as though it is a health form that an employee’s physician completes before the employer requires the employee to wear a respirator. https://www.osha.gov/laws-regs/regulations/standardnumber/1910/1910.134AppC

The mask thing is to prevent wet-talkers from spreading droplet-borne virus. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-38808-z) 20 February 2019 “Aerosol emission and super[-]emission during human speech increase with voice loudness”, cited in https://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/headlines-breaking-stories/1864008/wet-talkers-and-re-entering-the-shuls.html That kind of goes back to the Washington state church choir practice deaths. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6919e6.htm

Perhaps the person with severe respiratory conditions should avoid crowds. Whether or not spit-transmission exists and whether a cloth mask reduces spit-transmission is the opening line, not whether or not a respirator is a problem. Frankly, the eye entry point is being ignored. That’s probably because the point of masks is transmission, not protection.

Right now, we also need a protocol for following people who have recovered. We’re hoping that will be most of us at some point. The longer one can put off contracting the illness, the more hope there is for an effective and available anti-viral strategy.

    • “Following a 2.5-hour choir practice attended by 61 persons, including a symptomatic index patient, 32 confirmed and 20 probable secondary COVID-19 cases occurred (attack rate = 53.3% to 86.7%); three patients were hospitalized, and two died. Transmission was likely facilitated by close proximity (within 6 feet) during practice and augmented by the act of singing.

What are the implications for public health practice?

The potential for superspreader events underscores the importance of physical distancing, including avoiding gathering in large groups, to control spread of COVID-19. Enhancing community awareness can encourage symptomatic persons and contacts of ill persons to isolate or self-quarantine to prevent ongoing transmission.”

      • But why should everybody have to worry so much about the virus when it’s only old ex-smokers with health problems like me who really have to worry. I really don’t want to catch COVID-19 and am quite willing to hang out and isolate until a vaccine is developed, but why should everybody else?

I don’t go anywhere, let alone into large crowds, and I get everything from groceries to medications to booze delivered and just slip a credit card under the door and take possession of the delivery. And I haven’t been anywhere near a kid in months.

The only reason they are closing the schools is to make Donald Trump look as bad as possible for the November election, otherwise there is no reason the schools should be closed. COVID-19 is not a childhood disease and children shouldn’t even be thinking about it and if they catch it, they can blow their noses and maybe miss a couple of days of school and that is that…

Did you ever wonder why the gangsters don’t just start shooting judges and prosecutors and cops like they do in Mexico? The answer goes back to the days when they would “lynch” gangsters who did such things and leave some dead Italian pistoleros hanging from lampposts just to make the point. Gangsters knew that if they killed a judge the forces of Justice would come down on them like a ton of bricks and there would be no charges laid and no prosecutor would say a “peep”. Back then the bad guys knew they’d get every bone in their bodies broken by the cops and nobody would object if they tried murdering the DA.

But now things are different, aren’t they? We see Hillary and Joe get away with serious ten-year-sentence crimes solely because the are Democrats and we see the police literally on their knees begging for forgiveness from vicious psychopathic black gangsters as they send the signal to the criminal world that the police are a spent force and are nothing to fear. Hence the dead judge.

Every time a criminal sees a cop on his knees with tears in his eyes whining, “Please don’t hurt me, Mr. Black Gangster… I’m so afraid and I peed my pants… Boo, hoo, whine, sniff, waaahhh…”. the chances of the next gangster whacking a judge or a police chief or a senator or a DA increase considerably because he no longer respects or even fears the chicken-shit pink-skinned honky police. The police now know that nobody has their back, except Donald Trump, of course…

The current Democrat Party is single-mindedly focused on damaging the United States to the core. Soon all the criminals will figure out that they can kill a judge and nothing will happen and they will indeed start doing just that. Stay tuned… Remember when Maxine Waters said to get in the faces of Republicans you don’t like if you saw them eating in a restaurant? She really shouldn’t have said that…

    • And Loretta Lynch (or Oprah? or Susan Rice? or Donna-CNN?) said, something to the effect of: things won’t get better till a bunch of old white folks DIE.

    • Every time a criminal sees a cop on his knees…

      Alexander Maistrovoy:
The resemblance [to ISIS] is not limited to the demolition of monuments and destruction of artifacts. The fundamental similarity of the ideologies is also manifested in the emphasis on destruction of personality in their human victims. The Bolsheviks committed many disgusting and monstrous bloody crimes, but they didn’t put people on their knees. That is a weapon from the arsenal of other cultures.

There is a deep and ancient symbolism in this very action. A human put down on his knees ceases to be a human. He is turned into a slave, a worm that can be crushed – or perhaps can be spared. But even when spared, he is no longer a human being. He is a worm.…
Such methods were widely practiced in Asian-style tyranny of the past and present; for example, during the “cultural revolution” in Maoist China and under Pol Pot’s regime. They have been replicated by ISIS and today have become a way of subjugating the “white masses” of the West too.…
