Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Yemen: Inter-Houthi Fighting Leaves Dozens of Casualties
    https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2383266/yemen-inter-houthi-fighting-leaves-dozens-casualties

“Inter-Houthi fighting, as part of a fierce competition among the militia’s leaders for more influence and money in Yemen, has reached an unprecedented scale, informed sources said.

The capital Sanaa and other Houthi-run areas have witnessed severe differences that led to fighting among the militia’s members, leaving dozens of casualties, they said.

More than 19 clashes in seven cities in the past 35 days are signs of rising tension among Houthi commanders, the sources told Asharq Al-Awsat.

At least 38 people were killed and 66 injured in clashes between June and July 5 in the capital, the provinces of Sanaa, Ibb and Dhamar and other regions, they said.

A week ago, local sources said that a Houthi commander, who goes by the nom de guerre of Abou Ayyoub, was killed in Sanaa along with several associates during clashes with the militia’s security personnel.

A few days earlier, Sheikh Akram Haidara, another Houthi figure, was killed at his home south of Sanaa, media reports said.

In Ibb, a source close to the insurgents told Asharq Al-Awsat that fistfights and knife attacks erupted among Houthi militiamen over counter-accusations on looting.

The source, who refused to be identified, said the bickering parties pointed their guns and threatened to kill each other.

Similar incidents also recently took place near the provincial security administration and several other areas in the province.

Dhamar province has also witnessed the assassination of several high-ranking Houthi officials, a local source said.”

  2. At Border with Iran, Iraq PM Vows to fight Customs Corruption
    https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2383911/border-iran-iraq-pm-vows-fight-customs-corruption

“Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi launched a new campaign on Saturday against corruption at the country’s borders, saying millions of dollars were being lost by not properly taxing imported goods.

Speaking at the Mandili crossing on the border with Iran, Kadhimi said Iraq’s frontier had become “a hotbed for corrupt people”.

“This is the beginning of our promise to combat corruption. The first phase is to protect border crossings with new security forces,” he said.

“The second is to fight ‘ghosts’ trying to blackmail Iraqis, and the third is to automate the crossing with new technology,” the premier said, standing alongside Border Crossing Commission head Omar al-Waeli.

In response to a question by AFP, Kadhimi added: “We encourage businessmen (importing goods) to pay the customs, not the bribes.”

“This will serve as a message to all corrupt people.”

Iraq imports virtually all of its consumer goods from either its eastern neighbor Iran or its northern neighbor Turkey.

But government officials, foreign diplomats and businessmen have long complained that the import process at both borders is complicated and rife with corruption.

They accuse customs offices of getting kickbacks from traders in exchange for charging no or low import duties…”

  5. Turkish forces ‘neutralize’ 8 PKK terrorists in N Iraq
    https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkish-forces-neutralize-8-pkk-terrorists-in-n-iraq-156465

“Turkish security forces “neutralized” eight PKK terrorists as part of Operation Claw-Tiger in northern Iraq, the National Defense Ministry said on July 11.

The terrorists were targeted in the Haftanin region in an air-backed operation, the ministry said on Twitter.

The operation is successfully ongoing and it would continue until the last terrorist is neutralized, it added.

Turkish authorities use the term “neutralized” to imply the terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured.

Turkey’s operations Claw-Tiger and Claw-Eagle were launched last week to ensure the safety of the Turkish people and borders by neutralizing the threat of the PKK and other terrorist groups, who often use northern Iraq to plan cross-border attacks.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU – has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants.”

    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/35-iran-backed-terrorists-die-in-an-airstrike-in-syria/1906728

“At least 35 Iran-backed terrorists fighting in the ranks of the Assad regime were reported killed on Saturday in an airstrike in Deir ez-Zor province in eastern Syria.

Unidentified warplanes targeted a military convoy of Iran-backed foreign terrorists in Deir ez-Zor province, Albukamal region along the Iraqi border, according to local sources.

Two high ranking commanders were also killed in the attack.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the strike.

Along the Syria-Iraq border, Deir ez-Zor also connects Iran to Lebanon.

Pipelines and trade routes from Iraq and Jordan also pass through this province.

With the help of Russia and Iran-backed militias, the central and the western parts of Deir ez-Zor fell to the Assad regime after Daesh/ISIS terrorists retreated from the region.

The majority of Iran-backed foreign militias fighting along with the Asad regime’s forces on land are located in Deir ez-Zor.

These groups, in the Sunni-majority population are being commanded by Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

Iran-backed militias give training based on sects, organize cultural activities, and supervise the opening of Shia prayer centers in the predominantly Sunni region.

Deir ez-Zor territory on the east of Euphrates, on the other hand, is currently under the control of terrorist organization YPG/PKK.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and EU — has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is the PKK’s Syrian offshoot.”
