Reader’s Links for June 28, 2020

Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    • George Floyd Protester Demographics:

      Research Finding June 2020

Devices were observed for geographic areas around specific protest
locations in New York, Los Angeles, Minneapolis and Atlanta

      – Device data was collected on May 29th, 30th and 31st

      – “Day” data was collected during non-curfew hours

      – “Night” data was collected during the curfew hours specific to each city

      – A device with a common evening location within a 150km radius of city
center was considered as belonging to someone who lived “inside” that city
      vs “outside” of that city

      ================================
      Gender Distribution: Male vs. Female

THERE WERE MORE MALE PROTESTERS IN ALL CITIES FOR AN AVERAGE OF DEVICES OBSERVED ACROSS DAY AND NIGHT

      ==================================
      Age Distribution

      18 – 34 = 65%

      ===================================

      Ethnicity Distribution

DISTRIBUTION FOR DEVICES OBSERVED ACROSS DAY AND NIGHT

      • Very interesting. High majority of protestors don’t live in the cities where they were protesting and so many are ‘woke and/or dysfunctional’ Caucasians.

Thinking… Minneapolis is in the process of disbanding its police force as a result of non-resident protests.

        • I don’t know where the ones protesting in Boston were from – not our dialect, at any rate. Whites vastly out-number blacks. Generic communists.

          • They are professional agitators from all across the nation, Soros and others (including some foreign nations) are paying for them to go from city to city protesting and if the local police allow start riots. It is highly unlikely that they have enough members to take over the nation by force. But they do have enough people who are trained to start a major terror offensive in the US, once the left starts the various Islamic terror groups will start their own attacks. Their goal won’t be to win the war but to damage us badly enough that we won’t be able to continue opposing the worlds Dictatorships overseas.

  1. It is with heavy heart that I illuminate dear readers on another target of our predator collectivists.

Recently I wrote of the murder of the letter formerly known as “N”. This tragedy, which results in a de facto amputation, now, from countless words, will soon be understood in its full depth and breadth.

Yesterday, whilst walking down the street, shuffling to the beat, I overheard a person of helldepth IQ mutter the new manifestation of the slur-that-can’t be spoken. Yes, the word responsible for the murder of N. Igger.

Imagine it. No sooner had we discovered the crime on these small and modest VTB pages but was it already “out on the streets”, so to speak. And to give credit where it is due, it was Eeyore who I first heard mutter that irony is the most common element in the universe. For the mutterer of the letter of the word I heard on the proverbial street was, shall we say, pigmentally over-endowedl! So yes, it is this easy. Build it, or destroy it, and they will come. They will grab it and use it without understanding it. Yet, this is not even the point of my story. And I will say that, while we are only too aware of the propensity of the igger to use the word with infinite alacrity, it remains still too close to the original to mouth in our dark time for those of us who are, shall we say, under-endowed in our particular sense. For this reason I could say that I will refrain from using it, but it turns out it is not even necessary. As a momentary aside, I will abbreviate the appropriator of the word coined herein as a pigme. Pigme at once encapsulates the challenged intellectual stature, the self-serving nature, and his empirical, shall we say, hue? But alas, since I suddenly realize that pigme is dangerously close to pygmy, I must in the name of self-preservation offer an alphabetical cosmetic of my own. Or call it any kind of social distancing you wish. I will describe the appropriator of the new iteration, then, of the word that cannot be said, as a pyjama, or PJ for short. Time to breath.

As another aside, I realize there is something of a Herman Melville-ish tone creeping into this thing, and for this I apologize. It happens with weaker writers, I admit. The words end up writing the writer while it is supposed to be the writer who is in charge of the words. I’m like a one-legged shepherd herding cats.

Back to the story, then, the PJ was speaking with another PJ and together, along with the university poli-sci prof. they were quoting, came to an earth-moving epiphany. I add that the dialect on this little island of insanity requires translation, or perhaps lectoring (if correct?). For clarity, then, I shall eliminate the avalanche of grunts, groans, bro’s, s’upps, knowwhatI’msaying’s, yo’s, yelps and whatevers that peppered the lingo. Just to the jist, then:

Repeating consonants represent glut(t)onous, conspicuous, alphabetical consumption! In a twist of the Lysenkoist spirit, repeating consonants are an over-concentration of themselves. They must be spread out more for the benefit of more words. Of course, as a white construct they must end immediately–as in yesterday!

Igger becomes iger. Butter buter. Silly sily. And so on. The phonetical help provided by the double consonant in keeping the preceding vowel short is now gone. This renders a new lawlessness, or linguistic anarchy equivalent to the worst downtown Seattle you can find anywhere.

Keep negating the language and grunts are all you’ll get. Sure, it may sound absurd but it still remains a step behind reality.

Alright, then, I’ve had my fun with letters. Maybe I just wanted to prove that I could play the commies’ language game as well, or better, than they, before I throw the whole worthless mess in the garbage where it belongs. In the end it all amounts to the most silly, utter bullshit imaginable, doesn’t it? On a scale equal to all the debt in the world, ironically.

    Great book:

    • Thank you very much.

On the battlefield you know who the enemy is and you can shoot back, in the states right now you aren’t sure which side most people are supporting and you are told that your enemy is a protected species that you are forbidden to shoot.

        • The US military has the same problem, Gulf War I and II were the last time we really had a military that was trained to fight a no holds barred war and win. Since then we have become a combination of the Police and Meals on Wheels. To add to the problem the left and their Propaganda Media allies have made the US incredibly causality adverse. You plan and train to reduce causalities but you can’t let fear of causalities cause you to stop fighting.

    • This is what is going to bring everything down, the communist can be fought and defeated but the government corruption is what kills nations and civilizations.

  2. Japan Might Let Warships Use Force to Protect Cargo Vessels in Mideast Waters – Reports (sputniknews, Jun 28, 2020)
    https://sputniknews.com/world/202006281079738871-japan-might-let-warships-use-force-to-protect-cargo-vessels-in-mideast-waters—reports/

“The government of Japan is inclined to authorize use of force by patrol vessels of its Self-Defence Forces to protect Japanese commercial vessels in the Middle Eastern waters, national media reported on Sunday.

According to the Yomiuri Shimbun daily, the government’s opinion is that should a Japanese commercial vessel be attacked by a third party vessel while there is a Japanese patrol ship in immediate vicinity, the latter’s use of force would not be in violation of the constitution’s Article 9, dubbed “peaceful” and prohibiting Tokyo from using force for settling international conflicts.

Last June, a tanker of a Japanese subsidiary was attacked in the Middle Eastern waters, which prompted Tokyo to revisit the ninth article and consider sending escort patrol ships.

Japanese warships are still prohibited from using force to protect foreign vessels under any circumstances or protect own commercial ships if the attack occurred at distance.

Throughout January and February, Japan sent a destroyer and Lockheed P-3 Orion surveillance aircraft to patrol an area covering the Gulf of Oman, the northern part of the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden, while omitting the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.”

  3. Drug barons are bankrolling DJs to organise illegal festival-sized raves across UK this summer, police say (dailymail, Jun 28, 2020)
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8467745/Drug-barons-bankrolling-DJs-organise-illegal-festival-sized-raves.html

“Drug barons are paying DJs to organise illegal ‘festival-sized’ raves in various locations across the UK, police fear.

Gangsters in the northwest want the large, drug-fuelled parties to go ahead because they create a crowded market of ravers who want to buy their class-A substances, a Greater Manchester Police source said.

Several of the 13 illegal raves stopped by police in Greater Manchester last weekend were funded by criminals.

And police fear the trend will continue with a series of ‘giant raves’ bringing partygoers flocking to the area for a ‘crazy summer’ after festivals were cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis.

Gangs pay for music equipment and around six or seven DJs per party and still stand to make massive profit by selling various pills, cocaine, cannabis, MDMA, ketamine and highly-popular laughing gas canisters.

A police source told The Sunday Times: ‘The clubs and bars in Manchester are currently shut due to lockdown.

‘Criminals are adapting by using these illegal raves to supply pills, cocaine, cannabis, MDMA and ketamine.’

They added: ‘A gang that controls the drug supply of a 4,000-person rave event stands to make an enormous amount of money.’…”

    • Like speakeasies. These are entrepreneurs. They may go far.

Papa Joe Kennedy got his start as a bootlegger. Irish mafia, allied to the IRA, enemy of the British. Jumped up to Ambassador to the Court of St. James (!!), where he passed tactical info to the Nazis. Withdrawn in haste, hush-hush in 1940.

Family continued support of the IRA, sheltered its fugitive terrorists here. They served as muscle for the political machine that ran the Hub.

Any time you see soft-focus treatment of the “martyred” brothers, remember the blood debts accrued by their Pappy. Close ties – and feuds – with the Italian mafia survived the death of the old man died.

Pelosi is a Baltimore mafia princess. Three heartbeats from POTUS.

      • While you are talking about Mob connected Politicians look at Truman, Boss Pendergast started him in politics and controlled him up until Pendergast died.

While you are at it remember how FDR let Lucky Luciano out of the pen to get the Mafia to help on the invasion of Sicily, they did nothing but he stayed out.

Then LBJ got in bed with the Opium growers and smugglers in the far east including letting them ship opium on US military airplanes. Nixon stopped that but guess who gets the blame for the US working with the Mob?

There is a long history of the Democrats working with organized crime, a history that is ignored by the Propaganda Media and mostly unknown by the rest of the people.

        • Yep, it’s all bad.
Always covered by the media. Which was as soft on Stalin as FDR, and traitors like Walter Kronkite defeated us in Vietnam.
It’s only become more florid now. It’s an Achilles heel.

    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1302132/London-violence-Sadiq-Khan-police-officers-street-parties-Shaun-Bailey-latest

“LONDON faces a “summer of crime” if Sadiq Khan does not “get a grip” and back the Metropolitan Police, amid growing fears that police forces have “lost control”.

Sadiq Khan “is destroying lives” by not backing the police in London, according to the Conservative candidate for London Mayor Shaun Bailey. Speaking on talkRADIO, Mr Bailey warned that London could see a “summer of crime” if police cannot get illegal street parties under control. Host Julia Hartley-Brewer echoed this, saying “the sight of the police running away and running scared is intolerable”.

The comments follow a series of illegal street parties across the country in recent days have turned violent and ended in clashes with police…”

  6. Glasgow attack: Police cordon off Argyle Street after victim ‘covered in blood screaming (express, Jun 28, 2020)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1302157/Glasgow-attack-stabbing-Argyle-Street-latest-police-crime-news-Scotland

“POLICE have cordoned off a street in central Glasgow after a man was seen “covered in blood and screaming”, according to reports.

Several police vans and cars are parked outside a pub on Argyle Street. A video posted on Twitter showes a pair of shoes and blood on a footpath. Officers were seen standing outside Traders Bar on the corner of James Watt Street.

Police tape extends across the street’s junction with Argyle Street, covering the entrance to the Premier Inn.

A witness told The Glasgow Times he heard “loads of screaming” before seeing a man lying on the ground.

He said the man appeared to be covered in blood.

He told the newspaper: “Literally just happened, was loads of screaming and guy is on the ground with blood all over him.

“Looked like the guy came out of the Premier Inn hotel.”

He added: “The guy’s shoes and a load of blood still on the pavement.”

A photo posted online appears to show a person lying on the pavement outside Traders.

A police officer can be seen standing next to the person.

The police cordon thrown up on Sunday afternoon is less than a mile from the hotel where six people were stabbed last week.

On Saturday police named the man shot by officers during Friday’s attack at the Park Inn Hotel in West George Street as Badreddin Abadlla Adam, 28, from Sudan.

In a statement on Twitter, Police Scotland said the identity is “based on information the deceased provided to the Home Office earlier this year”.

A police officer was among the six people who were injured in the attack.

Constable David Whyte, 42, thanked his colleagues for saving lives.

Three of the other people who were injured are asylum seekers, Police Scotland said, while two are members of staff.

    More to follow…”

    • Some of this doesn’t really mean anything. Twitter needs your number as well. And I dont see how just having your number lets them harvest your whole contact list from your phone. They don’t explain that and I do not believe that is possible. MAYBE if you use thier app, but modern versions of android make you sign off on permissions like that. The Parler app did not require any special permissions.

The problem I have is the notifications make no sense. There is always like 100 of them and they so far have ever had only ONE that related to anything concerning my account. Someone upvoted something. Ok. But the rest are just a feed slightly different than the main page of Parler feed of people I subscribe to.

That is really annoying. And nearly enough to make me jump ship alone.

Some of the other issues on that thread are philosophical rather than any kind of expose. The idea that its a bubble for conservatives, safely walled in so it cant influence anyone, yeah I think thats true.

But thats the nature of any platform that will allow conservative thought. People who think that way will go there and inform each other. Its up to us to try and spread what we know outside that bubble. I don’t see a way around that at all since Twitter, YT and FB are run by varying degrees of actual Marxists.

      • Eeyore,

Did not know that about twitter. I haven’t done the whole social thing since 2008ish. Never with twit.

        • All Social Media is now run by Marxists. The only answer is distributed systems. Blockchain based platforms where anyone can make a node and people can join other nodes etc. but there is no top down authority. Mastodon is one of these systems. But they are not that user freindly.

Antifa is way far advanced on this sort of tech. They have methods of connecting and sharing info and videos etc. which cannot be taken down and are pretty much bulletproof till Quantum computers are available to people who want to weaponize them. Which I think will be in about 6 months.

But QC aside, we need to find an engineer capable of setting up something like this and then a salesperson, in a positive sense, who can make it user friendly enough that anyone can just select which node they want from a menu and sign up and connect with everyone on every node.

This is being looked at by people we know.

  11. ‘Recovered’ COVID-19 patients suffer major ongoing physical, cognitive problems

As coronavirus patients recover from the illness, doctors and patients are discovering that COVID-19 is leaving the “recovered” with long-term debilitating physical, cognitive and psychiatric damage, sometimes even in people who only suffered mild symptoms.

Patients are suffering from phantom pains, memory loss, personality changes, psychological issues and extreme fatigue, along with lungs that won’t heal, even months after being discharged from hospital, according to an investigation by Israel’s Channel 12 TV.

Israel has recorded just over 20,000 COVID-19 cases, with some 300 fatalities. More than 15,500 patients confirmed with the disease have subsequently recovered, but the TV report highlighted numerous cases of patients no longer testing positive for the disease who are suffering a range of major ailments attributed to the virus.

Afik Suissa, 24, was one of Israel’s youngest patients to be hospitalized and ventilated in serious condition…

He eventually recovered and was discharged from the hospital last month. But he has since developed several issues, including phantom pains in one leg that require him to have physical therapy.

    “The nerve in my foot is sending messages of pain to the brain,” he said in the TV report Friday night. “It causes me to limp because I feel that there is a wound there,” he said, even though there is no discernible injury. He also has an altered sense of taste. He also feels that he has had a change in personality.;

Maizie Avihayil, 63, was one of first people in Israel to be to be diagnosed with the virus. She was released from the hospital more than two months ago but now suffers speech problems that resemble the effects of a mild stroke.…

Dr. Itzik Levy, an expert in infectious diseases at the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Aviv, said he believes these problems are caused by the effects of the virus on the brain.

“We know that corona causes disruptions in the blood vessels and in clotting, and so it can cause brain trauma, even mild forms, that you won’t even see on a scan, that won’t show up as a stroke or something … But it can be manifested as cognitive disruptions, or in some cases as changes in personality… We don’t really know if it is reversible or not, or how long will it last…”

Other common effects being discovered are severe fatigue and memory loss, even in those who had very mild symptoms…

“We are used to seeing pneumonia patients recovering at a certain rate, from day to day they get better,” said Dr. Amir Onn, head of the Pulmonology Department at Sheba Medical Center. “Here we are seeing people at a status quo: They are stuck in a situation where they can’t do what they could previously.”

Noting that reports from China showed that some patients ultimately need lung transplants, Onn added, “We are talking about a disease that we have no idea how it behaves.”

    https://www.timesofisrael.com/recovered-covid-19-patients-suffer-major-ongoing-physical-cognitive-problems/

    • This has been known for a while know. It was confirmed by a friend of mine who recovered from corona. He couldn’t work for a month or so, constant fatigue.

This article seems to describe longer-lasting effects though. I wonder if it may have something to do with ventilating. Patients are put in an artificial coma for that, because otherwise it’d be too painful. Those drugs may have long-lasting neurological effects.

      • Ventilators are WAY over used. Induced-coma deficits, scarred lung tissue, etc. Quite a toll.

Coronavirus opened the way for a medical free-for-all. Human lab rats got everything thrown at them. This will go down in history as a cautionary tale: What NOT to do.

It has features of autoimmune disorders rather than a virus it may resemble symptomatically, like influenza. Interrelationships exist, like chickenpox virus predisposes to shingles.

MS (autoimmune) is thought to be triggered by an asymptomatic virus contracted before age 15 in people who are genetically susceptible. But what virus? Who’s susceptible?

Confusing coronavirus with flu has been a costly mistake. A short circuit in medical practice. We’re learning more. Treatment options are improving by leaps and bounds. That’s the near-term good news, NOT vaccine.

        • With the rate of mutation that is being reported (not necessarily true given the other “disinformation” spread lately) a vaccine may never be developed.

          • It’s a long, long shot.

In 5-15 years they MAY develop seasonal vaccines that are formulated to reduce the virility of the current, prevalent strains.

Lotsa money is going into scam research right now. It’s stockmarket fraud, and crazy stuff that drives paranoia.

  12. Spain: Vox demo in defence of Barcelona”s Columbus monument met with counter-protest

Far-right Vox party and National Identity Front protesters gathered at Barcelona’s Columbus monument on Saturday, where there demonstration in support of the structure was met with counter-protests.

“We are here because we defend Spain, we are here because we defend the Hispanity,” Vox Barcelona President Joan Garriga stated amid protesters holding Spanish and Catalan flags.

The demonstrators tried also tried to form a human chain around the monument but did not appear to have enough people to do so.

Police initially prevented anti-fascist counter-protesters from interrupting the demo at the monument, although a small group of LGBTQ activists reached the monument after the demo was over and were met with homophobic slurs as officers quickly stepped in to separate the two groups.

“To me, Columbus monument represents white supremacy, so far it is a [white supremacy] symbol. They even have it in Spanish passports,” LGBTQ protester Alfre said, referring to the 132 old 60 m (197 ft) tall monument erected to honour Columbus’ first trip to the Americas.

“We could not get to the protest because before we could arrive, the police held us back, identified us, searched us,” anti-fascist protester Natalia said. “We had to stay on the wall, quiet, we could not make a call, nor contact a lawyer.”

Barcelona’s Mayor Ada Colau has come out against removing the monument to the Italian navigator, as called for by some groups, proposing instead that a plaque be added to explain the whole story of colonialism and its full context.

  13. Birmingham University’s Prof. Rebecca Gould seems to identify as Jewish only when criticising efforts to fight antisemitism

A professor at the University of Birmingham is on record claiming both that she is Jewish and also that she is not Jewish.

Prof. Rebecca Gould, who previously taught at the University of Bristol, was one of numerous signatories to a letter calling on the German Government not to equate the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement with antisemitism. The signatories to the May 2019 letter all described themselves as “Jewish and Israeli scholars”.

Meanwhile, in a 2019 academic article titled ‘The Palestine Exception to Academic Freedom’, which she co-authored with fellow academic Malaka Shwaikh, Prof. Gould said: “I am not Jewish according to any widely accepted definition”.

Prof. Gould went on in that article to explain: “On my father’s side, I am of Jewish descent. My father’s ancestors were born in Lodz, in what was then the Pale of Settlement within the Russian empire and is now a part of Poland. They migrated to Australia in the nineteenth century, in search of new opportunities, before arriving in the US, where they became perfect capitalists, converted to Catholicism, and changed their name from the Jewish Goldstein to the gentile Gould to improve their economic prospects. Such is the extent of my ancestral link to Judaism.”

The discrepancy in Prof. Gould’s biography was brought to the attention of Campaign Against Antisemitism by a concerned member of the academic community. Prof. Gould has not responded to our request for comment.

Prof. Gould is apparently prepared to identify herself as Jewish in order to try to lend authority to a matter that impacts the Jewish community (an overwhelming majority of British Jews, for example, feel intimidated by tactics used to boycott Israel) but is much less certain of her Jewish identity on other occasions.

    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/202006281079741454-kurdish-militia-groups-say-turkey-establishing-military-bases-in-northern-iraq-reports-claim/

“Kurdish militia groups have accused Turkey of establishing military bases in northern Iraq as part of Ankara’s ongoing offensive against the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), the Al Arabiya broadcaster reports on Sunday.

According to a militia group spokesman, Turkish troops have already moved up to 25 miles into Iraqi territory as part of Operation Claw-Tiger, the broadcaster reported.

The militia considers the Turkish encroachment to be a violation of Iraqi sovereignty, the broadcaster said, citing the spokesman.

On Friday, the Turkish National Defence Ministry reported that one of the country’s soldiers died in clashes with PKK troops in northern Iraq. Additional Turkish special forces soldiers were deployed to the region on 21 June.

Ankara has designated the PKK a terrorist organisation and launched the Anti-Kurdish offensive in mid-June. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry has twice handed a note of protest to the Turkish ambassador over what Baghdad considers to be violations of the country’s sovereignty. “

This comes as the Met Police have struggled to contain a wave of violence across London in the last few weeks.

A huge fight erupted in south London on Saturday afternoon after a large group of men were spotted carrying knives.

Two men were injured in the brawl, with another being treated in hospital for a knife wound.

A total of six people were arrested by the police.

The fight took place at 3.45 pm and a Section 60 order was then issued by police – this gives the officers the right to search people in the area.

A statement said: “Officers, including armed officers, and London Ambulance Service attended.

“One man, aged in his 20s, was found suffering a knife injury to the arm – he has been taken to hospital where he remains. His condition is not life-threatening.

“A second man, also aged in his 20s, suffered minor injuries.

“A total of six people – no further details – have been arrested on suspicion of GBH and remain in custody.
“Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing.

“A section 60 has been put in place for the areas of Woolwich Common and Riverside, Charlton, Glyndon and Peninsula until 07:00hrs on Sunday, 28 June.

“Anyone with information that could assist police is asked to call 101 or tweet…”

sky news – Glasgow attack: Knifeman pictured as family say they are ‘shocked’

A friend of Badreddin Abadlla Adam claims he was “miserable” and suffering from “mental issues”.

His family are “shocked” at his actions and hope the injured will be back with their families soon, a friend called Almadi told Sky News.

Such an attack is not the “mentality” and “moral nature” of Adam’s community in Sudan, Almadi added.

Adam had been “miserable” and was suffering from “mental issues” and health problems, he said.

Almadi claimed Adam had been treated “improperly” at the hotel and the food was of “bad quality”, causing Adam to suffer “abdominal disturbances” and “vomit every time”.

Adam was also kept in his room for a whole month, Almadi said, badly affecting his mental health.

Almadi saw Adam a week before the incident, when he was “so sad” and appeared to have a “lot of things he wanted to talk about”.

But Almadi said he had no idea that Adam might have been planning an attack, saying he was “smiling” and “very peaceful”.

However, Almadi said he heard that Adam had asked a friend at the hotel, on Thursday at 11pm, whether he could stab certain people who were causing him trouble. Almadi said he did not know who those people were.

[…]Adam arrived in the UK seven months ago, staying initially in Northern Ireland before being moved to Glasgow, and had been at the hotel for three months, Almadi said.

The Mears Group, which is contracted by the Home Office to provide housing and support services to asylum seekers in Scotland, said it was “deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic events in the heart of Glasgow”.[…]

  19. A different dialogue in the Middle East

A virtual meeting was held this week with Sheikh Ali al-Obeidi, the head of the Bedouin tribes in Iraq and Syria, and the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs. Al-Obeidi had written to Jerusalem Center President Dore Gold, saying, “We want to join our hands with yours in order to create for our people and upcoming generations a future where we will live in peace and love as allies.”

He said that he wants to reach a strategic alliance with Israel and hopes to reach a peace agreement between Iraq, Syria, and Israel and establish full political and economic relations.

The sheikh stated that his goal, together with Israel, is to expel Iranians from Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq. He added, “We are ready to go to Jerusalem to visit you and make a new history for the Middle East.”

  21. NYT Finds Themselves in a Blunder Over Their Botched Russia-Taliban Story

Members of the American intelligence community have concluded that members of the Russian intelligence unit offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants if they successfully killed members of the American military, the New York Times reported. The problem, however, is that almost everyone involved in this story says it isn’t true. The White House, Russia and even the Taliban have said the Times’ story is false.

According to the anonymous source that spoke to the Times, the Russians intending “to destabilize the West or take revenge on turncoats, had covertly offered rewards for successful attacks last year.”

The source claimed that President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence were briefed on the situation and the National Security Council discussed it back in March.

Dmitry Peskov, the Press Secretary for Russian President Vladimir Putin, said the country had no diplomatic complaints on record.

“If someone makes them, we’ll respond,” Peskov told the Times.

In the Times’ piece, the Taliban’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said the terrorist organization had no “such relations with any intelligence agency.” He labeled the accusation as an attempt to “defame” the group.

“These kinds of deals with the Russian intelligence agency are baseless — our target killings and assassinations were ongoing in years before, and we did it on our own resources,” Mujahid explained. “That changed after our deal with the Americans, and their lives are secure and we don’t attack them.”

The most telling part of the article included absolutely zero details:

The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the delicate intelligence and internal deliberations. They said the intelligence had been treated as a closely held secret, but the administration expanded briefings about it this week — including sharing information about it with the British government, whose forces are among those said to have been targeted.

The intelligence assessment is said to be based at least in part on interrogations of captured Afghan militants and criminals. The officials did not describe the mechanics of the Russian operation, such as how targets were picked or how money changed hands. It is also not clear whether Russian operatives had deployed inside Afghanistan or met with their Taliban counterparts elsewhere.

So this information is based on an anonymous source yet there are no details about how the operation took place, what American troops were targeted, how meetings were conducted or even how the Taliban received their so-called payments. Why are there no details?

According to the president, he, the vice president and the chief of staff were never briefed about this operation. Trump labeled the story as “fake news”

Director of National Intelligence, John Ratcliffe, said he confirmed that Trump and Pence weren’t briefed on the allegations.

Former Acting DNI Director Ric Grenell slammed the attempted spin.

The Russian Embassy in the United States also denied the story.

Earlier this year the United States and the Taliban were in peace talks. American troops were supposed to be scaled back in Afghanistan, if the Taliban committed to a long-term ceasefire if violence reduction requirements were met. Talks stalled because of the Taliban’s multiple attacks on the American military.

    • Nancy Pelosi: Nationwide Mask Requirement Is ‘Long Overdue’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said a nationwide requirement to wear face masks is “long overdue” during a Sunday appearance on ABC’s “This Week.”

The wearing of face masks as an attempt to control the spread of coronavirus has become a hotly debated issue of late with Democrats tending to be in favor of mandatory masking and many Republicans taking the position that such a policy is an unenforceable governmental overreach.

Earlier this week, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said he would issue an executive order that would require all Americans to wear face masks.

“Is it time to mandate the wearing of masks across the country?” ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos asked Pelosi.

“Oh, it’s definitely long overdue for that,” Pelosi responded. “And my understanding is that the Centers for Disease Control has recommended the use of masks but not required it because they don’t want offend the president.”

“The president should be an example,” she continued. “You know, real men wear masks. Be an example to the country and wear the mask, it’s not about protecting yourself it’s about protecting others and their families.”

      • Sounds way to unprofessional for Putin and Company, they might want to do something like this but would take great pains to ensure that there were nothing to lead back to them.

  23. UK – Reading stabbings: Vigil held in memory of victims one week on from terror attack

The mayor of Reading has said the town’s community “shall not be divided” by the recent terror attack at a vigil held in memory of the victims one week on.

Cllr David Stevens said the Berkshire town would always be “inclusive and diverse”at a private memorial event held in Market Place on Saturday evening.

David Wails, 49, Joseph Ritchie-Bennett, 39, and James Furlong, 36, lost their lives after the incident in Forbury Gardens that took place shortly before 7pm on June 20.

Following short speeches by local officials, family members of the three men were the first to lit candles in their memory.

Afterwards, the small group of relatives embraced in a huddle for a few moments, before speaking and laughing together.

Home Secretary Priti Patel joined a host of representatives from the Reading community in also lighting candles.

  24. Will Kurdish Unity Talks Lead to a More Muscular US Policy on Syria?

The news of Kurdish unity talks in Syria, announced in mid-April, raised the question of a shift in US strategy toward the country. The talks had been going on clandestinely for months prior to the announcement that US special adviser to the global coalition forces William Roebuck was taking an active role in backing the talks.

This is not the first time the rival Kurdish parties have tried to patch up their differences. Similar talks were attempted between the PYD, known for its ideological affiliation with Turkey’s banned Workers’ Party, the PKK, and the Kurdish National Council, with the mediation of Iraq’s Massoud Barzani and his Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

Those talks failed, and despite the US commitment to help the Kurdish political rivals overcome their differences, many challenges lie ahead. Kurdish politics in general are fragmented and fraught with tensions. Recall, for example, the sharp division between the KDP-led Kurdish Regional Government and the more Iran-oriented party once run by former President of Iraq Jalal Talabani, the PUK. The PUK essentially stabbed the KRG in the back in Kirkuk shortly after the secession referendum, allowing Iraqi forces coupled with Iran-backed Shiite militias to take over the Kurdish-held oil-rich province and essentially crush Kurdish hopes for independence from Iraq for the foreseeable future. The divide between the PYD and the KNC is no less deep. The PYD accuses the KNC of backing Turkey, and the KNC accuses the PYD of being pro-Assad.

  25. Trump Executive Order Strips Federal Funding From Cities Who Fail To Protect Federal Monuments

President Donald Trump announced late Friday that his administration would be enforcing federal provisions demanding that cities and states protect monuments paid for by the federal government and threatening those who pull down monuments with “long prison time.”

Trump tweeted about the executive order on Saturday, calling it a “strong” response to efforts, across the country, to pull down monuments deemed “racist” or “controversial.”

“I just had the privilege of signing a very strong Executive Order protecting American Monuments, Memorials, and Statues – and combatting recent Criminal Violence. Long prison terms for these lawless acts against our Great Country!” Trump tweeted.

As the Daily Wire reported on Sunday, Trump also tweeted out a list of fifteen individuals wanted for attempting to pull down the monument of President Andrew Jackson that stands in Lafayette Square Park near the White House.

Desecrating federal monuments is already illegal, but the executive order adds some wrinkles to existing law, including providing cities and states with additional funding and support to protect targeted monuments, and threatening those municipalities that fail to keep protesters from felling statues with a loss of federal funding.

“The new order enforces laws prohibiting the desecration of public monuments, the vandalism of government property, and recent acts of violence, withholds federal support tied to public spaces from state and local governments that have failed to protect public monuments, and withdraws federal grants for jurisdictions and law enforcement agencies that fail to stop their desecration,” Fox News reported Saturday.

Attorney General Bill Barr has also authorized a special Department of Justice task force to “share information with local and state law enforcement and [] provide training on identifying anti-government extremists, according to an internal Justice Department memo,” per Fox News.

Several major cities have had problems with protesters targeting, tagging, defacing, and even toppling monuments. Although the craze began with demonstrations targeting monuments to the Confederacy, many of them erected well after the Civil War ended, the movement has since experienced a significant mission creep and is now targeting monuments to past presidents, Catholic missionaries, and even abolitionist figures.

In a particularly heated confrontation Saturday, protesters tried to topple a statue of Abraham Lincoln, paid for by former slaves, and celebrating the Emancipation Proclamation. The demonstrators were eventually dispersed.

Several individuals have been arrested in connection with efforts to topple monuments, including six people who desecrated a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee, according to CNN. On Sunday, Trump also noted that “many” people are now in custody for defacing federal monuments, though he did not specify where.

“MANY people in custody, with many others being sought for Vandalization of Federal Property in Lafayette Park. 10 year prison sentences!” he said, ahead of a list of 15 “wanted” individuals.

“These arsonists, anarchists, looters, and agitators have been largely stopped,” Trump tweeted. “I am doing what is necessary to keep our communities safe — and these people will be brought to Justice!”
