Reader’s Links for June 2, 2020

Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. I wrote a long thing this morning then deleted it. I realized what I wrote had gone stale even before the ink dried. Happens more frequently, now. Reality in our time is a tricky little squirrel.

    • Just wait things look to get a whole lot worse, the left is starting to move into the kinetic revolution stage and this is going to spread. Slowly at first but eventual it will make wild fire look slow.

      • Calif Gov and Trump were having a good relationship over Covid; Newsome called in the Guard.

Trump and Cuomo disagreed on Covid. DeB says our cops can handle this. He gets a twofer if Cuomo refuses to call in the Guard: no more police; wealth re-distribution. At what point will Trump tire of seeing his City ruined and send in the Feds without a State request?

My money is on Trump visiting a Church in the burned out City after Cuomo’s elected replacement asks for the Guard. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=recall+cuomo&t=hk&ia=web

        • In situations like this the President can nationalize the Guard and order them to take control only after there is a total breakdown in both the State and Local Government. This means that the city and State are going to have to be massive hell holes before he can act.

Remember the Constitution limits what the Federal Government can do and the Federalist system spells out who is responsible for solving the problems. Until they can prove that the riots are a coordinated multi-state conspiracy or the locals ask for Federal Help the Feds are limited to offering, I say again offering material and personal to help out. All of the above use to be taught in High Schools until the left stopped teaching civics. It was taught in your last year of High School with the Constitution being taught one semester and the State Constitution the other semester. We had to pass both classes with a C or higher or we didn’t graduate from High School.

  3. Israel: school outbreaks
    Cluster: high schools in Israel
There is currently, as of [31 May 2020], a cluster of 160 COVID-19 cases in the Gymnasium High School in Jerusalem started by a super spreader faculty member. 125 of these cases are students. The school closed last week with mass testing of students and staff underway.…

On [19 May 2020], due to a severe heatwave, the government relaxed the mask wearing requirement in schools, outdoors, and in non-air conditioned buildings during the heatwave only (heatwave ended on [22 May 2020]). The details of who did not have to wear a mask were not well understood by the public, nor when the temporary reprieve expired.

Confirmation of COVID-19 in Pet Dog in New York

Washington, D.C., June 2, 2020 – The United States Department of Agriculture’s National Veterinary Services Laboratories today announced the first confirmed case of SARS-CoV-2 infection in a pet dog (German shepherd) in New York state. This is the first dog in the United States to test positive for SARS-CoV-2.

Samples from the dog were taken after it showed signs of respiratory illness. The dog is expected to make a full recovery. One of the dog’s owners tested positive for COVID-19, and another showed symptoms consistent with the virus, prior to the dog showing signs. A second dog in the household has shown no signs of illness; however, antibodies were also identified in that dog, suggesting exposure.…

Notice of Retraction: Effectiveness of Surgical and Cotton Masks in Blocking SARS-CoV-2

According to recommendations by the editors of Annals of Internal Medicine, we are retracting our article, “Effectiveness of Surgical and Cotton Masks in Blocking SARS-CoV-2. A Controlled Comparison in 4 Patients,” which was published on Annals.org on 6 April 2020 (1).

We had not fully recognized the concept of limit of detection (LOD) of the in-house reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction used in the study (2.63 log copies/mL), and we regret our failure to express the values below LOD as “<LOD (value).” The LOD is a statistical measure of the lowest quantity of the analyte that can be distinguished from the absence of that analyte. Therefore, values below the LOD are unreliable and our findings are uninterpretable.…
