Reader’s Links for May 31st 2020

Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. We went to check on the cottage yesterday. It was a beautiful day and a nice break from the unseasonable heat. It is also nice to take a short respite from the news.

Ever since I started advertising that I’d placed hidden surveillance cameras around the property did the break-ins stop. (Knock on wood.) I’ve got those cameras up that hunters use. They’re camouflaged and you strap them to a tree. They are triggered by motion day or night. I have many photos of deer, moose, bears, jack rabbits, and even some big bird swooping in for a kill. But no human trespassers.

Springtime, though, is fly season. The season ends with sand flies in July. Before that you get horse flies. These bad boys can haul away a small dog. Before horse flies you get deer flies. But before deer flies–now–you get black flies.

Black flies swarm you. They go in your eyes, ears, and mouth. They go down your shirt, down your pants and up your sleeves. They are smaller than a house fly but will make you bleed when they bite. There are so many of them they are very hard to protect against. You can flail and swing but their numbers overwhelm. All you can do is find refuge indoors, or leave the area. In terms of getting away from the chaos of the daily tangle, black flies matter.

Candace Owens is my daughter’s favourite. She says white liberals are behind the riots. I think she’s right and wrong on this. If so many blacks weren’t so gullible, and so ready to blame others, and so willing to resort to crimes such as looting, then she’d be right. But if you back up the truck a bit to acknowledge that a fatherless 14-year-old boy, black or white, is easier to incite to riot than a kid from a nuclear family, then the black community’s failings are complicit. In fact, if the Democrats never had the black population to exploit for political ends they would have been missing the primary fodder for most of their success.
    A sympathizer writes: https://infed.org/mobi/saul-alinsky-community-organizing-and-rules-for-radicals/

Community organizers move both volunteers and paid recruits where needed. They even bus them across state lines. This is nothing but the American brand of communism playing out. The sympathizer I’ve included above is successful because he chooses his words carefully like a predatory educator sucking in curious, misguided souls. Ultimately it presents itself as religion, absolving the new convert of moral responsibility for his actions. Remove the conscience and you’ve got yourself a weapon.

PT and Barr have made a move to inhibit this interstate transfer of resources. They get it. This is a civil war with tacticians on both sides. PT is also trying inhibit the information supply lines by cauterizing social media.

Our leaders understand the asymmetrical warfare being waged. Cut off the information supply lines. Dig into the white and Chinese communist money behind the organizing and subversion, and cut it off. Kick out every Chinese “student” spy. Root out the red. War is war, be it asymmetrical or conventional.

The worst thing to do is to underestimate what is going on and to not act accordingly. If these counterpunches are not thrown we’ll see an acceleration of domestic migration to red states by good people, but at the expense of the country.

    • An old native man told me years ago when the black flies come out don’t eat bananas, don’t shower in the morning, shower at night if you must. Never were deodorant, perfume, you do not want to smell pretty. He said old bush men shower rarely, it is better to not smell too good. LOL

I wear long pants tucked into my socks, long tops with long sleeves and a bug hat with netting and I pray for a hot spell so they will all die off.

The bears don’t want to have anything to do with me, the deer flies love me as do the horse flies but I eat a lot of garlic, it helps to keep them and 2 legged monsters away.

  8. Sidelined and Ignored: U.N. Laments Its Inability to Achieve Anything on World Stage (breitbart, May 31, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/05/31/sidelined-and-ignored-u-n-laments-its-inability-to-achieve-anything-on-world-stage/

“As the world grapples with the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, ongoing turmoil in the Middle East and Beijing’s brutal interventions in Hong Kong, the organization once charged with offering solutions to such problems is sidelined with nobody listening to its calls for “peace, harmony and global unity.”

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has bemoaned a “lack of leadership” during the world’s worst series of crises since 1945. “Where we see power, we sometimes do not see the necessary leadership,” he said recently.

AFP reports even after more than two months of negotiations, the 15 Security Council members are still unable to reach agreement on a resolution supporting a call from Gutteres for a global cease-fire while the world battles the Chinese coronavirus.

At the U.N., there is a sense the globalist body is drifting and dysfunctional, even as it continues to plead for more money to fund its operations:

“In the past, when you had disagreements among members of the Council, it was compartmentalized,” said a U.N. official, speaking on grounds of anonymity to AFP. “So your adversary one day on a particular issue was your best ally the next day on another issue. What we see now is everything spilling over.

“So there are camps, or there are disagreements which just spill over from one issue to another,” the official said, clearly alluding to the situation in Hong Kong, where tough new Chinese security legislation has pitted the two leading permanent members of the U.N. against each other.

“The tensions between the U.S. and China are really problematic” for the world body, meaning the Security Council is “not able to move forward on a range of things,” the official added.

At a press conference Thursday, Guterres expressed his regret the coronavirus pandemic had not evoked a greater sense of unity from world powers.

“If the present crisis shows something, it is our fragility. Collective fragility. When we are fragile, we should be humble. When we are humble, we should be united and in solidarity,” he said, in remarks directed to members of the Security Council.

As Breitbart News reported, Guterres has been working for months to secure a global ceasefire to enable countries to stop the spread of the virus that first appeared in the Chinese city of Wuhan late last year.

Oxfam International is just one global charity to register its frustration with the U.N.’s impotence, publishing a report saying the globalist cause has been totally ignored.

The cease-fire remains unattained due to the Security Council’s “diplomatic failure” to collectively broker a resolution amid the deadlock, the Oxfam report observed, and its absence is expatriated by years of investment in peace-building and countries continuing to sell weapons for use in war-torn regions.

“We expect leadership from the council as well as many of those countries who say they support a cease-fire, but who nevertheless remain active participants in conflicts around the world conducting military operations, selling arms and supporting third parties,” Oxfam Interim Executive Director Jose Maria Vera said in a statement.

The U.N. recently called for $2 billion to be transferred from wealthy countries to the poor via the globalist body as an aid in tackling the global pandemic which fell short.

The slim financial response prompted another call for funds last month, lifting the target to $6.7 billion to accommodate the U.N.’s all new, specially updated global plan to counter the viral epidemic.

Trouble is, nobody is listening to a word the U.N. says, even as it burns through those member financial contributions and a yearly budget of $3,073,830,500 it approved for itself to cover the year 2020.”

  9. EU Tells Trump to Reverse WHO Termination: ‘WHO Needs to Continue Being Able to Lead’ (breitbart, May 31, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/05/31/eu-tells-trump-to-reverse-who-termination-who-needs-to-continue-being-able-to-lead/

“The European Union on Saturday urged President Donald Trump to rethink his decision to terminate the U.S. relationship with the World Health Organization as spiking infection rates in India and elsewhere reinforced that the pandemic is far from contained.

Trump on Friday charged that the WHO didn’t respond adequately to the pandemic and accused the U.N. agency of being under China’s “total control.”

The U.S. is the largest source of financial support for the WHO, and its exit is expected to significantly weaken the organization. Trump said the U.S. would be “redirecting” the money to “other worldwide and deserving urgent global public health needs,” without providing specifics.

The head of the EU’s executive arm urged Trump to reconsider. “The WHO needs to continue being able to lead the international response to pandemics, current and future,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said. “For this, the participation and support of all is required and very much needed.”

The WHO wouldn’t comment on the announcement but South African Health Minister Zweli Mkhize called it an “unfortunate” turn of events.

“Certainly, when faced with a serious pandemic, you want all nations in the world to be particularly focused … on one common enemy,” he told reporters.”

  10. French Police Arrest 20 After Molotov Attack on Firemen (breitbart, May 31, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/05/31/french-police-arrest-20-after-molotov-attack-firemen/

“Police in the French city of Strasbourg arrested 20 individuals in the district of Neuhof after a mob attacked firemen with projectiles that included Molotov cocktails.

The attack took place on Tuesday at around 11 p.m. after it was reported that litter and wooden pallets were on fire in the area. When the firefighters began to tackle the blaze, they were ambushed by a mob of young men armed with projectiles.

Sylvain André, departmental delegate of the Alternative police-CFDT 67 union, reacted to the incident, saying: “The firefighters are called for any fire, often caused intentionally by thugs.”

He said their objective was to attack and terrify the firemen, franceinfo reported on Thursday.

Sullivan Mootooveeren, president of the autonomous firefighters union of Bas-Rhin, went on to add that a Molotov cocktail landed on one of the firemen, saying: “Fortunately, the cocktail went out when it arrived at the firefighter. But my colleague found himself soaked in petrol. He was shocked and filed a complaint.”

The 20 who were arrested were mainly teens between the ages of 13 to 16, with a smaller number of adults aged between 20 and 30 who are said to have been directing the attack.

The attacks come around a month after Strasbourg, along with several other cities across France, saw rioting and attacks on police and other emergency services following an incident between police and a local youth in the Paris suburb of Villeneuve-la-Garenne.

In Strasbourg, local youths in the district of Meinau attempted to burn down a building containing a police station by throwing Molotov cocktails at the structure.

The city was also one of the main hubs for car burning attacks over New Year’s Eve, with 220 vehicles set on fire, double the number from the previous year.”

  11. Italian Court Sentences Foreign People-Smugglers to 20 Years for Torture (breitbart, May 31, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/05/31/italian-court-sentences-foreign-people-smugglers-to-20-years-for-torture/

“An Italian court has sentenced three foreign people-smugglers to 20 years each after they were found guilty of torturing migrants who were attempting to cross the Mediterranean.

The three men, 27-year-old Guinean Mohammed Conde, 26-year-old Egyptian Hameda Ahmed, and 24-year-old Egyptian Mahmoud Ashuia, were found guilty of belonging to a criminal organisation that engaged in human trafficking, torture, sexual violence, murder, and extortionary kidnapping.

According to testimony and evidence presented in court, the three men are said to have tortured and beaten migrants aboard boats in the Mediterranean as well as in a prison on the Libyan mainland, Italian newspaper Gazzetta del Sud reports.

The three men were arrested last year in August in the Sicilian city of Messina following a joint investigation into their people-smuggling activities by law enforcement in Messina and Palermo.

They were also linked to the landing of 59 migrants on the island of Lampedusa on the 5th and 7th of July in 2019, aboard a vessel operated by the left-wing Italian migrant transport NGO Mediterranea Saving Humans.

The NGO has had trouble in the past regarding allegations of abetting illegal migration, with its head Luca Casarini interrogated by Italian officials last year when populist League leader Matteo Salvini served as the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior.

Over the last several years, Italy has arrested a number of people-smugglers and disrupted several trafficking networks.

Perhaps the most brutal case of recent years took place in 2016, involving the infamous Eritrean trafficking kingpin Medhanie Yehdego Mered.

Nicknamed “The General”, the man believed to be Mered was arrested in Sudan and extradited to Italy in June of that year. A mobile phone revealed not only acts of torture on migrants but videos and photos of dismembered bodies, murders, and even acts of cannibalism.

In 2019, however, the convicted man was released after a judge concluded that he was in fact Medhanie Tesfamariam Berhe, a much lower level people-smuggler who had been wrongly identified as Mered.

“The General” made millions of euros from not only people-smuggling but also from harvesting and selling the organs of migrants as well.”

    • DAILY MAIL – Thousands of Black Lives Matter activists march on Downing Street and US embassy chanting ‘I can’t breathe!’ and crowds gather in Cardiff and Manchester demanding ‘justice’ for George Floyd killed by police 4,000 miles away in Minneapolis

Chants of, ‘I can’t breathe,’ rebounded across the Thames this afternoon, the words George Floyd was heard gasping before his death as a white police officer knelt on his neck in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Monday

Thousands had earlier gathered at Trafalgar Square before making their way to the gates of Downing Street and then south of the river towards the US Embassy

Meanwhile outside Cardiff Castle in Wales protesters were seen holding placards saying, ‘The UK isn’t innocent,’ and in Manchester hundreds were chanting in St. Peter’s Square

They have defied the ban on mass gatherings due to coronavirus to show their solidarity with US citizens

  12. UN Report: 650,000 Migrants Waiting to Leave Libya for Europe (breitbart, May 31, 2020)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/05/31/un-report-650000-migrants-waiting-to-leave-libya-for-europe/

“A United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) report has revealed that as many as 650,000 migrants are currently waiting in Libya, ready to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe.

The report notes that the Chinese coronavirus pandemic could have a major impact on mass migration, but the outbreak has also made such movements increasingly difficult to predict.

“The global crisis caused by the pandemic is unprecedented and it is difficult to predict its impact on human trafficking and migrant smuggling,” the report stated, adding that the severe economic consequences of prolonged lockdowns could fuel a surge of migration from various countries, Il Giornale reports.

The UN report states: “This suggests that the travel and movement restrictions caused by Covid-19 are not stopping the movement of people fleeing conflict, violence and dangerous and inhuman conditions,” and added that Libyan migrants are forced to use the services of people smugglers.

“Information from Libya, where around 650,000 migrants and refugees are currently registered, suggests that the Covid-19 public health crisis has not discouraged people from trying to reach Europe.”

While the number of migrants entering the European Union has decreased overall during the coronavirus outbreak, Italy has seen a surge in new arrivals in recent weeks.

On the long-term impact of the pandemic on mass migration, the UNODC report predicted that “Future economic downturns are likely to have an impact in terms of movements of people to the richer countries.”

Migrants who have arrived in Italy during the coronavirus lockdown have been placed under quarantine aboard vessels off the coast. A report released earlier this month revealed that Italian taxpayers were paying as much as €4,000 per month per migrant in order to maintain the quarantine.

Alessandro Pagano, a member of populist leader Matteo Salvini’s League (Lega), slammed the costs, saying: “We are not talking about a third-hand dinghy, but of a ship equipped with a self-service restaurant, pizzeria, ice cream parlour, pub with special wine assortment, play area and video room, double or quadruple cabins with services and even luxury suites.”

  13. Roadside bomb near Somalia’s capital kills 8 civilians (abcnews, May 31, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/roadside-bomb-somalias-capital-kills-civilians-70979259

“A Somali police officer says at least eight civilians were killed when a minibus hit a roadside bomb outside the capital on Sunday morning.

Abdullahi Ahmed says the minibus hit the bomb in the Hawa Abdi area near Mogadishu.

The death toll may rise because many of the surviving passengers were seriously wounded, Ahmed said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast. However Somalia’s extremist group al-Shabab, which is allied to al-Qaida, has carried out a series of bomb attacks in the area in recent months.”

The Temple Terrace Police Department responded to the woman’s call for help outside Temple Terrace’s City Hall at about 1:15 p.m. Friday.

For reasons unknown to police, the woman, later identified as 21-year-old Heba Momtaz Alazhari, then tried to attack an officer with a large knife.

  15. Minnesota Governor’s Daughter Hope Walz Was Tweeting Out Intel to Violent Looters and Rioters Just Like Ilhan Omar’s Daughter Isra Hirsi

We knew from recent rallies and riots that it’s highly likely the groups behind today’s riots are Domestic terrorists, revolutionary communists, US based radical Islamist organizations and others related to the Democrat Party. Today we have more proof this is the case.

We reported a few days ago that Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar’s daughter tweeted out support for the protestors:

Minnesota Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar’s daughter Isra Hirsi, retweeted a list of supplies for “comrades” who are rioting in Minneapolis.

Isra Hirsi is the co-founder of US Youth Climate Strike and her Twitter bio says she ‘hates capitalism.’

sra Hirsi retweeted a post from Twin Cities DSA (Democratic Socialists of America): Want to help out your comrades protesting at the 3rd precinct (at Lake and Minnehaha?)

Here’s a good list of much needed supplies (except for milk! Water is always better for eyewashing than milk!! Please don’t bring milk!)

Similar tweets supporting the rioters were being tweeted by Minnesota Democrat Governor Tim Walz’s daughter – Hope Walz. She later deleted her account.

This appears to be how Democrats and Islamists are communicating instructions regarding the riots – through their children!

  17. Yaneer’s new thread describes net benefits of testing for Wuhan via both CAT-scan and PCR.
[30% of PCR show FALSE NEGATIVE !!]

“Combining PCR and CT testing for COVID: CT-scans can identify who to isolate to stop transmission much better then PCR.

“WHAT: The usual COVID PCR test has 30% false negatives: one in three is told they don’t have it when they do. They don’t isolate so many more are infected. CT-scans can see viral pneumonia (including COVID) and isolate people. Then, multiple RT-PCR can be used to confirm COVID.

“RESULT: CT-scan compared to PCR by itself reduces cases after 60 days by as much as 50X, reduction of R is 0.20. We can achieve rapid extinction of COVID with social distancing, CT-scans and contact tracing.

“SPEED: PCR test results typically take several days (fast PCR tests have even worse false negative rates). CT-scans take seconds, results can be available within minutes.…”

  19. Whoa! McConnell Threatens House Democrats Over Proxy Voting

It’s time Democrats who control the House get with the program. The United States of America has a system called the Constitution of the United States of America, which was put in place over 200 years ago.

Democrats do not have the right to change that system or tweak it to fit their agendas. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is slamming the Democrats for the way they are conducting, or rather not conducting business.

The House set up a new rule, which they change as they go along, that they are allowing proxy voting in the chamber. Senator Mitch McConnell is outraged and warning the Democrats they may not take any legislation which passes under their new procedure.

  20. Burkina Faso gunmen ‘kill dozens’ at cattle market in Kompienga (BBC, May 31, 2020)
    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-52866945

“Some 30 people have been killed in eastern Burkina Faso in a gun attack on a cattle market, reports say.

Gunmen on motorbikes fired into the crowded market in Kompienga town around lunchtime on Saturday, eyewitnesses and residents said.

It is unclear who was behind the attack, but Burkina Faso has seen a recent sharp rise in jihadist violence and inter-communal clashes.

The violence has forced hundreds of thousands to flee their homes.

Local media earlier reported 20 killed, while quoting sources as saying the death toll could be considerably higher. AFP news agency quoted local residents as saying 30 died.

On Friday at least 15 people were killed when suspected Islamist militants attacked a convoy of traders in the north, near the border with Mali.

The government blamed the attack on “terrorists”, a phrase usually used to describe al-Qaeda and Islamic State-linked jihadists Burkina Faso has been battling in recent years.

Despite occasional government claims of success against the Islamist militants, the insecurity in the north and east of Burkina Faso has dramatically escalated.

Jihadists have often targeted schools, forcing about 300,000 children out of education.”

  21. India expels 2 Pakistani embassy officials on spying charges (abcnews, May 31, 2020
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/india-expels-pakistani-embassy-officials-spying-charges-70983765

“India on Sunday said it caught two Pakistan High Commission officials in the Indian capital spying and ordered them to leave the country within 24 hours.

An Indian External Affairs Ministry statement said a strong protest was lodged with the Pakistan High Commission regarding the activities of its two officials which it said were against India’s national security.

It didn’t say whether the two were holding diplomatic status or were junior officers working in the Pakistani mission.

In Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, the foreign ministry condemned India’s decision about the expulsion of two of its embassy officials. In a statement, it said the two staff members of the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi were lifted by Indian authorities Sunday on false and unsubstantiated charges. “They were, however, released on intervention by the High Commission. We condemn the detention and torture as well as threatening and pressuring of diplomatic officials to accept false charges,” it said.

Pakistan also summoned an Indian diplomat to lodge a strong protest over the move.

India and Pakistan routinely expel each other’s diplomats on spying charges and Pakistan is also expected to respond by expelling Indian High Commission officials in Islamabad in a tit-for-tat action…”

  22. Brennan Lashes Out at President Trump, Encourages Rioting and Looting by Left-Wing Terrorists, ‘Necessary For Real Change’

Former CIA Director and Spygate architect John Brennan lashed out at President Trump Sunday morning amid nationwide looting and rioting by far-left radical terrorists.

Brennan also approved of the nationwide looting and rioting by left-wing terrorists such as ANTIFA, asserting that it’s ‘necessary for real change.’

Violent protests have spread across the nation since a Minneapolis police officer killed a black man named George Floyd on Monday.

Black Lives Matter thugs and Antifa terrorists are using the death of George Floyd as an excuse to destroy businesses and raze buildings to the ground.

  24. Minnesota gov blamed right-wing ‘white supremacists’ for violence — now the truth comes out

Minnesota leaders also claimed the protesters were not local residents

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat, pinned responsibility for the violence in Minneapolis on right-wing “white supremacists” and drug cartels on Saturday. Walz, along with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) and St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter (D), also blamed the violence on out-of-state, professional agitators — not local residents.

New evidence, however, show their claims are not true.

According to KMSP-TV, the “overwhelming majority” of those arrested in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area over the last several days were in-state residents.

  25. Russia Delivers Advanced MiG-29 Fighter Jets to Assad Regime
    https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2310666/russia-delivers-advanced-mig-29-fighter-jets-assad-regime

“Russia has delivered advanced MiG-29 jet fighters to the Assad regime, in a move to reassure Damascus.

The delivery came a day after President Vladimir Putin ordered talks to expand Moscow’s military position in Syria.

Syria’s official news agency SANA, citing a military source, said the new fighter jets were handed over to the Syrian army during a ceremony at Hmeimim airbase in the western coastal province of Latakia on Saturday.

“The warplanes flew from Hmeimim to their deployment areas in Syrian airbases,” the source said.

According to the source, the newly-received fighter jets are “more effective” than their previous generation.

“As of June 1, 2020, Syrian pilots will begin to carry out missions on those planes in Syrian airspace,” the source said.

Putin had asked the defense and foreign ministries to work with Damascus to sign an additional protocol that would expand the Russian military presence in Syria under an agreement signed in 2015.

In other news, the Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act goes into effect in mid-June, taking US sanctions against supporters of the Assad regime in Tehran and Moscow to a whole new level. The bill does not only target Russian efforts to keep the regime in power, but also affects Moscow’s ambitious post-war economic plans in Syria.

In Syria, the public is divided on how to perceive the bill, but many are concerned with its repercussions on the living conditions of Syrians.

Leaders in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (NES), also known as Rojava, believe that the Act will exempt US allies in Syria from the sanctions.”

    https://english.aawsat.com/home/article/2310866/street-named-after-muslim-brotherhood-founder-sparks-uproar-egypt

“A street named after the founder of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, Hassan al-Banna, in Nile Delta city has sparked outrage among the people.

Following a complaint submitted by the residents of Mit Ghamr, officials pledged to rename the street after a police or army martyrs.

Deputy Governor of Dakahlia Haitham El Sheikh confirmed that the name will be changed and a committee will choose the new one.

“The name will be changed as soon as a new one is chosen,” he added. The change will be introduced at all public departments and a new sign will be hung up.

Lawmakers had in October 2018 demanded that the names of Muslim Brotherhood be removed from street signs in the country.

In late 2018, the same issue had sparked crises in the Egypt Delta and Minya governorates. Governors at the time took the necessary measures to rename the streets after martyrs, in response to the people’s demands to remove the Muslim Brotherhood labels.”

“Former Qatari emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani called ex-US President Barack Obama a “slave” and “silly,” according to a leaked audio recording that reportedly captured a conversation between the emir and the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

The recording was released by Qatari opposition activist Khalid Al-Hail, a report in Al-Arabiya English said. However, the report said Al Arabiya English could not verify the authenticity of the recording.

“God curse him… that slave… he is silly. I swear Muammar, he is silly,” the former emir is heard saying about Obama.

A similar recording between Qatar’s former emir and Gaddafi was released in 2017, in which the two attacked Saudi Arabia and the ruling family.

In another recording leaked from the same year, Gaddafi and former prime minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim can reportedly be heard discussing plans to carve up Saudi Arabia.

Hamad Bin Jassim did not deny the recording and said that the issue was discussed to appease Gaddafi.

In 2013, Sheikh Hamad handed over power to his son, current Emir Sheikh Tamim Al-Thani. Hamad Bin Jassim stepped down from his positions in government at the time and reportedly has strained relations with the current emir.

  28. Egypt: Hotels reopened with reduced occupancy are nearly full
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20200531-egypt-hotels-reopened-with-reduced-occupancy-are-nearly-full/

“Egyptian hotels operating with a new reduced occupancy rate of 25 per cent to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus have almost reached full capacity, a tourism ministry official told Reuters today.

Egypt suspended international flights in March and shut down restaurants, hotels and cafes in order to combat the pandemic. Although airports remain closed to all but domestic and repatriation flights, hotels were recently allowed to reopen at a quarter of their usual capacity if they met strict health and safety protocols.

Around 78 hotels, mostly along the Red Sea coast, met these rules and are currently operating with an occupancy rate of 20%-22%, said the ministry official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. An additional 173 hotels across the country have applied for a licence to reopen and will be considered in the coming week, he added.

The government said it aimed to increase the permitted occupancy rate of hotels to 50 per cent in June. Tourism is one of the country’s main sources of foreign currency and accounts for 5 per cent of GDP.

Egypt has so far registered 23,449 cases of the new coronavirus including 913 deaths. Some of the first cases registered in the country were of foreign nationals.”

“The city of Quetta, Pakistan, has seen at least two separate brutal attacks that left two youngsters killed in a matter of a few days and people are taking to social media to express their outrage.

On May 29, a man was lynched to death along with two others sustaining severe injuries in Hazara Town area of the city. They were attacked by an enraged mob comprising of 300 men reportedly.

The reason for the dispute is unclear with some reports stating that it was over money, while social media posts suggest that the men harassed a woman. The posts state that the men who were attacked recorded a video of the woman.

The three attacked by the mob have been identified as Bilal Noorzai, Nayaz and Khalil. Noorzai was killed.

A video allegedly from the site of the incident is doing the rounds on social media. The clip shows police officials at the scene, while others run in panic.

Tweep @imampanezai shared the clip and wrote: “In Hazara Town Quetta, a Hazara mob brutally tortured and killed three youths. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. Policemen are equal partners in this murder. The faces of the accused and the policemen can be clearly seen in the video. #JusticeForBilalNoorzai”

However, some news reports suggest that the police officials were there to help the men, who were attacked, to escape.

    Many arrested
Soon after, social media users took to their accounts to condemn the incident and people demanded that the authorities catch the perpetrators at the earliest.

The family of the deceased staged a protest in Quetta, demanding justice for their son.

Twitter user @jaffar_bazai shared a video of the demonstration and wrote: “The situation will be getting worst if not addressed properly, the sentiments of protesters was on its peak, government must take their responsibility.”

On May 30 it was reported that at least eleven men were arrested for lynching the man to death on the basis of video footage.

    17-year-old stabbed to death
In a separate incident that was brought to light on May 28 by social media users, a teenager named Jibran was killed in Quetta.

It was reported that he was stabbed in the throat and was taken to the hospital but due to a lot of blood loss, he succumbed to his death.

Local news outlets reported that Jibran had gotten involved in a fight against a man who harassed his female friend. However, multiple reasons for the altercation have emerged and no official report has confirmed the details.

A man identified as Hubair Kakar has been named in several social media posts and local news reports as the alleged culprit.

Social media posts claim that Kakar belongs to an influential family and justice is being delayed due to that.

The hashtag #JusticeforJibran trended on twitter.

Tweep @AsmatAgha wrote: “#justiceforjibran My sweet nephew was murdered by Hubair Kakar who belongs to [an] influential family. Jibran is no more with us may his soul RIP but what scares me is that the killer is still roaming like he has done nothing. He should have been behind the bars as soon as possible.”

Spokesperson of the Balochistan Assembly, Liaquat Shahwani has taken notice of the incident and said that the authorities are in the process of catching the culprit…”

  32. Turkey deports 12 Finnish nationals over terror links
    https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkey-deports-12-finnish-nationals-over-terror-links-155221

“Turkey deported 12 terrorists from Finland back to their country of origin, the Interior Ministry said on May 31.

In a statement, the ministry said the fighters were sent back as part of Ankara’s ramped-up efforts to expel foreign terrorists.

Turkey continues to send back foreign terrorist fighters, it added.

The issue of the handling of ISIL members and their families detained in Syria — including foreign members of the banned terror group — has attracted controversy, with Turkey arguing that foreign-born terrorists should be returned to their native lands.

Ankara says that although several European countries have resisted its efforts to send ISIL members back to their countries, it will nevertheless press forward.

Turkey has so far deported at least 7,500 ISIL members, with several of them held up in its prisons.”

  33. 8 Francophone countries get new currency
    https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/8-francophone-countries-get-new-currency-155194

“It is official that the Eco will replace the CFA franc as the new currency for the eight Francophone countries that form the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA).

France’s Council of Ministers officially passed a bill earlier this month that ratified the reform of the monetary agreement that bound the French government to the eight member states.

Doing so brought to a close 75 years of rule by the French Republic in which the states had been compelled to centralize- to deposit- their foreign exchange reserves in the Banque de France, otherwise known as the French Treasury.

Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo will now pool their reserves entirely within the Central Bank of West African States, or BCEAO.

The Eco will remain pegged to the Euro and will be backed by the French Treasury. The euro will guarantee the Eco’s convertibility and stability, with the Treasury remaining as guarantor for all eight UEMOA states.

The Eco will have a fixed exchange rate of 655.957 to the euro.

The CFA franc, or Communaute francaise d’Afrique, has been in use since 1945 and was created in the wake of the weakness of the franc after World War II. Initially tied to the franc, it has been linked to the euro since that currency’s inception.

Although adopting their own currency had been West Africa’s goal for decades, it was last July 1 the UEMOA member countries announced their strong intent to stop using the CFA franc and start using the Eco.

Oddly enough, the Eco is expected to be adopted by member states July 1.

The French government will also withdraw its presence from all West African governing bodies with whom it had been involved, such as the BCEAO.

The Council of Ministers expressed their role would be more guarantor than anything.

“This new position enables us to support the UEMOA in its commitment to pursuing the single currency project of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS),” it said in a statement.

Six other Central African countries who belong to the Central African Economic and Monetary Union (CAEMU) utilize the CFA franc, including the Central African Republic, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and the Republic of Congo.

Only the West African CFA will sever its ties to France. The currencies are interchangeable.

Adopting the Eco currency means only good things for UEMOA member states: It will decrease present trade barriers, reduce the cost of doing business and raise the prosperity of an enormous region with a population of more than 380 million.

France does not make money on its regulation of foreign exchange reserves that member states were compelled to keep but in reality pays an annual interest rate with a ceiling of 0.75% to the two central banks of the region. In fact, France has denied having made any investment in the reserves.

Breaking from the Banque de France also means West Africa is making a break with the past: Each UEMOA country, with the exception of Guinea-Bissau, is a former French colony. Establishing the Eco reduces

France’s influence and ushers out a time of colonial domination.

President Emmanuel Macron and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire have been open to the discussion for, as they called it, “ambitious avenues” in the past. It was during a joint news conference in the Ivory Coast last

Macron, along with Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, disclosed in December that UEMOA member countries would no longer use the CFA.

As the former minister for long-term strategy and public policy evaluation of Togo, and former economic and digital director of the International Organization of LaFrancophone, economist Kako Nubukpo sees the vast long term benefit of a single currency that West Africa can call its own.

“The Eco’s creation process constitutes a true test of the credibility of West Africa’s vision and governance. For France, the process serves instead as a test of its sincerity concerning its willingness to effectively put the CFA franc to rest,” he said.”

“The fear of death has vanished in the Indian-administered Kashmir, shifting the Kashmir movement to a decisive new phase, according to Pakistani philosopher and economist Khurshid Ahmad.

But, he added, the responsibility lies with the leadership in Pakistan and Azad Kashmir to make fruitful gains to the current situation, focusing on the right to self-determination and reaching out to world capitals by lobbying, conferences and campaigns.

Ahmad — the author of several books, including The Contemporary Economic Challenges And Islam, Economic Development in an Islamic Framework, and Fanaticism, Intolerance and Islam — leads Pakistan’s top think tank the Institute of Policy Studies

He insisted that a new research group on Kashmir be established while the scope and role of Kashmir Committee be widened by including advisors, technocrats and Kashmir experts.

In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Ahmad, a former federal minister for planning and a senator in Pakistan, advocated for an international relief fund for Kashmir to help residents in the disputed region whose economy is under duress, especially after a 2016 anti-India uprising…..”

The ministry said security authorities conducted an air-backed operation in Bitlis as part of domestic security operations.

Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu confirmed the neutralization of terrorists with a social media statement.

Operations are underway in the region.
