Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. Migrants in Greece set fires at camp; at least 1 killed

ATHENS, Greece — Migrants protesting at an overcrowded camp on the Greek island of Lesbos set fires and clashed with police Sunday, killing at least one person, authorities said.

A burned body was brought to a local hospital and there is information about an unconfirmed second death, police said. The protesters were demanding to be transferred to the Greek mainland.

“The situation is tense,” Lesbos mayor Stratis Kytelis told The Associated Press earlier. “There is information about a dead mother and her child. We haven’t been able to confirm that yet.”

UNHCR Greece later tweeted that “we learned with deep sadness that the lives of a woman and a child were lost in a fire on (Lesbos) today.”

Greek police spokesman Lt. Col. Theodoros Chronopoulos told the AP that the migrants set a blaze at an olive grove outside the camp just before 5 p.m. (1400 GMT; 9 a.m. EDT) and, minutes later, inside the camp. Kytelis said that both fires were later extinguished.

Police said Deputy Citizen Protection Minister Lefteris Oikonomou, a former chief of the Greek police, was going to Lesbos.

About 12,000 migrants, most of them Afghans, are housed in a space designed for 3,000.

Separately, Greek police said a speeding car carrying 12 Afghan migrants ran through a red light and crashed into a vehicle coming from a side street, killing its driver, a 64-year-old Greek man.

Police said one migrant was seriously injured and three others were slightly injured in the crash Sunday morning on a road between Kavala and Thessaloniki in northern Greece. Some of the migrants were found in the sedan’s trunk.

The driver of the car with the migrants has been arrested. Police said he is a 25-year-old Moldovan trafficker who was taking migrants toward Thessaloniki, 22 kilometres (14 miles) to the west.

When asked by the AP whether the trafficker’s car was being pursued, a police spokesman said that wasn’t the case. But other police officials said the car might have been monitored by authorities in an unmarked vehicle. All spoke on condition of anonymity because the case is ongoing.

reuters – Fire, clashes, one dead at crowded Greek migrant camp on Lesbos

ATHENS (Reuters) – A fire broke out on Sunday at a container inside a crowded refugee camp on the eastern Greek island of Lesbos close to Turkey and one person was killed, emergency services said.

Refugees clashed with police as thick smoke rose over the Moria camp, which currently houses about 12,000 people in overcrowded conditions and firefighters fought to extinguish the blaze.

Police said one burned body was taken to hospital in the island’s capital Mytilini for identification by the coroner. Police sent reinforcements to the island along with the chief of police to help restore order.

Police could not immediately reach an area of containers, where there were unconfirmed reports of another burned body.

Greece has been dealing with a resurgence in refugee and migrant flows in recent weeks from neighboring Turkey. Nearly a million refugees fleeing war in Syria and migrants crossed from Turkey to Greece’s islands in 2015.

More than 9,000 people arrived in August, the highest number in the three years since the European Union and Ankara implemented a deal to shut off the Aegean migrant route. More than 8,000 people have arrived so far in September.

Turks have also attempted to cross to Greece in recent years following a failed coup attempt against Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in 2016.

On Friday seven Turkish nationals, two women and five children, drowned when a boat carrying them capsized near Greece’s Chios island.

  3. the gateway pundit – BREAKING: President Trump Says He Wants Rep. Adam Schiff ‘Questioned at the Highest Level for Fraud and Treason’

“Like every American, I deserve to meet my accuser, especially when this accuser, the so-called “Whistleblower,” represented a perfect conversation with a foreign leader in a totally inaccurate and fraudulent way. Then Schiff made up what I actually said by lying to Congress……”

Trump tweeted. “His lies were made in perhaps the most blatant and sinister manner ever seen in the great Chamber. He wrote down and read terrible things, then said it was from the mouth of the President of the United States. I want Schiff questioned at the highest level for Fraud & Treason…..”

President Trump added that “in addition, I want to meet not only my accuser, who presented SECOND & THIRD HAND INFORMATION, but also the person who illegally gave this information, which was largely incorrect, to the ‘Whistleblower.’ Was this person SPYING on the U.S. President? Big Consequences!”

  4. Democrat Slams Ocasio-Cortez’s Fracking Claim: ‘We Do Ourselves No Favors When We Ignore Science’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez suggested to her millions of Twitter followers that a “fracking” site she visited was releasing toxic emissions, but experts pointed out that the site is not even fracking, and the video she tweeted about caught heat signatures — not emissions.

Democratic New York Rep. Ocasio-Cortez visited Colorado on Saturday to attend Boulder County’s Truman dinner and headlined a Green New Deal event at Boulder High School. On that same day, she visited a “fracking” site in Broomfield, and tweeted about it.

  6. Boom! Rudy Giuliani Drops the Receipts on George Stephanopoulos — Stops ABC Hack in his Tracks (VIDEO)

Trump Attorney and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani joined former Clinton official George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s This Week on Sunday.

During the interview on the Biden Crime Family — Rudy dropped the Ukrainian court documents on the far left ABC host.
He shut down Stephanopoulos dead in his tracks.

    This was epic Rudy!

  7. Never-Trump Chris Wallace Blows a Gasket After Stephen Miller Tells Him: “A Partisan Hit Job Does Not Make You a Whistleblower” (VIDEO)

Wallace interrupted Miller and hurled continuous smears, conspiracies and insults at President Trump.
Chris Wallace cannot even hide his bias against this administration.
FOX News Sunday is truly unwatchable these days with this toxic Trump-hater as its host.

During the discussion Stephen Miller corrected Wallace on the alleged whistleblower.

The only reason the Democrat-media complex is able to call this partisan hack a whistle-blower is because the deep state change their whistleblower forms last month to include hearsay and rumors.

Stephen Miller correctly described the latest attack on the US President as a “deep state hit” pure and simple.

  8. Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Speaks Out – Says Joe Biden’s Son Hunter Biden Should Be Investigated

The Democrat-media complex is outraged that President Trump discussed the deep state attempted coup against his administration. The left is also outraged that President Trump would discuss the Biden Family $8 million pay-for-play scandal with the current Ukrainian president on a phone call.

Democrats want him impeached for discussing the Biden Crime Family. Discussing the criminal activity of a Democrat politician running for higher office is strictly forbidden.

  9. EXPLOSIVE REPORT: Rep. Adam Schiff Linked to Prominent Ukrainian Arms Dealer!

Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff is connected to a Ukrainian arms dealer. Is this why he’s willing to lie in front of the nation when accusing President Trump of crimes?

Adam Schiff is arguably the biggest liar in Congress…. ever. He now leads the House Intelligence Committee and this past week oversaw the Intel Committee where he attempted to align President Trump with some ‘trumped’ up allegations concerning his phone call with the President of the Ukraine. Schiff lied in his opening remarks and claimed numerous falsehoods about the President’s call in spite of the transcript being provided the day before.

    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1923851/un-libyas-coast-guard-rescued-70-europe-bound-migrants

“The UN refugee agency said on Sunday that Libya’s coast guard has rescued about 70 Europe-bound migrants after days in distress in the Mediterranean Sea.

The people have disembarked back in Libya, UNHCR said. The previous day, it said a boat carrying at least 50 migrants capsized in the Mediterranean.

Coast guard spokesman Ayoub Gassim said the shipwreck took place off the western city of Misrata, 187 kilometers east of the capital, Tripoli.

Alarm Phone, an independent support group for people crossing the Mediterranean, said Saturday a second boat for migrants was in distress, with “about 56 lives at risk,” the Associated Press reported.

Libya became a major conduit for African migrants and refugees fleeing to Europe after the uprising that toppled and killed Moammar Gadhafi in 2011.”

  11. UAE, Bahrain Slam Iran’s Violations in Gulf (aawsat, Sep 29, 2019)
    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1923486/uae-bahrain-slam-iran%E2%80%99s-violations-gulf

“The United Arab Emirates and Bahrain have called on world leaders to take a firm stance with Iran, voicing solidarity with Saudi Arabia after a September 14 attack on its oil facilities that has been widely blamed on Tehran.

UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan said Saturday that Iran’s nuclear agreement with world powers should have included the Arab Gulf states, and addressed its ballistic missile program and support for armed groups.

“We are speaking here about a country that seeks to export its revolution,” he said in an address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

“We have an opportunity to achieve sustainable solutions that serve the interest of the region through the political initiative supported by the international community, by focusing on strengthening the implementation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.”

“These are the core pillars of preventing the collapse of international order and preserving relations among states. To achieve this goal, we need to support the capacity of states to abide by their legal obligations, and we need to hold accountable those states that violate their obligations,” he remarked.

“For 48 years, the UAE has never ceased in its demand for its sovereignty and legitimate right over the three islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa, that are occupied by Iran in flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter. Historical records clearly prove the UAE’s ownership of these islands and prove that they have been under Arab rule since ancient times.”

“We will never abandon our demand that Iran must return these islands to their owners,” he declared.

Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa accused Iran of perpetuating terrorism, and of specifically endorsing militant groups that have transformed Iraq “into a launching pad to hit its targets.”

“The Iranian regime with its terrorist Revolutionary Guard Corps have an abusive record that is filled with violations of international charters and resolutions, whether it was through the establishment and support of terrorist militias, or through its continuous attempts to cause chaos and sedition, and by interfering in the internal affairs of many countries in the region, including the Kingdom of Bahrain,” he added.

“This is also seen in its unjust occupation of the three islands of the United Arab Emirates and the direct threat resulting from this continued occupation.”

He also hailed the efforts of the Iraqi government in confronting the “outlaw and armed factions of the Iranian regime, which have become a serious danger not only to Iraq, but also disrespected the inviolability of diplomatic missions in its territories, affected neighboring countries and made Iraq a starting point for terrorist objectives.”

“We cannot overlook the dangerous role played by Hezbollah in spreading extremism and terrorism, as well as inciting hatred and implementing the Iranian agenda to perpetuate tensions and crises in the region,” he continued.

“We stress the need to deter this terrorist party and its threats from the region,” he demanded.”

  12. Yemen’s Houthi rebels say 2,000 pro-govt forces taken prisoner in August offensive (alaraby, Sep 29, 2019)
    https://www.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2019/9/29/yemens-houthi-rebels-say-2-000-pro-govt-forces-taken-prisoner

“Yemen’s Houthi rebels said on Sunday they had killed some 200 pro-government fighters and took 2,000 others prisoner in an August offensive near the southern Saudi region of Najran.

On Saturday, the Houthis had said that officers from Saudi Arabia – which leads a military coalition against the Houthis – were among the captives, but those claims were not repeated in Sunday’s televised press conference.

“More than 200 were killed in dozens of (missile and drone) strikes while trying to escape or surrender,” Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said.

“Over 2,000 fighters were taken prisoner,” he added, saying most of them were Yemeni but that they included other prisoners.

He said that the three-day “large-scale” operation was launched on August 25, and showed footage purportedly of the attack, but it was not clear why the announcement was being made weeks later.

The coalition had no response to the Houthi claims Saturday that Saudi troops were among those taken captive.

A Yemeni government source confirmed to AFP that some 200 soldiers were killed in an attack in late August, but that only about 1,300 fighters were still being held, including 280 who were wounded.

The source said that Yemeni troops were surrounded for four days by the Houthis in the rebels’ northern stronghold of Saada province.

The “enemy soldiers” were captured in the attack that was supported by the movement’s drone, missile and air defence units, a statement by the rebels said.

A spokesman for the Yemen-based rebels said in a statement that three “enemy military brigades had fallen” in the attack, Reuters news agency reported on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the rebels’s Al Masirah TV said the Houthis had captured “thousands” of enemy troops, including many officers and soldiers of the Saudi army, as well as “hundreds of armoured vehicles”.

The Houthis have made a series of big announcements in recent weeks, including an offer to halt drone and ballistic missile attacks on Saudi Arabia as part of efforts to end the long-running war.

The rebels also claimed responsibility for massive September 14 attacks on Saudi oil installations that knocked out half of the OPEC kingpin’s production and sent shock waves through world energy markets.

The United States and Saudi Arabia however blamed Iran, saying the strikes were carried out with advanced weaponry that was beyond the capability of the Houthis…”

  13. India engaged in state terrorism for over 30 years, Pakistan tells UN (tribune, Sep 29, 2019)
    https://tribune.com.pk/story/2068067/3-india-engaged-state-terrorism-30-years-pakistan-tells-un/

“Pakistan on Sunday warned the United Nations that India is pursuing a Hindu supremacist agenda under Narendra Modi’s Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-inspired government, reported Radio Pakistan.

In a rejoinder to India’s response to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s powerful speech, Pakistan maintained that New Delhi has been pursuing a policy of state terrorism and the premier’s speech exposed India’s reality before the world.

“It is strange that a country that has been engaged in state terrorism for over 30 years has the temerity to accuse others of terrorism…”

  14. 5 terrorists ‘neutralized’ in southeastern Turkey (aa, Sep 29, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/5-terrorists-neutralized-in-southeastern-turkey/1597429

“Turkish security forces neutralized five terrorists in an air-backed operation in the southeastern province of Siirt, the Interior Ministry said Sunday.

The gendarmerie carried out a counter-terrorism operation in the rural areas of Siirt’s Pervari district, said a ministry statement.

The statement said eight terrorists were neutralized overall on Sunday.

Turkish authorities often use the term “neutralized” to imply the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.

The operation is still underway, the statement added.

Although the statement did not mention any specific terrorist group, Turkish forces have long been conducting operations against the terrorist group PKK in the region.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union — has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.”

“The bodies of seven Moroccans were recovered close to Casablanca on Saturday after their rubber dinghy sank during their attempted voyage to Spain, Moroccan officials said.

The bodies of the victims including one woman washed ashore at Ain Harrouda, 17 kilometres (10 miles) from Casablanca on the kingdom’s Atlantic coast, after their inflatable boat got a puncture and sank, authorities said.

Three survivors were found unconscious and taken to hospital, the official MAP press agency reported citing the officials.

The number of migrants aboard the vessel was unknown.

Since January, more than 15,000 migrants have arrived in Spain by sea, according to Spanish authorities…”
