Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. Seven killed in Baghdad suburb targeting homes of Hashd al-Shaabi tribal fighters (mee, Sep 22, 2019)
    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/seven-killed-baghdad-suburb-targeting-homes-hashed-al-shaabi-tribal-fighters

“Seven people were killed in three attacks on the outskirts of Baghdad in an area security officials declared free of the Islamic State group.

The attacks began on Saturday night and targeted the homes of tribal fighters belonging to the Hashd al-Shaabi paramilitary force, as well as army barracks, in the Sunni suburb of Tarmiya.

The Shia-dominated Hashd al-Shaabi, or Popular Mobilisation Units, which fought against the Islamic State group with Iraqi troops, includes groups of fighters belonging to Sunni tribes.

Tarmiya has long been a bastion of Sunni extremist groups, and Islamic State sleeper cells have continued to operate in the area, according to the security sources.

Unidentified gunmen attacked the home of a member of a tribal group, killing him, his wife, his son and mother, a police officer told AFP, asking to remain anonymous.

The officer said a separate attack overnight saw sniper fire hit an army barracks, killing two members of the security forces.

At dawn on Sunday, another attack targeted the home of a member of a tribal unit, killing one person, he added.

On Sunday afternoon, security forces announced they had killed one would-be suicide bomber in a village in the Tarmiya region.

For weeks this summer, Iraqi forces – the army, police and the tribal mobilisation units – combed the orchards around Tarmiya for IS sleeper cells.

In July, they declared the operation a success after arresting several alleged IS members.

IS overran large parts of Iraq and neighbouring Syria in 2014, declaring a “caliphate” in areas they controlled.

Iraq in late 2017 declared victory against IS, but the group’s disparate network of undercover fighters still carries out deadly attacks across the country.

On Friday, an attack claimed by IS killed 12 people on the edge of Karbala, as the Shia holy city prepares to receive millions of pilgrims next month.”

In a written statement, GNA said that the attack took place in al-Hadaba area in the capital.

No information was provided on exactly how many people were injured.

“Five Western countries including the United States, as well as Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, support Libyan state oil firm NOC as the sole legitimate authority for the country’s energy sector, a joint statement said on Sunday.

The move came after the eastern Libyan parallel government allied to Khalifa Haftar appointed a parallel board last week for a local unit of NOC, a move seen by diplomats as attempt to break away from the Tripoli headquarters.

“For the sake of Libya’s political and economic stability, and the well-being of all its citizens we exclusively support the NOC,” the statement posted on the website of the U.S. Embassy for Libya said.

It was signed by the United States, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, the UAE and Turkey, it said…”

France: Macron Sides with Iran’s Mullahs

On September 14, just a few days after former National Security Advisor Ambassador John R. Bolton was comfortably disappeared from the administration, Iran inflicted major damage on a massive oil processing facility in Saudi Arabia,

Macron, in short, has done as much or more than any other European country to favor the Iranian regime — more than Germany, and even more than the European Union itself. He could have chosen to act as a reliable ally of the United States, but the choice he made was a different.

The French officials act and speak as if the Iranian regime was totally honorable, and as if they did not discern the obvious: that the Iranian regime has destructive goals. The nuclear deal did not divert the regime from its goal of building nuclear weapons.

The deal, in fact, floated the regime toward precisely that end. The American strategy of applying maximum pressure through economic sanctions seems the only non-military way to pressure this regime to change course.

  9. 7 terrorists ‘neutralized’ in SE Turkey (hdn, Sep 22, 2019)
    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/7-terrorists-neutralized-in-se-turkey-146764

“Turkish security forces neutralized seven terrorists in southeastern Siirt province, the Interior Ministry said on Sept. 22.

Turkish authorities often use the term “neutralized” in statements to imply the terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured.

In a written statement, the ministry said gendarmerie forces carried out a counter-terrorism operation in Siirt’s rural areas.

Security operations are under way, it added.

Though the statement did not mention a specific terrorist group, Turkey has long been conducting operations against the PKK terrorist organization in the region.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children and infants. The terrorist YPG is the PKK’s Syrian branch.”

“Turkish fighter jets “neutralized” seven PKK terrorists in airstrikes on terrorist elements in northern Iraq, according to an official statement Sunday.

The airstrikes in Haftanin region were conducted in coordination with Turkey’s ongoing counter-terror operations in northern Iraq, said a National Defense Ministry statement.

Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized” to imply the terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured.

The counter-terrorism operations were supported by the Turkish Armed Forces, police, gendarmerie, and the National Intelligence service (MIT).

PKK terrorists often use northern Iraq to plan cross-border terrorist attacks in Turkey…”

  10. US delivers truckloads to terrorist PKK/YPG in Syria (aa, Sep 22, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/us-delivers-truckloads-to-terrorist-pkk-ypg-in-syria/1590560

“The U.S. delivered logistical support with about 200 trucks from Iraq to the regions in Syria occupied by terrorist organization YPG/PKK, according to local sources.

The trucks passed Semelka crossing on Syria-Iraq border on Saturday night, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

On Sept. 9, the US delivered 55 trucks of four-wheel drive vehicles, excavators and closed boxes to Ayn Isa and Shaddadi regions occupied by the terror group, while another 60 trucks passed the border to the occupied regions on Sept. 4.

The U.S. has supported the YPG/PKK under the name of SDF, which is considered by Ankara as the Syrian offshoot of the PKK terror organization.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — has been responsible for the deaths of some 40,000 people, including women and children. The YPG is its Syrian branch.

Ankara has long criticized the U.S. for working with the terrorist PYD/YPG to fight Daesh in Syria, saying that using one terror group to fight another makes no sense.”

Israel’s opposition still wants to oust Netanyahu… just not yet

You really couldn’t make this up. After a bitterly contested election campaign in which it managed to deprive PM Benjamin Netanyahu of a clear path to a majority coalition, Israel’s opposition Blue and White party has apparently concluded that it would like the world – and especially President Reuven Rivlin – to believe that Netanyahu nonetheless has a better chance than its leader, Benny Gantz, to form the next government.

What? That can’t be right, I hear you protest.

      ‘Fraid so.…

…And so we have the beyond curious situation of the party that worked for the single key purpose of ousting Netanyahu, and is adamant that Netanyahu lost these elections, now apparently seeking to depict its chances of forming a government as being slightly less good than his, in the hope that he will fail, and they will succeed a few weeks down the road.…
