Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/new-rescue-ship-ocean-viking-leaves-france-first-mission-libya

“Humanitarian group SOS Mediterranee on Sunday dispatched its new rescue ship Ocean Viking from the French port of Marseille on its first mission to save migrants off the coast of Libya.

The group had halted missions with its ship Aquarius last December after they said it was blocked by some EU governments following almost three years of operations and the rescue of 30,000 people at sea.

Libya, caught up in civil conflict since a 2011 uprising killed ruler Muammar Gaddafi, remains a major and dangerous transit route for mostly sub-Saharan people trying to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe.

EU states disagree on how to handle the migrants and some are taking a more hardline position, turning away rescue ships as they seek to dock to drop off rescued migrants…”

Dhamiri had been held in solitary confinement for four years over his work in support of families of political prisoners, according to the Berlin-based Saudi activist and former political prisoner Sami al-Shadukhi.

Last week, Dhamiri was in urgent need to change his left ventricular assist device, an artificial heart pump, but his request was not met by prison officials, leading to his death, according to Shadukhi…”

“Lebanese actress Soha Kikano has called for burning Palestinians in Nazi leader Adolph Hitler’s ovens over their protest against the Lebanese decision to restrict their working rights, Al-Wattan Voice reported yesterday.

Kikano wrote on Twitter: “The Palestinians in Sidon are protesting against the decisions of the labour minister. May they get blinded,” suggesting that measures are needed to “get rid” of them.

The actress then mentioned several ways to do this, including Hitler’s ovens, which were used to carry out the Holocaust. She then described Palestinians as “unleashed like monsters,” adding that “they want to work without laws”.

Her tweet caused wide-spread controversy in Lebanon. Lebanese journalist Hisham Haddad called for prosecuting Kikano and called for Lebanese Foreign Minister, Gebran Bassil, to hold a partisan court for her since she is a member of his party, the Free National Current.”

  9. Nigeria security agents arrest activist for calling for revolution (reuteres, Aug 4, 2019)
    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-nigeria-politics/nigeria-security-agents-arrest-activist-for-calling-for-revolution-idUSKCN1UU0K5

“Nigerian security agents arrested Omoyele Sowore, an activist, news organization founder and former presidential candidate who was calling for revolution, the security agency said on Sunday.

Sowore, a human rights activist who founded Nigerian online news organization Sahara Reporters and ran for president as a minor candidate in the February election, was arrested by the State Security Service on Saturday.

The detention comes as President Muhammadu Buhari, who won a second term in the election, faces criticism for his administration’s record on human rights, particularly a lethal crackdown on protesting followers of a Shi’ite leader who remains in detention despite a court order that he be freed.

Sowore has said Nigeria needs revolution partly because the elections were not credible, along with a list of other issues ranging from corruption to ineptitude.

“We don’t want war,” he said in a July video. “We want a very clean, quick, succinct revolutionary process – surgical. That we put an end to the shenanigans of government, that we put an end to oppression, the corruption of government.”

Sowore had planned for a nationwide series of protests to take place on Monday.

The State Security Service said the calls for revolution were unlawful.

“He’s with us,” said a spokesman, confirming the arrest.

“He has crossed the line, he has threatened public safety… Nothing will happen, there won’t be any revolution. The government, which has been elected democratically, will be in place.”

A presidency spokesman on Sunday said there is “a difference between peaceful call to protest and incitement for a revolution.”

The statement did not refer to the arrest, but said “the ballot box is the only constitutional means of changing government and a president in Nigeria.””

“Turkish security forces nationwide on Saturday held at least 182 irregular migrants attempting to cross into Europe.

According to statements by the coast guard and gendarmerie forces, irregular migrants were held in the Aegean Sea coast region and various other locales.

Well over 100 of the irregular migrants were held in the Aegean region while attempting to cross to Europe via Greece, most of them from Afghanistan or Iran.

Seventy were held in the Aegean Izmir province. Turkish Coast Guard units saved a group of 15 Afghans before their sinking rubber boat went beneath the waves.

In a separate operation, security forces tipped off about 41 irregular migrants in the Aegean Aydin province trying to illegally cross to Europe intercepted the group.

In the Eastern Kars province, bordering Armenia, security guards caught 34 irregular migrants after their illegal entry into Turkey and referred them to the nearest deportation center.

    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/turkish-jets-neutralize-3-pkk-terrorists-in-niraq/1549022

“Turkish fighter jets neutralized three PKK terrorists during a counter-terrorism operation in northern Iraq, the National Defense Ministry said on Sunday morning.

Airstrikes were carried out in the Gara region in coordination with the ongoing Operation Claw, the ministry said on Twitter.

Turkish authorities often use the term “neutralized” in statements to imply the terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured.

On May 27, Turkey launched Operation Claw against the PKK in the Hakurk region of northern Iraq.

On July 13, Turkey launched Operation Claw-2 as a follow-up on the successfully ongoing Claw-1, which revealed new information on terrorist activities, according to the ministry.

A total of 71 terrorists have been “neutralized” since the launch of Operation Claw, the ministry announced on Monday.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — has been responsible for the deaths of some 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.”

  15. US: Education group sues FETO charter school in Alabama (aa, Aug 4, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/americas/us-education-group-sues-feto-charter-school-in-alabama/1548550

“The Alabama Education Association (AEA) filed a lawsuit on Friday against a Texas-based member of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) seeking to open a charter school in rural southwest Alabama.

Residents of Washington County in the U.S. state of Alabama have strongly rejected plans to establish a charter school in the area, yet the project was approved despite major shortcomings and a lack of educational standards and credentials.

According to a report by the Al Reporter, a news magazine in Alabama, the lawsuit claims Soner Tarim “engaged in fraudulent conduct to conceal the extent of his involvement with the non-profit organization that is allegedly behind the creation of Woodland Prep, a charter school located in Washington County.”

Tarim, one of the key figures running FETO’s charter school network in the U.S., is the CEO of the Unity School Services and was the founder of Harmony Schools, a charter school network in Texas.

FETO and its U.S.-based billionaire leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Turkey also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.

The lawsuit also claims Tarim “misrepresented the level of community support for the school and is advertising illegally in Mississippi in an attempt to attract enough students to be able to open the school.”

Tarim’s charter project in Alabama was granted a one-year extension by the Alabama Public Charter School Commission to delay the opening of the school a few months ago.

AEA Associate Executive Director Theron Stokes said, based on reports, that it was clear the group who made the charter school application for Woodland Prep was “nothing but a front for Tarim”, as reported by Al Reporter.

“He (Tarim) got a taste for Alabama taxpayer money through LEAD Academy in Montgomery and has decided he wants to franchise corporate charter schools,” Stokes said.

“But the citizens of Washington County have risen up to fight the diversion of funds from a school system that, despite the odds, is thriving and succeeding. That is why contractors walked off the construction site, why he’s advertising in Mississippi to get students, and why we are taking this step — to support our members and our local association in their fight,” Stokes added.

According to an earlier report by the same magazine: “A copy of the USS contract with the Woodland Prep board shows that Tarim will make 15 percent of all federal, state and local funds received by Woodland. If Woodland’s projected enrollment of 260 students is accurate, Tarim will make more than $300,000,” making him the highest paid official in the poverty-stricken county.

It also said “legal questions” had been raised about Harmony as well as Tarim’s use of the schools to exploit a visa program and skirt hiring laws in order to give contract jobs to Turkish workers and teachers, referring to loyalists of Gulen.

“There have also been other, education-related problems, such as a massive grade-change scandal at Harmony in Texas and financial fraud allegations related to grants at other Gulen schools,” reported the magazine.

FETO has a considerable presence internationally, including private schools — more than 150 charter schools in the U.S. — and hospitals which serve as a revenue stream for the terror group.”

  16. DAILY MAIL -British teen who claimed Israeli tourists gang-raped her in Ayia Napa says police dictated her confession that she had invented the allegation and ordered her to sign it

19-year-old woman was denied a lawyer and made to sign statement by police
Last month she said up to a dozen teenagers sexually assaulted her in Ayia Napa
They were released and returned home after she allegedly changed her story
The woman claims police would not let her speak to anyone or get a lawyer

A British tourist held in Cyprus for allegedly making false claims of gang-rape was forced to sign a confession fabricated by the police, according to reports.

The 19-year-old woman was denied a lawyer and made to sign the statement after being kept at the police station for eight hours.

Last month she told police up to a dozen teenagers had held her down before taking it in turns to sexually assault her in Ayia Napa.

Following her confession they were released and returned to Israel to a heroes’ welcome, celebrating with champagne, after she allegedly changed her story.

She could face a year in jail if she is found guilty of making up the allegations against the 12 Israelis, aged 15 to 18.

But it is thought the police threatened to arrest her friends if she did not withdraw her complaint.

Michael Polak, a British barrister who is representing the teenager, said: ‘The confession was obtained under oppression given the threats made.

‘She was not cautioned and was not given access to a lawyer as was her right under the European Convention on Human rights.

‘Further, the teenager was not told she could leave the police station nor given the option of leaving at any point.’

He told The Sun: ‘It is also understood that unfortunately none of the proceedings at the Cypriot police station were recorded.’ In the UK interviews must be recorded by law.

The woman also sent messages to her friends minutes before she was charged at 2.30am claiming the police would not let her speak to anyone.

She wrote: ‘It’s crazy. They wouldn’t let me talk to anyone.

‘I said I have a right to have a lawyer here. Not in Cyprus, maybe the UK not Cyprus.

‘They’ve honestly made me sign false…’ Other messages to her friends read: ‘Bad things with police.

‘They think it’s a conspiracy and they threatened an international arrest warrant to arrest you all for it.’

One friend replied: ‘WTF. What the hell.’

The Israeli teenagers, who on holiday before starting national service, all denied rape while three said they had drunken consensual sex with her at a hotel.

It is believed she had a holiday fling with one or more of the teens before the allegations were made.

The woman could now face civil action from some of the former suspects who plan to sue for more than £50,000 each in damages.

Police reports seen by The Sun also state medical examinations of two Israelis found ‘suspicious scratches’ and bruises on their backs and chests.

They claimed they had been attacked by the woman’s friends by the hotel’s manager denies such a fight taking place.

The reports are also said to include details of one of the Israeli youths changing his story.

It comes days after the woman’s legal team claimed she has been a victim of ‘revenge porn’ after the youths sent friends a video of her having drunken sex which has since gone viral.

According to Israeli sources, the video has been shared widely via WhatsApp, social media and even on porn sites after one or more of the youths sent it to friends.

The footage is also believed to show the group making derogatory comments about the woman in Hebrew during the encounter.

One source said: ‘The video is everywhere. In it you can hear one of the boys saying in Hebrew “You’re my whore – say you are my whore”.

‘She doesn’t understand and asks what they are saying and one of them replies in English “We are saying you’re sexy”. It is not very nice. It’s not how men should act. A lot of people in Israel are starting to question their behaviour.’

The case was adjourned until August 7 for a plea hearing after the defence requested more time to review evidence including the video.
