Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. Turkey Says it ‘Neutralized’ 34 PKK Fighters in Air Strikes (aawsat, Jul 27, 2019)
    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1831986/turkey-says-it-%E2%80%98neutralized-34-pkk-fighters-air-strikes

“Turkey’s Defense Ministry said on Saturday it had “neutralized” 34 Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) fighters in northern Iraq in air strikes on July 17-19.

Sixteen militants were “neutralized” in air strikes on northern Iraq’s Qandil region on July 17, and 18 in air strikes on the Karacak region on July 19, it said.

The ministry commonly uses the term “neutralized” to refer to those killed but it can also refer to those wounded or captured.

The PKK, considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and European Union, has waged an insurgency for autonomy in Turkey’s largely Kurdish southeast since 1984. It has fighters based in northern Iraq, mainly in the Qandil region.

The Defense Ministry said it had “neutralized” a total of 255 PKK fighters in operations in northern Iraq since May 27, when Ankara launched an offensive there against the PKK.

Turkey frequently launches air strikes in the region but the latest campaign, dubbed “Operation Claw”, has included artillery fire and ground operations.”

Presecutors subpoenaed Jeffrey Epstein’s personal pilots who flew the mult-millionaire and his celebrity guests to his private island.
    Forbes reported:

Last week investigative reporter Conchita Sarnoff, the author of “Trafficking” on the Jeffrey Epstein case, joined Shannon Bream and said Bill Clinton flew on Epstein’s plane 27 times and ALMOST EVERY TIME that Clinton was on the plane there were underage girls on the plane.

Sarnoff also said Bill Clinton was lying about his flights with Jeffrey Epstein.

Conchita Sarnoff spoke with Sean Stone on Russia Today about her book “Trafficking” back in April 2016.

Epstein was given only 13 months in prison instead of the minimun 20 years given to other child sex perpetrators.

Sarnoff told RT the abused girls were all under the age of 16-years-old. Sarnoff then read from her book on victim Virginia Roberts who told the judge during court proceedings that Epstein had several prominent clients.

  4. 15 killed in Islamist militant attack in Burkina Faso (ahram, Jul 27, 2019)
    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/2/9/339713/World/International/-killed-in-Islamist-militant-attack-in-Burkina-Fas.aspx

“Armed men described as Islamist militants raided a village in Burkina Faso’s restive north, killing 15 people, plundering and burning shops and motorbikes, a regional governor said Saturday.

The raid took place on the night of Thursday to Friday with “around 20 individuals attacking the village of Diblou,” said a security source who put the death toll at 14.

But a statement by the governor of the Centre-Nord region, Casimir Segueda, said that 15 people were killed, and the village’s market torched.

A local resident said that “the terrorists burnt shops and motorcycles”.

“Almost the entire market was looted,” the resident added.

The poor Sahel state has been battling a rising wave of Islamist militant attacks over the last four years which began in the north but have since spread to the east, near the border with Togo and Benin.

Most attacks in the former French colony are attributed to the Islamist militant group Ansarul Islam, which emerged near the Mali border in December 2016, and to the JNIM (Group to Support Islam and Muslims), which has sworn allegiance to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.

Those groups are believed to be responsible for around 500 deaths since 2015. The capital Ouagadougou has been attacked three times.”

    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2019/07/279225/tangier-judicial-police-terror-cell-veteran-isis-fighter/

“The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) under the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) succeeded today, July 27, in dismantling a terrorist cell in the city of Tangier.

The cell is composed of five extremists aged between 24 and 36 years, among them a veteran who fought in the ranks of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

In a statement, BCIJ said their investigation found that the cell members were in contact with ISIS and had pledged allegiance to the terrorist group.

“The extremists coordinated and planned to target several sensitive sites in the kingdom,” adds the statement.

The BCIJ added that the investigation, carried out under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office, is still ongoing. The suspects are pending trial until the completion of the investigation.

The arrests are part of the BCIJ strategy. The strategy aims to neutralize suspects before they carry out their operations.

According to Al Ahdath Al Maghribia’s July 27 issue, the BCIJ was able to neutralize, in one week only, twenty extremists planning acts of terror. The arrests took place in several cities including Safi, Rabat, Casablanca.”

  6. Pakistan lacks system for recording, reporting debt (tribune, Jul 27, 2019)
    https://tribune.com.pk/story/2022239/2-pakistan-lacks-system-recording-reporting-debt/

“Pakistan lacks a consolidated system for recording and reporting its debt and there is also no mechanism to regulate public assets that results in discrepancies and non-reconciliation of hundreds of billions of rupees worth of funds.

The final draft report of the Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability Assessment (PEFA) 2019 of the World Bank has pointed out glaring deficiencies in the management of government assets and liabilities.

These findings are tantamount to charge-sheeting the Ministry of Finance. The report covers three fiscal years from 2015-16 to 2017-18 but the bureaucrats responsible for executing these functions still occupy their positions in the Ministry of Finance. The problems that have been identified in the report also remain largely unaddressed.
The World Bank draft report showed that Pakistan performed poorly on the pillar of management of assets and liabilities. Four critical indicators fall under this pillar. These are fiscal risk reporting where the country got B grade, public investment management (D plus), public asset management (D) and debt management (B plus).

    Debt management

The joint assessment by the World Bank and the European Union showed that Pakistan’s debt management practices and controls were largely satisfactory and the assessment gave B plus grade.

It gave B grade on recording and reporting of debt and guarantees. “Most of the information relating to domestic and foreign debt and guarantees is reconciled on a quarterly basis. However, there is no consolidated system for recording and reporting of debt,” says the report.

At present, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Ministry of Finance and economic affairs ministry separately record domestic and external debt data. “Due to the involvement of various entities at different levels, there is a need for a consolidated system regarding reporting of all transactions related to debt and guarantees,” suggested the World Bank.

The World Bank noted that the project “Improve Financial Reporting and Auditing” (Pifra) introduced the Government Financial Management Information System (GFMIS) but linkages through a dedicated and specialised module for debt management between the Economic Affairs Division, Ministry of Finance and the SBP “need to be in place”.

There are differences between debt data of the government and SBP. The discrepancy in numbers is found in quarterly tables of fiscal operations and those reported by the SBP in monetary survey, it added.

Owing to the violation of Fiscal Responsibility and Debt Limitation Act of 2005, the World Bank gave B rating on the approval of debt and guarantees. The country managed to secure A rating on the sub-indicator of debt management strategy.

    Fiscal risk reporting

The fiscal risk reporting indicator measured the extent to which fiscal risks are reported. Due to adverse rating on the sub-indicator of monitoring of public corporations, Pakistan was given B rating.

“The fiscal risks are often not reflected adequately in the budget and contribute towards variances in expenditure from the budget, undermining the credibility of the budget,” said the report.

The finance ministry does not monitor all the state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and it is keen to seek financial reports from only those SOEs that provide dividends, according to the final draft report. It secured C grade on monitoring of public corporations.

The country got B grade on the sub-indicator of contingent liabilities and other fiscal risks. The government reports explicit contingent liabilities but does not account for implicit contingent liabilities including potential bailouts to SOEs, expected change in policies and legal cases, according to the report.

“Contingent budget line is not included in the budget. While the explicit contingent liabilities are being monitored, it is a concern whether they are being incorporated into the budget,” noted the joint World Bank and EU assessment.

    Public asset management

The indicator assessed the management and monitoring of government assets and transparency of asset disposal. The country fared poor on all four sub-indicators, resulting in overall D grade – the lowest score on the board.

The report underlined that there is no mechanism to consolidate and monitor financial assets at the federal level. There is also no practice of recognising the securities in terms of held for trading, held till maturity or available for sale, noted the report. The government also does not publish information on performance of its financial assets.

The World Bank report stated that there “was a major issue with reconciliation of bank accounts”. Government funds in private bank accounts amount to Rs1.4 trillion and these funds could not be audited.

There is also no monitoring of non-financial assets and the government does not maintain record as per age, location and usage, according to the report. Budget books also do not carry a list of assets disposed of during the course of a fiscal year.

Foreign exchange: SBP reserves fall 4.9% to $7.6b

    Public investment management

Due to the planning ministry’s failure in economic analysis of projects, selection of projects and poor costing and monitoring, the World Bank has given the lowest score of D plus on public investment management indicators.

“The PSDP includes both approved and unapproved projects; generally, unapproved projects have not gone through the same scrutiny, studies and approval process as the approved projects,” according to the report.

Although the World Bank report covers last three years of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has recently added 52 unapproved projects of its allied party to the PSDP under political expediency in this fiscal year’s PSDP.”

“Turkey will continue to fight against FETÖ inside and outside the country, the interior minister said on July 27.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency during his visit to Albania’s capital Tirana, Süleyman Soylu said Turkey will win the fight against FETÖ in Albania and in other countries.

“In this fight, our determination both in the country and abroad will continue in the same manner,” he added.

Speaking about his visit to Tirana, the minister said he met with his Albanian counterpart Sander Lleshaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama, adding “serious decisions” were taken during the meetings.

“The issue of taking steps together in the fight against all terrorist organizations, including FETÖ, was evaluated during the meeting. They have expressed their commitment in this regard,” Soylu said.

Soylu said that the approach of both Albanian prime minister and interior minister toward FETÖ has pleased him.”

    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/politics/turkey-44-police-officers-arrested-over-feto-links-/1542793

“Some 44 serving, seven off-duty police officers and three others– who were accused of having links to Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) — were arrested in anti-terror operations across Turkey, security sources said on Saturday.

The arrests came after Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office issued arrest warrants for some 64 FETO-linked terror suspects, in 30 provinces across the nation, according to sources who asked not to be named, due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Police conducted simultaneous raids in 75 locations. The operation is underway to nab the remaining suspects.

FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.”

  9. Morocco navy picks up 242 migrants in Spain crossing attempt (thelocal, Jul 27, 2019)
    https://www.thelocal.es/20190727/morocco-navy-picks-up-242-migrants-in-spain-crossing-attempt

“The Moroccan navy has picked up 242 migrants from sub-Saharan Africa who were trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Spain in flimsy boats, the official MAP press agency reported late Friday.

It said the migrants, including 50 women and 12 children, were rescued from several inflatable boats which had got into difficulty.

“The migrants, some of whom were unwell, were taken safely to port,” the news agency said.

So far this year, more than 15,000 such migrants have made it to Spain, 12,000 by the sea route, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) estimates.

More than 200 have died in the attempt.

Aiming to halt the migrant influx, the European Union last year gave Morocco 140 million euros to support efforts to curb human traffickers.”

  11. BREITBART – Hungary: ‘Illegal Migration Is a Threat to European Culture and Civilization’

The Hungarian government has warned that illegal migration threatens Europe’s future, culture, and civilisation, reiterated its “sovereign right” to reject multiculturalism, and criticised the European Union for pushing back against Italian leader Matteo Salvini’s attempts to clamp down on illegal sea crossings.
“We have a very clear policy,” explained Péter Szijjártó, foreign minister in Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán’s conservative government, in an interview with the Voice of America agency owned and funded by the U.S. government.

“We want to preserve Hungary as a Hungarian country. We have a right for that. It’s a sovereign right of Hungary to decide whom we would like to allow to enter the territory of the country, and with whom we would like to live together,” he said, insisting “we do not accept either Brussels, New York or Geneva” — key power bases for the European Union and United Nations — “taking these kinds of decisions instead of us.”

Szijjártó accepted that some EU members-states regard “migration as something desirable” but that his government did not agree, and refused to be judged “just because we think differently.”

“We think that the illegal migration is a threat to the European future, a threat to the European culture and to the European civilization,” he stated bluntly, adding that Hungary is “a country which sticks strictly to national identity, which would like to preserve religious heritage, historic heritage and cultural heritage” and that “We do not want to lose them.”

The Hungarian suggested that the pressure which has been put on his country by the European Union, pro-open borders “civil society” non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and the left-liberal global commentariat stems from misunderstandings over “what is a human right and what is not a human right”.

“[M]igration is definitely not a fundamental human right,” he insisted — but “to have a safe and secure life back at home” is.

Szijjártó told the American outlet that “We Hungarians have proven that, with the support of the Central European countries who send troops and policemen to our southern border, that [illega] migration can be stopped” — part of a wider pushback against the United Nations narrative that migration is “inevitable” (as well as “desirable” and “necessary”).

He stressed that at sea, too, where hundreds of thousands of migrants have been ferried to Greece from Turkey, tens of thousands to Italy and Spain from North Africa, and hundreds to England from France, usually by or with the help of people-smugglers or so-called “rescue” ships operated by NGOs, it can be stopped, as Italy’s populist deputy prime minister and interior minister Matteo Salvini has proven.

“But unfortunately, instead of being supported by Brussels, he was enormously attacked by European institutions,” Szijjártó lamented.

Asked by Voice of America if the Hungarian governmnet’s robust opposition to mass migration and multiculturalism was at odds with its equally robust opposition to the Ukrainian government interfering with the rights of their Hungarian minority to attend Hungarian-language schools in Transcarpathia border region, Szijjártó was adamanet that the two issues were “totally different”.

“Hungarians in Transcarpathia have not moved there, they had been living there for centuries,” he explained.

  12. the daily caller – Canada’s Public Broadcaster Airs Its Documentary Celebrating Children In Drag

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) aired its “Drag Kids” Thursday night.

Canada’s taxpayer-funded media outlet, which is allotted $1.5 billion dollars a year, promoted its documentary about children performing in drag for the entire month of July. The network used its CBC Kids Twitter profile to ask the question, “What’s it like to be a KID #DRAGQUEEN?”

The CBC documentary follows four children and their parents as they prepare for and perform in a Montreal drag show for kids. The CBC promo explains: “Have you ever dreamed about being someone else for a day? For some kids, it’s just a dream. They stuff it away in a closet and forget about it. But for others, it’s more than a dream. They reach into that closet and pull out a wig.”

They also deck themselves out with rouge, lip gloss and mascara and dance suggestively on stage. The children are also depicted celebrating the LGBTQ experience at pride parades.

Speaking to the Daily Caller on Friday, the CBC director of public affairs Chuck Thompson said “all the reviews today have been excellent.” Thompson described “Drag Kids” as part of the CBC’s mandate to provide a platform “where you want to share diverse perspectives.” He hopes the show will “ignite opinions and encourage debate.”

But the Vice President of REAL Women of Canada Gwen Landolt said CBC has not only disgraced themselves with the production, “they have brought degradation to all Canadian broadcasters.” Landolt told the Daily Caller Friday that the television special “certainly shows that we don’t need the CBC. Why would they produce something like this? Are they that desperate for viewers?” Landolt asked.

“What kind of parents are they and how much do they care for their children to subject them to this abuse? This is a two-fold tragedy because it is a waste of Canadian taxpayers’ dollars and it is destroying children’s lives,” she said.

Maxime Bernier, the leader of the People’s Party of Canada and a former foreign affairs minister in the Stephen Harper Conservative government, agreed with Landolt. Bernier, who is a persistent critic of the CBC, noted: “The documentary director claims this has nothing to do with sexuality. This is patently false. These kids move and dance in a way that is meant to be sexually suggestive.”

“As a father, I find it totally disgraceful that CBC promotes the sexualization of children. It’s simply unbelievable that taxpayers are paying for this type of trash.”

CBC’s public affairs director noted in a follow-up call to the Daily Caller that “the documentary has been given a ‘G’ rating for general viewing,” adding that he thought “this was pertinent to the discussion.”
