Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. Pakistan Brings Terrorism Financing Charges Against Hafiz Saeed (aawsat, Jul 6, 2019)
    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1800636/pakistan-brings-terrorism-financing-charges-against-hafiz-saeed

“Under pressure from the United States and a global watchdog group, Pakistan is prosecuting the founder of the ‘Islamist group’ that carried out the deadly 2008 Mumbai attacks on charges of terrorism financing, along with several of his close aides.

Officials said 23 cases had been registered against the man, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, and more than a dozen of his associates in Punjab Province, after investigations looked into two charities that act as a front for the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba group he founded: Jamaat-ud-Dawa and Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation.

Counterterrorism officials said these charities were involved in raising money for terrorism. A security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Mr. Saeed and more than a dozen of his associates would be prosecuted in antiterrorism courts on charges of terrorism financing and money laundering.

Pakistan formally banned the two charities this year. The prosecution of Mr. Saeed this week was described by officials as a renewed effort by the country to comply with the requirements of the Financial Action Task Force, an international terrorism-financing watchdog.

Pakistan is on the task force’s so-called gray list, and risks being blacklisted, which would result in global sanctions if it fails to curb terrorism financing within the country.

It remained unclear whether Mr. Saeed, who was set free by a court in 2017, would face an immediate arrest. Mr. Saeed, who faces a bounty of $10 million by the United States for information leading to his conviction, is based in the eastern city of Lahore. India and the United States both accuse him of being the mastermind of the Mumbai attacks, but several cases against him in the past were dismissed by Pakistani courts for lack of evidence. More than 160 people were killed in the attacks in multiple locations around Mumbai.

Pakistani officials say that India still has not provided enough evidence for Mr. Saeed to be charged and arrested.

Mr. Saeed remains a revered figure to many Pakistanis, and his followers have recently waded into politics, also. But electorally, his political party, Milli Muslim League, has not been able to gain much traction.

Earlier in May, the financial task force, known by the abbreviation F.A.T.F., issued a warning to Pakistan, urging the country to take decisive action against terrorism financing.

“The F.A.T.F. expresses concern that not only did Pakistan fail to complete its action plan items with January deadlines, it also failed to complete its action plan items due May 2019,” the task force said in a statement. “The F.A.T.F. strongly urges Pakistan to swiftly complete its action plan by October 2019, when the last set of action plan items are set to expire.”

Western countries accuse Pakistan’s military of continuing to nurture extremist groups as proxies against neighboring countries, including the Taliban against Afghanistan and Lashkar-e-Taiba against India.

Publicly, Pakistani officials insist that the country has changed and no longer follows that strategy. Both civil and military officials are on record as saying that the militant groups pose more of a threat to Pakistan’s interests than they are worth.

In an interview with The New York Times in April, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the decision to clamp down on militant groups was independent of any outside pressure.

“We have decided, for the future of our country — forget the outside pressure — we will not allow armed militias to operate anymore,” Mr. Khan said.

But there is still skepticism about those assertions. Pakistani officials have made similar promises in the past, but militant groups continue to survive various crackdowns.”

  3. Saudi tourists avoiding Turkey (saudigazette, Jul 6, 2019)
    http://saudigazette.com.sa/article/571140/SAUDI-ARABIA/Saudi-tourists-avoiding-Turkey

“The number of Saudi tourists to Turkey declined by 33.2% during the first six months of 2019 to reach 122,115 people compared to the same period last year when their number totaled 182,689, according to what was officially announced by the website of the Federation of Hotel Owners in Turkey.

The figures indicate a decline in Saudi tourism in Turkey from the fourth position to the 10th.

The official figures issued by the Turkish government showed recently a decline in the number of tourists from Arab countries and other places to Turkey.

This is contrary to what is being circulated and promoted by the Turkish media or Arab media close to Ankara.

The Turkish Statistics Institute in Ankara attributed the 8.5% rise in the number of tourists coming to Turkey during the first three months of the current year compared to the same period last year to the fact that one fifth of this number were not foreign tourists from abroad. They were Turkish nationals who were returning to visit their families in Turkey.

The report by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TUIK) showed that 6.6 million people visited Turkey during Q1 of 2019.

However, 17.8% of these were Turkish citizens living abroad. They returned to visit their families.

This means that the percentage of Turkish citizens living abroad visiting their country is much higher than the total number of tourists who visited the country during the above-mentioned period.”

  4. Saudi Arabia deports 858,355 illegal residents since November 2017 (saudigazette, Jul 6, 2019)
    http://saudigazette.com.sa/article/571109/SAUDI-ARABIA/Saudi-Arabia-deports-858355-illegal-residents-since-November-2017

” Saudi Arabia has deported at least 858,355 illegal foreigners since November 2017 in a nationwide crackdown that saw more than 3.44 million people rounded up in various parts of the Kingdom for violating residency and labor regulations.

The Interior Ministry said security forces apprehended a total of 3,443,455 expatriates in what is dubbed as a Nation Free of Illegals campaign until Thursday, July 4, the Saudi Press Agency reported late Friday quoting campaign officials.

The campaign was launched in mid-November 2017 with the participation of 19 ministries and government departments including the Ministry of Labor and Social Development and the Directorate General of Passports.

The officials said 2,684,975 people were arrested for violating the system of residency, 531,195 for not adhering to labor regulations and 227,285 for trying to breach border security.

They said 58,032 people were arrested while sneaking into the Kingdom through its southern borders. About 47 percent of the infiltrators were Yemenis, 50 percent Ethiopians and 3 percent from various other nationalities.

According to the campaign sources, 2,511 people were caught while attempting to leave the Kingdom illegally while 3,988 people were charged with sheltering illegal residents by providing with accommodation and transportation. They included 1,372 Saudi nationals, of whom 1,331 were released after they underwent punishments while 41 others are still under investigation.

The sources said 13,000 illegal expatriates, including 11,047 men and 1,953 women, were currently being held in various detention centers in the country.

They said 446,179 violators were referred to their respective embassies and consulates to issue them travel documents while 569,346 were completing their flight bookings for final exit from the Kingdom.”

  5. Greece seizes record amount of amphetamine Captagon shipped from Syria (memo, Jul 6, 2019)
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190706-greece-seizes-record-amount-of-amphetamine-captagon-shipped-from-syria/

“Greek authorities have seized what they described as the world’s largest single haul of super-charged amphetamine Captagon pills from Syria worth more than half a billion euros, Reuters reports.

Coastguard and drug enforcement officers seized three containers full of the amphetamines, the financial crimes unit (SDOE) said on Friday. The operation involved 20 officers and landed 5.25 tonnes of the drug – 33 million Captagon pills – found in the containers shipped from Syria.

“It is the largest quantity that has ever been seized globally, depriving organised crime of proceeds that would have exceeded $660 million (587.45 million euros),” the financial crimes unit said in a statement.

Captagon is one of several brand names for fenethylline hydrochloride, a drug compound belonging to the family of amphetamines, stimulants of the central nervous system.

In the 1960s the drug was prescribed to treat narcolepsy and depression but by the 1980s the medical community determined that Captagon’s addictive properties outweighed clinical benefits and it was banned.

However, Captagon is a popular narcotic in the Arabian Peninsula and in war-torn Syria.

Syria became a major amphetamines exporter and consumer as the trauma of its civil war fuelled demand and the breakdown in law and order created opportunites for producers.

Greek authorities were trying to determine if the shipment’s final destination was China, SDOE said, without providing further details.”

  6. Tunisia recovers 14 migrants’ bodies after dozens drowned off coast (reuters, Jul 6, 2019)
    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-tunisia-migrants/tunisia-recovers-14-migrants-bodies-after-dozens-drowned-off-coast-idUSKCN1U10OD

“Tunisia’s Coast Guard recovered on Saturday the bodies of 14 African migrants who drowned when their boat carrying more than 80 people sank after setting off for Europe from neighboring Libya, the Tunisian Red Crescent said.

Tunisian fishermen rescued four people but one later died in hospital, the U.N. refugee agency UNHCR said on Thursday. The others on the overcrowded boat were feared drowned.

At least 65 migrants heading for Europe from Libya drowned last May when their boat capsized off Tunisia.

Libya’s west coast is a main departure point for African migrants hoping to reach Europe, though numbers have dropped due to an Italian-led effort to disrupt smuggling networks and support the Libyan Coast Guard…”

  7. Spain to Grant Morocco €26 Million to Support Border Control (mwd, Jul 6, 2019)
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2019/07/277471/spain-morocco-border-control/

“Morocco’s Interior Ministry will receive €26 million from Spain to support the country’s ongoing efforts to manage the flow of undocument migrants into Europe.

The grant comes as part of the €140 million promised by the European Commission in the 2019 budget for the “Support for the integral management of borders and migration in Morocco” project.

Spanish outlet El Pais reports that the fund is also intended to boost Moroccan border security, in particular in the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla.

The payment contract between Spain and Morocco is expected to be approved by the Spanish Council of Ministers on July 05.

Morocco has already received €40 million for Spain as part of the European Commission’s grant. Upon the approval of the new agreement, Spain will transfer the additional €26 million.

This most recent installment of the payments to Morocco will be used to purchase equipment including a fleet of vehicles to reinforce its border control.

The fleet will include seven sets of vehicles comprised of four different SUV models, including ambulances, as well four truck models, including tankers and refrigerated vehicles.

Increased surveillance of Moroccan borders has significantly reduced irregular entries into Spain during the first 5 months of 2019.

The Spanish Ministry of Interior registered the arrival of 13,263 people between January and June 2019, showing a decrease of 23% from the same period in 2018.

The statistics on migration began to fall in February 2019, coinciding with Spanish King Felipe VI’s visit to Morocco. During a brief meeting in Rabat, the Spanish monarch discussed the issue of irregular migration with King Mohamed VI.

During the visit, both neighbouring countries agreed on the need for stronger border security to quell the flow of undocumented migrants travelling through Morocco and into Spain.

Spain will also be taking steps to tackle the issue of irregular migration. The European commission granted Spain an emergency fund €5.3 million to support their border security efforts.

The funds are intended to support national police in the management of four temporary migrant holding centers, in which authorities can detain newly arrived undocumented migrants for up to 72 hours pending identification.

The fund is intended to improve the conditions of these facilities, called Temporary Migrant Help Centres (CATE), with the outsourcing of food services, health, cleaning, and translation. The fund will cover the purchase of clothing, blankets, towels and medicines.”

  8. Moroccan Police Arrest Palestinian Dealing in Bitcoin for Terrorist Organizations (mwn, Jul 6, 2019)
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2019/07/277508/moroccan-police-palestinian-bitcoin-terrorism/

“The Moroccan Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ) has arrested a Palestinian national residing in the city of Mohammedia (17 kilometers from Casablanca) suspected of trading with virtual currency, Bitcoin, for terrorist organizattions.

In collaboration with the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), BCIJ arrested the suspect on June 27.

The arrest was part of DGSN efforts to combat terrorism and its resources, according to a Directorate statement on Saturday.

DGSN’s statement added that the suspect has acquired considerable experience in electronic currency transactions through his own activity on several virtual trading platforms.

The suspect successfully dealt with many clients through virtual trading platforms, which face fewer restrictions in many countries outside Morocco.

DGSN added that the suspect was arrested on July 4, facing charges of “receiving money from the public and carrying out unauthorized transactions.’’

Moroccan authorities placed the Palestinian national in pre-trial detention.”

  9. ‘Those who move against Turkey will be frustrated’ (aa, Jul 6, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/those-who-move-against-turkey-will-be-frustrated/1524704

“A top Turkish official on Saturday warned against underestimating Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean or violating its rights and those of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

“Those who move against the legitimate rights of Turkey or the TRNC and discount Turkey in the region will not be able to reach their aims,” Vice President Fuat Oktay said in Lefkosa, the Turkish Cypriot capital.

Oktay, in Turkish Cyprus for bilateral economic meetings, spoke against a backdrop of Turkey protesting unilateral energy exploration by Greek Cyprus while sending out its own drill ships, whose crews Greek Cyprus has threatened.

Turkey has consistently asserted that Turkish Cypriots also have rights to the resources in the region and that Ankara has the right to do hydrocarbon drilling.

In 1974, following a coup aiming at Cyprus’ annexation by Greece, Ankara had to intervene as a guarantor power. In 1983, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was founded.

The decades since have seen several attempts to resolve the Cyprus dispute, all ending in failure. The latest one, held with the participation of the guarantor countries — Turkey, Greece, and the U.K. — ended in 2017 in Switzerland.

Oktay meets with Turkish Cypriot prime minister

“Reforms are extremely important. Businesspeople are waiting for the reforms. There are important initiatives in the government’s program,” said Oktay during his visit to Ersin Tatar, the Turkish Cypriot prime minister.

He said that their greatest wish is realizing reforms and paving the way for an investors’ economy in the country, adding that they believe the new government will succeed in this.

“The island and the whole world are looking at the hydrocarbon resources [issue],” he added, saying that in this process they should take care.

For his part, Tatar said that the TRNC is continuing its development in spite of difficulties and the unjust international embargo.

“We will always have good relations with Turkish governments,” he added, referring to Turkish backing of the TRNC.”

  10. Turkey neutralizes 61 PKK terrorists in N.Iraq (aa, Jul 6, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/turkey-neutralizes-61-pkk-terrorists-in-niraq/1524912

“Turkey has “neutralized” at least 61 PKK terrorists during an ongoing counter-terrorism operation in northern Iraq, the Defense Ministry said on Saturday.

As part of the Operation Claw — which was launched on May 27 by the Turkish Armed Forces against the PKK terror group in the Hakurk region — a total of 110 mines and improvised explosives were annihilated so far, the ministry said in a statement.

A total of 151 shelters and ammunition depots used by the terror group were also destroyed.

Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized” in statements to imply terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including many women and children.”

  11. Nigerian school makes Muslim girls remove headscarves (aa, Jul 6, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/africa/nigerian-school-makes-muslim-girls-remove-headscarves/1524534

“Nigeria’s headscarf crisis festered Friday after footage emerged online of school guards and teachers ordering Muslim girls to remove their headscarves before entering a school compound in the southwestern town of Ibadan.

The video sparked outrage on social media as Nigerians took sides mostly along religious lines over a topic that has become the subject of a long-drawn legal war.

The 45-second clip was filmed at The International School, Ibadan.

“Let them go to hell!” a teacher was heard shouting at one student’s mother, who said the school’s action was a recipe for a national crisis.

“You people are just looking for a problem,” she jeered as her daughter was directed to pull off her hijab.

The teachers, however, said the children were free to wear the headscarves outside the school premises.

    -Outrage

Gimba Kakanda, a public affairs analyst, said the action taken by the school amounted to “targeted discrimination”.

“This video of students of The International School, Ibadan being forced to take off their hijabs before entering the school premises is dangerous in a world fighting to accommodate harmless differences. Banning headscarves is a targeted discrimination,” he tweeted.

“From New York to London, the world is making laws to accommodate diversity and recognize faith-based differences, [while] some local ‘international’ school in Ibadan is making a law to ban the hijab…We keep creating problems where there is none.”

Saint Hebrymore, another commentator, disagreed with Kakanda.

“School is not mosque or church. Dress with your school uniform and go to school. When you go out from school, you can continue with your faith.”

In a landmark judgment in 2016, Nigeria’s Appeal Court ruled that the hijab qualifies as a constitutional right and should be allowed in school or anywhere, striking down the ruling of a lower court that had upheld its ban in southwestern Lagos state. The government has since appealed the ruling.

The hijab crisis at the Ibadan school has also become the subject of litigation.”

  12. Thousands in Berlin protest Iran’s political repression (DW, Jul 6, 2019)
    https://www.dw.com/en/thousands-in-berlin-protest-irans-political-repression/a-49501155

“Opponents of Iran’s theocratic government have rallied in Berlin to protest the country’s human rights record. They urged potential investors not to support the regime and said the West should not deals with Tehran.

Thousands gathered in Berlin’s government quarter on Saturday to protest the Iranian government’s use of draconian measures against its opponents.

Protesters, who carried national flags and balloons in the national colors of green, white and red, voiced opposition to both the use of the death penalty and torture in prison.

“Down with the regime” was among the slogans chanted, along with: “The West should not enter into any compromise with religious fascism.”

A message from Maryam Rajavi, leader of the People’s Mujahedin of Iran, which seeks to topple the regime, was played to the crowd.

In it, Rajavi condemned the Iranian government for carrying out acts of terror in other countries. Among them, she said, were the Mykonos restaurant assassinations which targeted Iranian-Kurdish opposition leaders.

Rajavi called on Chancellor Angela Merkel to send a delegation to Iran to assess the state of prisons and Iran’s claims that there are no political prisoners and no torture in its jails.

Javad Dabiran, Berlin representative of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, told DW’s Farsi service that the Iranian government — under pressure at a national and international level — was increasingly resorting to the use of the death penalty and suppression of minority rights.

“This regime cannot be reformed,” said Dabiran. “We want to convey the message that any investment that seeks to change this regime from within is a mistake and that’s what Europeans are doing. For this reason, we’re calling on Germany and the European Union to rethink their policy because it is catastrophic.”

While organizers put the number of demonstrators at 15,000, police estimated it to be some 4,500. DW assessed the number to be somewhere between 7,000 and 8,000.

Iran has faced international criticism over its use of capital punishment. As well as using the death penalty for serious crimes like murder and rape, the country’s legal system also imposes the ultimate sanction for homosexuality and political dissidence.”

Little coverage was provided regarding how the entire plaza emptied out in minutes flat when it became known that Merkel was holding a willkommenskultur rally right next door.

Hell, even the Iranians attended to pick up some German cougars immigration pointers.

    • MEK = People’s Mujahedin of Iran

is an Iranian political-militant organization based on Islamic and socialist ideology.

[…]MEK was founded on 5 September 1965 by leftist Iranian students affiliated…to oppose the Mohammadreza Shah Pahlavi.

[…]The organization gained a new life in exile, founding the National Council of Resistance of Iran

[…]In 1986 the IRI requested France to expel the MEK from Paris, so it took base in Iraq where it fought against Iran during the Iran–Iraq War alongside the Saddam Hussein’s army,[…]and assisted Saddam’s Republican Guard in suppressing the 1991 nationwide uprisings against Saddam.

[…]The European Union, Canada and the United States formerly listed the MEK as a terrorist organization. This designation has since been lifted, first by the Council of the European Union on 26 January 2009, by the U.S. government on 21 September 2012, and lastly by the Canadian government on 20 December 2012

[…]Many experts, various scholarly works, media outlets, UNHCR, HRW and the governments of the United States and France have described it as a cult built around its leaders Massoud and Maryam Rajavi.

Maryam Rajavi: We call countries to join the international front against religious fascism

Berlin , Saturday, July 6, 2019 – The supporters and friend of the Iranian Resistance and freedom loving Iranians were accompanied by political dignitaries and members of Parliament in a major rally in Berlin.

This was the third such demonstration coming on the heels of large gatherings and marches by Iranians in Brussels and Washington, D.C. in June.

The message of the Berlin rally was specifically to Europe, to stop giving concessions to the religious fascism in Iran.

  13. London bloodbath: Woman and three children under 12 stabbed in Enfield (express, Jul 6, 2019)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1150120/london-stabbing-enfield-knife-crime-met-police

“A WOMAN and three children aged under 12 have been stabbed in north London.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the knifing at a property on Livingstone Road in Enfield just after midday. The victims were rushed to hospital and an 11-year-old girl remains in a critical condition. The woman in her 30s and two of the children are not in life-threatening conditions.

A neighbour said: “I heard screaming and then I saw a woman lying down on the ground where the police tent is.

“She looked in really bad shape. Then I saw a 10-year-old girl on the floor. She was in very bad shape too. I’m not sure about the others. It’s awful.

“I turned the radio off, then heard the screams separating, like three or four times within a few seconds, like ‘ahh… ahh… ahh’ as though something was happening to her.

“Then I saw one of my neighbour’s son’s, who is around 12-years-old, run from the balcony of their house in a panic.

“Then when I looked outside the window, I saw a black man wearing a red baseball cap, wearing a high vis jacket.

“He was standing at the top of the road. Then a couple of my neighbours were very animated, gesticulating at him and shouting at him.

“The police were there very quickly. They shouted at the guy, ‘don’t move, don’t move, stay here’. Then one of the police officers grabbed hold of him.

“The neighbours were talking considerably to the police. They were looking at the ground around him. I don’t know if there was a weapon, or what.

“I knew it was a stabbing. The police looked shocked. I’ve lived here for 20 years and nothing like this has happened before. But I was born in London and I know what it has become.

“I hope the woman and her family are okay. They are lovely people. I’ve gotten to know them very well over the past year.”

Another witness who lives across the road from the victims added: “I didn’t see the mum, but I saw and treated the children. We took a saucepan and water to try and treat the wounds. I’m really shaken.”

DS Joe Stewart from Enfield CID said: “This was an appalling attack on a woman and her young children. They have sustained very serious injuries. Our thoughts are with them as they continue to receive vital treatment in hospital.

“Attacks like this on such young people are extremely rare. At this early stage of the investigation, we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident. The attacker was known to the victims. There is no further risk to the public at this time.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting CAD3735/06July or Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111.”

  14. BREITBART – Report: Jeffrey Epstein Arrested in New York for Sex Trafficking of Minors

Billionaire Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in New York City on Saturday on sex trafficking-related charges, according to multiple reports.

NBC 4 New York, citing sources, reported court documents state that Epstein allegedly had sexual encounters with dozens of underage girls at his Palm Beach, Florida residence. According to authorities, the politically connected hedge fund manager employed “female fixers” who sought out the girls from all over the world for such encounters. Some of the girls were allegedly transported to his homes in New York City, New Mexico, and a private Caribbean island, according to court documents.

Law enforcement sources told NBC 4 New York that Epstein is expected to appear in federal court in Manhattan on Monday.

“It’s been a long time coming—it’s been too long coming,” David Boies, an attorney who represents a pair of Epstein accusers, said in a statement to the Daily Beast. “It is an important step towards getting justice for the many victims of Mr. Epstein’s sex trafficking enterprise.

“We hope that prosecutors will not stop with Mr. Epstein because there were many other people who participated with him and made the sex trafficking possible,” added Boies.

The development comes after a federal appeals court on Wednesday ordered the unsealing of nearly 2,000 pages of records related to a civil case that may contain lurid claims about the sexual history of the wealthy investor.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals’ ruling relates to records in a since-settled defamation case after Epstein in 2008 pleaded guilty in Florida to state charges of soliciting and procuring a person under age 18 for prostitution.

He was sentenced to 13 months in jail and was required to reach financial settlements with dozens of his once-teenage victims. Epstein, now 66, also was required to register as a sex offender.

Attorney Alan Dershowitz, the Miami Herald Co., and independent blogger Michael Cernovich sought the unsealing of records in the case. Dershowitz, a Harvard Law School professor who had worked on Epstein’s legal defense, sought the unsealing of records to fight what he called “outrageous and impertinent allegations” made against him, the 2nd Circuit noted.
