Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. Hundreds of African Migrants Now Crossing the Border
    June 17, 2019
    Daniel Greenfield

he world has gotten the message. The door is open. And everyone and their cousins, from around the world, are coming in an endless tide.

Democrats, the media and their judicial allies are keeping the door open. If we don’t close it, there will be no America.

In San Antonio, the city-run Migrant Resource Center has assisted about 300 African migrants who were apprehended at the border and released by the authorities since June 4. Those 300 are just a portion of the overall numbers. Since October 2018, more than 700 migrants from Africa have been apprehended at what has become their main point of entry, the Border Patrol’s Del Rio sector, a largely rural stretch of Texas border that is nearly 200 miles west of San Antonio.

Their arrival at the border and at two cities more than 2,100 miles apart — San Antonio and Portland, Me. — has surprised and puzzled immigration authorities and overwhelmed local officials and nonprofit groups. The surge has prompted Portland to turn its basketball arena into an emergency shelter and depleted assistance funds meant for other groups. Officials in both cities have had to reassure the public that fears of an Ebola outbreak were unfounded while also pleading for volunteer interpreters who speak French and Portuguese.

African migrants have shown up at the border in the past, but only in small numbers, making the sudden arrival of more than 700 all the more surprising to Border Patrol officials. From fiscal years 2007 to 2018, a total of 25 migrants from Congo and Angola were arrested and taken into custody in the Border Patrol’s nine sectors on the southern border, according to agency data.

    Why?

  3. Violence in Buttigieg’s Failed City Catches Up With Him on Campaign Trail

    Daniel Greenfield

In a 2020 field of odd candidates, Mayor Peter Buttigieg’s candidacy may be the strangest because his only actual credential (gay and Obameseque are not actual credentials) is running South Bend. One of the worst failed cities in Indiana. A truly miserable place.

The media has conveniently avoided allowing any scrutiny of South Bend or its huge crime rates. My articles about them have been virtually the only ones in, either the media, or much of the conservative media for that matter.

  4. Kerry State Department Promoted Steele Dossier and Russia Collusion Fantasy
“Let’s do a movie about this!”
    June 17, 2019
    Lloyd Billingsley

One day before the FBI launched its Trump-Russia investigation, Sovietophile academic Nellie Ohr, wife of DOJ boss Bruce Ohr and an employee of Fusion GPS, met with former British spy Christopher Steele. The upper reaches of the FBI and DOJ – Ohr, McCabe, Comey, Strzok, Page and such – have drawn the most attention in the fake Russia collusion story. It now emerges that the elusive Steele also deployed collaborators at the U.S. Department of State.

As 43 pages of documents obtained by Judicial Watch explain, “State Department ‘Special Coordinator for Libya’ Jonathan Winer played a key role in facilitating dossier author Christopher Steele’s access to other top government officials,” and “prominent international business executives.”

According to the Middle East Institute, Jonathan M. Winer was “deputy assistant secretary of state for international law enforcement, and counsel to United States Senator John Kerry.” Winer has written and lectured widely on, among other things, “corruption, and U.S.-Russia issues,” which seems somewhat removed from the Yale alum’s background.

In November of 2014, Winer sought to hook up Steele with Nelson Cunningham, president of McLarty Associates, a consulting firm co-founded by former Clinton White House Counselor Thomas ‘Mack’ McLarty. Winer’s email describes Steele as “an old friend of mine,” and “a former senior British intelligence officer focusing on former Soviet Union with a number of US and European private sector clients these days…”

  5. Ousted Egyptian President and Islamist Mohamed Morsi Suffers Heart Attack in Court, Dies — Was Supported by Obama

The trial of former Egyptian president and Muslim Brotherhood leader was launched in Cairo in 2014.

The Islamist president was ousted in a coup in 2013.
The Obama administration demanded that Egypt release Morsi after his detention following the coup.

During his 2014 trial the noticeably upset former president was placed in a sound-proof cage during the proceedings which aired on state television.

Morsi faced the death penalty in trial for prison escape.

  6. Supreme Court Tosses Ruling Against Oregon Christian Bakers Who Refused Cake For Gay Couple

The case involved Melissa and Aaron Klein of Oregon, who shut down their small bakery after a state agency fined them $135,000 for refusing to bake a wedding cake for two lesbians. The agency said the Kleins had violated the state’s public accommodation law.

The Kleins, though, cited their Christian beliefs as the reason they would not provide services for the gay couple. The case followed another from last year, in which Supreme Court justices ruled in favor of a Colorado baker.

The high court sent the Klein case back to a lower court “for further consideration in light of” their Colorado decision.

The Oregon case involved Rachel Bowman-Cryer, who went to the Sweet Cakes by Melissa in Gresham, Oregon, in January 2013 and inquired about a wedding cake. When Aaron Klein asked for the name of the groom, Bowman-Cryer said there wasn’t one. Klein told her the bakery does not bake cakes for gay weddings.

The Kleins were ordered to pay $135,000 to the couple for “discriminating against them in violation of a state public accommodations statute,” Fox News reported. The couple was forced to shut down their bakery.

    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1771771/iran-says-uncovers-american-%E2%80%98cyber-espionage-network%E2%80%99

“Iran said Monday that it had uncovered a large “cyber espionage network” run by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, said on Monday: “One of the most complicated CIA cyber espionage networks that had an important role in the CIA’s operations in different countries was exposed by the Iranian intelligence agencies a while ago and was dismantled.”

“We shared the information about the exposed network with our allies that led to the identification and arrest of CIA intelligence agents,” Shamkhani was quoted as saying by the state broadcaster IRIB.

He did not specify how many CIA agents were arrested and in what countries.

Shamkhani said without elaborating that some information about the case had been released by the United States, so Iran could now publish the information for the sake of public awareness.

US-Iran tensions are growing following accusations by US President Donald Trump’s administration that Tehran last Thursday attacked two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, a vital oil shipping route. Iran denies having any role.

Trump last year withdrew the United States from a 2015 international nuclear deal with Iran, and is ratcheting up sanctions seeking to end Iran’s international sales of crude oil and strangle its economy.

The United States has deployed a carrier strike group and bombers to the and announced plans to deploy 1,500 troops to the Middle East, prompting fears of a conflict.”

  12. ‘I use my pocket as a toilet,’ daughter of senior Brotherhood leader tells court (memo, Jun 17, 2019)
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190617-i-use-my-pocket-as-a-toilet-daughter-of-senior-brotherhood-leader-tells-court/

“The detained daughter of deputy leader of the Muslim Brotherhood Khairat Al-Shater told an Egyptian court on Saturday that she is using her pocket as a toilet and has demanded authorities give her full access to amenities within the prison.

Aisha Al-Shater was arrested along with her husband, the former spokesperson for the ECFR, in November 2018 after security forces raided her apartment late at night. She was disappeared for 28 days before reappearing in Qanateer women’s prison, just north of Cairo.

That night a total of 19 human rights activists were arrested including 60-year-old human rights activist and lawyer Hoda Abdelmonem. Widely circulated photos of the raid depicted overturned cupboards and her personal items strewn across the floor.

Since then, Aisha and her husband have been accused of belonging to a terrorist organisation and funding terror groups. Since the Muslim Brotherhood was designated a terror organisation in Egypt in 2013, thousands of its members have been detained.

At the end of March Aisha’s detention was renewed for 45 days pending investigation.

The cell in which Aisha is being held is two metres square with no windows, just a bucket in the corner. She has no access to a shower, a toilet, and she is not being provided with sanitary products.

In March, the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights launched the campaign Periods in Prison to pressure prison authorities to provide incarcerated women with sanitary products, access to clean water and toilets to prevent the spread of disease.

Women in Egyptian prisons must buy products from the prison canteen, or receive them from visitors, however some do not have the funds to do so and others are prohibited from family visits.

Aisha has been banned from receiving visitors, which is against Egyptian law. She has not seen her three children for eight months.

Her father and former presidential hopeful Khairat Al-Shater has been detained since July 2013, not long after Mohammed Morsi was overthrown. Given that she was not outspoken during Sisi’s rule, observers believe Aisha has been arrested because of her father.

Arresting family members as a punitive measure against figures the Egyptian regime sees as a threat is not new.

Last year, Ola Al-Qaradawi, the daughter of the influential Islamic scholar and opponent of the Sisi regime Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, became part of a geopolitical conflict between Qatar, where Al-Qaradawi lives, and Egypt, which has cut diplomatic ties with the Gulf State.”

  14. Police in Ceuta Question 40 Moroccans After Violent Brawl in Port (moroccoworldnews, Jun 17, 2019)
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2019/06/276066/police-ceuta-moroccans-port/

“The port of Ceuta, a Spanish enclave in the north of Morocco, witnessed a fight between a large group of Moroccan migrants on June 17. The Spanish news agency EFE reported that 40 people were arrested following an “intense fight.”

El Faro de Ceuta reports “About 60 of them occupied the port of the city to battle while there was only one police officer.”

The newspaper added “The members of the second Moroccan group were waiting for those in the southern region, accused of aggression and stealing.” The brawl escalated to include stone throwing, the destruction of vehicles, and arson on shipping containers. A port worker was reportedly injured in the hand during the fight.

“The situation of port employees can be described in one word: fear.” Stated El Faro de Ceuta.

The Civil Guard were sent early this morning to the port to end the conflict. They were joined by Reserve and Security Groups “RSG” and even the Maritime Service in an attempt to control the escalating dispute.

Thirty-six people were detained for investigation and a further four arrested for involvement in stone throwing and acts of arson.

El Faro de Ceuta pointed out “All arrested persons will be progressively transferred to the national police so that, under the Immigration Act, they are deported, except in the case of detention on behalf of detainees who have committed crimes that will be reported to the courts.””

    https://www.thelocal.se/20190617/19-cars-burned-in-suspected-arson-attack-in-stockholm

“Unknown criminals set fire to 19 cars in the Östberga area of southern Stockholm over the weekend.

Police and emergency services were alerted to the fires by multiple calls, and by 2am on Sunday morning had managed to extinguish them.

“When we got there, there were a lot of people at the scene and over ten cars were ablaze. But it’s extinguished now,” firefighter Christer Eriksson told SVT.

A total of 19 cars were damaged, according to a police statement.

Local resident Naji Ahmed was one of those whose car was completely destroyed in the fire.

Despite this, he told the TT newswire his experience of the neighbourhood was positive, saying: “I have lived here for 34 years and think it’s a safe area with good neighbours.”

Östberga is located south of the city centre and is one of several neighbourhoods classified by Swedish police as ‘vulnerable’, a name given to areas judged to be “characterized by a low socio-economic status where criminals have an impact on the local community”.

Police have classified the crime as gross infliction of damage.”

  16. Egypt: the Muslim Brotherhood in 10 dates (france24. Jun 17, 2019)
    https://www.france24.com/en/20190617-egypt-muslim-brotherhood-10-dates

“The Muslim Brotherhood, from which hailed Egypt’s former president Mohamed Morsi who died on Monday, is the oldest and biggest representative of political Sunni Islam in Egypt.

Here is a brief history of the movement:

    – Foundation –

In March 1928 the Muslim Brotherhood is founded in the Suez Canal city of Ismailiya by imam Hassan al-Banna, who takes the title of guide of the movement.

Its beginnings are as a welfare group, before taking on a political role, based on opposition to the British presence and in support of an Islamic state.

    – Banna killed –

In December 1948, a Muslim Brother assassinates prime minister Mahmud Fahmi al-Nuqrashi, who had ordered the Brotherhood dissolved. From then on the group is brutally repressed.

In February 1949 Banna is murdered by the secret police.

    – Sayyed Qotb executed –

In 1954, President Gamal Abdel Nasser decides to ban the Brotherhood after it is blamed for an assassination attempt against him.

In August 1966, Sayyed Qotb, a theoretician behind the movement who inspired its radicalisation, is hanged by Nasser’s regime.

Until Nasser’s death in 1970, the Muslim Brotherhood are arrested in their thousands or go underground.

    – Sadat assassinated –

In 1971, Anwar Sadat who succeeds Nasser as president and seeks to neutralise the Nasserian left, grants the Brotherhood’s leadership amnesties.

On October 6, 1981 Sadat, vilified by many in the wider Arab world for signing a peace treaty with Israel without obtaining concessions for the Palestinians, is assassinated by Islamic extremist soldiers.

    – Religious organisation –

In 1984 the regime of Sadat’s successor, Hosni Mubarak, recognises the movement as a religious organisation but refuses its registration as a political party. The Brotherhood fields candidates on independent tickets.

In 2005 after a breakthrough in legislative elections in which its sympathisers gain one-fifth of parliamentary seats, it emerges empty-handed from the first round of the 2010 elections and boycotts the second round, denouncing massive fraud.

    – Out of hiding –

On February 11, 2011 Mubarak steps down and hands his powers to the military on the 18th day of a popular uprising. The movement sides with the revolt progressively.

The Brotherhood founds its political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party.

The Muslim Brotherhood and Islamist allies clinch an overwhelming majority in staggered legislative polls in 2011-2012.

    – Morsi elected then ousted –

On June 30, 2012, Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate who won 51.73 percent of the vote in a presidential election, is sworn in as Egypt’s first head of state chosen in a free vote, and also the first Islamist and civilian to head the country.

On July 3, 2013, after massive popular demonstrations, the army ousts Morsi, who is arrested along with his guards.

    – Repression –

On August 14, 2013, security forces storm two huge Cairo protest camps occupied for weeks by supporters of Morsi, leaving 700 people dead in 12 hours, according to official sources.

In total more than 1,400 pro-Morsi protesters are killed over several months.

Most Muslim Brotherhood leaders and thousands of Islamist opponents are arrested. Hundreds, including Morsi, are sentenced to death.

    – ‘Terrorist organisation’ –

In late 2013, the Muslim Brotherhood is declared a “terrorist organisation” by the judiciary, before their political arm is dissolved in 2014.

In April 2019, the White House says that President Donald Trump plans to put the Brotherhood on the US terrorist blacklist.

The announcement comes three weeks after the visit to the White House of current Egyptian leader Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

    – ‘Slow death’-

On June 17, 2019, Morsi dies after falling ill during a court hearing, the attorney general says.

The Muslim Brotherhood accuses the Egyptian authorities of being responsible for Morsi’s “deliberate slow death”.”
