Special Report on Professor Ricardo Duchesne

Free Speech is Under Attack as Never Before at Universities

Most Canadians know about the experience of Lindsay Shepherd, the Communications graduate student at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario who was reduced to tears in a meeting with two bullying superiors, Professors Nathan Rambukkana and Herbert Pimlott, who told her she was “transphobic” and had created a toxic environment because she showed a 5-minute clip of Professor Jordan Peterson on a TV Ontario panel discussion about transgender pronouns. The two far-left professors, typical of their milieu and utterly confident in their moral right to dictate opinion–though strikingly inarticulate–told Lindsay that introducing a clip of Jordan Peterson “neutrally” was like showing a speech by Hitler without condemning Nazi ideology.

Jordan Peterson, it need hardly be said, is nothing like Hitler, yet the orthodoxy on university campuses today is so far to the Left that learned professors can make the comparison with a straight face. Many of them genuinely believe that anyone who dissents from their ideological program is equivalent to a Nazi and should be neutralized by any means necessary. Whether one objects to mass immigration, open borders, multiculturalism, Islamism, Indigenization, claims about rape culture, or unlimited abortion, the purveyors of approved thought at our universities are quick to label any heresy as unacceptable and even dangerous.

They will claim that the heretic creates an “unsafe” environment for “marginalized” students. They will link the dissenter’s expressed views (or will fabricate views so linked) to heinous calls for mass extermination and cruelty. They see nothing wrong with a far-left professor openly indoctrinating his or her students in the classroom, but they are willing to pressure their administrators to fire anyone, no matter how exemplary his teaching and research record, merely for expressing fact-based arguments with which they disagree.

Emboldened by an increase in their numbers and by supine university administrators willing to march to their drum, these professors increasingly act as a mob to target, un-person, and professionally destroy colleagues they despise. In Canada, dissident professors like Frances Widdowson, Jeff Muehlbauer, and Rick Mehta have been attacked by colleagues and students for disagreeing with academic doctrine about Indigenous science, residential schools, and other hot-button issues. Jeff Muehlbauer was forced to resign his position at Brandon University as a result, while Rick Mehta was recently fired by Acadia U.

In the United States, Rachel Fulton Brown and Michael Rectenwald, to name only two of the most recent victims, have been mercilessly hounded for objecting to academic totalitarianism. Rectenwald was forced out of his position at New York University. Many others, more obscure, have been drummed out of their jobs or cowed into silence by the baying mob.

At the present time, the University of New Brunswick has opened an investigation into Professor Ricardo Duchesne, who has been accused of “white supremacism” for views he expressed in his books, blog site, and in interviews. Professor Duchesne argues against mass immigration, which he predicts will damage the foundational European character of Canada. Two dozen of his colleagues authored an open letter claiming that he is unfit to teach because of his alleged extremism. Hit pieces have appeared in The Huffington Post, CBC News, and Global. The university administration is encouraging students to come forward with complaints about him. In other words, they are beginning to create their narrative: that Duchesne makes learning difficult for Indigenous and minority students. It doesn’t matter that it isn’t true: they will repeat it until enough people believe it.

Canada was once a nation that prized freedom of expression, and expected that it was upheld on university campuses. That is no longer the case. Alas, a new generation of students is being taught that there must be no freedom for so-called hate speech. The boundaries of acceptable expression are becoming narrower and narrower.

WHO IS DR. RICARDO DUCHESNE?

On the faculty of social sciences at the University of New Brunswick (St. John), Dr. Duchesne is a critic of both Canada’s multicultural policy and political correctness. Facing problems with his own university due to his political stances, he chose to focus his efforts on his work The Uniqueness of Western Civilization, published in 2011, a book that champions Western civilization, as the title suggests. By his own admission, Duchesne was a radical Marxist, who gradually over time moved to the political right. Perhaps where most of his troubles originate isn’t from the fact that he’s for the west and free speech, and against multiculturalism and political correctness, but Duchesne is a regular contributor for the Council of European Canadians, whose stated goal is to “oppose all efforts to deny or weaken the European character of Canada.”

 BACKGROUND:

His main fields of concentration were modern European history, political economy, and the philosophy of Hegel. Duchesne’s publications include 3 books, 51 refereed articles, one chapter, 13 encyclopedia entries, and numerous articles in magazines, newspapers, and academic online venues. His book, The Uniqueness of Western Civilization, a major work of 528 pages, was released in February 2011. In 2017 he published two books, Faustian Man in a Multicultural Age, and Canada in Decay: Mass Immigration, Diversity, and Ethnocide of Euro-Canadians.

Dr. Duchesne believes that the reading of great books, from cover-to-cover, is essential to a university education. The term ‘lecture’ was originally applied to the exercise of reading – and correcting – the language of handwritten texts. The task of the student was to follow the reading, and make the necessary corrections in the manuscripts. Since the texts were difficult, the teacher would concentrate on explaining and interpreting the manuscripts, line by line, word by word.

Knowledge is actually produced through continual reading, note-taking, dialogue, and rewriting. Duchesne upholds the traditional spirit of broad learning for the BA degree with a multidisciplinary core curriculum taught by generalists with a strong grounding in the Western intellectual tradition.

The White Supremacist Professor Teaching at a Public University

Although professors critical of Duchesne recognize that the principles of academic freedom are extremely important to uphold, even if they are sometimes taken advantage of, they also noted that the university has an obligation to guard its students from discrimination and disinformation.

“Imagine what it’s like to be a student who is a member of those groups this person is specifically targeting,” said Matthew Sears, a professor at the University of New Brunswick. “At what point does the university have a greater responsibility to ensure that [the] learning environment is welcoming and supportive of those students?”

Academics at University of New Brunswick criticize professor for alleged racist positions

“It’s an interesting case because for us academic freedom must always be given a broad and liberal interpretation, but that doesn’t mean it’s without boundaries,” Mr. Robinson said, citing professional ethics, the standards of an academic discipline and rules prohibiting discrimination. “The issue is whether there is any evidence to show that Prof. Duchesne, because of his extramural comments, is incompetent to be a teacher any more. That requires a thorough and rigorous investigation based on principles of due process and natural justice. … We don’t want to end up in a trial by social media.”

University of New Brunswick professor under investigation over white nationalist comments

Ricardo Duchesne, an immigrant from Puerto Rico, suggested in an interview with Global News that the federal government limit the number of immigrants it allows into the country to just 50,000 a year. “This is only being targeted against whites. So, I am asking that question, why is it that only certain people are targeted to be diversified and are not allowed to engage in criticism about this and have a discussion about it. I want to talk about my heritage and the ways in which immigration may overwhelm it and may just disintegrate it.”

Prof on free speech ‘sh*tlords’: ‘Fire them’ and ‘hound them from restaurants’

University of New Brunswick professor Matthew Sears claimed Sunday that “vile little sh*tlords” who belong to free speech-themed clubs on campus should lose their jobs and be chased out of restaurants. “We should name every white supremacist,” Sears said. “Name every writer, blogger, YouTuber, and politician that inspires them. Plaster their faces in public. Fire them from their jobs. Hound them from restaurants. Expose them and those that fuel them for the hateful pathetic wretches they are.”

Comment: Grace Likosa day ago

I was a former student of Matthew Sears, he attacks Professor Ricardo Duchesne on his twitter all day long. I have to say that Sears is the worst professor I have ever encountered. He spends most of the class trying to brainwash his students into believing his garbage leftist politics. You expect a prof to show composure, but Sears has a maniac’s face, he is a little snitch. UNB should be ashamed to have such a professor on their payroll.

FOR THE DEFENCE:

A Professor Who Argues Against Multicultural Ideology and for Western Exceptionalism Now Fears for His Job by David Solway

Before multiculturalism took root, Duchesne argues, Canada was not an immigrant nation, as the cliché has it, but a European nation built by settlers and pioneers. The same formulation applies to the U.S. and Australia. He notes a critical difference between categories of newcomers: pioneers create, immigrants contribute (at their best). Multiculturalism, however, which radically changes the identity of a country, is neither a creation nor a contribution; it is “an experiment imposed from above.” Tensions inevitably arise between the rapidly shrinking European majority and the multi-ethnic, culturally alien brew that is displacing it.

SAMPLE LETTERS TO THE DEAN:

Subject: concern about Ricardo Duchesne

Dear Dean MacDonald and VP Hauff,

I learned with concern today that Professor Ricardo Duchesne has been targeted for vigilante justice for his willingness to research and debate outside the narrow parameters of multicultural orthodoxy.

Professor Duchesne’s two books The Uniqueness of Western Civilization and Canada in Decay are thoroughly researched and fact-based monographs on a subject rarely addressed by scholars today, unless it is to point a finger while shouting “Racist! White Supremacist!” They rarely argue, and they do not care whether the outrageous charges are true or not–which they are not.

Professor Duchesne is doing exactly what scholars at liberal institutions of higher learning are supposed to do. He is pursuing truth and making arguments about important social issues even when his colleagues would forbid him from doing so. From what I have seen of Professor Duchesne’s interaction with students and other professors, he is a model of rigor and reason-based analysis.

The same, alas, cannot be said for his detractors. To get a flavor of the level of their academic integrity and rationality, please take a look at the Twitter posts of Professor Matthew Sears, who brings internet troll invective and character assassination to embarrassing new levels.  If I were a student, I would far prefer to learn from Professor Duchesne. Imagine trying to disagree with Professor Sears!

I sincerely hope that you will tell the braying mob that Professor Duchesne has the right to pursue his teaching and research interests without fear of personal attack and attempts to have him fired or arrested. Shame on anyone who suggests otherwise.

If I can answer any of your questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at this email address.

Best wishes,

Dear Ms MacDonald, Dear Ms Hauff,

I am deeply concerned about how Professor Duchesne has been constantly attacked by Professor Sears by simply using childish terminology used by the left to shut down any conversation that doesn’t fit their narrative.

I love debates and I grew up debating.

What Professor Sears does is NOT debating, but simply smearing Professor Duchesne.

Usually, such attacks have a deeply personal reason caused, most of the time, by envy.

If we check on Amazon, we can see the difference: Duchesne’s book is extremely successful, while Sear’s …not even close.

Personal rivalry is not a new thing. It has taken place in literature, music, arts.

Sometimes, it can get out of control.

Professor Sears is conducting a bully-type of campaign against Professor Duchesne on Twitter.

He doesn’t bring intellectual arguments, only the leftist terminology which, we know, is empty of any intellectual value.

If Mr Sears is so concerned about Mr Duchesne, why not challenge him and have a debate like Jordan Peterson vs Slavoj Žižek?

This is Canada, we champion freedom of speech and thought and we criticize Saudi Arabia, Iran and North Korea, but we silence our voices?

If Professor Sears is so worried about “white supremacy” (only an idiot could call himself a white supremacist), is he equally worried about black supremacy, Islamic supremacy, Chinese supremacy, Hindu supremacy, etc.?

Thank you and may you be guided by the principles of the genuine academic spirit.

Best wishes,

Dear Dean Heidi MacDonald and Vice-president Petra Hauff,

Professor Ricardo Duchesne is a heretic and the high priests of social justice are demanding that he be burned at the stake.

Duchesne does not quietly accept the dogma that today’s universities are about providing a “safe space” to students and must never subject them to any information they might find offensive. He stubbornly holds on to that old-fashioned notion that universities should be places of intellectual inquiry where students are exposed to many different ideas some of which might even offend them. That Professor Duchesne is under investigation is a reflection of how far universities have left behind the concept of free inquiry to embrace the culture of conformity to “social justice” norms. I think that a not insignificant number of today’s students will someday understand and possibly resent that rather than being taught and encouraged to think critically, the university education they paid good money for was primarily about indoctrination and how not to rock any ideological boats.

I am saddened to see how the term “hate speech” is being broadly defined to tarnish anyone who engages in “wrong think” when it comes to multiculturalism, social justice and any other sacred cows. It would be to UNB’s discredit to fire Professor Duchesne for his opinions but very much in keeping with the totalitarian direction that we seem to be headed in Canada.

Yours sincerely,

Subject: Professor Ricardo Duchesne

Dear Ms. Macdonald and Ms. Hauff,

You should be proud to have a renowned Professor such as Dr. Ricardo Duchesne as one of your University’s esteemed lecturers. His research is impeccable on our European heritage and just because there are those who disagree with him is no reason to throw him under the bus. Do you not see that this is just another example of isolating anyone who does not follow the prescribed “diversity is our strength” mantra but who rejects political correctness by having the courage to disagree?  Do you not care about free speech?  Do you not want someone in your corner fighting to save Western civilization? How does this make him a “white Nationalist”? Because the Canadian Anti-Hate Network (the Canadian SPLC) says so?  Is University not the real forum for debating, disagreeing, arguing and disputing ideas?

I urge you to have the courage to stand up and fight for the diversity of IDEAS and to stand tall in the fight for truth. Do not allow a few disgruntled losers to dictate against the high standards of your distinguished University.

Your sincerely,

Dear Dean Heidi MacDonald and VP Petra Hauff:

I am one of Professor Ricardo Duschene’s student victims.  I thought all was well until his tenth lecture when he claimed that the accomplishments of Western civilization represented the pinnacle of human endeavour.  As a person of colour, I found this learned observation deeply hurtful.

As a matter of fact, it irrevocably crippled my self-esteem to the point that I had to seek therapy. I was so traumatized that I avoided Chemistry class for fear that a professor might attribute a scientific breakthrough to the efforts of white European males like Louis Pasteur, Robert Boyle, Michael Faraday and other lightweights. I also skipped English literature because I thought that white ethnocentric novels written by people like Thomas Hardy, Joseph Conrad, E. M. Forster, James Joyce, and Charles Dickens might be required reading.    Physic classes were similarly unsafe, because white hegemonist course outlines indicated that dead white males like Newton, Einstein and Neils Bohr were to be credited with major discoveries.

Curiously, no mention was made of the stunning discoveries and insights that African shamans and North American aboriginals provided humanity.  It is obvious that UNB is rife with systemic discrimination, which Professor Duschene so blatantly symbolizes.

It is high time that people realized that universities are not designed for the purpose of pursuing truth or acquiring knowledge, but to ensure that young adults are not exposed to ideas that make them feel uncomfortable.  If they are sheltered from opinions that they choose to find offensive, then they can become ideal citizens for the hot house post national state that progressives aim to establish.

That is what taxpayers pay for, and that is the Canada they want to live in. Not a democracy, but one vast Diversity Awareness and Sensitivity Workshop. Professor Duschene’s lectures and books clearly run afoul of this noble goal.  The truth of the matter is that truth is offensive and facts are insensitive.  Consequently, they have no place in any classroom in Canada.

Of course, if students were taught critical thinking skills, they would not be vulnerable to any set of falsehoods or propaganda. There would be no

To diminish the enormous research that Professor Duschene conducts for his books, nor campaign for his dismissal. Students could be trusted to consider arguments on their own merits without casting aspersions on the professor who wages them.

Nonetheless it would be more cost efficient to simply broaden and enforce suffocating speech codes, ban heretical speech, de-platform politically incorrect guest lecturers and fire dissident professors. So, by all means, bend to the lynch mob and can this guy.  After all, academic freedom and tenure were only meant to protect the jobs of professors who will promote the state religion of multiculturalism.

Sincerely yours, S.N.O. Flake

OTHER PROFESSORS BEING ATTACKED:

Prof. Ahmed F. Ibrahim – McGill University

Did #MeToo activists target a top Canadian prof for his blunt lessons about Islam? By Barbara Kay

In January 2017, student Sarah Abdelshamy, who is today the subject of Ibrahim’s defamation lawsuit, enrolled in his 300-level Islamic law course. According to multiple witness testimonies, including notarized affidavits from students in the same class (included in the documents), from the outset Abdelshamy manifested hostility in class to Ibrahim’s objective teaching method.

Abdelshamy’s accusations of Islamophobia against a Muslim professor didn’t catch fire. But dormant, sexually charged insinuations, like those from MG — more than two years past — made excellent tinder for the blaze.

Up went a Facebook page with vague but sinister insinuations: “Have you had bad experiences with Prof. Ahmed F. Ibrahim? You’re not alone. He’s up for tenure this year. The time to act is now!” Posters with that message were hung around the school, along with stickers alleging inappropriate behaviour with female students.

Dr. Jordan Peterson – University of Toronto

Toronto professor Jordan Peterson takes on gender-neutral pronouns

University of Toronto psychology professor Jordan Peterson had enough of what he saw as a campus culture where “social justice warrior, left-wing radical political activists” ran rampant. He zeroed in on Canadian human rights legislation that prohibits discrimination based on gender identity or expression.

“I’ve studied authoritarianism for a very long time – for 40 years – and they’re started by people’s attempts to control the ideological and linguistic territory,” he told the BBC. “There’s no way I’m going to use words made up by people who are doing that – not a chance.”

THIS conversation, right here, is exactly what the professor is fighting to KEEP. Any laws or policies that make having discussions like this impossible must be prevented from being enacted.

TOP 10 CONTEMPORARY ACADEMICS HELPING THE POLITICAL LEFT

When you cross a moderate or open minded leftist (the rarest of all left-wing species), I’d hate for you to be ill prepared. I don’t know if you’ll be successful in converting them, but I’ll be damned if they continue to call us dumb. That’s exactly why I have compiled a list of the top ten contemporary academics helping the right-wing cause. They have published books, articles and journals, made videos of public talks and lectures, but more importantly, they have PhDs. We all know that when the left is confronted with facts they don’t like, they magically become particularly fond of an appeal to authority.

    Conformists.

The beginning of wisdom is to fear our God.
The beginning of wisdom is to fear our People.

Whereas it has always been Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. The spirit within. Your conscience. And then, and only then, to be able to enlighten and love your neighbor as yourself.

Otherwise, the beginning of wisdom is to fear our Offence.

To tip-toe around every ego and never please. And then to get to college finally face these muslims, Communists and Sexuals, (bucks, cucks and sucks), as your peers and teachers. Pretend people. Demanding recognition and patronage.

The hypnosis of intense study to radicalize you.

  2. It was at the corner of Fifteenth and Warmsley that I met myself. I don’t know quite how to put it better. There I was, me, or should I say another me, in the flesh. Just imagine meeting yourself, just as you are, while you’re walking downtown on a beautiful May morning. What do you say to yourself? What do you think of yourself? How do you feel once you’ve departed yourself?

I invited myself to lunch. Yes, it was a little early but I wasn’t sure what else to say. I made a joke about it but this fell flat. We sat at the window seat at, of all places, that gag and puke joint Randy’s. The waitress couldn’t stop staring at us. We weren’t even dressed the same.

I admit I had imagined this scenario before. However whenever I began to enjoy such a reverie it tripped and fell. –Got too twisted and complicated. The same will happen to you too, if it hasn’t already. Suddenly you’re an Escher drawing.

But now, in the flesh, was it to be any different than a failed daydream? The answer is yes, it was.

I, or we, tried being funny. We poked and prodded. I didn’t get all my witticisms. I wasn’t sure where I was going with the conversation. I thought I was kind of weird, and not as smart as I thought I was. I wasn’t as handsome as I thought I was, either. I’m getting old. I can’t really say that I disliked myself, but to be honest I truly was in many nuanced ways an utter stranger.

But then the weirdest thing happened. A man walked into the restaurant, threw a prayer rug down on the floor between the tables, then got down and began praying to Mecca. Ok, so I’ve heard of Muslims in places like London making big demonstrations in the streets with their prayers. They want to be as disruptive as they can be without getting arrested. They want to impose their way, their God, their supremecy on non-believers. I get it.

What I didn’t expect, as we and everyone else in the place had to stop and listen while this person yammered on with his arse in the air, was ANOTHER HIM entering shyly through the doorway. All heads turned from the fascist, to the other him standing there at the entrance. He put his finger to his lips to shush us all. “I’m his conscience,” he whispered to the room.

His conscience looked very sad. He looked like a guy who had locked himself out of his apartment without a key, and was embarrassed by it. He clearly had been wandering for a while. Maybe years. It was clear that the poor fellow had been sentenced to a purgatory of trailing behind himself, forever hoping for an opportunity to be invited back in. Alas, this seemed to us an unlikely ending to their story.

Transfixed were we by this oddest of scenes. And when finally the fascist on the floor reared his arse one last time, his other self slid meekly back out the doorway, placing his finger again to his lips, finally, as he recoiled back to the shadows of his mind.

When it was all over I turned back to face myself across the table. I had disappeared, but by now I understood where I had come from, and where I had gone. Our chance meeting was over, but I had left money on the table to pay for lunch, including enough for a very generous tip. My spirit felt whole and hearty, happy and wise.

A solitary page. Half-a-dozen hundred words. A double handful of paragraphs. Just over three thousand characters (numerals shall not sully these sentences) with spaces. Thirty-seven lines which sketch an artful prime. Their number, all images indivisible from the pen’s lord and master.

And what spaces. There’s room enough for two. You and a merely more boyish self—for an imagination like yours can never be said to ever have truly grown up—through time and space. Spun into an impossible two different times at one single place.

And he would laugh with keen Jewish humor at the notion of ascribing a once-innocent, and now sorely embarrassed young conscience, abashedly trailing, more often now, dogging the adult him whose unwholesome zeal so desecrates the temple of that distressed youth’s spirit.
