Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. New York City Will Show How the Green New Deal Works
Banning skyscrapers, shoving wind turbines on every roof and shutting down all the power.
    May 1, 2019
    Daniel Greenfield

A ban on skyscrapers. Wind turbines in the middle of one of the most overcrowded and noisiest cities on earth. Billions in building renovation costs. Stopping natural gas. Shutting down all the power plants.

The Green New Deal is coming to New York City.

“We are going to ban the glass and steel skyscrapers which are inefficient,” Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on MSNBC.

That was the first warning most New Yorkers got of what their radical city government had wrought.

“We’re actually making the Green New Deal come alive here in New York City,” the leftist mayor explained. As if anyone except for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez thought that was a good thing.

The Big Apple has no cows to ban. And without planes, it would be cut off from the rest of the planet. But its version of the Green New Deal will still find dozens of ways to make New Yorkers miserable.

Bill de Blasio claimed that the city would switch completely to ‘renewables’ in only 5 years. That would be a spectacular achievement since neither solar nor wind energy work all that well in New York.

  2. Kuwait Inaugurates Massive Causeway to Free Trade Zone (aawsat, May 1, 2019)
    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1703661/kuwait-inaugurates-massive-causeway-free-trade-zone

“Kuwait on Wednesday inaugurated one of the world’s longest causeways, linking the oil-rich Gulf state’s capital to an uninhabited border region set to become a major free trade hub.

The 36-kilometre (22-mile) bridge connects Kuwait City to the northern desert area of Subbiya, where Kuwait aims to create the “Silk City” project linking the Gulf to central Asia and Europe, explained AFP.

The “Jaber” bridge, named after late ruler Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, spans 36 kilometers (22 miles), three-quarters of it over water.

It cuts the driving time between Kuwait City and Subbiya, close to both Iraq and Iran, from 90 minutes to less than half an hour.

Investment in the Silk City project is expected to top $100 billion, and a 5,000-megawatt power plant has already been built in Subbiya.

The $3.6 billion causeway, designed by Paris-based engineering and consulting group Systra, took five years to build.

The work was carried out by a consortium led by South Korea’s Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co. along with Kuwait’s Combined Group Contracting Co.

The opening ceremony was attended by Kuwait’s emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah along with South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon and the leader of the French senate, Gerard Larcher.

Lee Nak-yeon said Wednesday the causeway would establish Kuwait as an international trade center.”

  3. Many Saudis cancel travel plans to Turkey during summer vacation (saudigazette, May 1, 2019)
    http://saudigazette.com.sa/article/565300/SAUDI-ARABIA/Many-Saudis-cancel-travel-plans-to-Turkey-during-summer-vacation

“A large number of Saudi nationals have canceled their flight reservations to Turkey where they planned to spend the summer vacation due to deteriorating security and economic conditions in the country in addition to alleged maltreatment of Saudi tourists.

Some travel agencies estimated the number of Saudis who canceled their reservations to Turkish destinations at about 80 percent.

The travel agents said the Saudis were now changing their destinations to more stable countries including Bosnia, Poland, Croatia where Saudi tourists would be safe and well treated.

They said the Saudis changed their travel plans to Turkey because of the deteriorating economic and security conditions in the country, as well as the disappearance of a number of Saudi and GCC tourists while visiting Turkish cities…”

  5. Top US newspapers warn against designating Brotherhood (memo, May 1, 2019)
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190501-top-us-newspapers-warn-against-designating-brotherhood/

“The New York Times and Washington Post newspapers have published pieces critical of ongoing considerations aimed at designating the transnational Muslim Brotherhood a foreign terrorist organization, Anadolu reports.

“Is the Muslim Brotherhood a Terrorist Group?” the New York Times asks. “Even experts critical of the Brotherhood agree that the organization does not meet the criteria for a terrorist group.”

The newspaper pointed to legal difficulties the decision poses, noting that the Trump administration would have to present evidence the group engages in “terrorist activity” that threatens America or its interests, and that rationale would have to be vetted through an interagency process that includes the State, Justice and Treasury departments.

After the designation is made Congress would have a week to block it, and the brotherhood would have a month to appeal the decision in court.

The White House confirmed Tuesday the Trump administration is seeking to blacklist the group following a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi…”

  6. Moroccan Police Tell Spain of More Seville Terrorist Suspects (moroccoworldnews, May 1, 2019)
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2019/05/271967/moroccan-police-tell-spain-of-more-seville-terrorist-suspects/

“Based on leaked information, a Spanish news outlet said Morocco and Spain are investigating possible “fledgling” terrorist cell in Seville, following the interrogation of a Moroccan terrorist suspect.

Rabat – Moroccan and Spanish police are investigating more terrorist suspects connected to a foiled plot to attack Seville during Holy Week.

Moroccan police arrested Zouhair Bouhdidi, suspected of planning the attack, in Casablanca on April 9. Although Spain had been tracking the 23-year-old, who studies at the University of Seville, Spanish police had not ordered his arrest there but only requested it after Bouhdidi traveled to Morocco, according to Spanish outlet ABC.

Following Moroccan interrogations of Bouhdidi, Morocco gave Spain information that Bouhdidi revealed names related to a fledgling terrorist cell in Seville, according to a source of the Spanish news outlet.

The interrogations of Bouhdidi led to Spain’s arrest, on April 20, of another University of Seville student, Salah Eddine T.M., 21, a friend of Bouhdidi. Spanish police released T.M. on probation on April 23 but confiscated his passport.

The Spanish government also closed T.M.’s Facebook account upon his arrest after it had been set to public, reportedly showing his love for sport and his country of origin, Morocco, according to one Moroccan outlet.

According to Huffpost, Bouhdidi is the son of an imam, Abderrahim Bouhdidi, who is in charge of a mosque in Seville.

Bouhdidi and T.M. visited Morocco during April, when Morocco arrested Bouhdidi, but T.M. was able to return to Spain, according to ABC’s information.

The information also said Bouhdidi was in touch with an ISIS leader in a conflict zone via social media.

The Spanish outlet EFE reported that Bouhdidi was planning a “lone wolf” attack until an ISIS leading figure asked him not to. The figure asked Bouhdidi to wait and form a terrorist cell to act on orders from ISIS.

The Spanish authorities arrested 58 terrorists in Spain in 2018, marking the second largest number of arrests in the last decade after the 102 arrested in 2015, indicating a rise in the recruitment of Moroccans in Spain.

According to the Moroccan outlet, the number of terrorists of Moroccan origin suspected of having links with ISIS has risen, representing 64% of those detained in 2018.”

  7. Turkey slams US over religious freedom report (hurriyetdailynews, May 1, 2019)
    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkey-slams-us-over-religious-freedom-report-143084

“Turkey has lashed out at a United States’ commission report scrutinizing the state of religious freedoms in the world for describing FETÖ as a Sunni group facing persecution by the Turkish government.

“Describing the members of FETÖ as Sunni Muslims facing persecution openly manifests, from the very beginning, that this report is biased, dislocated from reality and written under the influence of … evil groups,” read a statement issued by Hami Aksoy, spokesman of the Turkish foreign ministry on May 1.

FETÖ categorization as a terrorist organization has been confirmed through court decisions. The description of FETÖ in the annual report by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) means tolerating terror, Aksoy said.

FETÖ leader Fetullah Gülen, whom Turkey has sought to extradite from the U.S., and his followers are accused of overthrowing the government, Turkish ministry spokesman added.

USCIRF placed Turkey on its Tier list, along with other 11 countries, meaning the violations meet one or two, but not all three, of the elements of the systematic, ongoing egregious test for “countries of particular concern” (CPCs).

“The government continued to allege that Gülen and his followers were behind the plot to overthrow the government, although only a small minority has been charged with participation in the coup attempt. The government labeled Gülen and his followers a terrorist organization in May 2016 and refers to them as the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ),” read the report.

Aksoy also criticized the report for alleging that a joint communiqué signed by the religious representatives of all non-Muslim communities in 2018 was coordinated by the Turkish state. He said alone this claim reveals that the report was prepared on political motives.

“Criticisms against Turkey by the U.S. administration and the Congress, which could not digest the election of a Muslim to the House Representatives, fail to show sufficient will in the fight against Islamophobia and to prevent attacks against their own religious minorities, are a display of inconsistency,” said Aksoy.

Two Muslim women were elected to Congress in 2018: Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan.

He also characterized Turkey as the best example for the world of different religions and faiths cohabitating in peace at a period when religious freedoms are under growing threats of terrorist organizations.”

  8. FETO in Pakistan terror list (aa, May 1, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/asia-pacific/feto-in-pakistan-terror-list/1467196

“The Pakistani government on Wednesday declared a FETO-linked organization in the country a terror outfit.

FETO, an acronym for Fetullah Terrorist Organization, orchestrated the failed 2016 coup bid in Turkey which martyred 251 people and injured nearly 2,200.

An official notification was released after the top court upheld its decision to declare the outfit as a terror group and rejected a review petition in the case.

“The federal government hereby orders Pak-Turk International CAG Education Foundation to be a proscribed organization,” the notification by the Interior Ministry said.

In December, the top court had directed the government to freeze bank accounts of FETO-linked foundations and give custody of assets to Turkey’s Maarif Foundation.

Turkey established the Maarif Foundation in 2016 to take over the administration of overseas schools linked to FETO.

All 28 schools affiliated with FETO have been handed over by Pakistani authorities to Maarif Foundation.

Ankara accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary.”

  9. 165 irregular migrants held across Turkey (aa, May 1, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/165-irregular-migrants-held-across-turkey/1467610

“At least 165 irregular migrants were held across Turkey on Wednesday, according to security sources.

Gendarmerie forces held 79 irregular migrants trying to illegally cross to Europe in the southwestern Mugla province, a source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

In another operation, 36 irregular migrants who entered Turkey illegally — 19 from Afghanistan and 17 from Pakistan — were held in Ipekyolu in the eastern Van province.

In the northwestern province of Kirklareli, gendarmerie forces held seven Afghan migrants in a truck in Luleburgaz, while in an another operation, 11 irregular migrants were held in Kofcaz.

    The truck driver was arrested.

Separately, police forces held six irregular migrants trying to illegally cross to Greece.

Additionally, in Antakya, in the southern border province of Hatay, security forces held 26 Syrian irregular migrants.

All the migrants were later referred to provincial migration directorates.

  10. Asylum families will not be allowed to make own meals at Danish deportation centre: minister (thelocal, May 1, 2019)
    https://www.thelocal.dk/20190501/asylum-families-will-not-be-allowed-to-own-food-at-danish-deportation-centre-minister

“Families of rejected asylum seekers accommodated at the Sjælsmark facility for people awaiting deportation from Denmark are not permitted to prepare their own food.

The long-standing policy at the centre, which provides food at a canteen but not cooking facilities for residents, will continue, Minister for Immigration and Integration Inger Støjberg has confirmed.

Critics of the Sjælsmark centre have called for the policy to be changed, arguing that it denies a basic freedom to refugees including children whose asylum claims have not been approved, but have also not committed any crime.

Støjberg rejected a recommendation that families at the controversial facility could be permitted to make their own food.

“Rejected asylum seekers are not offered households – i.e., facilities for making food themselves – because the position of the government is that it should be made clear that rejected asylum seekers are not welcome in Denmark and should travel home,” the minister said.

Last month, the Danish Red Cross published a report which showed that the well-being of children is being severely impacted by conditions at Sjælsmark…”

  11. Portland Antifa group claims vandalism act: Flooding office of lawyer for ICE union
    John Sexton, Hot Air

[Ed. – The question seems to be whether the local authorities will do anything about it. Their track record on that is terrible. The responsible citizens of Portland seem to be pretty much on their own as regards vandalism and property damage at this point.]

Portland Antifa group flooded the office of lawyer representing ICE’s union

John SextonPosted at 7:21 pm on April 30, 2019

An Antifa group in Portland decided to punish a lawyer representing the union for Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents by flooding his office. Oregon Live reports Sean Riddell’s law office suffered thousands of dollars in damage from the act of vandalism:

Sometime over the weekend, anonymous vandals stuck a garden hose through the front-door mail slot of lawyer Sean Riddell’s Northeast Portland office and left the water running.

Someone who works in the office — a house converted into business space — discovered the mess about 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Riddell and lawyer Christine Mascal, who run separate legal practices under the same roof, wondered if someone targeted one of them because of a case or whether it was a random vandal, Riddell said.

There are photos of the damage here. As you can see, most of the wood flooring on the first floor and the carpeting in the basement have to be torn up and replaced. The drywall in the basement has been pulled down and the paint was ruined along the walls. Riddell believes the damage will amount to several thousand dollars but expects his insurance will cover it.

Richard: As the victims refuse to be bullied antifa will continue to increase the level of violence, the next step is probably going to be severally beating and/or crippling their target. When this doesn’t scare people enough they will start killing people.

    • From what I have heard this one is worth the time it takes to watch.

He is spelling out the reasons for the coming civil war and is telling us to get read for a bloody upraising by the left.

    • 25 minutes in and he is saying that there will be a major revolt from the people and the military if one of the Progressive Dems becomes President. However he so far hasn’t talked about what the antifa types are going to do when the indictments on Brennan and other members of the coup are announced. That is when we are going to discover how many of the Dems and Propaganda Media are going to revolt and how many are going to try and stay out of the pen by ratting out the others.

      • 40 minutes in he thinks the indictments will be coming in slowly over the next year. This will mean that the indictments will be a major problem for the Dems during the Primaries and the General Election.

    • Even if I gave a raw prawn about everything else, I’d still have to cheer on Pauline Hanson just for go relatively uncovered during her jaunt through Lakemba. In Muslim eyes, those bare arms and shoulders marked her for a two-bit whore, right down to the bag of quarters.

Like Fraser Anning, Hanson has the gumption to nakedly state that her walk was through surroundings which hold out ZERO promise of assimilating into Australian culture. Pauline earns extra praise for talking about “planting the flag” amidst so much obvious colonization.

It will be the death of Australia that Hanson and Anning are in the minority.
