Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We muse use it while we can.

  1. Daesh Planning Repeat of Paris-Style Attacks Using Migrants – Reports (sputniknews, Apr 15, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/world/201904151074159377-daesh-hard-drive-reveals-strategy/

“A trove of documents reportedly found in a computer hard drive in Syria belonging to Daesh militants suggest that the terrorists are looking for new ways to stay relevant following the collapse of their Middle Eastern ‘caliphate’.

Daesh (ISIS)* has tasked at least one of its members with organising the movement of militants disguised as migrants into Europe while “taking out brothers who have been given jobs,” The Times has reported, citing information gleaned from a computer found in a Syrian battle zone earlier this year.

Files show that despite its recent defeats in Syria and Iraq, the terrorist group continues to plan attacks like the one in Paris in November 2015, which left over 130 people dead and hundreds injured. The documents specifically mention Paris, as well as the October 2017 New York City truck attack, as examples to be emulated.

A separate letter, reportedly penned by a terrorist commander named Abu Taher al-Tajiki, proposes picking targets so as to “destroy the economic world in Europe and spread horror in the hearts of the enemies of Allah,” with targets set to include a high-speed train in Germany and an oil pipeline running to a refinery near Base, Switzerland. The attacks were supposed to have taken place earlier this year.

The Times pointed out that German police did discover a Daesh flag near the train tracks in Berlin late last year after finding damage to a section of wires over the tracks, with a man arrested in Vienna in March in connection with the act of sabotage.

Another chilling letter, addressed to the terror group’s elusive leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and reportedly written by Daesh’s Europe-based followers, warns that sympathisers remain under Baghdadi’s command, and subject to his orders to “strike the enemies of Allah in Europe.”

Finally, the hard drive files included a letter signed by six commanders, again addressed to al-Baghdadi, proposing a strategy of vehicle rammings, assassinations to inspire terror, as well as bank robberies and computer hacking to raise money and fuel chaos.

“Killing infidel venture capitalists, hacking banks through bank accounts, bank robberies or robberies of places that are pre-studied. After any operation of this kind, we will send the money as we procure it,” the letter proposes, hinting at the group’s cash-strapped status.

  2. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A fire forced an iconic church in upper Manhattan to hold Palm Sunday services outdoors.

Parishioners moved to the lawn of the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in Morningside Heights on Sunday morning.

Smoke filled the cathedral shortly after 10 a.m. after a fire started in the basement, officials said.

    No one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

  3. Note: this 2016 story takes on new relevance today

PARIS (AP) — French police detained three women after a violent standoff Thursday in a terrorism investigation into six gas canisters found in a car abandoned near Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral.

The discovery of the mysterious car has revived worries about the threat of new attacks in France, already repeatedly targeted by Islamic State extremists. Seven people are now in custody in the Notre Dame case, including those with links to radical Islam.

In the Thursday night operation in Boissy-Saint-Antoine, one of the women attacked police, and one suspect and one police officer were injured, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve told reporters.

“France is confronted with a terrorist threat of unprecedented scale,” Cazeneuve said. “It requires the vigilance of all our compatriots.”

  6. Sources: Former FBI Agent Peter Strzok Could Face Serious Charges

Former FBI Agent Peter Strzok could face ‘serious’ charges for his involvement and actions in the bureau’s probe of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private server to send classified emails, as well as the FBI’s investigation into President Trump’s campaign, multiple sources with knowledge of Strzok’s actions told SaraACarter.com.

Further, sources contend that the nearly year long investigation by DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz, will reveal explosive information and shed light on alleged malfeasance by FBI and DOJ officials directly involved in the Russia investigation. The Inspector General’s report may be completed as early as May or June, according to testimony provided this week by Attorney General William Barr.

  8. Former Obama Border Patrol Director: Crisis At Border Is Worst ‘In The History Of This Country’

Former U.S. Border Patrol chief Mark Morgan, who served during the Obama administration, says the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border is the worst “in the history of this country.”

Morgan, who has been defending President Trump in his efforts to stem the flow of illegal aliens into the U.S., gave a frank assessment of the situation in a Monday interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News Business.

“Make no mistake, and I’ve been trying to get out here — this isn’t just a crisis, this is a crisis like we’ve never experienced in the history of this country since we started tracking numbers,” Morgan said today. “And again, we’ve had that talk and that’s because of the demographics. There’s still this very false talking point out there that — well, back in the ’90s, the numbers were higher — over a million.”

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), an Afghan War veteran who lost an eye in an IED attack, is now under an avalanche of leftist mockery simply for daring to suggest that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) downplayed the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks when she referred to them as “some people did something” in a speech last week.

  10. CNN, Former Ocasio-Cortez Staffer Claim Conspiracy Theory Behind Omar Criticisms

CNN’s Brian Stelter and far-left former Ocasio-Cortez staffer Waleed Shahid suggested on Sunday that there is a conspiracy theory behind the criticisms of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN).

Stelter defended Omar’s trivialization of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which she described as “some people did something.”

“This controversy was created,” Stelter said. “Omar’s comment was used as a weapon against her.”

mmediately after Stelter made his remarks, he brought Shahid on his show, who claimed that there was a massive conspiracy theory behind the criticisms of Om

Shahid claimed that billionaires were secretly trying to “defame and destroy the character of Ilhan Omar” because they want to protect themselves from being taxed more and they don’t want people to get healthcare.

“So many stories are like this. First of all it starts off with alt-right, far-right Twitter. Then it goes to the Daily Caller which boosts it up. Then it goes to outlets like Fox News. Then it’s the entire Republican Party is united around a singular message, which is to defame and destroy the character of Ilhan Omar. Like you were saying, it is part of this long 50-year strategy that began with the southern strategy in the Republican Party to divide white voters from voters of color,” Shahid claimed.

  11. Why Does Rep. Omar’s Life Matter More Than Republicans?
    #RepublicanLivesDontMatter
    April 15, 2019
    Daniel Greenfield

In early April, a man was arrested after making a threatening phone call to Rep. Ilhan Omar’s office. Also, around that same time, a woman was arrested for sending a white powder to Senator Susan Collins’ office. The Collins letter claimed that it was coated in ricin and declared, “Good luck to you Susan, in the next life.” Another letter implied that it had a fatal dose of anthrax inside.

After the senator’s husband opened the letter, hazmat teams went to the house. Her husband and the dog, a lab named Pepper, had to be quarantined. A screening system was set up at the local post office where employees also feared being exposed to hazardous materials. The attacker is allegedly a member of the leftist Green Party who was angry about the senator’s vote to confirm Justice Kavanaugh.

The same media outlets that have behaved as if Rep. Omar might be killed at any moment because she received a threatening phone call have showed very little interest in a potential anthrax or ricin attack on a senator. And the media, which helped whip up the hysteria over Kavanaugh and Collins, has accused President Trump of incitement for merely quoting Omar’s hateful words about 9/11.

This wasn’t even the first fake ricin attack targeting Republican senators over Justice Kavanaugh.

  12. The EU Still Appeasing the Mullahs

    by Majid Rafizadeh
    April 15, 2019 at 5:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/14027/eu-appeasing-iran

The European Union, in an unfathomable move, has been taking the side of the Iranian government, and turning its back on its old transatlantic partner, the United States, which recently announced plans to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO), reportedly to take effect this week.

The Trump administration has taken a tougher stance towards Iran’s dark and hegemonic ambitions. Meanwhile, despite Iran’s destructive behavior, such as support for terror and militia groups across the region, the European Union has chosen to help the ruling mullahs of Iran, ostensibly to maintain the flimsy, illegal, never-signed, unratified “nuclear deal” — but possibly even more as an embarrassingly transparent attempt, if the EU could be embarrassed, to navigate around US economic and political pressure and continue doing business with Iran’s regime.

This loyalty to a tyranny has taken place has despite terror and assassination plots that Iran has brought to the EU since the establishment of the nuclear deal, such as several political assassination attempts committed in the EU by Iran’s agents.

One evening in November 2017, as Ahmad Mola Nissi returned to his home in The Hague, an assassin gunned him down at his front door. The 52-year-old Dutch citizen of Iranian origin had been a critic of the Iranian government and prominent figure in the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahvaz. He had fought for the safety and liberation of others and was gunned down where he should have felt the safest.

  13. Germany: Talk of ‘European Army’ was Meant ‘Allegorically’

    by Stefan Frank
    April 15, 2019 at 4:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/14065/germany-european-army-allegory

“We are committed to the emergence of a European army”, German chancellor Angela Merkel pledged in January, backing a plan first launched by French president Emmanuel Macron in 2017. Merkel thus confirmed a position she had voiced in November 2018, when, speaking to the European parliament in Strasbourg, she said: “We have to look at the vision of one day creating a real, true European army.”

Members of the opposition Free Democratic Party (FDP) in the German federal parliament (Bundestag) wanted to know what was meant by the term “European army” and submitted this question to the government.

In early March 2019, Die Welt reported the answer and voiced surprised about how long it had taken the government to reply:

  16. US Slaps Sanctions on Alleged New ISIS Financiers (aawsat, Apr 15, 2019)
    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1680366/us-slaps-sanctions-alleged-new-isis-financiers

“The United States on Monday imposed sanctions on financiers with bases in Belgium, Kenya and Turkey on charges they funneled money internationally for the ISIS extremist group, reported AFP.

The Treasury Department said it had pinpointed successors to Fawaz Muhammad Jubayr al-Rawi, who was killed in a US-led coalition air strike in Syria in 2017 after allegedly sending millions of dollars earmarked for the terrorists.

The United States imposed sanctions on seven people including Mushtaq Talib Zughayr al-Rawi, who as of late 2018 was living with his family in Belgium, according to the Treasury Department.

Forces seized evidence during a raid on the ISIS group last year that showed Mushtaq was helping fund them by exploiting the Iraqi government’s electronic payment machines designed to distribute payments to public employees and retirees, the Treasury Department said.

“Treasury is dedicated to ensuring the enduring defeat of ISIS by cutting off all remaining sources of their terror funding around the globe,” said Sigal Mandelker, the department’s undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence.

Rawi’s network dates from the 1990s in Iraq, when it used the region’s hawala system, the informal network of money transfers conducted through face-to-face guarantees, to evade biting international sanctions on the country then ruled by Saddam Hussein.

The Treasury Department also sanctioned a money exchange company, Al-Ard Al-Jadidah, said to connect Iraq’s hawalas with the northern Turkish city of Samsun.

An ISIS member in Iraq allegedly received $1 million through the exchange last year, it said.

Also targeted in the latest sanctions was Kenya-based Halima Adan Ali, who the Treasury Department said was part of a network that moved more than $150,000 through the hawala system to ISIS fighters in Syria, Libya and central Africa.

She has been arrested twice by Kenyan authorities and also served as a recruiter for Somalia’s Al-Shabaab militants, according to the Treasury Department.

With the announcement, the United States will seize any assets it finds which belong to the sanctioned individuals and bar any Americans from financial dealings with them.”

  18. Horrific Honor Killings in Phoenix

A Muslim man in Arizona was arrested for four honor killings — his wife, two daughters and the man with whom he believed his wife was having an affair.

According to Phoenix Police Sergeant Tommy Thompson, “[Austin Smith] said that the reason he shot these individuals is because in God’s eyes, it was all right for him to deal with someone in this manner who had been involved in adultery, extramarital affairs.”

Smith also told police he killed his seven-year-old daughter because she was “weeping for the wicked.”

According to court documents, he said spared his three-year old who was found hiding under a bed because she reminded him of himself.

As in many cases of honor crimes, some will protest this was merely a case of domestic violence (not withstanding the horrific nature of the crime). And in truth, what is the difference?

Quite simply, even though we don’t know Smith’s psychological profile, we can surmise someone capable of killing his children in cold blood – not to mention his wife and her suspected lover – has to be deranged on a certain level.

  19. Syria refugee, 9, commits suicide after being bullied in Canada (memo, Apr 15, 2019)
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190415-syria-refugee-9-commits-suicide-after-being-bullied-in-canada/

“A Syrian family who fled to Canada have spoken out about the death of their nine-year-old daughter after she committed suicide last month as a result of being bullied at school.

Amal Alshteiwi’s body was found by her mother on 6 March in their home in Calgary; in the weeks leading up to her death she had consistently complained of being physically and verbally abused by fellow classmates. The bullying continued despite changing schools, leaving Amal distraught

“Two weeks before she moved from that school to another school, kids came to her and said, ‘Even if you move to another school they are not going to love you. The kids or the teacher. Wherever you go, you better just go and kill yourself,’” Amal’s mother Nasra Abdulrahman said, talking through a translator.

“They were bullying her all the time there, telling her, ‘You are ugly, you are not beautiful,’” her father added.

The family came to Canada three years ago as government sponsored refugees fleeing the war in Syria three years ago.

Although Amal’s parents said they raised their concerns with the school management multiple times, teachers reportedly failed to protect the nine-year-old from the abuse or offer her any additional support.

In a statement emailed to Global News, the Calgary Board of Education said it “found there was no indication of bullying nor was any concern raised to the school,” following an investigation.

“The area office has worked closely with the school principal to gather information from teachers, staff and students to try to understand if there were concerns or issues,” the board said.

Whilst Canada has several organisations offering services to help refugees adjust to their new life, according to a 2017 survey, only half of those eligible to access them know they exist. The Alshteiwis did not reach out to any organisation for help settling in, and local immigration services are trying to establish why they were not alerted to Amal’s plight through the school.

The news of Amal’s death marks the latest incident of abuse against refugee children in countries to which they have fled the brutal eight-year Syrian civil war.

In February, two Syrian teenagers were walking in the German capital Berlin when they were confronted with a man spouting racist insults. He proceeded to attack the girls, punching them several times before fleeing into a nearby shopping mall. The girls sustained injuries and were transferred to hospital for treatment.

In December, criminal charges were brought against an American high school student after she beat a fellow Syrian student so severel, she required treatment at a hospital for concussion.

In November, a video showing a Syrian refugee being attacked by fellow students at a school in the UK went viral on social media, prompting outrage across the world. In the video, the 15-year-old, known only as Jamal, was seen walking alone before being head-butted, dragged to the floor, pinned down by his neck and water boarded by a group of boys. The boy’s sister was also believed to have experienced continual racial verbal abuse, which also led to her attempting to take her own life.

The increase in assaults against refugees and Muslims has been condemned as the result of anti-immigrant rhetoric from politicians and the rise of far-right groups in numerous European and North American countries.”

    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190415-arab-league-envoy-foreign-countries-fuelling-war-in-libya/

“The Arab League envoy to Libya Salah Eddine Jamali has condemned foreign nations’ interference in Libya, which he says are escalating violence in the divided country.

“There have been daily international interferences in Libya,” he said. “These countries are encouraging the war, not halting the conflict and laying down arms.”

Accusing Libyan politicians of inviting in foreign governments, Al-Jamali called on rivals to “lay down arms and return to the negotiating table”, arguing “violence does not solve problems”.

“The Arab League rejects violence and taking up arms instead of dialogue,” he said. “The league seeks to maintain Libya’s unity and territorial integrity and seeks to bridge the gap in viewpoints.”

The statement comes as renewed military confrontations in Libya approach its second week, after General Khalifa Haftar launched the “Flood of Dignity” campaign on regions in the west of the country, including the capital Tripoli. The move was widely condemned by the international community, who warned that it could plunge the country into active civil war once again…”

    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/330058/Egypt/Politics-/Egypt-court-sentences-Egyptian-man-to-death-for-ki.aspx

“An Egyptian criminal court sentenced a defendant to death on Monday for killing an Italian citizen in the city of Milano in 2013.

The case dates back to November 2014, when Interpol requested the arrest of an Egyptian citizen over the robbery and murder of a carpet shop owner of Iranian descent in Milan.

The defendant fled Italy after committing the crime in 2013 and was arrested months later at his residence in the Nile Delta governorate of Sharqiya.

The defendant told authorities that he worked as a cleaner in the shop owned by the victim, and claimed that he was sexually assaulted by the shop owner.

The defendant can appeal the verdict before the Court of Cassation.

According to Egyptian law, an Egyptian citizen who commits a crime abroad can be arrested and tried within Egypt as long as the act is considered a crime in both Egypt and the country where the crime was committed.”

“Police forced four Algerian women activists from the Democratic and Social Movement (MDS) and Youth Action Rally (RAJ) political parties to undress on April 13 at a police station 15 kilometers southeast of Algiers after arresting them.

Several activists told Algerian news outlet TSA that police arrested the four activists before they started their protests at the Grande Poste in Algiers, home of the 8th week of protests against ousted Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and the current government.

Samir Larbi, an activist, told TSA that the four activists were “searched and then forced to undress completely. These women were not consulted by a doctor and no record was established.”

The activist added that security forces did not treat male activists in the same way…”

  26. Belgians Start ‘Good Morning, I’m Muslim’ Campaign Against Islamophobia (moroccoworldnews, Apr 15, 2019)
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2019/04/270640/belgians-good-morning-muslim-campaign-islamophobia/

“Dozens of young people have launched a campaign called “Good morning, I’m Muslim” in Belgium to raise awareness about Islam and resolve any prejudices related to the religion.

The Islamic Union in Brussels launched the campaign in the cities of Antwerp, Charleroi, Genk, Liege, and Namur.

In Brussels only, approximately 50 young Muslim volunteers took part in the campaign by having conversations with as many as 10,000 people.

Omer Sikier, who handles the Islamic Union’s external relations, told Anadolu press that the aim is to combat prejudices against Islam and fight Islamophobic tendencies.

Sikier stressed that prejudices and Islamophobia come from ignorance of the religion.

Similar campaigns have taken place in cities across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Denmark, Norway, Italy, Canada, and Australia.

Volunteers have distributed a total of 210,000 flyers and many red roses to people in Europe throughout the campaigns. Muslims hope to dispel prejudices with the red roses.

The campaign comes two months after a group of Belgian students mocked Islam by wearing Muslim clothes and military uniforms with fake suicide belts as part of a week of celebrations in which one day highlighted Saudi Arabia and Islam.

The students were filmed performing Muslim prayers with a fake imam and shouting “Allahu Akbar.” Videos and photos of the practice were shared online.

The video angered the Muslim community and even non-Muslims who blamed the school for tolerating such acts.

An independent MP of the Brussels Regional Parliament, Mahinur Ozdemir, also strongly criticized the school event.”

  27. Morocco’s Human Rights Minister: Leaving Islam Is not Punishable by Law (moroccoworldnews, Apr 15, 2019)
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2019/04/270687/moroccos-human-rights-minister-islam-law/

“Morocco’s Minister of Human Rights Mustapha Ramid said that Morocco does not criminalize apostasy in state-owned channel 2M’s televised “Hadith Ma’a Al-Sahafa” (Discussion with the Press) program on Sunday, April 14.

Although the penal code does not criminalize conversion from Islam, Ramid said, it especially criminalizes those who try to “shake” other people’s faiths or convert them into religions other than Islam.

“The victim [who converts] in this case is not culpable,” he explained.

He noted that the criminal code especially focuses on proselytizing that exploits people’s “fragility” and “needs.” He explained that the law criminalizes those who target minors or poor people and talk them into leaving Islam for another religion.

Under the Moroccan Penal Code, Article 220 states, “Anyone who, through violence or threat, restrains or prevents one or several persons from worshiping or attending worship, is punishable by imprisonment for six months to three years and by a fine of 200 to 500 dirham [about $20 to $50].”

Ramid further argued that if one converted to another religion from Islam out of conviction, the law does not have a case in preventing them from professing another faith.

He said the law has its basis on the Qur’anic verse 18:29: “The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills – let him believe; and whoever wills – let him disbelieve.”

Moroccan Ambassador to Rome Hassan Abouyoub, stated at a forum that the Italian National Associated Press Agency (ANSA) held that apostates in Morocco do not risk the death penalty and that apostasy is not a crime under Morocco’s Penal Code.

However, the Ulema, the highest body of religious scholars in Morocco, issued an Islamic edict, known as a fatwa, in 2012 declaring that apostasy is punishable by death.

After the fatwa triggered outrage, the Ulema, formally called the Mohammadia League of Scholars, denied that it was making rulings like terrorist groups, which some had said.

The council explained that apostasy does not refer to those who leave their religion for another but what it called political “traitors,” those who desert their groups in favor of the “enemy.” The Ulema quoted a traditional saying of the prophet, known as a hadith, “Whoever changes his religion, kill him.” They described an apostate as “the one who leaves his religion and abandons his people.”

A source within the Mohammadia league denied the council had made a “retraction,” as some called it. He stated that only five scholars held the opinion that apostasy refers to political treason, and they did not reflect the overall opinion of the council.”

  29. No genocide, colonialism in Turkey’s history: FM Çavu?o?lu (hurriyetdailynews, Apr 15, 2019)
    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/no-genocide-colonialism-in-turkeys-history-fm-cavusoglu-142673

“Turks are proud of their history because they have not committed any genocide or partaken in colonialism, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavu?o?lu has said, vowing the Turkish government will not stay silent against “some countries trying to lecture Turkey on history,” in reference to France and Italy’s recognition of the 1915 killings of Armenians as genocide.

“We are proud of our history because our history has never had any genocides. And no colonialism exists in our history,” Minister Çavu?o?lu addressed an event at Selçuk University in the Central Anatolian province of Konya on April 15.

Turkey will never take history lessons from those who have forgotten the history of their own countries and will not hesitate to give a lesson to those who dare question Turkey’s history, Çavu?o?lu said, indirectly recalling a quarrel he had with a French parliamentarian last week in the southern province of Antalya on the sidelines of a NATO parliamentary meeting……”

  30. Over 660 irregular migrants held across Turkey (aa, Apr 15, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/over-660-irregular-migrants-held-across-turkey/1453266

“At least 664 irregular migrants were held across Turkey on Sunday, according to security sources.

In Turkey’s Aegean Aydin province, 34 irregular migrants on a rubber boat were held by the Turkish Coast Guard, said a source on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Separately, 252 irregular migrants who reportedly entered Turkey illegally were held in eastern province of Van, another source said.

Also, gendarmerie forces held six irregular migrants — all Bangladeshi nationals — in northwestern Tekirdag province.

In northwestern Edirne province that borders Greece and Bulgaria, the gendarmerie forces held 372 migrants who were trying to go abroad using illegal routes.

One suspect also arrested for alleged human smuggling.

All of the migrants were later referred to provincial migration directorates.

Turkey has been the main route for refugees trying to cross to Europe, especially since the beginning of the civil war in Syria.

Some 268,000 irregular migrants were held in Turkey in 2018, according to the Interior Ministry. The migrants were mostly Afghan, Pakistani, Syrian and Iraqi nationals.”

  31. Salvini probed for kidnapping migrants,Libya surge seen (ansa, Apr 15, 2019)
    http://www.ansa.it/english/news/2019/04/15/salvini-probed-for-kidnapping-migrantslibya-surge-seen_163682b6-0d90-4877-9dbc-7e718eaf863f.html

“Interior Minister Matteo Salvini is under investigation for kidnapping migrants, Salvini himself said Monday – as a feared surge of 800,000 refugees from Libya’s conflict was seen by the UN-backed government there.

Salvini said he is being probed for allegedly abducting migrants allegedly held on a ship stopped from landing in Siracusa from January 24 to 30 this year.

Salvini said the prosecutor in the case, Carmelo Zuccaro, had filed to dismiss the case at the same time as he had submitted the charges.

Earlier this year the Senate voted not to lift Salvini’s parliamentary immunity to face charges in another alleged migrant kidnapping case.

Salvini took the opportunity Monday to respond to fellow Deputy Premier Luigi Di Maio who on Sunday said Italy’s blockade of ports to NGO migrant rescue ships was “only temporary”, sources said.

Salvini said “I take the opportunity to reply to the minister: for me the ports will remain closed”, reiterating his long-held stance.

He said “I respect the work of the colleague Di Maio who is dealing with jobs, but on the issues of the control of borders and organised crime it’s me who decides.

“If minister Di Maio or (Defence Minister Elisabetta) Trenta think differently they should say so in cabinet and we’ll have a frank discussion.

“With me the ports will remain unavailably closed and sealed to the traffickers in human beings”.

Sources at Di Maio’s 5-Star Movement (M5S) said “the interior minister’s position is curious. When he fears being tried, he says we do things together, and when he is in an electoral campaign he says he decides about ports on his own.” At the weekend Di Maio and Trenta both warned of the prospect of a surge in migrants leaving Libya because of the conflict there.

Trenta had said that “with the war in Libya, migrants become refugees”.

Trenta on Monday offered to explain international law that means that “those fleeing Libya today are refugees” to the League and far-right movements who have criticised her.

“I see that today the League and some far-right movements have attacked your truly,” she said.

“I can invite them all to me, to the ministry, so I can explain to them a bit of international law and so they can perhaps understand what their aggressive tomes on Libya can produce,” she said.

Some 800,000 migrants are set to invade Italy from conflict-torn Libya, Premier Fayez al-Sarraj told Corriere della Sera Monday.

“Do something quickly,” he said, “the worsening of the situation in Libya could push 800,000 migrants and Libyans to invade Italy and Europe”.

Among them, he said, were criminals and, above all, jihadists linked to ISIS.
Sarraj thanked Italy for its mediation and support for peace in Libya.

Salvini said “there are those who are playing at war for their interests”.

He said that western powers should remember the lessons of the past.

Salvini has criticised France for its alleged support for ewastern Libyan strongman General Khalifa Haftar.

Ghassan Salamé, the UN’s special envoy for Libya, on Monday accused General Haftar of conducting a coup attempt.

He denied that it was an anti-terrorism operation in speaking to the BBC.

Dozens have been killed in the fighting since the general ordered his Libyan National Army forces to advance on Tripoli, where the UN-backed Government of National Accord is located.

Premier Giuseppe Conte will meet Qatari Deputy Premier Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani to discuss the Libya crisis in Rome Monday.

Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi will meet Libyan Deputy Premier Ahmed Maitig. Conte said “we must stop this conflict continuing. I will do my utmost to make sure all the Libyan actors work with us for a peaceful solution”.

The toll from the fighting between forces loyal to Haftar and the UN-backed government in Tripoli rose to 130 dead and 560 injured with 16,000 displaced Monday.

Rome prosecutors said last month there are “elements to posit” kidnapping charges in the case of the SeaWatch 3 migrant rescue ship which had to wait 12 days off Siracusa before getting the OK to land at Catania on January 31.

German NGO SeaWatch said it was “happy” that the “ordeal” of the 47 migrants on board the Dutch-flagged ship was over after six EU countries agreed to take them.

The Rome prosecutors sent their case file on to Siracusa colleagues who then handed the case to the Catania ministers tribunal.

The Senate recently voted not to let kidnapping charges proceed against Salvini in another migrant rescue standoff with the EU last August.

In that case, Salvini kept 177 migrants on board coast guard ship Diciotti for two weeks until Albania, Ireland and the Italian Church agreed to take them in.

Salvini recently said on the SeaWatch case: “is there another trial against baddy Salvini on the way? Salvini last year closed Italian ports to NGO migrant rescue ships.”

Qatar Signs $50,000 Contract to Court American Jews

Qatar, the oil-rich Gulf emirate known for supporting Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, has reportedly hired a leading U.S. public-relations firm in order to improve its image among the American Jewish community. Qatar’s war to destroy pro-Israel Jews

[…] Qatar is the principal funder of Hamas, which is sworn to the annihilation of the Jewish people. The Jewish leaders who disgraced themselves by participating in the Qatari whitewash, and who traveled to Doha – some of whom were paid – have yet to express remorse for their actions or repudiate their participation in the Qatari whitewash.…

… just how far Qatar had gone to manipulate and even buy off American Jewish leaders. They had handed out large donations to right-wing Jewish organizations and even paid pro-settlement fundraisers to work outright on their behalf. They arranged luxury trips to the emirate for the American Jewish community’s top brass…

…Leading pro-Israel activists were soon penning shameful columns in national publications saying that “Qatar is quickly becoming the Israel of the Gulf States, surrounded by enemies, subject to boycotts and unrealistic demands and struggling for its survival.”

As the smoke finally begins to clear, we in the Jewish community are overdue for a reckoning of what transpired. Orthodox Jewish agents have been taking money from Israel’s greatest enemies to advance their malign interests.

Worse, some of these Jewish leaders and activists, whether knowingly or unknowingly, may have abetted electronic attacks and spy operations against fellow Jews who did nothing but try protect Israel and the Jewish people.…
