Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We muse use it while we can.

  1. Scientists Recommend Reducing The Number Of Democratic Presidential Candidates To Help Fight Climate Change

WORLD—Scientists have issued a dire warning: the current number of Democratic presidential candidates is simply unsustainable.

“No one ever thought this many people would run for president,” said climate scientist Dr. Raymond Hall, “and the planet just can’t take it. We’re talking each of them eating up resources vying for airtime, printing stickers with trite slogans, and flying from Iowa to New Hampshire. If they were actually all to be in one place for a debate, it would be an ecological disaster.”

Scientists recommend the current Democratic field be reduced to less than half the current number or we could see an increase in hurricanes, droughts, kaiju, and “other climate change things.” As for what to do with the excess candidates, researcher Jeannie Perry said, “As always, I’d recommend firing them into space. Barring that, someone should just sit down with them and explain to them that no one is ever going to vote for them and hope that keeps them from running around consuming resources in a futile effort for presidential power.”

    • Just for you, Xan.

Meanwhile, long ago, on a small planet in a galaxy far, far away…

For jollies, read Michael Crichton’s last book, “State of Fear”. In it, he rips the entire climate change crowd several bright new shiny ones and does it all with footnotes! As a responsible author, he provides an epilogue expressing concern that this entire issue receive honest coverage and proper scientific investigation.

Daniel Spector: Most importantly, even if they are right [about global warming] (questionable) it seems that there is little we can do to stop it anyway.

This is the much larger issue. Much like the war on terrorism, there is now so much capital at stake (both moral and financial), that hypocrite hucksters like Al Gore and all the other carbon credit snake oil salesmen wouldn’t dream of yanking their claws out of this juicy (i.e., pork laden) kill.

Merely examine the farce of the 2007 United Nations Climate Change Conference that took place at the Bali International Conference Centre, Nusa Dua, in Bali, Indonesia. The UN had to save face by purchasing $100,000 worth of carbon credits to make up for all the partially occupied long haul private jet space used by its own attendees. (See: UN News – UN to offset carbon emissions from Bali conference on climate change).

      http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=25030&Cr=climate#.UwLVrYXvxGY

12 December 2007 – Joining global efforts to become climate neutral, the United Nations announced today that it will offset the carbon emissions – estimated at around 3,370 tons of carbon dioxide – resulting from its members’ travel to and from the historic UN Climate Change Conference under way in Bali, Indonesia.

The greenhouse gas emissions arising from the travel of staff from nearly two dozen UN agencies, funds and programmes, as well as Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and his team, are estimated to be worth approximately $100,000 at current carbon prices.

So many attendees arrived in private jets that they had an overflow parking problem. YJCMTSU!

Not Enough Parking for Private Jets Going to UN Climate Conference

So much for all of their crocodile tears about climate change. The only thing remotely comparable to this Grand Guignol was the obscene 2002 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development “Earth Summit” about global hunger in Johannesburg, South Africa. (See: Lobsters, caviar and brandy for MPs at summit on starvation)

[The menu] includes 5,000 oysters, more than 1,000lbs of lobster and other shellfish, buckets of caviar and piles of pâté de foie gras.

He has also got in more than 4,400lbs of fillet steak and chicken breasts, 450lbs of salmon, 220lbs of a tasty South African fish called kingclip — and more than 1,000lbs of bacon and sausages…

Vintage champagne, fine wines, spirits and liqueurs have been flown in from around the globe so the VIPs can wash down their meals in style.

A new kitchen has been especially created for world leaders, including the Sultan of Brunei, who have their own cooks and tasters.

The £35million summit [adjusted from 2002 = $72 million in 2018 USD] — aimed at combating hunger, poverty and pollution — is centred around Sandton, the most exclusive suburb in Africa…

The 60,000 summit delegates from 182 countries are expected to drink 80,000 bottles of mineral water during the conference.

Yet each day 6,000 African children die from diseases caused by contaminated water.

As to climate change—notice how it’s no longer “global warming” but “climate change”? (got to keep all of the bases covered)—the public has already been adequately stampeded and force-fed this as a moral issue to where there is little hope of it being addressed in a consistently quantitative manner.

Here’s a video that will stand your hair on end.

      • Thanks NR. Of all the slights-of-hand we must tolerate, this little shift from “warming” to “change” is the most preposterous. Here in Dystopia we had our largest late snowfall in history. The joke is now how this winter will simply roll into next, skipping summer.

  2. The head of Sudan’s military council has stood down a day after leading a coup that toppled long-time leader Omar al-Bashir amid a wave of protests.

Defence Minister Awad Ibn Auf announced his decision on state TV. He named as his successor Lt Gen Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan.

It comes after protesters refused to leave the streets, saying the coup leaders were too close to Mr Bashir.

The army has said it will stay in power for two years, followed by elections.

Mr Bashir’s downfall followed months of unrest that began in December over rising prices. At least 38 people have died in the protests.

  4. Pakistan: Thousands of gather to form ‘Al-Noor Mosque’ in tribute to Christchurch victims

Thousands of Pakistanis gathered together to form themselves in the shape of ‘Al Noor’ Mosque in Shorkot on Friday, in honour of the victims of New Zealand’s Christchurch shootings and to send a message of peace.

The event started with a recitation of the Quran and was followed by the participants shaping the words ‘Islam is peace’ on the grounds of the mosque.

“It was [an] expression of solidarity, and it was to pay tribute to the martyrs of [the] Christchurch incident and to the victims and [in] solidarity with the honourable Prime Minister of New Zealand, their government and their civil society”, said Chairman of the Muslim Institute, Sahibzada Sultan Ahmad Ali.

He added: “In the time when the theory of [the] clash of civilisations is being discussed, literally the Prime Minister and the civil society of New Zealand have become modern bridge-builders between civilisations, between Islam and the West”.

The event, which was organised by the the ‘Muslim Institute’, involved more than 20,000 people paying tribute to the victims of the shooting which claimed 50 lives in New Zealand last month.

  6. Belgium Says Number of Extremist Imams Doubled… State Security Watches Them (aawsat, Apr 12, 2019)
    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1676291/belgium-says-number-extremist-imams-doubled%E2%80%A6-state-security-watches-them

“The number of imams suspected of having a hardline ideology in Belgium and have been under Belgian State Security Service control had amounted to 72 in 2018.

The figure has doubled over the past two years compared to 2016 when it was 37. Back then terrorists carried out attacks in Belgium, targeting an airport and a train station in which 32 were killed and another 32 were injured.

These figures were presented by Justice Minister Koen Geens in a written response to a parliamentary interpellation by a member of the right-wing Vlaams Belang Party Barbara Pas.

“I can’t understand the government’s failure to take firm steps against these imams, who should have been considered unwanted and deported outside Belgium,” said Pas, in response to these figures.

“They pose a significant threat through their extremist religious rhetoric and discourse and a major source spreading hardline Islam in Belgium.”

“The Belgian government must take firm actions in order to end this threat,” she stressed.

In remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat, Head of Belgium’s Conference of Imams Sheikh Mohamed Toujgani expressed regret over the situation of imams, mosques and the Muslim minority in Europe due to growing hatred.

“We hear a great deal about the training of imams although there are currently competent imams in various fields,” said Toujgani when asked whether training imams is a priority over solving their problems and sufferings due to being classified as extremists.

Toujgani explained that training imams is a necessity as they should always be keen to develop themselves and cooperate with others.”

    https://www.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2019/4/12/morocco-sentences-swiss-man-to-10-years-for-terrorism

“A Moroccan court has sentenced a Swiss citizen arrested in connection with the murder of two Scandinavian hikers to 10 years in prison on terrorism charges, his lawyer said Friday.

Kahlil Idriss said the man, identified only as Nicolas P., 33, was convicted Thursday in the city of Sale, near Rabat, in a case unrelated to the double murder.

A dual Swiss-Spanish citizen was among more than 20 people arrested after Danish student Louisa Vesterager Jespersen, 24, and 28-year-old Norwegian Maren Ueland were found beheaded on Dec. 17 in the High Atlas mountains south of Marrakesh.

Nicolas P. was arrested in January for having had contact with the Swiss-Spanish national as well as compatriots with ties to Syria, Idriss said.

He was found guilty of “forming a terrorist group.”

The lawyer said he has filed an appeal on the basis that his client had signed a police report in Arabic without having read it.

The accused told the court he had been paid by Switzerland’s secret services for making contact with Swiss terror suspects.

Moroccan authorities allege the four main suspects in the hikers’ murders were Islamic State sympathisers but not in direct contact with IS members in Iraq or Syria.”

  9. 3-day Islamophobia conference kicks off in Istanbul (aa, Apr 12, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/3-day-islamophobia-conference-kicks-off-in-istanbul/1450998

“The second edition of the international conference on Islamophobia kicked off in Istanbul.

Featuring scholars from Turkey and abroad, the conference organized by the Center for Islam and Global Affairs (CIGA) at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University (IZU) focused on “Islamophobia’s role in different contexts, and its discourse and geopolitics”.

In his opening speech, Mehmet Bulut, rector of IZU, said Islamophobia threatens human rights “in grave and unconscionable ways”.

Stating that Muslims all around the world continue to bear the burdens of Islamophobia, he said: “In Myanmar, the native Rohingya have been brutalized, killed and expelled for their Muslim faith.”

“In India, Islamophobia has taken an ugly turn in Kashmir and other states, where Hindu nationalists have been turning peaceful co-existence into polarized communities. Uyghur Muslims are similarly being subjected to industrial-scale persecution.

“Despite the visible concern, many leaders and public figures have for these breaches of basic human rights, and despite the dangerous implications of Islamophobia on peace and democracy, very little has been done to address these many problems head-on,” he added.

    Solidarity

Also speaking at the event, Anne Norton, professor of Political Science and Comparative Literature at the University of Pennsylvania, underlined the importance of solidarity among Muslims and allies to combat Islamophobia.

“For example, in New Zealand, the indigenous people did their traditional dance Haka for Muslims,” she said. “…These acts of solidarity are profoundly important in showing to people that they have common aims.”

At least 50 Muslim worshippers were massacred, with as many injured, in a terror attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand on March 15.

“We have to learn to love the difference,” she said.

“There is a long history here [in Istanbul] of living with difference and of living well with the difference.

“I think this place between Europe and Asia with this history is perhaps the best site to combat Islamophobia,” she noted.

Speaking of the imperial powers across the world including the Ottoman empire, Norton said: “Even in the United States, on television, one can see the revival of the Ottoman past in public space and the Ottoman past in public cultures.”

“What interest me more is the philosophic contribution that can be taken from these empires,” the academic said.

The conference will end on Sunday.

In Saturday’s session, the role of elite, think tanks, and right-wing groups, Islamophobia and the U.S. foreign policy, as well as Islamophobia being used as a tool in supporting autocratic rule, will be discussed.

Islamophobia and orientalism, the image of Muslims in western cultural history, media, education and arts, and anti-Semitism will be among the subjects that will be discussed in Sunday’s sessions.

Last year, the first edition of the conference on Islamophobia, organized by the CIGA also featured some of the most notable scholars from Turkey and around the world.”

  10. Turkey: 558 irregular migrants held across country (aa, Apr 12, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/turkey-558-irregular-migrants-held-across-country/1451012

“A total of 558 irregular migrants were held across Turkey on Friday, security sources said.

Security personnel spotted groups of migrants in western Edirne province who were attempting to cross to Europe, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

The migrants are from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Morocco, Tunisia, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt and Syria, the sources said.

In southern Hatay province, border forces held 51 Syrian migrants.

Also, gendarmerie forces detained 22 Afghan migrants in northeastern Ardahan province.

In western Kirklareli province, 15 Afghan nationals who were trying to go abroad using illegal routes were held, the sources added.

Turkey has been the main route for refugees trying to cross to Europe, especially since the beginning of the civil war in Syria.

Some 268,000 irregular migrants were held in Turkey in 2018, according to the Interior Ministry.”

  11. France must act on ‘dire’ conditions in migrant camps, says UN envoy (thelocal, Apr 12, 2019)
    https://www.thelocal.fr/20190412/france-must-act-on-dire-conditions-in-migrants-camps-says-un-envoy

“France must act on the “dire” living conditions of refugees and migrants sleeping rough in France, the United Nation’s housing envoy has said.

More than 16,000 people are estimated to be living in 497 informal settlements in France, including shanty areas and makeshift groups of tents.

One third are located in Greater Paris and there is also a heavy concentration of rough sleepers around Calais – many of whom were evicted from the notorious ‘jungle’ camp in 2016.

Last month The Local revealed the appalling conditions in the migrant camps that have sprung up on the outskirts of Paris.

Our reporter found hundreds of migrants from war-torn or impoverished countries living in appalling conditions in the Porte de la Chapelle area, waiting for their next appointment with the migration authorities, who after an initial meeting send them away to fend for themselves for months on end.

In the neighbouring Porte d’Aubervillers around 200 people – including many women and children – camp out on the streets.

The migrants had been living in the trendy Canal Saint-Martin area but were cleared out and pushed to the outskirts of Paris where – many believe – they are seen as ‘out of sight and out of mind’ by the French authorities.

Leilani Farha, the UN’s special rapporteur for housing, highlighted the “harsh conditions” of migrants sleeping rough in France, particularly the 600-700 people sheltering in tents or makeshift camps on the northern French coast with “extremely limited access to emergency shelter”.

Farha, who has analysed housing conditions across France, said: “The government of France must prohibit the repeated and systematic evictions of persons living in tents and informal settlements resulting in inhuman or degrading treatment.”

She told UK newspaper the Guardian that she also had “urgent concerns” for people living in harsh conditions in squats and informal settlements across France, including refugees, migrants, Roma and Travellers.

She added that she had visited one empty office building in Toulouse inhabited by almost 300 people, including children, which was severely overcrowded, with insects everywhere and a sanitation system which was overwhelmed and flooding.”

  12. France jails ‘jihadist’ woman accused over foiled terror attack (france24, Apr 12, 2019)
    https://www.france24.com/en/20190412-france-jails-jihadist-woman-accused-over-foiled-terror-attack

“Ines Madani, 22, was sentenced following a three-day trial during which she was accused of encouraging would-be jihadists to go to Syria and participate in attacks against France between March 2015 and June 2016.

She used Telegram — an encrypted messaging app widely used by jihadists to communicate.

Judge Isabelle Prevost-Desprez said that Madani was “recruited” by Oumar Diaw, also known as Abou Barrou, an influential jihadist of the Islamic State group.

She used different pseudonyms on social networks, pretending for example to be Abu Souleymane, a jihadist returned from Raqa to carry out attacks in France.

“You had some autonomy in the management of your personality…. Your determination marks your dangerousness,” Prevost-Desprez said.

Madani’s lawyer, Laurent Pasquet-Marinacce, said her client, aged 18 at the time, was “a girl in search of recognition and love”.

“This (the sentence) is an acceptable decision,” she said.

Madani’s trial for trying to set fire to the car filled with six gas cylinders near Notre Dame will begin on September 23.”
