Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We muse use it while we can.

  1. Richard: Read the entire article, it is about the tactics the left are using to set the stage for a violent revolution when they lose the next election. The election of Donald Trump upset the Dem plans to turn the US into a one party nation. Now they are getting ready to seize control when they lose in 2020.

When socialist lose elections they scream about the crooked voting and how the voters didn’t understand what is at stake. When Communist lose elections the shoot the winner and say “See I told you I won.”

Elizabeth Warren: If the votes are counted fairly, we’ll win every time

Good, normal, healthy thing for a country to have top-tier politicians assuring their audiences that if they lose an election it necessarily means cheating has occurred.

Out of context you might dismiss this as an applause line, a standard empty assurance to the party faithful that there are more of Us than there are of Them. In context it’s more sinister. Warren said this at Al Sharpton’s National Action Network Convention, explicitly blaming Stacey Abrams’s narrow defeat in Georgia last fall on voter suppression in framing her point. (There are few things Democratic candidates would profess to believe as devoutly in 2019 as that Abrams actually won.) She’s telling an audience of black Democrats that if they go to the polls and their candidate loses, it means inescapably that the other party suppressed minority votes.

  2. The Pentagon should draft all “genders,” not just men and women, according to New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
She casually spotlighted her revolutionary rejection of biology, sex, and the male-or-female society during a live Facebook chat in which she was asked about her views on the military draft. “As long as we have a draft, I support people of all genders being drafted,” she said.

    • Never mind the combat requirements just ignore science and reality and let the US military be destroyed.

  3. 70% of Wall Street thinks Trump will be reelected in 2020

A new poll of Wall Street insiders shows that a vast majority expect President Donald Trump to win reelection in 2020.

While Joe Biden was viewed as the most stock market-friendly possible Democratic candidate for the White House, more than 70% of survey respondents told global investment bank RBC Capital Markets that they expect Trump to be reelected.

“Most expect Trump to win in 2020, but there’s still some nervousness around the event,” Lori Calvasina, RBC’s head of U.S. equity strategy, wrote to clients. Sixty-seven percent “of our March 2019 survey respondents believe that Joe Biden is seen as the most acceptable Democratic candidate by the stock market for the White House. No other candidate got a significant number of votes.”

  4. Man in critical condition after being assaulted with golf club

A man is in life-threatening condition in hospital after being assaulted in North York.

Police say they were originally called to Yonge Street and Wedgwood Drive, just south of Steeles Avenue, to a man who fell off a bike around 11:45 p.m. Friday.

An investigation determined the man was riding a bike when an unidentified person struck him with an object, causing him to fall off. The suspect then fled on foot.

  6. Nunes Issuing up to TWO DOZEN Criminal Referrals

Congressman Devin Nunes (R-CA) said yesterday that he will issue as many as two dozen criminal referrals to the Department of Justice relating to misconduct during the Trump-Russia investigation.

“The American people need to have confidence in the FBI and the Department of Justice. So, we are working on the referrals,” the California congressman said to Fox News’ Sean Hannity. “There’s going to be many of them. There are going to probably at least be a dozen if not two dozen individuals, and as we continue to get more information and build these and build them out, we want to make sure that everything is finished before we turn them in.”

Richard: Congress can’t do anything besides make criminal referrals to the DOJ, this is why none of the crimes of the Obama administration that Congress investigated were punished. The DOJ refused to prosecute the criminals. This is one of the reasons that Mueller and company were so intent on bringing down Donald Trump. Now the new and old crimes can be looked into and prosecuted.

  7. Comey Crumbling? Fmr FBI Boss Says he Fears Investigation into Bureau Bias

Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey said he fears–“as a citizen”–a counter investigation into the DOJ and FBI’s shamefully biased probe of the Trump-Russia hoax investigation claiming it’s a “terrible cycle to start.”

In an interview which aired yesterday, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour asked Comey whether he “feared” a counter investigation into himself and the FBI.

‘I don’t fear it personally,” he said. “I fear it as a citizen, right? Investigate what? Investigate that investigations were conducted? What would be the crime you’d be investigating?” Comey asked.

  8. Report: AG Barr “Pretty Upset” With Handling of Hillary Email Probe

Attorney General William Barr is reportedly “pretty upset” with the corrupt investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email investigation.

Speaking to Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo yesterday, Sen. Lindsey Graham said the attorney general was unhappy with the handling of the FBI probe into Clinton’s private server.

“So it seems to me that [Clinton] was interviewed not under oath. She had a couple of her staff people with her. People in her campaign were given immunity without anything in return. Nobody in the Clinton investigation went to jail for lying about the process because there was no process,” the senator said.

  9. Evil Medieval Christians or Islam’s Victims Retaliating?
    By Raymond Ibrahim
Citing history — or, as shall be seen, pseudohistory — is one of the main ways Islam’s apologists try to ennoble the creed and its adherents. As a sort of counterbalance to purportedly noble Muslims, medieval Christians are regularly presented as the epitome of hypocrisy, barbarism, and greed. Commonly leading the pack are Vlad the Impaler, Ivan the Terrible, and Tomas Torquemada (all featured in the 2002 book, The Most Evil Men and Women in History).

In reality, however, these three men — and the culture they lived in — were highly influenced by Islam; all three were surrounded by and fought against Muslims their entire lives.

The historic figure of Vlad III (1430-1476) — whom the fictional, bloodsucking character of Dracula is based on — is portrayed in the West as a sadistic monster who loved nothing better than to impale his own people and drink their blood — often while listening to monks sing hymns, no less. CNN even claims that the Islamic State learned its sadistic methods of torture and execution from Vlad.

  10. A former Democratic congressional staffer pleaded guilty Friday to federal charges after he posted leaked personal information about Republican senators on Wikipedia, then threatened a witness who caught him.

Jackson Cosko, 27, of the District of Columbia, pleaded guilty to five offenses related to his “doxing” the senators — uploading their personal information online — including computer fraud, making public restricted personal information, witness tampering and obstruction of justice.

Prosecutors said he went after the lawmakers after one senator fired him and he got upset with the others while watching testimony on sexual assault allegations during Supreme Court justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings.

  11. the daily caller – FORMER SEN. HASSAN AIDE STOLE GIGABYTES OF ‘HIGH VALUE’ DATA

A former IT aide to New Hampshire Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan mounted an “extraordinarily extensive data-theft scheme” against the office, the culprit’s plea agreement states.

The plot included the installation of tiny “keylogging” devices that picked up every keystroke. Between July and October 2018, former IT aide Jackson Cosko worked with an unnamed accomplice, a then-current Hassan employee, who repeatedly lent him a key that he used to enter the office at night and who allegedly tried to destroy evidence for him.

Cosko accepted responsibility for the events revealed by federal prosecutors in court Friday.

A statement of facts that Cosko agreed to says that from July to October 2018, he “engaged in an extraordinarily extensive data-theft scheme, copying entire network drives, sorting and organizing sensitive data, and exploring ways to use that data to his benefit,” arranging it into folders such as “high value.”

The theft occurred after Cosko was fired from Hassan’s office in May 2018 for undisclosed reasons, then hired by Democratic Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, giving him access to the House computer network.

“The defendant gained access to Senator Hassan’s Office by unlawfully obtaining keys from a staffer who was (at the time) still employed in the Office” and using it to repeatedly burglarize the office. He placed small, unobtrusive devices on at least six Senate computers that captured every keystroke, including usernames and passwords which he would then use to access further documents.

He repeatedly sneaked into her office late at night and gathered dozens of gigabytes of data including:

-dozens of usernames and passwords belonging to Senate employees
-tens of thousands of emails and internal documents
-credit card information belonging to Senate employees
-social security numbers belonging to Senate employees
-personally identifying information belonging to hundreds of other persons (presumably constituents)
-private phone numbers and home addresses of senators

In October 2018, he used information stolen from Hassan’s office to doxx Republican Utah Sens. Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee as well as Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham. Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul later called for punishing the then-unknown offender. Cosko then doxxed Paul and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. “The defendant published that information maliciously, with the intent to intimidate the Senators,” the plea agreement says.

On October 2, Cosko again borrowed a key from the accomplice who knew “that the defendant intended to unlawfully enter the Senator’s Office that night.” At 10p.m., went back to Hassan’s office for more data, but was caught in the act by another Hassan staffer, who he then threatened: “If you tell anyone I will leak it all. Emails, signal conversations, gmails,” he said.

The next day, Cosko met with his accomplice, referred to as Subject A, and returned his key and “told Subject A to wipe down all of the computers, keyboards and computer mice.” But a third witness nearly caught him in the act, so the accomplice texted Cosko: “Hey So I was able to wipe down the keys and mouse but [witness 3] was coming so I could [not] do the other thing.”

Cosko pleaded guilty to five felonies including witness intimidation and obstruction of justice. The maximum sentence was 55 years in prison, but guidelines call for three to four years. He agreed not to seek a term shorter than two years as part of the plea agreement. He could also face a fine of up to $200,000 and possible restitution to Hassan’s office.

Prosecutors declined to say whether the accomplice will be prosecuted, and Hassan’s office did not return a request for comment.

The plea agreement says that from July to October 2018, Cosko:

engaged in an extensive computer fraud and data theft scheme that he carried out by repeatedly burglarizing Senator Hasson’s office. The defendant engaged in an extraordinarily extensive data-theft scheme, copying entire network drives, sorting and organizing sensitive data, and exploring ways to use that data to his benefit…

The defendant gained access to Senator Hassan’s Office by unlawfully obtaining keys from a staffer who was (at the time) still employed in the Office (Subject A). The defendant then used those keys to enter the Senator’s office alone at night….

The defendant surreptitiously installed ‘keylogger’ devices on at least six computers in Senator Hassan’s Office…. designed to record the keystrokes that Senate stafers typed on their Senate-owned computers – including the keystrokes that comprised usernames and passwords.

On October 3, 2018, the defendant met with Subject A, to return Subject A’s key… defendant told Subject A to wipe down all of the computers, keyboards and computer mice…

Subject A texted: “Hey So I was able to wipe down the keys and mouse but [witness 3] was coming so I could [not] do the other thing”

The government confiscated two gmail accounts, keyloggers and two twitter accounts: @TrundleDaGreat and @CongressOfShit.

Cosko, a supporter of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, was born to a California family with ties to Democratic California Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Republicans suggested the California Democrat leaked a letter soon before Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing that alleged the Supreme Court justice sexually assaulted Christine Blasey Ford.

The suspect’s father, Greg Cosko, is the CEO of Hathaway Dinwiddie, a construction company that built a university building named after Feinstein’s husband. He serves on the board of San Francisco State University alongside Willie Brown, the California politician who said he helped make the career of Democratic California Sen. Kamala Harris, with an illicit affair.

As former chairman of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, Greg Cosko hobnobbed with then-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Feinstein and others. The elder Cosko’s adult son appears to have made inroads in Washington via an internship with Feinstein.

    • This one is very important, it is one of the States saying that hte Federal Government is doing things (a lot of things) that the Constitution doesn’t say they can. What many people, including a lot of our politicians, don’t understand is that unless the action is specifically allowed in the Constitution the Government is forbidden from doing that action.

With the people it is the reverse, unless the action is specifically forbidden to us we are allowed to do it. The3 Dems are very good at ignoring these facts.

  16. Illegal Muslim Migrant Jailed for BRUTALLY Murdering His Christianised Wife (sputniknews, Apr 6, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201904061073883175-illegal-migrant-jailed-christian-convert-wife/

“A court heard Dana Abdullah being lambasted for the callous crime, which left the victim’s four underage kids motherless.

A UK court jailed a Muslim Iranian asylum seeker for life on Thursday on murder charges after he killed his wife by stabbing her 50 times, including for her conversion to Christianity, the court heard.

Having inflicted knife cuts on his estranged wife Avan Najmadiein, 32-year-old mother of four, Dana Abdullah left her to die after discovering that she had refused to back his application to remain in Britain, BBC reported. Authorities stated that Abdullah, aged 35, returned illicitly to the UK after being deported in 2013 for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl, and he is known to have previously threatened to kill his wife after she was baptised as a Christian, thereby “dishonouring” him.

Dwelling on Abdullah’s previous conviction, Michael Chambers, Stafford Crown Court judge, said, as quoted by Premier:

“It does show that you are not someone of good character and, having been deported for that matter, you chose to come back into this country illegally and have committed this very serious crime”.

Chambers went on to condemn the callous nature of the committed crime:

“This was, on any view, a planned and pre-meditated murder involving a brutal and sustained attack using a knife – knowing full well that it would deprive four children under the age of eight of their mother”, Chambers said.

Along the same lines, Detective Victoria Downing portrayed Abdullah as “an arrogant and controlling man”, asserting that he had committed the crime because he hated his wife’s decision not to throw her weight behind his new asylum application, as well as convert to Christianity.

After stabbing Najmadiein on 1 October, 2018, he tried to set her kitchen on fire in an attempt to get rid of evidence, and then fled, initially to Liverpool, England, and subsequently to Glasgow, Scotland, where he finally turned himself in to police, admitting, though, only to being a “failed asylum seeker” at the time…”

Last weekend, Israel was attacked in a new way. No, I’m not referring to the horrific onslaught of rockets Hamas launched into Israel that left two children hospitalized and five others injured; the tens of thousands of rioters who tried to breach the Gaza border fence; or the three Palestinian youths who were killed.

I’m talking about an outlandish article published in The New York Times Magazine about the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement that evokes age-old anti-Semitic tropes to accuse prominent Jewish philanthropists, like Haim Saban, of holding the Democratic Party hostage on Israel — authored by a man with ties to one of the world’s biggest sponsors of terrorism.

Many rushed to shame the Times for welcoming writer Nathan Thrall’s “propaganda.” But it isn’t just the propaganda or anti-Semitism that should concern Jews everywhere – it’s Nathan Thrall himself and his alarming ties to Qatar. A deep dive by the Free Beacon revealed that Thrall is employed by an organization that receives funding from the Qatari government and has ties to several anti-Israel and anti-Semitic activists.

NEWT GINGRICH: IT’S TIME TO HOLD QATAR ACCOUNTABLE

That’s right: The New York Times published an article written by someone connected to the Qatari payroll, who tars and feathers pro-Israel philanthropists, gives an international platform to the BDS movement, and devotes not a single of its 11,500 words to Qatar – the world’s central bank for terrorism and a known sponsor of Hamas.

This shouldn’t be shocking: Qatari efforts to influence American journalism have been growing rapidly in recent years, as the Gulf state pays hundreds of millions of dollars to buy influence and manipulate what and how the American press reports on issues in the Middle East.

A group of cartel gunmen sprayed rifle fire and tossed two fragmentation grenades at the government installation which houses the command staff of the state police commission at approximately 12:50 am on Wednesday morning, according to local reports. The attack triggered a joint police and military operation to locate and capture the gunmen. A short time later, security elements stopped a Ford vehicle with a Texas license plate and subsequently arrested both occupants later identified as Javier H. R. and Ana G. C., both 19. A search of their vehicle reportedly produced a 9mm pistol. Both were later turned over to the custody of state attorney general’s office. Police also recovered an abandoned Chevrolet in colonia Exhipódromo. The vehicle was reported stolen is also believed used during the attack. “Forces loyal to Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar continued their push towards Tripoli on Saturday amid mounting international pressure to halt hostilities which risk plunging the country into civil war.

Haftar ordered the self-styled Libyan National Army to move on Tripoli on Thursday and they were on Saturday battling for control of an area around 50 km (30 miles) south of the capital, AFP reported.

LNA fighters have been slowed in their advance by forces loyal to Libya’s internationally-recognised Government of National Accord, and for the first time, GNA-aligned forces launched air strikes on LNA positions.

Pro-government forces in Tripoli said on Saturday they had targeted Haftar’s forces with “intensive strikes.”

The LNA media office said strikes were carried out in the Al-Aziziya region by aircraft which had taken off from western Misrata, AFP reported.

The LNA declared a no-fly zone in response.

“Any jet fighter flying over Tripoli will not be allowed and will be targeted, the air base it came from will also be targeted,” Al Jazeera quoted Haftar’s spokesperson Ahmed al-Mesmari as saying…”

    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190406-haftar-attacking-tripoli-with-egyptian-uae-and-saudi-arms-libya-general-claims/

“Libyan Brigadier General Mohammad Al-Qunidi, who is chief of the military intelligence loyal to Prime Minister Fayiz Al-Sarraaj, has said that General Khalifa Haftar is attacking Tripoli with Egyptian, Emirati and Saudi arms.

Speaking to Al Khaleej Online yesterday, Al-Qunidi said: “The three Arab countries support Haftar’s militias in order to create a new Sisi in Libya,” referring to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

He added: “Haftar does not have money and arms enough to face Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous forces [the coalition formed to expel Daesh from the central city of Sirte in 2016] and the Libyan army together in the western area. His move came only after his latest visit to Saudi Arabia.”

Al-Qunidi stressed that Saudi Arabia gave Haftar the green light for his attack and supplied him with money in order to take over the west Libya.

“Egypt and the UAE supplied Haftar with arms and heavy equipment,” he added, stating that there are Emirati and Egyptian weapons being used by his fighters in the battle. Haftar is also using militias from Chad and the Sudanese opposition.

Al-Qunidi also revealed that Haftar has offered money and services to officers from Tripoli, promising them they will be granted senior positions after he occupies the city.

  30. Suspect arrested for fatal shooting at Stockholm train station (thelocal, Apr 6, 2019)
    https://www.thelocal.se/20190406/suspect-arrested-for-fatal-shooting-at-stockholm-train-station

“A 20-something man is being held on murder charges in connection with the March 9th fatal shooting at Stockholm’s Älvsjö commuter train station.

Police arrested the man earlier on Saturday and believe that he is the gunman who fired seven to eight shots at a 20-something man while the train station was bustling with commuter traffic.

Witnesses said that several people were forced to run into the station’s Pressbyrån convenience store in order to take shelter during the shooting.

“There were seven, eight shots. There were many bangs. The shooter was wearing gym pants and a balaclava. He continued to shoot after the other guy fell down. Several shots,” one witness, who did not wish to be identified, told news agency TT.

The fatal shooting happened while the station was quite busy, owing in part to the Stockholm International Boatshow taking place in Älvsjö, which is a district south of the city centre. As a result of the shooting, the station was closed for several hours.

Neither the identity nor the exact age of the suspected gunman or the victim have been publicly released.

Prosecutor Erik Wendeby told TT that the suspect will now be held in police custody as the investigation continues.

“The district court shared my assessment of the crime suspicion and the suspect has been detained and is suspected of murder,” he said. “

  31. Protesters rally against ‘rental insanity’ in large German cities (dw, Apr 6, 2019)
    https://www.dw.com/en/protesters-rally-against-rental-insanity-in-large-german-cities/a-48235915

“Rents have risen sharply in Berlin and other German cities during the past decade. At a Berlin protest, housing activists demanded the government hit back by expropriating real estate from big rental companies.

Thousands of people took to the streets in the German capital, Berlin, on Saturday to protest against rising rents, with other protests also staged in Cologne, Frankfurt and Munich.

DW’s Jordan Wildon was at Berlin’s well-known Alexanderplatz square as the protest got underway.

Organizers claimed 40,000 people attended the central event in Berlin, while the police announced only that the crowd numbered “far more than 10,000.” The protesters marched through several city districts where people feel they are being priced out of their apartments.

“There’s a massive sell-off happening in this city,” Kreuzberg resident Paul Afred Kleinertsaid said at the event. According to the German author and translator, foreign real estate investors are especially keen on raising rents.

“Entire streets have been purchased by Japanese, Norwegian or American consortiums,” Kleinert added.

Housing rents, particularly in Berlin, have doubled over the past decade, as Germany’s booming job market continues to attract a large number of workers. This has put pressure on the housing market: Average rents in Berlin have pushed past €10 ($11.23) per square meter per month, according to a recent study by real estate group CBRE Berlin and German mortgage bank Berlin Hyp AG.

    Government intervention

Protesters are demanding the government step in and take control of the situation. On Saturday, they began gathering signatures for a petition that would see Berlin take over nearly 250,000 apartments from big rental companies. The move, coordinated by the Expropriate Deutsche Wohnen & Co. initiative, targets the biggest private rental player in Berlin, a company called Deutsche Wohnen. The firm owns 111,500 apartments, followed by Vonovia with 44,000.

If the housing activists gather 20,000 signatures, Berlin’s government would be required to consider the idea. If their response is not to the protesters’ satisfaction, they have the option of gathering another 170,000 signatures by February 2020 to force a referendum on the issue.

The latest polls show a narrow majority of Berliners support for the initiative.

In turn, Deutsche Wohnen said that selling their apartments to the city would not solve the crisis.

“Expropriation is creating a lot of emotions right now, but it won’t create a single apartment,” CEO Michael Zahn told the Associated Press news agency.

Additionally, such expropriation could cost the heavily-indebted city some €37 billion in compensation payments, according to the Berlin government. Housing activists have estimated the cost to be significantly lower.

Christian Pestalozza, a constitutional and public law professor at Berlin’s Free University, believes the situation invokes Article 15 of the German constitution, or Basic Law, which provides for the “socialization” of “land, natural resources and means of production” by transferring it to public ownership.

Housing associations and developers have argued that expropriation won’t solve the problem, saying the growing city urgently needs more housing — preferably in the form of new subsidized housing projects.

Activists, meanwhile, believe affordable rent is not only a necessity — they say it’s central to the city’s character.

“There needs to be some rules here for the game — it’s a city, not just open land for people to do what they want,” said Thomas McGath, a representative of Expropriate Deutsche Wohnen & Co., the group behind the campaign against rising rents. “It is not something that can be completely determined by the market.”

The rental difference between privately and publicly owned houses in Germany has substantially increased in recent years, though they are still cheaper than in other major European capitals like Paris and London.

    ‘Class struggle’

Campaign organizers complain the government’s measures to cool off the property market have failed.

“Many say this is a type of class struggle. Yes, that’s what it is. But we did not start it. We are taking defensive measures against the class struggler from the top who has for years been fighting against tenants,” campaign spokesman Rouzbeh Taheri told media ahead of the rally in Berlin.

Taheri believes it’s necessary to cut these companies down to size, stripping them of the influence they wield on determining market prices.

“It is about sending a signal on which direction the city wants to go. And a signal to speculators — telling them that your capital is not safe in Berlin,” Taheri said.

“We have to live somewhere. It’s unacceptable for housing to become a commodity that is sold off, where the only concern is profit,” said rental activist Daniel Diekmann.

Diekmann fully supports the referendum — he has been campaigning for housing rights for the last decade. He’s lived on the same street in central Berlin for the last 16 years, and has witnessed how investors have sold off part of the 106 apartments in his building and modernized them, making way for luxury flats. Some 80 tenants have already moved away.

For Diekmann, it was time to do something. “The problem has made its way into mainstream society,” he said.

“Having a place to live is a human right.”

Smaller protests took place Saturday in other cities across Germany such as Munich, Cologne and Dresden. Protest organizers spoke of demonstrations in 19 cities with 55,000 participants.”

  34. Powerful Blaze and Enormous Blast Shakes Building in Paris (VIDEO) (sputniknews, Apr 7, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201904071073890090-powerful-blaze-explosion-blast-paris/

“An enormous explosion ravaged a multi-story building in Boulevard Macdonald near the Gare du Nord Eurostar hub in Paris, rocking the city.

The fire erupted somewhere between the first and fifth floors of the eight-story building in the French capital’s 19th arrondissement, RT reported. Witnesses heard at least one violent explosion, which was recorded and has been widely shared on social media.

According to Gabriel Plus, a spokesman for the Paris fire brigade, cited by the Daily Mirror, there was “no gas supply into the building,” but “bottles of gas or a barbeque may have caught fire on a balcony, causing the explosion.”

“A number of people had been evacuated before our arrival and the reconnaissance we are conducting now suggests that no one is hurt or victim of the fire,” a police spokesman said.

Around 100 firefighters along with multiple fire trucks and ambulances were immediately dispatched to the scene in order to contain the blaze, however, it spread quickly and engulfed several floors. According to the Mirror, 27 flats have presumably been damaged.

Civil Protection Paris Seine (PCPS) has mobilized around 20 volunteers who are setting up beds for those affected. The organization also stands ready to provide “material and psychological” support to the victims.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, however, the blaze has damaged some electrical lines, as a number of electrical blackouts in the area have also been reported.”
