Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

  1. Erdo?an’s Dangerous Ambitions Threaten India and Beyond

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The age of empire has come and gone, but in some quarters, the imperialist dream is alive and well. Leaders continue to appear on the world stage from time to time to style themselves in this fashion. The latest entry in this category is Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, who is promoting himself as leader of the Muslim world to his coreligionists around the globe – particularly in India.

Recep Tayyip Erdo?an makes no secret of his imperialist ambitions. His heroic ideal is the Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamid II (1876-1909). During a commemoration ceremony on February 10, 2018 at Y?ld?z Palace in Istanbul, marking the sultan’s death centenary, the Turkish president lauded him as the “most important, most visionary and most strategic-minded.” Erdo?an described Turkey as “a continuation of the Ottomans…the borders have changed, forms of government have changed… But the essence is the same, the soul is the same, even many institutions are the same.”

And in the wake of the October 2, 2018, killing in Istanbul of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, allegedly by assassins sent by Riyadh, Erdo?an unequivocally declared Turkey to be “the only country that can lead the Muslim world.”

  2. Joshua Boyle’s estranged wife tells court they had a ‘rollercoaster’ relationship

Caitlan Coleman, the estranged wife of former Afghanistan hostage Joshua Boyle, told an Ottawa courtroom Wednesday that he abused her during their captivity and after they returned to Canada.

Coleman is testifying at Boyle’s assault trial, which is now in its third day.

Boyle, 35, is charged with offences including assault, sexual assault, unlawful confinement and causing someone to take a noxious substance. A majority of the charges relate to Coleman, though a second alleged victim cannot be identified due to a publication ban

Coleman testified via video link from another room in the courthouse. She told the court that she met Boyle as a teenager in a Star Wars online chatroom. The two met in person several years later and became a couple.

Coleman told court that her mental health declined after she met Boyle and that she turned to “self-harm.” She said Boyle told her that she had “serious psychological issues” and after doing research on their own, the couple concluded that she had borderline personality disorder. However, Coleman said she was never formally diagnosed with the disorder or treated by a professional.

Coleman described a tumultuous relationship marked by fights and reconciliations before the couple went on a trip to Central Asia. About a week after they entered Afghanistan, they were captured by a Taliban-linked network and held for five years.

Coleman testified Wednesday that Boyle beat, choked and threatened to kill her in the later years of their captivity. The couple had three children before they were freed and returned to Canada.

Coleman testified that Boyle started “treating me better” when they returned to Canada, but that changed after they left his parents’ place in Smiths Falls, Ont. She described an incident in November 2017 where Boyle allegedly forced her to take sleeping pills.

On Tuesday, court heard a recording of a 911 call Boyle made in December 2017 to say that his wife was threatening to kill herself.

Ottawa police Sgt. Shane Henderson, who responded to the 911 call, testified about his interactions with the couple on that night. When he eventually found Coleman at a hotel where her mother was staying, she told him she was not suicidal, he told the court on Tuesday.

Henderson said Coleman told him that Boyle had threatened to kill her and assaulted her “numerous times.” Henderson and other officers later returned to the couple’s apartment to arrest Boyle.

Under cross-examination by Boyle’s lawyer, Lawrence Greenspon, Henderson testified Wednesday that he saw no evidence of assault on Coleman that night, but that he believed there were reasonable grounds to arrest Boyle based on her statements.

  3. the gateway pundit – Muslim State Rep. Calls GOP Lawmaker’s in House Christian Prayer “Islamophobic” – Demands Censure (VIDEO)

Democrats in the Pennsylvania General Assembly are attacking a Christian GOP lawmaker who prayed to “Jesus” before the swearing-in of a fellow Muslim State Rep. as “blatantly Islamophobic.”

On Monday, a member of the Pennsylvania House offered a prayer before the swearing-in of the chamber’s first Muslim woman, Movita Johnson-Harrell.

Republican State Rep. Stephanie Borowicz praised Jesus about a dozen time during her prayer and thanked God that President Trump “stands besides Israel.” — this triggered the Muslim lawmaker and other Democrats in attendance.

Rep. Borowicz delivered the prayer shortly before Movita Johnson-Harrell, a Muslim woman elected to the Pennsylvania General Assembly — was sworn in.

Borowicz’s Christian prayer ‘offended’ the Muslim lawmaker and her guests – but Movita Johnson-Harrell is allowed to wear a hijab which is an outward profession of compliance to Sharia law and Americans are supposed to bow to her requests.

The Muslim lawmaker called for Borowicz to be censured over her Christian prayer.

A Christian being punished for praying to their Savior is a form of Sharia law — and this Muslim lawmaker is pushing for the Christian lawmaker to be punished.

“There should definitely be censure because we need to be promoting inclusion, not division,” state Rep. Movita Johnson-Harrell, told reporters.

  4. Niger: Boko Haram suicide bomb and gun attack in Diffa region kills at least 10 (thedefensepost, Mar 27, 2019)
    https://thedefensepost.com/2019/03/27/niger-boko-haram-suicide-bomb-gun-attack-nguigmi-diffa/

“Ten people were killed when at least two suicide bombers and gunmen staged a coordinated attack late Tuesday in a town in eastern Niger’s Diffa region which the local mayor blamed on Boko Haram.

“Two female suicide bombers blew themselves up and gunmen then attacked civilians,” Abba Kaya Issa, the mayor of the town of N’Guigmi, told AFP on Wednesday, March 27.

“We have a provisional toll of 10 dead plus the two suicide bombers,” along with “seven or eight” wounded, he said, blaming “Boko Haram elements” for the assault.

“One of the suicide bombers blew herself up in the courtyard of a policeman’s home, which is located inside the police barracks, and the second triggered her explosives belt between the town hall, the police barracks and the prefecture,” he said, referring to the office of the state representative.

A local resident said several houses had been burned and wounded children in the police camp had been taken to the local hospital.

Another inhabitant said “armed Boko Haram” attacked the district of Dileram, “killing civilians and torching homes.” A camp for internally displaced people is located in Dileram…”

  5. Several People Wounded after Huge Explosion Hits Swedish Capital (tasnimnews, Mar 27, 2019)
    https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2019/03/27/1977015/several-people-wounded-after-huge-explosion-hits-swedish-capital

“TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Several people were injured after a huge blast rocked the Swedish capital of Stockholm in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Swedish police received some calls overnight from people reporting loud banging noises in Vinsta in the western part of Stockholm, representative of the Swedish police Fredrik Andersson stated, Sputnik reported.

According to Andersson, the blast occurred at 1:00 AM local time (3:00 AM GMT).

Police have temporarily blocked off the area and started a preliminary investigation into the cause of the incident, however, at the moment there is no official information about the issue.

It is not currently clear what caused the explosion.

Windows at an adjacent building and nearby hotel were shattered in the blast, while a number of cars were also damaged, according to a police statement.

At least five people were injured, including two who were treated in hospital with mild injuries.

“No person has been detained,” police added.

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and a huge tourist hotspot with thousands visiting its 14 islands connected by 50 bridges.

This is the second large blast to rock the Swedish capital this month. Previously, a bus exploded in the center of Stockholm in the Klaratunneln tunnel and swiftly caught fire. The driver, however, managed to escape the vehicle with only minor injuries.”

    • An explosion hit an industrial area of Stockholm on Wednesday leaving at least five people injured, according to reports.

The incident happened during the early hours of Wednesday morning in Vallingby, a suburb in western Stockholm, causing damage to several buildings including a hotel, as seen in the footage.

The cause of the explosion is not known. Police have launched an investigation.

Two of the five injured people were treated in hospital with minor injuries.

  6. Chicago police release files in ‘Empire’ star Jussie Smollett case, day after charges dramatically dropped

Chicago police came out swinging Wednesday and released the full 61-page investigative report in the alleged Jussie Smollett hate crime hoax, one day after charges against the “Empire” star were dramatically dropped — but the move prompted a moot court order.

The release of the documents came one day after Cook County prosecutors dismissed a 16-count indictment against the actor, saying they had cut a deal with the TV star to perform two days of community service and forfeit his $10,000 bond to the city.

The move made it possible for Smollett’s attorneys to get his criminal case immediately sealed and wiped clean.

  7. Amnesty lambasts EU downscaling of Mediterranean migration mission (memo, Mar 27, 2019)
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190327-amnesty-lambasts-eu-downscaling-of-mediterranean-migration-mission/

“Amnesty International criticised the European Union on Wednesday for a “shameful” abdication of its humanitarian responsibilities after the bloc agreed to withdraw ships patrolling the Mediterranean for migrants attempting the perilous voyage, says Reuters.

After months of wrangling, the EU agreed this week to extend its Mediterranean naval mission called Operation Sophia for six months from the end of March – but only for air patrols and training of the Libyan coast guard.

“This is an outrageous abdication of EU governments’ responsibilities,” the international rights group said. It added:

This shameful decision has nothing to do with the needs of people who risk their lives at sea, but everything to do with the inability of European governments to agree on a way to share responsibility for them.

EU states have been at loggerheads over migration since a spike in Mediterranean arrivals caught the bloc by surprise in 2015, stretching social and security services and fuelling support for far-right, nationalist and populist groups.

Sea arrivals have fallen from more than a million in the peak year to some 140,000 people last year, according to UN data. But political tensions around migration run high in the EU, especially ahead of European Parliament election in May…”

  9. Turkey’s migration body calls for fair burden sharing (hurriyetdailynews, Mar 27, 2019)
    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkeys-migration-body-calls-for-fair-burden-sharing-142208

“A fair burden sharing is necessary for a better future for our society and migrants, said an official from Turkey’s Interior Ministry on March 26.

“Otherwise, we might face a new crisis in Turkey, Greece and Europe,” said Abdullah Ayaz, who heads the migration management department at the ministry, at an event in Brussels.

Ayaz recalled that Turkey hosts the largest number of migrants in the world, almost 4.8 million migrants, 3.6 of whom are Syrians.

He said there are more than 900,000 residence permit holders in Turkey and they are expected to reach a million at the end of 2019.

Explaining that they have made serious efforts for migrants from Syria and other countries, Ayaz said: “We provide immigrants with access to basic public services, such as health and education. We are also trying to integrate them into the labor market.”

Ayaz stressed that 2 million Syrians in Turkey were at working age and said their integration into the labor market was not easy.

He went on to say that for a better migration management, the root cause for migration should be searched for in their countries of origin.

Turkey has been a main route for irregular migrants trying to cross to Europe, especially since 2011, the start of the Syrian civil war.

Over 265,000 irregular migrants were held in Turkey in 2018, according to the Turkish Interior Ministry.

Syria has only just begun to emerge from a devastating conflict that began in early 2011 when the Assad regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected ferocity.”

    • 85 percent of Syrian children still suffer from war trauma: Report (hurriyetdailynews, Mar 27, 2019)
      http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/85-percent-of-syrian-children-still-suffer-from-war-trauma-report-142194

“Some 85 percent of the Syrian children living in Turkey suffer from the bitter memories of war, according to a new report, which also cited that some 47 percent of them need psychological support.

The “Education Research Report for Syrian Children,” prepared by the Istanbul-based association “Mavi Kalem” (Blue Pen), Istanbul’s Provincial Directorate for National Education and the Malala Fund, has revealed impressive progress concerning the issue, but shows that the devastating impacts of the Syrian war still haunt the youngsters.

“Some 85 percent of Syrian students still live with the memories of war. We have seen that these have different effects on female and male students,” Gülcan K?l?ç, the project’s coordinator, was quoted as saying by state-run Anadolu Agency at an Istanbul event organized to disclose the findings of the report.

K?l?ç further elaborated that 47 percent of Syrian students are in need of psychological support.

“Some 58.3 percent of male students, for instance, have the tendency to be more aggressive, while this figure is 17.1 percent for female students. We have seen that the trauma of the war has caused 47.9 percent of Syrian girls to become introverted,” she said.

“Besides this, fear, apathy, depression and solitude overtly show the effects of war on children,” she added.

It is not always easy to detect the children’s problems so one-to-one interviews with 252 teachers in contact with Syrian children aged 10-14 were conducted for more realistic outcomes, K?l?ç said.

“Some 84.7 percent of teachers said the quality of education can be either qualified as average, good or very good. One of the most striking results of the report is that 83.7 percent of teachers still sense the traumatic sentiments of war and mass migration [that the children felt],” she said.

According to the coordinator, some 86.5 percent of male students still suffer from war trauma while this figure is 84.5 percent for females.

Some 90,000 Syrians out of 150,000 school-aged children in Istanbul are attending schools in the province, said Serkan Gür, the deputy director of the Istanbul provincial education directorate.

“The schooling rate rose to 98 percent from 70 percent and this rate is 65 percent in Istanbul. That we have reached these figures, despite all the difficulties in a country like Turkey which has a rapid and intense flow of migrants, shows our success,” he said.

Schooling rates are relatively lower among male students, as opposed to female students, according to Gür.

Gür also stressed that the works of the Education Ministry contribute significantly to Turkey’s migration policy.

“We attach great importance to psychological support for these students to have peaceful lives as they come from compelling conditions of warfare,” he said.

An important party of this is the education teachers undergo, according to the deputy director.

“We have trained about 1,600 teachers who are tasked with the education of Syrian children, and we continue to do so,” he said.

“About 700 teachers were granted citizenships during this process. We have very qualified and equipped teachers. They are both doing wonderful works to educate Syrian children and contribute to Turkey’s developments,” he added.”

  11. Turkey: 1,000+ soldiers out over FETO links in 9 months (aa, Mar 27, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/turkey-1-000-soldiers-out-over-feto-links-in-9-months/1431222

“Some 1,164 military personnel have been sacked for their suspected links to FETO, the group behind the 2016 defeated coup attempt, since Turkey lifted its two-year-old state of emergency on July 18, 2018, according to security sources.

Some 601 land forces personnel, 188 naval forces personnel, and 375 air forces personnel have been dismissed, and 106 retired soldiers stripped of their ranks, said the sources, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media.

Investigations continue into personnel who may be affiliated with the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) in command, headquarters, and other institutions of the National Defense Ministry, the sources added.

FETO and its U.S.- based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary. “

      https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/107-feto-fugitives-brought-back-to-turkey-so-far/1431325

“A total of 107 FETO terror group members who fled to abroad have been brought to Turkey so far, the country’s justice minister said on Wednesday.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency in the capital Ankara, Abdulhamit Gul said that Turkey has requested extradition of 504 people from 91 countries.

“The number of FETO members brought to Turkey [so far] has been 107,” Gul said.

Gul also recalled that Turkey has sent seven requests to the U.S. to extradite the ringleader of Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) Fetullah Gulen, a longtime resident of Pennsylvania.

Turkey met the judicial cooperation requests by the U.S. over the FETO probe in Turkey and extraditions, he added.

“Whatever necessary for the extradition of Gulen has been completed in all aspects, in accordance with extradition law. From now time, whatever actually needs to happen is extradition to be performed,” he said.

In his interview, the justice minister said that they requested an appointment to meet with William Barr, the recently appointed U.S. Attorney General, to discuss judicial cooperation between Turkey and the U.S.

“Following the elections, we will have the opportunity to discuss [with Barr] these face to face,” he added.

FETO and its leader Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016 in Turkey, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, including the military, police and the judiciary.”

  12. More than 290 irregular migrants held across Turkey (aa, Mar 27, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/turkey/more-than-290-irregular-migrants-held-across-turkey/1431001

“At least 293 irregular migrants were held across Turkey on Tuesday, according to multiple security sources.

In northwestern Canakkale province, 46 migrants were held by gendarmerie forces. All of them were referred to provincial migration offices.

Another 176 irregular migrants from Libya, Egypt, Afghanistan, Algeria, Morocco, Palestine and Eritrea were caught in northwestern Edirne province.

In Suleymanpasa district of northwestern Tekirdag province, 10 migrants were caught while trying to cross the border.

All of them were taken to provincial migration management offices for further procedures.

In northeastern Bayburt province, security forces stopped a suspicious bus and held 61 migrants who entered Turkey illegally.

Turkey has been a main route for irregular migrants trying to cross into Europe, especially since 2011, when the Syrian civil war began.

  13. Germany: Muslim kindergarten loses appeal against closure (DW, Mar 27, 2019)
    https://www.dw.com/en/germany-muslim-kindergarten-loses-appeal-against-closure/a-48071730

“State officials had ordered “Al Nur” to close following revelations that inappropriate literature had been shared at the kindergarten. The day care center is the only Muslim kindergarten in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The only Muslim kindergarten in the western state of Rhineland-Palatinate lost its appeal to stay open after an administrative court confirmed state officials’ concerns about the school’s ties to an Islamist ideology.

The state’s decision to revoke Al Nur kindergarten’s license was lawful because evidence showed links between the school’s administrators and the extremist Salafist ideology, an administrative court in the city of Mainz said.

The court said the links made it difficult for children at Al Nur to integrate into German society and compromised their independence.

The court said efforts by Arab Nil-Rhein, the association that runs the kindergarten, to distance itself from Salafist thought were “not convincing.”

    ‘We accept the constitution’

Arab Nil-Rhein chairman Samy El Hagrasy said the association would lodge another appeal with a higher-level administrative court.

Following the state’s decision to withdraw the license in February, Hagrasy dismissed allegations that the association was promoting Salafism.

“We accept and respect the constitution,” he said.

But state officials became concerned about Al Nur after revelations emerged that inappropriate literature had been shared at the kindergarten and that Arab Nil-Rhein had worked with an infamous figure within the ultraconservative Salafist movement.

The administrative court in Mainz delayed the kindergarten’s closure from March 31 to April 30 to give parents more time to prepare their children for other day care centers.”
