Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We muse use it while we can.

  1. Britain’s War on Christianity: Part I

The unlawful arrest of a Christian street preacher in London has drawn attention to the continuing use of hate speech laws to silence Christians in multicultural Britain — even as incendiary speech by Muslim extremists is routinely ignored.

On February 23, Oluwole Ilesanmi, a 64-year-old Nigerian evangelist known as Preacher Olu, was arrested at Southgate Station in North London after complaints that his message about Jesus was “Islamophobic.” A video of the arrest, viewed more than two million times, shows how two police officers ordered the man to stop preaching because “nobody wants to listen to that,” confiscated his Bible and then arrested him for “a breach of peace.”

The video was filmed by Ambrosine Shitrit, co-founder of Eye on Antisemitism, a London-based organization that tracks anti-Semitism on social media. Shortly before Ilesanmi’s arrest, Shitrit had seen him interacting with another man, who turned out to be a Muslim. She thought the Muslim was about to assault Ilesanmi when she went over and started filming with her phone. When the police arrived in response to an emergency call, the Muslim man left the scene.

The video shows Ilesanmi pleading with police, “Don’t take my Bible away. Don’t take my Bible away.” An officer responded: “You should have thought about that before being racist.” A popular blogger known as Archbishop Cranmer tweeted what many people doubtless felt: “Dear @metpoliceuk, Setting aside the appalling ignorance of these two officers, would you handle a copy of the Qur’an like that?”

  2. Turkey: Putin’s Ally in NATO?

    by Burak Bekdil

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/13882/turkey-putin-ally-nato

On September 17, 1950, more than 68 years ago, the first Turkish brigade left the port of Mersin on the Mediterranean coast, arriving, 26 days later, at Busan in Korea. Turkey was the first country, after the United States, to answer the United Nations’ call for military aid to South Korea after the North attacked that year. Turkey sent four brigades (a total of 21,212 soldiers) to a country that is 7,785 km away. By the end of the Korean War, Turkey had lost 741 soldiers killed in action. The U.N. Memorial Cemetery in Busan embraces 462 Turkish soldiers.

All that Turkish effort was aimed at membership in NATO, a seat that Turkey eventually won in February 18, 1952. During the Cold War, Turkey remained a staunch U.S. and NATO ally, defending the alliance’s southeastern flank. Nevertheless, events have changed dramatically since the Islamist government of Prime Minister (now President) Recep Tayyip Erdo?an first came to power in November 2002. The “Turkish retreat” did not happen overnight.

In April 2009, military teams from Turkey and its neighbor, President Bashar al-Assad’s Syria, crossed the border and visited outposts during joint military drills. That was the first time a NATO army had exercised with Syria’s military.

In September 2010, Turkish and Chinese air force jets conducted joint exercises in Turkish airspace. That, too, was the first time a NATO air force had military exercises with China’s.

  3. France: Workers unions march in Paris in support for Yellow Vests

French workers unions organised a strike and a rally in support for the Yellow Vest movement in Paris, on Tuesday.

Organised by French unions such as CGT, FO, Solidaires, UNEF, UNL and UNL-SD, the en-mass mobilisation aims to protest against France’s growing social discontent, reforms in public education, price hikes, environmental issues and a bid to achieve true gender equality.

20 dead as bombs target Sunday Mass in Philippine cathedral
Two bombs exploded outside the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, which has been hit by bombs in the past.

MANILA, Philippines — Two bombs minutes apart tore through a Roman Catholic cathedral on a southern Philippine island where Muslim militants are active, killing at least 20 people and wounding 81others during a Sunday Mass, officials said.

Witnesses said the first blast inside the Jolo cathedral in the provincial capital sent churchgoers, some of them wounded, to stampede out of the main door. Army troops and police posted outside were rushing in when the second bomb went off about one minute later near the main entrance, causing more deaths and injuries. The military was checking a report that the second explosive device may have been attached to a parked motorcycle.

  7. Dallas’ biggest billboard company refuses to run public service ad to help at-risk Muslim girls while running ads promoting hijab and “honor”

Pamela Geller: Dallas Billboard Company Refuses My Ad Offering Help to At-Risk Muslim Girls

It is quickly becoming impossible to criticize any aspect of Islam, no matter how violent or repressive, in the public square. My latest billboard battle is a case in point.

A month ago, a number of concerned Texans wrote me about a hijab promotion campaign on Outfront (previously known as CBS Outdoor) billboards running in Dallas. Local media wrote it up in glowing terms, of course.

KERA News ran a puff piece with the enthusiastic headline “Billboard Campaign In Dallas Aims To Dispel Misconceptions About Islam And The Hijab.” It featured a large photo of the billboard itself, which read “Respect – Honor – Strength. HIJAB. The Dress of Modesty.” It also offered a phone number for those with “questions about Islam and women.” Not a word, of course, about the many girls and women who have been threatened and even killed for not wearing the hijab in a practice commonly known as “honor killing.” This ad’s use of the word “honor” is especially cynical.

And then, of course, comes the post-ad followup describing horrific responses to the ad. The New York Post just ran yet another Muslims-are-victims-of-Islamophobia piece: “Muslim call center gets hundreds of hate calls for promoting hijabs on billboard.”

The suspect, Gökmen Tanis, in the Netherlands mass shooting fought jihad wars in Chechnya was arrested for connection to ISIS. and was reportedly the suspect in a 2017 rape case that was heard in court just two weeks ago. Why was he at large?

    • Why was he at large?

It’s a lot like that old definition of stress:

The conflict that occurs when your mind overrides your body’s natural urge to beat the living shit out of somebody who desperately needs it.

So it is with the case of this unincarcerated Gökmen Tanis: To where polite society is being stressed by the overriding of it’s own natural urge to slowly dissect and bury with tweezers terminate with extreme prejudice ambulatory turds like Tanis and all other terrorist filth.

It’s quite a lot of stress. As in: The kind that slowly builds up and then catastrophically releases in the now-recognized disasters of dam breaches, bridge collapses, and other structural failures.

Just like those irritatingly difficult-to-ignore breaches, collapses, and failures, drastic social discontinuities—more often than not—manifest as unstoppable events previously called “French revolutions” and other such festive appellations for hijinks typically involving disastrous dehiscence of the necktal area.

  10. Democrats use Nazi policy to get registration, then confiscation, of your guns
By Gerald Lostutter – on March 18, 2019

Happiness is a warm gun, sang the Beatles; but Democrats are singing registration, then confiscation, of your guns. A “Firearm Registration” bill was introduced in the Pennsylvania Legislature on March 8, 2019.

Safety is the mantra of anti-gun activists, but their claim of control is a means to their goal of a gun-free society. This progressive policy can be implemented only by compliant citizens. But political opponents, the “deniers,” must be eliminated by social shaming or civil and criminal penalties. There are historical lessons of totalitarian governments, which rule because citizens have been deprived of weapons.

    The Nazi policy

In Nazi Firearms Law and the Disarming of the German Jews, page 537, Stephen P. Halbrook observed:

“The record establishes that a well-meaning liberal republic would enact a gun control act that would later be highly useful to a dictatorship. That dictatorship could then consolidate its power by massive search and seizure operations against political opponents, under the hysterical ruse that such persons were ‘Communist’ firearm owners.”

“It could enact its own new firearms law, disarming anyone the police deemed ‘dangerous’ and exempting members of the party that controlled the state. It could exploit a tragic shooting of a government official to launch a [sic] pogrom, under the guise that Jewish firearm owners were dangerous and must be disarmed.”

“This dictatorship could, generally, disarm the people of the nation it governed and then disarm those of every nation it conquered.”

  11. Daesh Issues Call for ‘Vengeance’ Following New Zealand Mosque Massacre (sputniknews, Mar 19, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/world/201903191073380576-Daesh-Call-Vengeance-NZ-Mosque-Massacre/

“After nearly half a year of silence, Daesh spokesman Abu Hassan al-Mujahir posted a new message on social media Monday calling for Muslims to “take vengeance for their religion” in response to the terrorist attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, that killed 50 Muslims last Friday.

A 44-minute recorded message was posted on Telegram Monday from the Daesh spokesperson, who had been presumed dead, the New York Times reported. In the recording, Mujahir called for revenge killings in retaliation for the Christchurch attack on two mosques by a 28-year-old Australian gunman who himself claimed to be killing in revenge for Muslim terror attacks on Europeans.

“This slaughter in those two mosques is no more than another tragedy among past and coming tragedies, which will be followed by scenes of force that reach all who were tricked to living among the polytheist,” Mujahir said, the UK Independent reported.

“The scenes of death in the two mosques are enough to wake the sleep and incite the supporters of the caliphate who live there, to take vengeance for their religion and for sons of their Ummah, who are killed everywhere in the world.”

It’s long been the political line of Daesh that Muslims and non-Muslims cannot live side by side, so events like that in Christchurch are grist to their extremist mill.

Since the Friday attack, New Zealand’s government has raised the national security threat level, and senior officials have had national security crisis meetings, the New Zealand Herald reported. The Independent noted they’re preparing for “domino effect” atrocities…”

    https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2019/03/19/1972766/iran-registers-stfi-mechanism-commensurate-with-instex

“A mechanism similar to the European Union’s mechanism for trade with Iran (the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges or INSTEX) was registered by Tehran.

The mechanism which is called the Special Trade and Finance Institute (STFI) was introduced after technical and expert negotiations between Iranian delegations and representatives from the three European countries (Britain, France and Germany).

The move is the result of the efforts made by the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) and a group of Iranian governmental and private banks and a number of companies will participate in it.

Earlier, the president of the INSTEX traveled to Tehran to hold talks with senior Iranian officials on ways to make the mechanism operational.

INSTEX is based in Paris and managed by the German banking expert Per Fischer.

The three European countries that are signatories to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal are reportedly going to use the channel initially only to sell food, medicine and medical devices in Iran.

In May 2018, the US president pulled his country out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal that was achieved in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1641166/us-urges-iran-stop-missile-program-says-destabilizing-middle-east

“A senior US arms control official said on Tuesday that Iran’s missile program is detribalizing the Middle East and raising the risk of a “regional arms race” through the provision of such weapons to armed groups in Lebanon and Yemen.

US President Donald Trump said when he quit a landmark 2015 deal that lifted international sanctions against Iran in exchange for limits on its nuclear activities that it failed to rein in Iran’s missile program or curb its regional meddling.

The United States has accused Iran of defying a UN Security Council resolution by carrying out a ballistic missile test and two satellite launches since December.

“Iran’s missile program is a key contributor to increased tensions and destabilization in the region, increasing the risk of a regional arms race,” Yleem Poblete, Assistant Secretary of State for Arms Control, Verification and Compliance, said in a speech to the UN-sponsored Conference on Disarmament.

“Iran must immediately cease activities related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, and halt the proliferation of missiles and missile technology to terror groups and other non-state actors,” she said, denouncing Iran’s support to the Houthi movement in Yemen and to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

She said Iran had provided ballistic missiles to the Houthis that were fired into Saudi Arabia and unmanned aerial systems to Houthi groups that enable strikes against land-based targets in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

“We are committed to aggressively countering Iran’s regional proliferation of ballistic missiles and its unlawful arms transfers,” she added.

Poblete urged “all responsible countries” to enforce United Nations Security Council resolutions restricting the transfer of missile-related technologies to Iran.

She further accused Iran of “pursuing pharmaceutical-based agents for offensive purposes”, but did not elaborate.

An Iranian diplomat took the floor to reject her remarks as “cheap, unprofessional, false, irrelevant, and pathetic” and accused the United States of “sabotaging” the Geneva forum.

“We should all be truly worried about the US representative’s misbehavior as we all warn that they may turn violent since they lack any human logic to talk and listen in a normal manner as we are used to,” he said.”

“Egyptian state-owned carmaker El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing and Japan’s Nissan have reached an initial agreement to produce 100,000 cars a year in Egypt, the minister for public enterprises said on Tuesday.

The agreement is part of efforts to boost the proportion of locally made auto components in cars assembled in Egypt with a view to exporting the majority of the vehicles, Hesham Tawfik said, according to Reuters.

A final contract is expected to be signed within three months, according to a ministry statement, which did not give a target date for the production of 100,000 cars a year.

There have been reports of government plans to revive Nasr Automotive, which specialised in making local versions of Fiat cars before it ceased production shortly before Egypt’s 2011 uprising, according to state media.

Its revenue rose to 5 million Egyptian pounds ($289,185) on assets of 350 million EGP in the 2016-17 financial year, from zero the previous year, according to an Egyptian finance ministry report.”

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-tunisia-security/tunisian-forces-kill-three-islamic-state-militants-near-algerian-border-idUSKCN1R02P7

“Tunisian special forces killed three suspected Islamic State militants on Tuesday after clashes in mountains near the Algerian border, a security official told Reuters.

Days earlier, Islamic State had released pictures of militants carrying weapons in mountains where they have hidden for years.

“Our forces killed three terrorists suspected of belonging to Daesh after clashes in the Saloum mountains in Kasserine,” Colonel Houssem Jbebli told Reuters, using an Arabic acronym for the group.

One of the Arab world’s most secular nations, Tunisia became a target for militants after being hailed as a beacon of democratic change with an uprising against autocrat Zine Abidine Ben Ali in 2011.

Some militants operate in remote areas near the border with Algeria.

Tunisia suffered three major attacks in 2015, including two against tourists, one at a museum in Tunis and the second on a beach in Sousse. The third targeted presidential guards in the capital. All three attacks were claimed by Islamic State.

After collapsing, tourism has since gradually recovered.”

  20. Australian Muslim Leader Denied Entry to New Zealand (moroccoworldnews, Mar 19, 2019)
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2019/03/268442/australian-muslim-shady-alsuleiman-new-zealand/

“The head of the Australian National Imams Council, Sheikh Shady Alsuleiman, was refused entry to New Zealand following a terrorist attack on two Mosque in Christchurch that left 50 dead.

Rabat – The senior Muslim cleric, who advises the Australian government on Islamic issues, was planning to fly to Christchurch to support the Muslim community as they bury the victims of the terror attack before he was told by New Zealand authorities not show up to the airport as he did not have a special visa.

“I was shocked. It’s sad to see something like this happen, especially during this time of challenges and difficulties,” Alsuleiman told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Alsuleiman was also barred from entering Denmark in April 2018, after the country introduced a law barring certain preachers from entering the county, Shady included. The Danish law imposes a ban on those that “display behavior that gives reason to believe the foreign national could pose a threat to the public order’.

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) Denmark’s sited Denmark’s decision as the reason why Sheikh Shady Alsuleiman was refused entry to the country. “[INZ] can confirm that Mr. Alsuleiman was advised that he was unable to travel to New Zealand visa-free as a result of being excluded from Denmark,” said national border manager Stephanie Greathead.

However, the decision was soon overturned after Shady contacted Australia’s Department of Homeland Affairs who put pressure on New Zealand to grand the muslim cleric a special visa, which they did so less than 24 hours after the complaint was made.

Greathead followed up her statement by saying “Because of the exclusion he required what’s known as a special direction enabling a visa to be granted. Taking into account all the circumstances Mr Alsuleiman has now been granted the special direction and a one-month visitor visa.”

Alsuleiman previously came under fire from the Australian government after a video emerged of the cleric saying homosexuality spreads diseases. The prime minister at the time, Malcolm Turnbull, who had an ifter dinner with the cleric just a week before, denounced the statements as “unacceptable.”

Alsuleiman released a statement in response, saying “I have previously noted passages in the holy Quran which do not support homosexuality, however, I always follow such statements with a personal commitment to tolerance and encouragement that all Muslims and all people approach all individuals, no matter their faith, race or sexuality, in a considerate and respectful way.”

Alsuleiman is also notably on the ISIS’ hitlist, after a terrorist propaganda video called for his murder because he advocates against violence in the name of islam, and encourages Muslims to “follow the laws of the land.”

Australian Imams Council spokesman Bilal Rauf commented on New Zealand’s original decision to bar Alsuleiman, telling the Sydney Morning Herald “We don’t understand the reasons why he has been placed on the list,” he said. “That’s something that Sheikh Shady will inquire into and seek to address.”

“It’s unfortunate to see that sometimes screening matters are not getting correctly done,” he added.

The Sheikh will now fly to New Zealand on Wednesday, and he said was “not going to make any assumptions” regarding why he was denied entry to the country iniatially.”

  21. Muslim staffer quits Sky News Australia, says channel ‘helps legitimise radical views’ (tribune, Mar 19, 2019)
    https://tribune.com.pk/story/1932908/9-muslim-staffer-quits-sky-news-australia-says-channel-helps-legitimise-radical-views/

“A young Muslim employee has stepped down from her job at Australia’s Sky News following the Christchurch mosque attack, accusing the channel of helping to “legitimise radical views,” The Independent reported.

Rashna Farrukh said she submitted her resignation to her junior liaison role because she felt the broadcaster’s commentators were “increasing polarisation and paranoia” by maligning “every minority group in the country”.

“As a young Muslim woman, I had many crises of conscience working there, but the events of March 15 snapped me out of the endless cycle of justifying my job to myself,” she wrote.

Farrukh began working for the news agency three years ago at the age of 19.

Her role involved helping to arrange guests at the channel’s parliamentary studio in Canberra.

“I realised pretty quickly though that the Sky News I worked on wasn’t focused on reporting facts and informing the public. Rather, conservative media commentators came together with current and former right-wing politicians, disseminating misinformation which bordered on conspiracies,” she said.

“I compromised my values and beliefs to stand idly by as I watched commentators and pundits instil more and more fear into their viewers,” Farrukh added.

“I stood on the other side of the studio doors while they slammed every minority group in the country — mine included — increasing polarisation and paranoia among their viewers,” the former employee said.

Interviews which Farrukh said had disturbed her included Australian Conservative senator Cory Bernardi calling for a burqa ban and One Nation Party founder Pauline Hanson proposing an “It’s OK to be white” motion, a slogan which has been linked to white supremacy.

She added she had answered calls from viewers “who yelled about immigrants and Muslims ruining Australia” and “did not realise that the person on the other end of the phone was both of those things”.

“Some nights I felt physically sick, others I even shed tears in my car on the way home,” Farrukh wrote.

She added: “Over the past few years, I was playing a role — no matter how small — in a network whose tone I knew would help legitimise radical views present in the fringes of our society.

“Now, I am done being a part of something I do not stand for, and I urge other young journalists to do the same.””

“Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has once again brought up the issue of restoring the death penalty, vowing to approve such legislation if parliament passes it.

“We have done wrong by removing the death penalty. It offends me to feed those in prison, those who martyred 251 of our citizens, police officers and soldiers on the night of the July 15, 2016 coup attempt, even though they are serving life sentences,” Erdo?an said on March 19 at a rally for the upcoming local elections in the northern province of Zonguldak.

“I have been saying this all the time, if parliament passes such legislation, I will approve it,” he added…”

  23. Germany’s Muslims call for tougher security at mosques (aa, Mar 19, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/germany-s-muslims-call-for-tougher-security-at-mosques/1422983

“Germany’s Muslim community called on authorities on Tuesday to step up security around mosques in the country after recent terror attacks in New Zealand.

Aiman Mazyek, chairman of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany, told a news conference in Berlin that visible police presence around mosques would help deter potential attacks by extremists.

“This would also have a symbolic meaning,” he said, adding that the Muslim community would feel that “the state and society take responsibility for their security.”

Germany has witnessed growing racism and Islamophobia in recent years fueled by far-right parties, which have exploited fears over the refugee crisis and terrorism.

Police recorded 578 hate crimes against Muslims between January and September last year. At least 40 Muslims were injured in the attacks, which were carried out mostly by far-right extremists.

Germany, a country of over 81 million people, has the second-largest Muslim population in Western Europe after France. Among the country’s nearly 4.7 million Muslims, 3 million are of Turkish origin.”

  24. Sweden Democrat quits party over ‘off-the-wall, crazy’ mosque criticism (thelocal, Mar 19, 2019)
    https://www.thelocal.se/20190319/sweden-democrat-leaves-party-over-off-the-wall-crazy-mosque-criticism

“A Sweden Democrat (SD) local politician who proposed building a mosque has requested to leave the party, telling The Local that the party’s internal rules against buildings with non-Western architecture were “like a page torn out of the Nuremberg racial laws”.

Mark Collins, 63, from Kramfors in the Västernorrland region, sent an email requesting to leave the party on Tuesday morning, after his proposal was rejected as “a serious infraction”, and “an incredibly problematic incident” by the party’s leadership.

He will now sit on the local council either as an independent or join another party.

“They said they’re going to discipline me with a rule that SD has against any building or architecture that does not resemble Western culture,” he said of the party’s internal reaction.

“It seems like a page torn out of the Nuremberg racial laws,” he told The Local, referring to the anti-Semitic laws introduced by Germany’s Nazi Party in 1935. “It’s absolutely absurd, it’s off-the-wall, crazy shit.”

Collins, who moved to Sweden from New Jersey in 1974 and works as a veterinary surgeon, said that while he had intended his proposal to shake things up, he had not expected it to attract any attention outside the town.

“It really blew up in my face, didn’t it?” he laughed. “Those frigging Irish genes are constantly fucking with me.”

He explained that he had hoped that the proposal would shake the sleepy left-wing Social Democrat stronghold out of its complacency over long-running population decline.

“I’m in this little tiny place up in Norrland, and it was mostly meant as a thought-provoking thing to try and get people up here, because immigrants are the only group that is mobile, but I never thought it would be such a big thing.”

While he knew it was a provocative suggestion coming from a Sweden Democrat, a party known for its anti-immigration policies, he claimed he had not expected negative feedback from the party at a national level.

“I actually expected locally that they would say ‘Mark, you’re an asshole’,” he said. “But this is how stupid I am, I never thought for a minute that they [the party leadership] would have anything against it. I thought they’d shrug their shoulders and say, ‘what do we care what they do up there’.”

Sweden Democrat press officer Henrik Gustafsson told Swedish news agency TT that he was “surprised” by Collins’ original proposal which “goes against our policy in general, our manifesto and the policies we pursue to reduce segregation and increase cohesion and community in society. To us, it is important to talk about political solutions that increase and promote inclusion and not the opposite.”

Since the furore over his proposal became national news, Collins said he had faced a torrent of abuse and threats over social media.

“I’m constantly getting hate mail from SD supporters. You just see this pent up, ultra-right frustration, coming from a lot more people than I thought.”

Some of the threats had been disturbing, he said.

“People are ringing me up with hidden numbers, saying ‘It’s Tommy from Stockholm’. There’s all sorts of mudslinging going down, all for this silly little motion in Kramfors.”

“It’s uncomfortable. It’s creepy. I’m a little bit worried about crazy people.”

He said he was disappointed both that the Sweden Democrat leadership had come back so forcefully against his proposal, and that they had not come forward to defend him against the vitriol he was facing.

“You’d think SD would come out and say ‘we don’t support these right-wing extremists’,” he said. “I didn’t think they were still back in the dark old days. I thought that they had moved on.” “

  25. Australia: Thousands rally against racism after Christchurch mosque attacks

Thousands stood in solidarity against racism and Islamophobia at a rally in Melbourne on Tuesday, days after the militant attacks on two mosques in Christchurch on Friday.

Protesters chanted anti-racist slogans as they filled the streets of Melbourne’s CBD and accused the government of fear-mongering against Muslims in Australia.

“Whenever our politicians dog-whistle, whenever they attack Muslims, or whenever they lock up refugees, they’re helping to fuel attacks such as this,” one speaker stated.

A statement from Australian Senator Fraser Anning in the wake of the shootings sparked international outrage on Friday, after he blamed Muslim immigration to New Zealand for the attack. More than 1 million Australians have since signed a petition demanding the Senator’s removal from Parliament for his comments.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison condemned the shooting on Saturday, calling it “an attack against all of us.”

  26. MEMRI TV – Panel at Australian Mosque following NZ Massacre: We Should Be Jealous of the Victims

On March 15, 2019, the Al-Azhar Mosque in Belmore, a suburb of Sydney, Australia hosted an emergency panel discussion following the massacre at the mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand.

One of the speakers, Sheikh Jamil El-Biza, suggested that attack was the result of governments’ and politicians’ defense of freedom of speech.

Sheikh Jalal Chami, another one of the panel members, said that it is an honor for the victims of the shooting to have died for Islam and that Muslims should be happy for them and pray that they are accepted as martyrs.

He said: “We give our life freely for the sake of Allah and His religion.”

Another panel member, Sheikh Omar Najjarine, said that people in Australia and New Zealand have thoughts of harming Muslims like the Christchurch shooter did.

He also said that he felt jealousy towards the victims of the shooting because they entered Paradise, and he said that it is sad that most people would be thankful if they escaped or survived such a shooting, when they would have lost out on the blessing of dying as a martyr.

Sheikh Najjarine added: “Who would ever think that a person in a non-Muslim country [who is not waging] Jihad could attain martyrdom.

That’s not special?” The panel was streamed live on Al-Azhar Mosque’s Facebook page and was aired on Al-Jazeera TV with Arabic voice over.

Sheikh Zoheir Abouhamza Issa, Sheikh Mohammad Anwar Sahib, and Sheikh Nassim Abdi also participated in the panel.

Al-Azhar Mosque is part of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah Association Australia (ASWJ Australia), which has been the subject of media criticism in the past.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan set up the Violent Reduction Unit in a bid to tackle the worrying trend of knife crime in London.

The project brings together specialists from across the UK to tackle violent crime and its causes.

Following the announcement that an additional £100m would be given to police forces to help tackle knife crimes, Police Federation chair John Apter warned that sum would be “nowhere near enough”.

Speaking on Sky News, he said: “This is a drop in the ocean when it comes to money that’s not only been stripped from policing, but other budgets, the social services budget, the education budget, and this is dealing with a crisis so yes, it’s going to help a little bit, but it’s not enough.”

The money would be used in the seven worst-hit areas, which may up around 70 percent of knife crime.

The worst forces cover London, West Midlands, Merseyside, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, South Wales and Greater Manchester.”
