Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We muse use it while we can.

  1. France: Informant on Terror Watchlist on Trial for Murder of Pregnant Wife (breitbart, Mar 17, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/03/17/france-informant-on-terror-watchlist-on-trial-for-murder-of-pregnant-wife/

“35-year-old Adil Aazizi faces murder charges for the shooting of his pregnant wife in 2016, as new information reveals the suspected Islamist was also an informant for French security services.

The murder of 29-year-old Leila, who was shot in the head, took place on June 2nd in 2016 at the home of the married couple in Bonnières-sur-Seine.

Around 9 p.m. that night he is said to have phoned local gendarmes and admitted to the murder and told them where to find the murder weapon, a Mauser pistol, Le Parisien reports.

After his arrest, Adil reportedly admitted that he committed the murder after being told by his son and mother-in-law that his wife had another lover and then proceeded to speak to the man on the phone.

He also reasoned that the child being carried by his wife was unlikely to be his, and killed her in revenge.

Adil has been on the S-File terror list due to spending time along the Syrian-Turkish border, where he claimed to be involved in humanitarian work.

During the initial interrogation of Adil by the gendarmes, the officers say they received a visit from the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI), France’s internal intelligence service, saying that Adil had worked for them as an informant.

“During the first hours of police custody, I received the visit of two agents of the DGSI who informed me that Adil A. was working for them,” one of the officers said in court Thursday.

During the trial, Adil has maintained that while he did shoot his wife, he did not do it intentionally, saying that while he had threatened her with the pistol he did not mean for it to fire. A verdict in the case is expected early next week.

While there are an estimated 25,000 or so individuals on the S-File watchlist, the General Directorate for External Security (DGSE) has claimed that there is nowhere near enough manpower to observe them all.

The lack of resources has allowed several S-File members to plan and commit attacks and engage in other behaviours, such as stealing a USB drive full of personal information on intelligence officials.”

  2. Italy: New Democratic Party Sec slams Salvini for government’s ‘darkness’

The centre-left Democratic Party officially appointed its new secretary Nicola Zingaretti during its national assembly in Rome on Sunday.

Zingaretti, two time regional president of Lazio, won the party primaries on March 3rd with a huge 65 per cent.

During his inaugural speech, Zingaretti criticised the populist government of Giuseppe Conte, saying: “Conflict is increasing because [Matteo] Salvini’s right-wing is colonising its ally and it is imprinting its darkness on the general message that this government is sending to Italians.”

  3. Ocasio-Cortez Gets Slammed For Politicizing Terror Attack, Mocking Prayer, Blaming NRA

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) received intense backlash late on Thursday and into the early morning hours on Friday after she rushed to politicize terrorist attacks on two mosques in New Zealand that left 49 people dead and 20 injured.

  4. DAILY MAIL – High-profile criminal lawyer demands police charge Senator Anning for hitting a protester who egged him – and offers to represent the boy for free

A high profile criminal lawyer is calling for Senator Fraser Anning to face charges
A heated confrontation with Senator Anning and teen was caught on camera
The teenager cracked an egg on Anning’s head, he then appeared to slap teen

A high profile lawyer has called for Senator Fraser Anning to be charged after he took a swipe at a protester who egged him during a press conference.

A heated confrontation between Mr Anning and a 17-year-old was caught on camera on Saturday after the boy broke an egg on the Senator’s head.

In the footage from the event in Moorabbin, Melbourne, the independent Queensland senator appears to slap the boy across the face multiple times.

Adam Houda, a lawyer who has defended men charged with terrorist-related offences in the past, is now demanding Mr Anning face charges for his actions.

On twitter, the high profile lawyer said it was a clear case of assault on a child.

‘I’ve just seen the footage of the Fraser Anning egging. Anning reacts by assaulting the young man. The police are now obligated to charge Anning,’ he tweeted.

‘I’ve been a lawyer for over two decades and in my opinion there is no argument that Anning was acting in self-defence.’

Video footage from the event showed the young man approach Mr Anning from behind, as he spoke in front of a camera.

The young man, who filmed the altercation, then slammed an egg onto the back of the senator’s head. Anning then spun and took a swipe at the youngster.

A short scuffle ensued before the young man was tackled to the ground by other members of the public.

Mr Houda, who is the former lawyer of Sydney Lindt Cafe siege gunman Man Haron Monis, has offered to represent the teenager free of charge.

‘The video evidence is clear. Anning has NO defence. I’ll be monitoring the situation carefully.

‘I’ve never chased a client, but I’ve put it out there that I’m happy to help him (pro bono) It’s now up to him and his parents.’

The teen, from the affluent Melbourne suburb of Hampton, was arrested at the scene and removed from the premises. His details were taken before he was released.

Victoria Police released a statement saying they are continuing to investigate the incident ‘in its entirety’ including the actions of Mr Anning and others.

Disturbing footage has also emerged showing Mr Anning’s supporters holding the boy to the ground in a choke hold as others taunted the teen.

‘You are nothing but a weak f****** human being’ a man could be heard saying.

Another man could be heard saying to remove his hand from the boy’s neck.

The egging came a day after Mr Anning released a statement where he blamed Muslim immigration for the terror attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand on Friday, where 50 people were killed.

‘The real cause of the bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place,’ his statement said.

He faced wide-spread backlash following the release of his statement.

A Change.org petition calling for Mr Anning to be removed from parliament has been signed over 250,000 times.

‘Senator Fraser Anning has no place in the government of our democratic and multicultural country,’ the petition says.

‘We request that he be expelled from his position as Senator, and investigated by law enforcement agencies for supporting right wing terrorism.’

The petition speaks about Mr Annging’s statements about the Christchurch attack.

‘We call on the Australian government to expel this man who blames victims for their own violent deaths, and uses references to genocide to further his hateful agenda,’ the petition said.

‘There is no place in Australian government for Neo-Nazis. There is no place for bigotry. There is no place for hate speech.’

Politicians have roundly condemned Mr Anning for his comments.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison also hit out at the independent senator’s comments in a tweet on Friday.

‘The remarks by Senator Fraser Anning blaming the murderous attacks by a violent, right-wing, extremist terrorist in New Zealand on immigration are disgusting. These views have no place in Australia, let alone in the Australian Parliament.’

Labor frontbencher Tony Burke told the ABC ‘the normalisation of bigotry is something that is not only confined to him’.

‘We need to call it out, we need to make sure that no way any member of parliament fosters it. He wants the conflict and he wants the notoriety,’ he said on Saturday.

  5. A NEW LOW: Huffington Post Compares Christchurch Socialist, Pro-Chicom Terrorist To Republicans In Congress! Democrats Cheer

Huffington post writer, Matt Fuller, is attempting to connect the Christchurch terror attack to Republicans in the US Congress.

The American left knows no bottom.

There are two members of Congress who share a lot of rhetoric with the New Zealand shooter.

When I read the New Zealand shooter’s manifesto, what struck me most were the similarities between his writings and some of the things I hear from members of Congress on immigration.

His views and rhetoric have an eerie resemblance to some of the things two particular Republicans ? Steve King (R-Iowa) and Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) ? say about immigration, and that’s worth discussing.

Gohmert and King have denounced the shooting, and there’s no reason to doubt they genuinely are saddened by this massacre.

Still, it’s fair to evaluate how dehumanizing rhetoric has real impact in the ways people think about immigrants, particularly in light of this horrendous attack.

Following the controversy over her remarks about Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), the Fox News Channel has abruptly canceled Saturday night’s scheduled airing of the Justice with Judge Jeanine Pirro show that regularly airs at 9 p.m. on Saturday, according to a report by Variety.

The sudden cancellation came a day after a terror attack on two New Zealand mosques by a white eco-nationalist killed 50 Muslims and wounded dozens more.

On Sunday morning President Trump weighed in on the controversy and urge FOX News to bring back Judge Jeanine.

  7. The US Does Not Lose Much by Withdrawing from Afghanistan

ESA Center Perspectives Paper No. 1,114, March 17, 2019

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: In December 2018, the Trump administration announced that its military will start withdrawing roughly 7,000 troops from Afghanistan in the coming months. Though the decision seems an abrupt shift in the US’s 17-year-old war in Afghanistan, it fits into the American grand strategy of keeping Eurasia divided.

The US decision to withdraw about 7,000 troops from Afghanistan in the coming months seems to go against recent developments inside that country. Afghanistan just saw a spike in violence (terrorist attacks, etc.), largely caused by elections. It raises eyebrows on the foreign policy level, too, as Russia, Iran, and Pakistan – all of which have difficult relations with the US – will try to use the American withdrawal to their own respective advantage.

Washington’s decision is being viewed by many (quite correctly) with consternation, as the withdrawal of these troops can be regarded as a continuation of a major trend under the Trump administration: withdrawal from major treaties and global responsibilities the US has had for decades, since the end of the Cold War. The decision follows a similar one on Syria, where the US plans to reduce its military presence to a minimum. Together, these moves conjure the idea of a global retreat by the US.

  8. Teen stabbed about 100 times and set on fire in MS-13 murder, police say

STAFFORD, Va. — Five MS-13 gang members have been arrested in connection to the death of a 16-year-old whose mutilated body was found in Stafford County, Virginia, according to law enforcement.

The body of 16-year-old Jacson Chicas was discovered near a wooded area in the area of River Road around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators now believe the gang turned on Chicas, a fellow member, stabbing him about 100 times and setting his body on fire, Prince George’s County Maj. Brian Reilly said at a press conference Friday.

On Thursday, investigators determined that Chicas was killed inside of a home in Prince George’s County, Maryland, during a gang meeting at the home of the clique’s leader on March 8.

At that meeting, for reasons which are under investigation, there was a confrontation, and the 16-year-old was attacked and killed.

  11. Montreal – Vigil held at Square Victoria to remember victims of New Zealand terrorist attack

    + video

Hundreds of Montrealers came out to a vigil on Sunday in memory of the 50 victims of the terrorist attack in New Zealand this week.

They shared a message of peace and unity.

“We have to stand together,” said Ehab Lotayef, a human rights activist in Montreal.

“We have to speak very loudly against hate or anybody that speaks in a way that would encourage hate and haters to come out and create havoc on peoples’ lives.”

    Rabbi Boris Dolin agreed.

“I hope that we can truly put aside our differences and find ways to work together not only in moments like this, but to work together to make a more peaceful world, get to know each other beyond our differences, and fix some of the broken-ness we experience every day,” he said.

“It’s sad that we’re coming together to mourn, but I hope that we can move forward together with strength.”

Talk also was about solutions and preventing such atrocities from taking place.

“The solution is education and responsibility,” said Imam Hassan Guillet of the Council of Imams of Quebec.

There was worry about the dangers of extremist political views.

“We tend to be blind to the fact that here, we have an extreme right, we have white supremacists, and it takes only one to act as we saw here,” said Abienne Presentey of Independent Jewish Voices, referring to the Quebec City mosque shooting.

“50 people are dead because one person acted.”

Mayor Valerie Plante was also on hand at Square Victoria.

“This is unacceptable and not the world we want,” she said.

  12. Canada: Clashes erupt at anti-police brutality protest in Montreal

Clashes erupted in Montreal on Friday, as hundreds of protesters took to the streets for the annual protest against police brutality.

Police intervened shortly after protesters began shooting fireworks at the police. Officers also tried to block off various protest routes in the attempt to contain the demonstration.

Several protesters were arrested as a consequence, according to police authorities.

    • Macron under fire as the ‘yellow vests’ ransack Champs-Elysees

Laurent Wauquiez renewed his call for a state of emergency. ‘Another Saturday of violence which was left to degenerate in the heart of our capital’

Emmanuel Macron, the French president, came under attack yesterday (Sunday) from for failing to prevent “yellow vest” protesters from wrecking Paris’s grandest avenue, the Champs-Elysees.

The centrist president cut short a skiing break in the Pyrenees and flew back to Paris to hold a security meeting but critics said he should never have left the capital as the resurgence of violence was predictable.

Demonstrators smashed nearly every shopfront on the Champs-Elysees, set fire to a bank and burned cars during the 18th consecutive Saturday of protests against Mr Macron’s business-friendly economic reforms.

Laurent Wauquiez, leader of the main Right-wing opposition party, The Republicans, renewed his call for a state of emergency. “Another Saturday of violence which was left to degenerate in the heart of our capital,” Mr Wauquiez tweeted. “It is time to act.”

Anne Hidalgo, the Socialist mayor of Paris, said: “We are in the midst of a major social and political crisis. We should have been capable of controlling a situation like the one we have just experienced. I’m waiting for explanations from the government.”

Mr Macron acknowledged that the authorities should have been able to prevent the destruction. “I want us to analyse things very clearly and take strong decisions very soon so that this does not happen again,” he said.

Parliament last week passed controversial legislation toughening penalties for violent demonstrators, banning them from covering their faces and allowing police to bar known troublemakers from taking part.

However, it has yet to be enforced. Some of Mr Macron’s own MPs object to the new law on the grounds that it infringes civil rights. The president has responded by referring it to the Constitutional Council for a ruling on whether it complies with the French constitution.

Eric Ciotti, a Republican MP, accused the president of seeking to undermine his own legislation. “This is doubletalk. He is endangering our country.”

Macron calls for ‘strong decisions’ after violent Yellow Jacket protests

French president cut short ski trip to return to Paris.

      https://www.zerohedge.com/s3/files/inline-images/macron%20mountains.jpg

French President Emmanuel Macron said he intends to take “strong decisions” to end the Yellow Jackets protests following violent demonstrations in the French capital Saturday.

The protests marked the eighteenth demonstration by the Yellow Jackets’ movement in Paris, timed to coincide with the end of a two-month public debate exercise launched by Macron. Protesters vandalized shops and restaurants on the Champs-Elysées as police sought to break up the protests with water canons.

“I want strong decisions to be made as soon as possible so that this does not happen again,” Macron tweeted late Saturday. “A lot has been done since November,” but the renewed protests “shows that on these subjects we are not there,” he said.

Interrupting a ski trip with his wife in the South of France to return to Paris, the French president condemned the violent clashes, lootings and fires.

“What happened today on the Champs-Élysées is no longer called a demonstration. These are people who want to destroy the Republic, at the risk of killing. Everyone who was there was complicit in this,” he said in another tweet.

French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said Saturday that a number of the protestors were “ultra violent people who are there just to smash things up, to fight.”

The protests began in response to a planned rise in fuel prices but has spiraled into a wider offense against Macron’s government.

The ‘Great Debate’ exercise, which ended Friday, saw the president travel around the country to speak to communities about their concerns.

  13. Erdogan says New Zealand mosque attacker targeted Turkey (memo, Mar 17, 2019)
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190317-erdogan-says-new-zealand-mosque-attacker-targeted-turkey/

“Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan showed video footage at an election rally on Saturday from an attack on two New Zealand mosques which killed 49 people and said the suspected gunman had made threats against Turkish Muslims, according to a Reuters report.

The gunman shot dead 49 people and wounded more than 40 in Christchurch on Friday, broadcasting footage of the attack on one of the mosques on Facebook. He also posted a “manifesto” online, which was removed shortly after the attack.

Australian Brenton Harrison Tarrant, 28, a suspected white supremacist, was charged with murder on Saturday following the mass shootings.

Erdogan said the suspect had twice visited Turkey and had warned that Turks have no place in Europe. He said Turkish authorities were investigating his visits and his contacts.

Erdogan showed a video including extracts purportedly from the suspect’s online manifesto and semi-blurred footage of the shooting to the crowd via a large screen.

“We do not want to see a cross and crescent conflict again,” Erdogan told the rally, referring to conflict between Christians and Muslims. He said the suspected gunman had said he wanted Turkish Muslims removed from Turkey’s European territory.

Majority Muslim Turkey straddles Europe and Asia, its Asian section known as Anatolia. Turkey’s largest city, Istanbul, is split between an Asian part to the east of the Bosphorus, and a European half to the west of the strait.

    The Turkish President added:

The wicked person who martyred 49 brothers and sisters is saying that we can stay on the Anatolian side, we cannot pass to the European side. Who do you think you are?

A senior Turkish security source said Tarrant had entered Turkey twice in 2016 – for a week in March and for more than a month in September. Turkish authorities had begun investigating everything from hotel records to camera footage to try to ascertain the reason for his visits, the source said.

On Friday, Erdogan said the suspected gunman had “targeted our country, our nation and myself” and said countries around the world, particularly in the West, needed to guard against the rise of Islamophobia.

Leaders around the world expressed sorrow and disgust at the attacks, with some deploring the demonisation of Muslims. Political and Islamic leaders across Asia and the Middle East voiced concern over the targeting of Muslims.”

“The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has called on non-Muslim countries to ban Islamophobia, following the killing of dozens of people on a deadly attack on two mosques in New Zealand.

“IUMS calls on non-Muslim countries to ban the spread of hatred against Islam and Muslims,” IUMS President Ahmed al-Raisouni said in a statement at the conclusion of a 2-day session held in Istanbul on Friday.

At least 49 Muslims were killed when a gunman opened fire on worshippers during the weekly Friday prayers at the Al Noor and Linwood mosques in Christchurch in New Zealand.

The gunman shot dead 49 people and wounded more than 40 in Christchurch on Friday, broadcasting footage of the attack on one of the mosques on Facebook. He also posted a “manifesto” online, which was removed shortly after the attack.

Al-Raisouni called on New Zealander authorities to fulfill their responsibility toward bringing the perpetrators of the criminal attack to justice.

He also called Muslims in New Zealand not to prejudice against the local community and let the issue be settled by law.”

    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/sweden-far-right-politician-proposes-building-mosque/1420602

“A far-right Swedish politician who represents an anti-immigration party has proposed to build a mosque and a cultural center to attract more immigrants to the country, local media reported.

Mark Collins from far-right Sweden Democrats party, said he believes they need immigrants in order to stop the decline of the town’s population, according to The Local Sweden.

Collins proposed to build the mosque and cultural center in Kramfors town of northern Sweden’s Vasternorrland county.

The news network quoted Collins as saying: “My idea is that if you have a mosque and a cultural center, then you empower the Muslims to be responsible for our town and the area up here.”

“The one group in Sweden that is mobile is the immigrant community, and they’re very business minded, and that’s what we need,” he added.

The town loses 100 people a year, Collins said, while Vasternorrland as a whole loses around 500 citizens a year.”

  16. EP attacks Turkey with PKK, FETO arguments: Erdogan (aa, Mar 17, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/ep-attacks-turkey-with-pkk-feto-arguments-erdogan/1421109

“President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday slammed the EU parliament (EP), saying they attack Turkey with PKK and FETO terror groups’ arguments.

“European Parliament is attacking Turkey with the arguments of the separatist terror organization [PKK] and FETO.

“Once they have the chance, believe me, they won’t hesitate to hand this country to terror groups,” Erdogan said during a campaign rally ahead of looming local elections.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey as well as the U.S. and the EU. In its terror campaign against Turkey for more than three decades, over 40,000 people have been killed, including women and children.

The Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Erdogan’s remarks came after the EP’s report which was passed this week urging the suspension of Turkey’s EU accession process.

He said that the parliament’s decision has no value and Turkey is ready if the EU will take such a decision.

“We are waiting for this decision of yours. Take it, we are ready, but they can’t do it,” the president said.

A total of 370 members of the EP voted in favor of the decision to suspend Turkey’s EU negotiations while 109 voted against and 143 abstained from voting.

The non-binding advisory report drew reactions from Turkey.

Turkey applied for EU membership in 1987 and accession talks began in 2005.

But negotiations stalled in 2007 due to the objections of the Greek Cypriot administration on the divided island of Cyprus as well as opposition from Germany and France.

    First joint rally with MHP

Separately, the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) held the first joint rally on Sunday in the western province of Izmir — just two weeks before the local elections slated for March 31.

The AK Party and MHP combined their forces for the elections as their unity was named People’s Alliance.

Their opponents are the Nation Alliance, which is a bloc including the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) and Good (IYI) Party.”

  17. Norwegian Islamic State fighter killed in Syria, mother says (thelocal, Mar 17, 2019)
    https://www.thelocal.no/20190317/norwegian-islamic-state-fighter-killed-in-syria-mother

“The Norwegian Islamic State solider Michael Skråmo has been killed in Syria, his mother has told Sweden’s state broadcaster SVT.

Skråmo, a Norwegian citizen born and brought up in the Swedish city of Gothenburg, was one of the most prolific propagandists of the Islamic State terror group.

Going by the name Abo Ibrahim Al Swedi, he posted regular videos from Syria in which he sought to encourage others to come to fight, or else to carry out terror attacks in Sweden.

“It’s impossible to describe the sorrow we are feeling,” his mother wrote in an email sent to the station, saying only that her son had “died of his wounds”.

SVT at the start of March received information that Skråmo had been captured in eastern Syria, but its reporters have since begun to question the reliability of this information.

Skråmo had moved to Raqqah, then the capital of the Islamic State, in September 2014 with his wife and two children.

According to Sweden’s Expressen newspaper, he converted to Islam in 2005, after which he travelled widely in the Islamic world, learning Arabic and studying the religion. “

  18. Sweden ‘underplays threat of far-right terror’: researcher (thelocal, Mar 17, 2019)
    https://www.thelocal.se/20190317/are-far-right-extremists-the-biggest-terror-threat-in-sweden

“The media in Sweden tends to concentrate overwhelmingly on the risk of Islamist jihadi attacks, making them overshadow terror attacks from right-wing extremists, one of Sweden’s leading terror researchers has said.

“The problem is that violence by far-right extremists never gets the same amount of coverage in the mainstream media,”

Hans Bruun, from the Defence Defence University, told Swedish broadcaster SR.

“But instead it gets lost in the din of the debate on Islamic State, people going to fight for Islamic State and everything else that gets discussed.”

Brenton Tarrant, the 28-year-old responsible for Friday’s terrible mosque attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, claims to have drawn inspiration from the Norwegian extremist Anders Behring Breivik (who now goes by the name of Fjotolf Hansen).

According to Sweden’s Säpo security police, there are currently around 3,000 violent extremists in the country, of which around 2,000 are Islamic extremists, with the rest coming from either White Power or neo-Nazi groups, or from the extreme left.

But in Sweden, the death toll from far-right terrorists is significantly greater than that from Islamist attackers, with the five dead and 14 injured in 2017’s Stockholm terror attack the only people to suffer from Islamic terrorism on Swedish soil.

“What we see not only in Sweden but also at the European level is that the number of victims from far-right attacks has been growing recently,” journalist Anna-Lena Lodenius told SR.

Here are some of Sweden’s most serious far-right attacks:
1992. The Laser Man. From 1991 to January 1992, John Ausonius, known in Sweden as “Lasarmannen”, shot 11 people most of whom were immigrants, to start with using a rifle with laser sights.

1995. John Hron murder. In August 1995, four young neo-Nazi skinheads tortured and then murdered the 14-year-old anti-racist campaigner John Hron in Kungälv.

1995. Gerard Gbeyo murder. In September 1995, a 16-year-old skinhead stabbed to death a young refugee from Côte d’Ivoire in Klippan.

2009-2010. Malmö shootings. The far-right extremist Peter Mangs shot and killed two people of immigrant background and injured 10, in a two year shooting spree targeting dark-skinned residents of Malmö.

2015. Trollhättan School Attack: In 2015, the 21-year-old Anton Lundin-Pettersson killed three people when he attacked the Kronan school in Trollhättan with a samurai sword.
This list could be considerably longer if it was expanded to include all murders and assaults carried out by members of far-right extremist groups.

And here are are the two Islamist attacks:

2010 Stockholm bombings. Taimour Abdulwahab al-Abdaly, an Iraqi-born Swedish citizen, killed himself when a pipe bomb he was carrying exploded in Stockholm. A car bomb he had detonated earlier in the day slightly injured two people.

2017 Stockholm truck attack. Rakhmat Akilov killed five people and injured 14 when he drove a truck he had stolen down the Drottninggatan shopping street in central Stockholm.”

    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1101475/manchester-stabbing-leigh-greater-manchester-police-UK-crime-knife-attack-dead-murder

“DETECTIVES in Manchester have launched a murder enquiry after a woman was stabbed to death on Sunday evening.

A huge police presence remains on Manchester Road, Leigh, where the victim, in her 40s, was killed shortly before 8pm. According to Manchester Evening News, the woman was found dead at the scene with stab wounds. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that no arrests had been made and enquiries remain ongoing…”

  20. Sweden explosion: Malmö Nightclub closed after HUGE blast heard in city (express, Mar 18, 2019)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1101494/Sweden-explosion-nightclub-bomb-Malmo-stortorget-etage-club-bang-mikael-nilsson

“BOMB squads have been called to a popular nightclub in Malmö after a second explosion in the city on Sunday.

The Etage club, on Stortorget, central Malmö, has been cordoned off amid reports that several heard a heavy bang at around 12am (GMT). According to SVT’s Mikael Nilsson the whole square has been blocked following the explosions. The latest report of explosions comes hours after more bangs were heard in the city.

Mr Nilsson said: “Police have blocked the entire Stortorget.

“Bomb technician is on the way to the site to ensure that there is nothing dangerous left there that can explode.”

SVT reports the cause of the explosion is unclear but the technician arrived roughly an hour later.

    The site was then investigated.

At approximately 7pm (GMT), police were called to another explosion – this time in Hyllie.

Reports suggest the explosion was at the entrance of a multi-family house, which was destroyed.

Police considered that incident to be an act of vandalism caused by a form of firework.

A witness told daily newspaper Sydsvenskan: “I heard a big bang outside the window.

“The house shook and when I looked out it was a lot of smoke.

“A gate is full of broken glass.

    “It is very unpleasant.”

The newspaper added that there had been no information about whether anyone was injured during the incident.

    More to follow…”

Four people shot, apparently one dead. A woman was shot in the chest in the street, she’s in hospital now.
Gunman got away in a red car.
Whole area (muslim ghetto) under lockdown. Anti-terror unit surrounded an appartment.

There’s a news site that has a photo of a body under a white sheet, I’m pretty sure that’s a fatality, but police won’t confirm. Looks like that site can’t handle the traffic, so I link directly:

      • “Terrorist Attack Utrecht, The Netherlands – Utrecht Shooting – Live Video 18-03-2019”
        World of Signs – March 18, 2019

    • Breaking news: Multiple people shot inside a tram in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Fingering every last Dutch dyke won’t hold back these kaaskops from routinely electing politicians that flood the Lowlands with lowlifes. Geert’s the only Nederlander whose shooting I’m particularly concerned about.

NOTE: — Please pardon the roughness of my recent political science. This endless round robin of extremist violence has conspired to fuse my once-trusty sympathy meter. Worst of all, I’m unsure as to whether it’s worth the time and trouble of replacing this now-rare analytical tool. Long disuse has rendered it nearly obsolete. My vintage Simpson VOM indicates that the violence caused and inspired by constant Islamic atrocities has broken an internal limit switch which may prove impossible to mend. —

    • Police vigilant in east part of the country, present at strategic locations (train stations etc). Patrol cars drive around mosque areas, cops are wearing vests. In Dutch:
      https://www.destentor.nl/apeldoorn/politie-houdt-extra-toezicht-in-oost-nederland-vanwege-schietpartij-utrecht~ae683349/

The getaway car, a stolen red Renault Clio, has been found in the Tichelaarslaan, 5 km from the crime scene. Neighbor reported it because it was abandoned with engine running. There was a note attached to it, she won’t reveal to press what the message was.

Checks at the German border, both trains and highway (A12). German police active on their side of the border. In Dutch:
      https://www.parool.nl/binnenland/politie-zoekt-37-jarige-gokman-tanis~a4624652/?lastUpdate=1552915140000

This suggests that the gunman lives in Germany.

    • Mr Gökman Tanis has a long rapsheet. He was convicted in 2013 for firing a gun, on the same square as today’s attack. Convicted for rape in 2017. And lots of minor stuff: DUI, assaulting police officer etc etc.
So it seems he has lived in Utrecht for years, not in Germany. Maybe he has family there?

Statistics atm: 4 dead, 9 injured.

The getaway vehicle was carjacked, at gunpoint.

Meanwhile in the Hague, square next to parliament closed down because of a suspicious suitcase.

    • A tradeschool (ROC Midden-Nederland) has been raided, brother of suspect arrested.
Anti-terror unit with tactical shields have raided the appartment close to the crime scene. A bomb disposal unit used a robot (tracked vehicle) in the same location. A drone was used as well, police helicopter is flying over city. Manhunt is ongoing, and there may be multiple shooters, but curfew has been lifted. Some highways still closed.

Trade school (ROC Nieuwegein) closed down because of `suspicious package’.
The suitcase close to parliament (actually closer to Ministry of Defense) was false alarm.

According to an eye witness, the shooter yelled Allahu Akhbar.

Apparently the attacker previously tried to kill his sister-in-law, some are speculating this is honor violence, not terrorism. However, the BBC claims he fought for IS in Chechnya.

It’s 2 days before dutch provincial elections, all but one political party suspended their campaigns for today.

I saw interviews with muslims who know him. One called him an alcoholic and a crackhead, another said he changed later, that he talked about islam all the time and grew a beard.

Newsblog GeenStijl reports that, according to a source in the Utrecht muslim community, he’s from a very religious family.
He’s also one of the men in a 2011 video they aired, according to an old comment. That video is on this page (top version is the offending fragment, full video at bottom):
      https://www.geenstijl.nl/5146785/030-verdachte-gokmen-tanis-is-haatdemocraat/

He calls the interviewer (Chantal Hanse, Playmate of the Year 2009) a “dirty slut” and a “democrat”, “not sharia”, because of the way she dresses, says her “ass is open”. “you should close your ass”, a real wordsmith.

    • Snipers were spotted on rooftops near the tram, they’ve left.
The last line of the note on the getaway car read “Allah”. Written in large letters, according to eyewitness.

The “shots near mosque” story apparently referred to the original shooting in the tram, everywhere in that area is “close to a mosque”. Comments about “right wing gunman” and links with New-Zealand all seem hoaxes, as are reports of shootings at other places.

Reasoning behind the 5/5 terror level was that it would make the job of first responders easier. Originally it would be maintained until 6PM, has now been extended to 10PM.
The gunman is still on the run.

    • FWIW I came across an (anonymous) commenter on a dutch blog who claims to know one of the wounded personally.
A 10 year old girl, a bullet barely missed her heart. The commenter received an app shortly past 6PM saying the girl made it through surgery, and she’s stable now.

She also says the gunman targeted blonde women specifically. Of course this is not confirmed (yet), but it fits the profile. I’ve seen that kind of targeted hostility personally, on multiple occasions. Him cussing out the playmate (if it is him) fits that profile as well.

One last detail, she claims his weapon jammed several times. That has the ring of truth to it, since most (illegal) firearms in western europe are re-activated military surplus from Slovakia, former Yugoslavia etc. Also converted flare guns, gas guns etc. Neither category is reliable.

Eyewitnesses described a “large gun”, one claimed it was semi-automatic. Wouldn’t put too much faith into that, since dutch people generally don’t know about such things. But I wondered if it was an SMG, a Škorpion maybe. Civilian version is semi-auto, and its short magazine holds 10 rounds. Would be consistent with 4 dead, 5 wounded.

He showed up at her door on 11 juli 2017 at 1AM, left at 7. He hit and bit her as well, “coke made him a devil”. he threatened to burn her house down.

She says he was married. She describes him as a psychopath, a ticking timebomb. he also sold drugs btw.
She warned the police about him several times, told them he violated parole. They picked him up but released him March 1.

Another photo. The guy on the left is the gunman, guy on the right his brother.

  21. Saudi Crown Prince’s Brutal Drive to Crush Dissenters Began Before Khashoggi
    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/17/world/middleeast/khashoggi-crown-prince-saudi.html

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia authorized a secret campaign to silence dissenters — which included the surveillance, kidnapping, detention and torture of Saudi citizens — over a year before the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, according to American officials who have read classified intelligence reports about the campaign.

At least some of the clandestine missions were carried out by members of the same team that killed and dismembered Mr. Khashoggi in Istanbul in October, suggesting that his killing was a particularly egregious part of a wider campaign to silence Saudi dissidents, according to the officials and associates of some of the Saudi victims.

Members of the team that killed Mr. Khashoggi, which American officials called the Saudi Rapid Intervention Group, were involved in at least a dozen operations starting in 2017, the officials said.

Some of the operations involved forcibly repatriating Saudis from other Arab countries and detaining and abusing prisoners in palaces belonging to the crown prince and his father, King Salman, the officials and associates said.

One of the Saudis detained by the group, a university lecturer in linguistics who wrote a blog about women in Saudi Arabia, tried to kill herself last year after being subjected to psychological torture, according to American intelligence reports and others briefed on her situation.
