Contributor’s Links post for March 15, 2019

Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We muse use it while we can.

  2. Spain Gathers Data on Unaccompanied Moroccan Minors for Repatriation (moroccoworldnews, Mar 15, 2019)
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2019/03/268159/spain-unaccompanied-moroccan-minors/

“Weeks after Spain’s King Felipe VI visited Morocco and called on King Mohammed VI to accelerate the fight against irregular immigration, the two countries are preparing to deport thousands of unaccompanied Moroccan minors from Spain.

Morocco’s director of immigration and border surveillance, Khalid Zerouali, met the Moroccan ambassador in Madrid, Karima Benyaich, and Spanish officials on February 26 to discuss ways to deport unaccompanied Moroccan minors from Spain. Many minors are currently living in juvenile detention centers or are homeless.

Spain emphasized that it is specifically working to repatriate the minors who “did not adapt to life in Spain.”

The meeting in Madrid was a first step to gather information about unaccompanied minors in the city and other regions with a heavier population of Moroccan minor migrants, especially Catalonia and Andalusia.

Recently, Spain proposed a bill to repatriate Moroccan minors.

Unaccompanied Moroccan minors represent 70 percent of the more than 7,000 minors in the care of Spain’s regional governments, according to data from the Spanish government.

In 2018, almost all of the 3,344 unaccompanied minors from the MENA region who entered the Spanish enclave of Ceuta bordering northern Morocco were Moroccan.

Upon arriving in Rabat on February 13, King Felipe VI of Spain held talks with King Mohammed VI and signed 11 bilateral agreements covering various issues related to migration, collaboration on security, energy, culture, trade, and aeronautics, among others.

This month, the Moroccan government council approved two draft laws related to the signed agreements: Draft Law 15.19 on cooperation against crime in all its forms and Draft Law 16.19 on Spain’s irrevocable offer of Tangier’s Teatro Cervantes (Grand Theater Cervantes) to Morocco.”

“The Royal Moroccan Navy has rescued 21 migrants, including 13 women, who were trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Spain. However, 45 migrants, all sub-Saharan Africans, died at sea.

The Caminando Fronteras (Walking Borders) collective, which alerts naval authorities about migrant boats in distress at sea between Morocco and Spain told the Associated Press on Thursday that there were pregnant women among the migrants who drowned.

“There was also one young girl, between 12 and 14 years old, who didn’t survive,” said Helena Maleno, the Tangier-based NGO’s spokesperson.

The undocumented migrants’ boat sunk two hours after they called Walking Borders. The migrants were screaming that they were drowning, Maleno said.

Thousands of migrants throw themselves at the mercy of the sea as they attempt to cross to Europe, and many die as a result…”

“The Turkish foreign ministry on Thursday slammed a U.S. human rights report that “contains false charges, inaccurate information and biased comments” on Turkey.

A statement from the ministry said Turkish efforts to combat terrorism were in line with international law and human rights, however, the report reflected Turkey as a violator.

The foreign ministry accused the controversial report by the U.S. State Department of describing terrorists and those who backed July 15th, 2016 failed coup attempt in Turkey as “political prisoners.”

  6. Pakistan: Former ISI official ‘commits suicide’ (aa, Mar 15, 2019)
    https://www.aa.com.tr/en/asia-pacific/pakistan-former-isi-official-commits-suicide-/1419497

“A former senior official of Pakistan’s top spy agency reportedly committed suicide on Friday, local media reported.

The body of retired Brig. Asad Muneer — a former regional head of the country’s premier spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) — was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his apartment in a high-end locality of capital Islamabad, local broadcaster Geo News reported quoting police sources.

Munir who headed ISI’s wing for northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP) province, and restive tribal belt, which border neighboring Afghanistan, from 2003 to 2006, had been involved in anti-Taliban operations.

Before joining the ISI, he had served at the Military Intelligence for a couple of years.

Quoting family sources, Geo News reported that Munir was deeply upset after the country’s anti-corruption watchdog — National Accountability Bureau (NAB) — announced to file a corruption case against him only a day ago.

Munir also served as a member of the Capital Development Authority — a body that runs the development affairs of Islamabad — after retirement.

Unconfirmed reports said that the former spy left a note requesting the Chief Justice Supreme Court to personally look into the matter after his death, and work to dispense “justice”.

“I’m committing suicide to avoid humiliation, being handcuffed and paraded in front of media […] I’m giving my life in the hope that you’ll bring positive changes in system where incompetent people r playing with life & honor of citizens in name of accountability.”, local English Daily Pakistan Today quoted Munir as saying in the final note.

NAB was established by the country’s former military ruler Gen Pervez Musharraf after he toppled the elected government of jailed ex-premier Nawaz Sharif in Oct 1999 through a bloodless coup.

The watchdog is often accused of being used for “political engineering”, and targeting the opposition.”

“Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said on Friday that “the only extremism that merits attention is the Islamic kind”, in response to a question about whether the domestic terrorist attack in New Zealand that took place Friday is something to be concerned about in Italy as well.

The department of public safety said Friday there was a risk of copycat incidents or reprisals after the Christchurch attack that killed at least 49 people.

The shooter put the names of a number of extremists on his gunds including Italian neo-fascist Luca Traini who shot six North African migrants.”

  8. Swiss train staff ‘should have power to demand people uncover their face’ (thelocal, Mar 15, 2019)
    https://www.thelocal.ch/20190315/swiss-train-staff-should-have-power-to-demand-people-uncover-their-face

“The Swiss government hopes to introduce a new law that would make it illegal for people to refuse to uncover their face when asked to do so by government officials, transport staff or privately-contracted ticket inspectors.

Under the plans, anyone who repeatedly refused to show their face to government officials working in sectors including migration, customs or social security, or to rail and aviation transport workers could be hit with a fine.

Burqas and niqabs are not specifically mentioned in the draft law, which refers to face coverings. However, Muslim women wearing these garments would also liable to a financial penalty if they did not show their face when asked to do so.

The government’s proposal still needs to be discussed by the Swiss parliament…”

  9. ‘A xenophobic and radical nationalist current is on the rise in Sweden’ (thelocal, Mar 15, 2019)
    https://www.thelocal.se/20190315/a-xenophobic-and-radical-nationalist-current-is-on-the-rise-in-sweden-sapo

“Sweden’s security service Säpo warns in a new report of rising radical nationalism and foreign states trying to spy on Sweden.

Säpo released its annual report outlining current security threats to Sweden on Thursday.

It said violent Islamism still posed the biggest threat, but added that the threat had not grown since last year and that it still believed few of its followers actually have any intentions to carry out attacks in Sweden.

It also named the white power movement and the far-left autonomous movement as posing “a more long-term threat [involving] the systematic use of violence, threats and intimidation in order to overthrow or change Sweden’s democratic form of government”.

“A xenophobic and radical nationalist current is on the rise in Sweden, where we can see that the white power movement and unorganized xenophobic groups are starting to approach each other,” said Klas Friberg, head of the security service, adding that it was “closely monitoring these developments as part of our remit to prevent crime and protect Swedish democracy”.

In another key part of the report, Säpo warned that “around 15” foreign powers are believed to be carrying out covert intelligence-gathering operations in Sweden, naming Russia as the biggest threat, but also China as a growing future actor in the field.

“In the past few years we have seen that Russia in particular has improved its ability to actively and covertly influence other states. This makes it necessary to enhance the ability of the security service and other agencies tasked with combating crime and other grey area activities,” said Friberg.

Overall, the report noted that “the threats Sweden is facing are wider and different in nature than a few years ago”, partly because of a changing situation in the world. Without mentioning US President Donald Trump by name, Säpo wrote in the report that “the international system is more unstable with the US’s changing ability and intention to maintain the post-war international world order”.”
