  1. (Border closures are a big deal. 9/11 got one. A teachers strike in Mexico got one. It looks like the locals will have to veer out of the way to cross to get back home after Thanksgiving. I don’t know the usual Sunday night traffic, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some people are starting their Monday morning commute early.)

OCT 2017 http://www.startribune.com/the-latest-trump-threatens-to-close-border-over-caravan/497915841/ Mexican immigration officials say activist Irineo Mujica, who has dual U.S. and Mexican citizenship, .. Edgar Corzo, a representative of Mexico’s National Human Rights Commission, who is in Ciudad Hidalgo, says police are accusing Mujica of slashing the tires on an immigration agency vehicle. Mujica’s organization, Pueblo Sin Fronteras, or People without Borders, said he was arrested during a peaceful protest Thursday in Ciudad Hidalgo at the Mexico-Guatemala border. Mujica led a migrant caravan through Mexico to the U.S. border last spring.

  5. http://www.borderlandbeat.com/2018/11/alejandro-solalinde-blames-without.html Fr. Solalinde blames Without Borders NGO for migrant mess, “It was done to provoke Trump” Alejandro Solalinde Guerra is a Mexican Catholic priest and human rights activist. He is the coordinator of the South Pacific Human Mobility Ministry of the Mexican Bishopric and director of “Hermanos en el Camino”, a shelter that provides Central American migrants with humanitarian aid and education. In an interview, Solalinde Guerra criticized that he was deceived along with the Central American and Mexican migrants, the caravan brought polleros and armed persons to the city. “They should not have done it, because they are activists, some are extremists, but above all I do not think they do it out of love for art, that’s what I think,” he said.
In this regard, José María García Lara, coordinator of the Migrant Alliance Tijuana, said he has also noticed the absence of Pueblo Sin Fronteras [to meet the caravan in Tijuana]. Pueblo Sin Fronteras says that they are not the organizers of the caravan, of which other organizations think otherwise, we say Pueblo Sin Fronteras is the organizer,” he said.
    — In a comment (from the author of the post, which is a translation of media reports) — Trickery was used on these people and then the culprits disappeared for others to deal with the aftermath. that is wrong.
either we help now or pay later. Desperate times desperate measures. Narco are there waiting to kidnap, force or recruit for their use. some will make it across by hook, crook or payment plan. there is no leading force to help these people. it is an opportunity to step in and help them return to their country.
[Some comments on other sites in Spanish mention that the migrants are at risk because they are attracting too much attention to the border, which has put a stop to legal and illegal cross-border activities.]
Another comment: Also EPN ordered that the southern gate be opened to provide chaos and a humanitarian crisis for AMLO.

    • Also EPN ordered that the southern gate be opened to provide chaos and a humanitarian crisis for AMLO.

      This sounds right.

Solalinde @ padresolalinde Nov 23 So condemnable is the violence generated by Donald Trump against impoverished and violent migrants in Tijuana, as the group of Peoples Without Borders that was bringing them to this humanitarian crisis. Tan condenable es la violencia generada por Donald Trump contra migrantes empobrecidos y violentados en Tijuana, como la agrupación de Pueblos sin fronteras que los estuvo acarreando a esta crisis humanitaria. 1:03 PM – 23 Nov 2018
