  1. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) Under Scrutiny For Allegedly Violating Federal Election Law
    OAN Newsroom
    UPDATED 6:19 AM PT — Tues. Oct. 9, 2018
A conservative watchdog group is coming after California Representative Maxine Waters for allegedly violating federal election law.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) received a complaint on Monday from the National Legal Policy Center (NLPC).The group is accusing Waters, the representative’s campaign and a pro-charter school group of disregarding fundraising rules in campaign publications known as slate mailers.

According to the allegation, the group Families and Teachers for Antonio Villaraigosa paid $25,000 to be featured in Waters’ mailer while she was running for governor earlier this year.

Although candidates are allowed to pay a fee to be featured in slate mailers, outside groups are not allowed — in turn — resulting in the NLPC claiming that the payment was illegal and needs to be investigated.

    • Why not lawfare this commie witch?
Even though the puppet-masters have almost bottomless resources, a barrage of lawsuits would be a time- and energy- consuming nuisance.
And lawyers can get careless, meet unanticipated circumstances they can’t stage-manage perfectly ALL the time. Look how stupidly they handled slanderous Blase Fraud.

  2. Myanmar: The Dark Side of the Rohingya Muslim Minority

BESA Center Perspectives Paper No. 970, October 9, 2018

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: A UNHRC report has found Myanmar’s authorities responsible for “the gravest crimes under international law” against the Rohingya Muslim minority – crimes that led to a massive exodus to Bangladesh. The report concludes that the army must be investigated for genocide against the Rohingya. This blunt condemnation of the Myanmar authorities does not correspond to solid intelligence data proving terror attacks by Rohingya’s ARSA militants against government assets and the killing of military and police personnel, as well as Buddhist citizens. Several conclusions of the UNHRC Mission ought to be revisited.

In her book Weapons of Mass Migration: Forced Displacement, Coercion and Foreign Policy (2010), Prof. Kelly M. Greenhill, a former US foreign policy consultant, argues that engineered migration is a strategy that has been used by governments and organizations as an instrument of persuasion in the international arena. In other words, manipulation of mass migration can be used as a weapon to exert pressure on governments for political ends.

The latest refugee case to have attracted international attention was the 700,000 Rohingya who recently fled Myanmar and crossed into Bangladesh. A special UN fact-finding mission assigned by the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) delivered its final report on September 17, 2018. “It is hard to fathom the level of brutality of Tatmadaw operations, its total disregard for civilian life,” Marzuki Darusman, the head of the Mission, told the UNHRC, referring to the nation’s military.

    • He’s more generous to UNHRC than is warranted.
There’s plenty of publicly available intelligence about ARSA and the others to challenge the MB propaganda. No doubt much, much more that’s classified.

Well, President Trump just upped the ante on midterms.

He’s now making The Wall a midterm referendum.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy is planning on introducing a bill to fully fund the border wall – promising, if Republicans stay in power, the border wall will be delivered when the new Congress convenes.

    Breitbart

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy will introduce a bill this week that will fully fund President Donald Trump’s planned wall along the U.S. border with Mexico, thereby setting the midterm elections up as a referendum on immigration policy, Breitbart News has learned exclusively.

Outgoing Speaker Paul Ryan hinted at a post-election border wall funding fight on Monday.

“We intend on having a full-fledged discussion on how to complete our mission to secure the border, and yes, we will have a fight about this,” Ryan said of the wall fight that looms at a news conference on Monday.

Now Breitbart News can exclusively report exactly what is expected to happen in the lead-up to, and immediate aftermath of, the midterm election. First, McCarthy, his office confirmed to Breitbart News, will introduce a bill this week that includes the full funding for the border wall–about $23.4 billion more than what has already gone to the wall effort–as well as several other enforcement measures that have already passed the House of Representatives. Congress has already directed $1.6 billion to wall funding in the omnibus spending bill for fiscal year 2018 that just passed Congress, and McCarthy’s new bill–titled the “Build the Wall, Enforce the Law Act”–would take the wall the rest of the way, in addition to providing for a variety of enforcement measures.

  6. Police in Bosnia Fire Warning Shots to Stave Off Migrants (tasnimnews, Oct 9, 2018)
    https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2018/10/09/1848795/police-in-bosnia-fire-warning-shots-to-stave-off-migrants

“TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Bosnian police say an officer has fired warning shots to stave off an attack by migrants in a northwestern town.

A statement on Tuesday said the incident happened in a migrant camp in the town of Bihac, near the border with Croatia.

Police say they were called to the scene on Monday evening over migrant clashes which injured several people, AP reported.

The statement says that while police were conducting interviews several dozen migrants first started throwing rocks and other objects before advancing toward officers.

Police say that one of the officers fired four shots in the air to avert the attack.

Migrants have been arriving in northwestern Bosnia to try to cross to neighboring EU country Croatia before moving on toward Western Europe.”

  7. the guardian – Suspected British Isis fighter could face repatriation to Canada

Exclusive: dual national Jack Letts, 23 – dubbed Jihadi Jack – is thought to have been included in a recent agreement

Suspected Islamic State fighter Jack Letts – nicknamed “Jihadi Jack” by the British media – is likely to be repatriated to Canada rather than the UK, sources have told the Guardian.

The 23-year-old dual national was included in a recent agreement between Ottawa and the Kurdish administration in north-eastern Syria to take home an estimated 11 Canadian citizens being held by its forces, several Kurdish and Canadian sources said.

The Canadian efforts to get Letts out of Syria were a stark contrast to UK government policy on repatriating Isis suspects and their families. Kurdish authorities in Qamishli say it has not responded to requests for cooperation.

The UK has repeatedly said that it cannot help British citizens in places where it has no consular support – although earlier this year it attempted to extradite two surviving British members of the terror cell known as the “Beatles” from Qamishli to the US after stripping them of their UK citizenship.

The British government has not said whether Letts’ British citizenship has been revoked. “As all UK consular services are suspended in Syria … Anyone who does travel to Syria, for whatever reason, is putting themselves in considerable danger,” a Foreign Office spokesperson said.

Unlike other western countries, Canada’s government maintains that citizens captured in Isis territory in Syria and Iraq have the right to return home to face questioning or criminal charges.

Kurdish officials said they had engaged in promising negotiations to hand over an estimated 11 citizens, including women, children and at least one highly ranked fighter.

The unprecedented operation to address the legal limbo facing the 520 foreign Isis fighters and around 2,000 women and children in Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) custody was welcomed by the Kurds, who say they cannot detain foreigners indefinitely.

However, after sending documentation so that the SDF could prepare exit permits for the departing Canadians, Ottawa recently backed out of the agreement “without giving reasons”, according to Abdel Karim Omar, co-chair of the Kurdish foreign affairs committee in Qamishli, the Kurdish administrative centre in Syria.

While Global Affairs Canada did not comment on the deal or why it was put on ice, Canadian extremism expert Amarnath Amarasingam said the repatriation effort may have been derailed by a backlash sparked by the popular New York Times podcast, Caliphate.

A Canadian known as Abu Huzaifa al-Kanadi, who says he carried out two execution-style killings for Isis in Syria before returning home to Toronto in 2016, is heavily featured in the investigative series.

The fact that the 23-year-old was not picked up by counterterrorism services for questioning before the podcast aired caused a scandal for Canada’s Liberal government, which was accused of failing to keep the country safe.

“The government probably fears it would be political suicide to allow any more Isis suspects to come home before the next elections in 2019,” Amarasingam said.

Despite the delay, Canada has made more headway in dealing with the diplomatic headache than most.

Working with Syria’s Kurds is tricky because although the Qamishli-based administration is a major Western ally in the fight against Isis and controls around one quarter of the country, it is not a state actor. Only around 60 foreigners with Isis links have been repatriated so far: to the US, Russia, Indonesia and Sudan.

In Letts’ case, his parents Sally Lane and John Letts – themselves facing criminal charges of funding terrorism for trying to send their son money to escape Raqqa – say that the UK has left him to “rot and die” in Syria.

Letts officially called Canadian diplomats from prison earlier this year and begged for their help to escape alleged ill-treatment by the SDF, echoing earlier requests made by his parents. John Letts was born in Canada, and the family holds dual UK-Canadian citizenship.

Letts, a Muslim convert from Oxford, travelled to Syria in 2014 after dropping out of his A-levels and telling his parents he was going to spend three months in Kuwait learning Arabic.

Nothing concrete is known about his activities in the now dismantled caliphate, although he is believed to have married an Iraqi woman and had a child.

While the Kurdish administration in Syria has charged him with being a member of Isis, Letts has repeatedly denied being a member of the terrorist organisation. Charges have not been brought against him by the UK or Canada.

Even if Letts makes it to Canada – a place he has visited, but never lived – his future remains unclear. He may be placed in a deradicalisation programme, and it is possible he could be charged with terrorism offences, although to date Canada has had difficulty compiling evidence to prosecute suspected Isis fighters. Only two cases have so far been made against Canadian citizens.

If Letts is allowed to retain his British citizenship and charges are brought against him at home, he could also be extradited to the UK.

“It is unacceptable that so many governments are dragging their feet on repatriation,” said Nadim Houry, the director of Human Rights Watch’s counterterrorism programme. “The conditions that hundreds and hundreds of children are living in north-eastern Syria are bleak.

“During the fight against Isis, the international coalition was very keen to take credit for taking [Isis’ de facto capital] Raqqa, but western countries appear to be happy to treat all the post-Isis issues as local problems. There’s still very little momentum to take responsibility.”

  9. UK imam fired from Saudi-funded mosque for criticising Saudi royal family (mee, Oct 9, 2018)
    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/uk-imam-fired-saudi-funded-mosque-criticising-saudi-royal-family-312296296

“A British Imam has accused the Saudi government of firing him from a London mosque it controls after he criticised Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the country’s royal family.

Ajmal Masroor, who regularly comments on British-Muslim issues, worked at the Fitzrovia Mosque, also known as Goodge Street mosque in central London, which is run by the Saudi-funded Muslim World League.

The imam led Friday prayers once a month at the Muslim World League’s offices and ran marriage counselling sessions there before they were cancelled by the mosque.

Masroor’s firing took place just days after he used his personal Facebook page to post a Middle East Eye video and describe the Saudi royal family as being “corrupt, despotic and totally anti-Islamic”.

In another post, the imam had also criticised Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and his campaign to arrest activists and Islamic scholars.

“I am 100 per cent sure that they fired me because of my comments about Mohammed bin Salman where I said he was not a reformer but a conformer,” said Masroor.

“When I asked why they were firing me, I was told that it was an order that had come from the top. Which means the Saudi government wanted me out.”

He said the mosque management had previously reprimanded him for his vocal criticism of the Saudi royal family, stating that he was permitted to criticise Saudi Arabia online, but not inside Goodge Street mosque…”

    https://www.thelocal.se/20181009/man-stabbed-to-death-in-rosengrd-shopping-mall

“A man was knifed to death at a mall in the centre of Malmö’s Rosengård district on Tuesday morning, with a suspect seized shortly afterwards in a nearby apartment.

Police were alerted shortly after 9am after a fight broke out inside Rosengård Centrum, a popular shopping mall with a supermarket, restaurants and a large number of small, locally owned shops.

When they arrived they found that the victim had already been seriously wounded, and he died before an ambulance arrived to take him to hospital.

“He was stabbed to death inside a shop,” Stephan Söderholm, a spokesperson for the Malmö police told the Sydsvenskan newspaper. “The shopping centre has been evacuated and cordoned off.”

Shortly afterwards, a team of officers raided a nearby apartment, where they arrested one man. “The person we were looking for was found in connection with the raid on the apartment we decided to make,” the police wrote in a statement issued an hour and a half later.

Magnus Pettersson, the prosecutor handling the case, said that the man who had been arrested was suspected of murder and that both he and witnesses would be interviewed formally by police today.

“One person is now being held on suspicion of murder,” he told Swedish broadcaster SVT. “Both the suspect and the victim are middle-aged, but how it came to blows, I neither can not want to comment on.”

One local man told Sydsvenskan that he had been working in his office in the mall at the time the fight broke out.

“I didn’t notice anything. I just saw a load of police rush into the shop. It’s terrible.””

  11. Germany seeks to ban Turkish ‘Gray Wolves’ far-right symbols (DW, Oct 9, 2018)
    https://www.dw.com/en/germany-seeks-to-ban-turkish-gray-wolves-far-right-symbols/a-45809792

“German politicians from both sides of the aisle want to ban the salute of the Gray Wolves, a far-right group. The Turkish ultranationalist organization is known for its violent behavior and for promoting fascism.

German politicians said on Tuesday that they would plan legislation to ban the symbols and gestures of the ultranationalist Turkish organization the Gray Wolves. Specifically, the “wolf” hand salute that lawmakers say is reminiscent of the Nazi salute.

“Any form of fascism is inhuman and a threat to our liberal society,” said Christian Democrat (CDU) politician Christoph de Vries to the German daily Bild.

In a rare moment of agreement with Chancellor Angela Merkel’s center-right CDU, the Left party also expressed a desire to ban the group’s most obvious trappings.

“The greeting of the Gray Wolves, one of the largest right-wing extremist and anti-constitutional organizations in Germany, is quite comparable to the Hitler salute and should therefore be banned,” Left party lawmaker Sevim Dagdelen also told Bild.

The government of Austria is also working concretely on a ban of the Gray Wolves’ salute.

The gesture caused controversy last year when Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu used it while visiting Turkey’s consulate in Hamburg.

The Gray Wolves gained notoriety as part of political violence in 1970s Turkey. They have been behind a number of massacres and killings both inside and outside Turkey’s borders, as well as the 1981 assassination attempt against Pope John Paul II.”
