  2. Amnesty International urges Greece to protect female refugees (memo, Oct 7, 2018)
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20181007-amnesty-international-urges-greece-to-protect-female-refugees/

“London-based rights watchdog Amnesty International on Saturday announced “10 overarching demands” of women and children living in Greece’s refugee camps to overcome human rights violations.

In the report published on Saturday, the human rights watchdog reveals that the women and girls who fled persecution and conflict after facing violence and sexual abuse in their countries gathered in hope for a better life in Europe.

The report titled “I Want to Decide About My Future: Uprooted women in Greece speak out” reveals the dire conditions and dangers that women and girls face as well as the perilous journeys they encounter when they reach the Greek islands or the mainland.

The report, which includes interviews with more than 100 women and girls living in camps and apartments in and around Athens and on the Greek islands, also drew attention to the remarkable determination of refugee women in overcoming challenges.

Based on the testimony of women and girls, the report announced 10 concrete demands aimed at overcoming human rights violations experienced by female refugees.

According to the report, the suffering of female refugees does not end when they arrive at the European coasts. More than 60 percent of those who arrive in Greece in 2018 are women and children.

Trapped in overcrowded and squalid EU-sponsored camps on the Greek islands, women and girls are exposed to several dangers, including harassment and sexual violence, the report added.

“The overcrowded camps has become a crisis. More than 15,500 people live in five-island camps designed for about 6,400 people. Thousands of people with special needs, including babies and disabled, are staying in tents around the main camp areas. The lack of a bathroom lock and poor lighting make daily activities such as going to the toilet, taking a shower or just walking at night, more dangerous for women and girls,” according to the report.

“There are around 45,500 migrants living in urban centers or camps in the mainland of Greece. The conditions in the camps in the mainland are still poor. The three camps previously closed due to lack of humanitarian living conditions were reopened on the grounds that there was no room for accommodation without making any significant improvement in the camp conditions,” it added.

“The fact that European governments have been avoiding to provide safe and legal means to refugees fleeing the war also increases the risk of women and girls’ being subject to horrific infringements,” Amnesty International Secretary-General Kumi Naidoo said.

    Suitable Accommodation

Stop Confining People on the Islands

Protect Women at Risk of Violence

    More Female Interpreters and Staff

    Access to Information

    Full Access to Services

    Support Safe Female-Only Spaces

    Livelihood Opportunities

    Welcome Refugees

  4. Steve Hilton: After the Kavanaugh confirmation, look for the next Democratic president to ‘Pack the Court’

Following Senate confirmation Saturday of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to serve on the Supreme Court, we shouldn’t underestimate the fury of the left now that their destructive and divisive effort to retain power has been thwarted.

The Supreme Court has swung away from the judicial activism that Democrats have relied on for decades to deliver key elements of their political agenda, and they’re not going to accept this defeat gracefully.

  6. Daesh Terrorists Again Evacuated by US Copters From Syria’s Deir Ez-Zor – Report

The Saturday evacuation is the latest in a series of airlifts coming amid the Syrian Army’s ongoing offensive on jihadists who still control small pockets of Deir ez-Zor, much of them empty desert.

A number of wounded Daesh* terrorists militants have been evacuated by US helicopters from Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor province, local sources said, as quoted by the Syrian news website Arabi Today.

On Saturday night, the militants were reportedly relocated from the town of al-Shaafah located near the Iraqi border to an unknown location.

It is not the first time that US military aircraft have been spotted transferring Daesh terrorists from embattled regions.

In late September, Syria’s SANA news agency reported that the US-led coalition performed “an air landing operation” on the outskirts of al-Marashida in order to airlift terrorist leaders to an unknown destination.

In April, SANA said that US military helicopters reportedly evacuated at least three Daesh commanders of Iraqi origin along with their family members from Tal al-Shayer region 20 kilometers southeast of the Syrian city of al-Shadadi in Hasakah province.

This Saturday, April. 29, 2017 still taken from video, shows an American soldier standing on an armored vehicle in the northern village of Darbasiyah, Syria

In December 2017, SANA revealed that a number of Daesh militants had been evacuated from several locations across Deir ez-Zor province to the al-Hasakah region, under the control of US forces.

Deir ez-Zor had been under siege by Daesh militants since 2014 before the area was cleared in the fall of 2017 by government forces. The province was also targeted by a Daesh offensive from May to June this year.

The United States and a number of its allies launched their campaign against Daesh in Syria in 2014, in what was approved neither by the UN nor Damascus.

  7. Literally, JINOs – Jews In Name Only – another “self-identifying” story:

…Non-Israeli, left-leaning groups often identify as Jewish in order to give credence to their views in the eyes of the international community regarding a country in which most have never lived, served or voted. Their demand that the democratically elected Israeli government consider their positions on Israel while they sit comfortably in their Brooklyn, LA or Miami homes is asinine.…

As the world sees politics shift to more extremist views, Jews seem to have fallen victim to the polarizing effects of this new normal – which is anything but.

It only takes a little investigating into some of these groups that claim to support Israel and actively advocate for solutions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in order to find that many do not support Israel at all.

This is a fairly new, albeit ridiculous idea of “self-identifying” as Jews, even if one is not ethnically or religiously Jewish by any accepted standard. This somehow affords individuals the accreditation to speak about Israel from “a Jewish perspective.”
