    • When “Lone Wolf” gets more tired than a single mule on a hundred-acre farm, it’s anybody’s guess what new palliative trope they’ll come up with.

Canada has knowingly brought vicious predators into its midst and now pauses to ponder about why their little children are being murdered.

One only can imagine a special confinement in everlasting hell where the predators and their enablers get to “enjoy” each others company on a regular basis.

  1. UK Police ‘Spotted Killer Gang’ Before They Embarked on Two-Hour Stabbing Spree (sputniknews, Sep 11, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201809111067941679-london-knife-murders-trial/

“A trial has been told how a gang drove around north London for two hours randomly attacking young men with knives. Police officers spotted four masked men in a car but were unable to prevent the mayhem, the Old Bailey heard.

On Tuesday, September 11, prosecutor Julian Evans told a jury at the Central Criminal Court in London that Isaiah Popoola, 18 and Ben Drummond, also 18 were among a group of men who were involved in five incidents in north London between 8.15pm and 10.15pm on February 20.

Popoola denies murdering Abdikarim Hassan, 17, and Sadiq Mohamed, 20, in separate attacks in Kentish Town on February 20 this year. Drummond has pleaded not guilty to murdering Mr. Mohamed and both men deny violent disorder and wounding.

Gang ‘Switched From BMW to Van’

In the first two attacks a silver BMW 3 Series car was involved and in the other three incidents, the gang used a dark blue Ford Transit van.

The jury was shown a CCTV clip of the first attack in which the BMW pulled up in Aldenham Street, Kentish Town and two men in dark clothing got out and chased Yusuf Ahmed, 17, and Hamza Syed, 25, towards a block of flats. Syed was stabbed in the upper body as he hid behind some bins.

A short while later the BMW stopped in Bartholomew Road and the two men got out and attacked Mr. Hassan, who died after being stabbed in the chest and groin.

Mr. Evans claimed the gang, who were from the Peckwater estate in Kentish Town, carried out two more attacks on men in Hackney and Chalk Farm before they claimed another victim in Malden Road at 10.15pm.

The van pulled up and seven masked men — all armed — got out and ran towards Suliman Mohamed and his friend Sadiq Mohamed.

Suliman escaped through a nearby shop but Sadiq was chased by four men with knives.

Victim Killed After Being Cornered in Car

“Sadiq tried to seek refuge in a stationary car. He got in the back and said ‘Go, go. Drive, drive.’ But the driver got out, fearing he was going to be robbed. The four men converged on the car. He was dragged outside and repeatedly stabbed,” Mr. Evans said.

He said the BMW was later found close to Mr. Popoola’s house and drops of Mr. Hassan’s blood were found on the bonnet and on the rear seat.

Mr. Evans said the van was found burnt out the following morning in Ingestre Road, not far from Mr. Drummond’s home.

    Defendant’s Vigil Alibi

When Popoola was arrested he gave a prepared statement in which he gave an alibi for the night of the murders — he said he was attending a vigil on the Peckwater estate for a friend who had been murdered a few days before.

Mr. Evans told the trial plain clothes police officers had seen the silver BMW earlier in the evening and noticed four men inside, all wearing facemasks.

They called in the registration number but the car was not spotted again until the following evening, long after Mr. Hassan had been killed.

The trial is expected to last for several weeks.

London has seen dozens of knife murders this year and UK politicians have sought to blame each other for cuts in police numbers and the rise in violence.”

  2. Maxine Waters Says She Threatens Trump Supporters ‘All The Time’

(Kaylee McGhee, Liberty Headlines) Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., said she mocks and threatens Trump supporters “all the time” in a speech over the weekend, reinforcing her call to publicly confront members of President Donald Trump’s administration.

After Waters publicly called on Democrats to harass Trump officials and supporters, the president criticized her, calling her comments intentionally “threatening.”

Waters joked that Trump was wrong because she hadn’t been threatening anyone then.

“I did not threaten [Trump] constituents and supporters. I do that all the time, but I didn’t do that that time,” Waters said, according to The Hill.

  3. French kids should learn Arabic? Education minister suggests controversial curriculum change (RT, Sep 10, 2018)
    https://www.rt.com/news/438110-france-arabic-language-blanquer-schools/

“France’s minister of national education has expressed support for adding Arabic language to the school curriculum for French children, enraging the country’s right-wing that has warned of dire consequences if the plan goes ahead.

France should draw up a “qualitative strategy” for teaching Arabic language in schools, Jean-Michel Blanquer said during an interview on French television. He insisted that Arabic, along with Chinese and Russian, is one of the “great languages of civilization” and should be learned “not only by people of Maghrebi origin or Arabic-speaking countries.”

Blanquer’s comments were made in response to a report authored by the Montaigne Institute, a Paris-based think tank, which found that middle and high school students learning Arabic have increasingly turned to religious schools that teach Salafism – a radical branch of Islamic that advocates Sharia law. The report called on the French government to incorporate Arabic into the public school curriculum in order to counter the political and religious indoctrination taught at these Salafi schools.

Due to the rising popularity of these Islamic schools, Salafi indoctrination “is gaining ground in France” – especially among young people, the report’s author, Hakim El Karaoui, wrote. “The number of students learning Arabic in France’s secondary and high schools has halved. But the rate has multiplied by ten in mosques.”

But while Blanquer was quite vague on the possible pros and cons of such an endeavor, Robert Menard, the right-wing mayor of the town of Beziers, didn’t mince words when he decried Blanquer’s suggestion as a “project with incalculable consequences.”

“To develop the teaching of Arabic in school and to ‘give prestige’ is to legitimize the birth of another nation within France,” Menard tweeted. Apparently, he was not alone in his anger.

“In a normal country, immigrants are asked to integrate, especially by learning the national language. In our country, the Minister of Education wants French children to learn Arabic,” wrote Antoine Baudino, a legislative staffer for the vocally anti-immigrant National Rally party.

Jean-Frederic Poisson, a member of the National Assembly and president of the Christian Democratic Party, called the idea of teaching Arabic in public schools a “bad joke.”

“Faced with the level of French declining from our students, this preposterous idea demonstrates that the government has a very disturbing sense of priorities!” he wrote…”

    • This is pure hysteria-mongering. France has its own Académie Francaise that will invent new French words as necessary in order to prevent any ubiquity of Franglais in the press or media. Publishers actually can be fined for using le bulldozer and other “borrowed” words (regardless of national origin) in mass media.

In several ways it will be rather amusing to see all of these once semi-nomadic “immigrants” slam into a millennia of carefully crafted Frankish culture. Let the games begin!

In closing, France’s intricate culture or language being hijacked isn’t my central concern. It’s the eventual custody or confiscation of that nation’s nuclear arsenal wot really grinds my gears.

      • You’re talking about the past.

Bastard French is growing like Topsy – shocking! – I learned this weekend. A professor friend from France just came back from summer vacation. She found the degradation of the language more scandalous than the car-b-ques.

        Where’s the Académie police?!

        • She found the degradation of the language more scandalous than the car-b-ques.

Cars can be replaced, the amount of national culture compressed into its language cannot be regained once it’s allowed to slip.

One random day, down at the corner store, a women was seeking to find out from a Frenchman the price his shoes sold for. Using my meager high school French, I asked and he replied, “Sixty Euros.”

The woman almost shrieked, “I swear, you could read from a French telephone book and sound just as sexy!”

  4. Richard: pay close attention to this one, Maxine Waters is crazy but she is telling us what the plans of the Dems are, they are going to try and get a Dem in the White House before 2020 not matter what they have to do. I think their plans are that once there is a Dem in the White House the US will never have a fair election, they want to ensure that in the future only radical leftists become US Presidents.

Maxine Waters vows to ‘get’ Pence once she gets Trump impeached

Rep. Maxine Waters promised a crowd of young Democrats over the weekend that she would go after Vice President Mike Pence once President Trump is removed from office.

The California congresswoman accepted a lifetime achievement award from the Stonewall Young Democrats on Saturday in Los Angeles, telling the enthusiastic crowd that Mr. Trump threatened Americans’ way of life and deserved to be impeached.

“I’m gonna get him,” Ms. Waters said, according to a video published by progressive activist and attendee Edward Garren. “I’m in this fight and I’m not gonna move.

“And, as you know, there’s a difference in how some of our leadership talk about how we should handle all of this,” she continued. “They say, ‘Maxine, please don’t say impeachment anymore. ‘And when they say that, I say, ‘Impeachment, impeachment, impeachment, impeachment, impeachment, impeachment, impeachment, impeachment.’”

  5. Gruesome crime shocks Egypt as man decapitates his wife and four children

A mother and four children who were found killed and decapitated in New Cairo’s Shorouk City were murdered by the father, an Egyptian police investigation has revealed.

Manal A., 27 years old, was found brutally murdered along with her four children in their residence in Shorouk City after neighbors reported a bad smell. A knife was found by their side, and the husband Karam A., 38 years old, was not there.

Security forces then found out that Karam had fled to his hometown in the Sohag Governorate so they ambushed him and arrested him at the Sohag railway station.

Karam confessed to killing his wife and children after suspecting his wife’s infidelity, adding that they were separated three days before he killed them.

Egypt has witnessed several murders in recent months. In May, an entire family was found killed in Al-Rehab, and in June, a mother and her two children were killed by the father in Boulaq El-Dakrour. In August, a man killed his daughter’s fiancé and buried him in the apartment.

A few days ago, a father and his four children were found dead. The forensics report revealed that they were poisoned.

      • They’re all sick, some more than others but nonetheless, all Muslim men are potentially dangerous.

        • … all Muslim men are potentially dangerous.

Without the impossible task of 100% around-the-clock monitoring, there is no remotely viable way to predict or detect when “radicalization” happens. Even such a supposedly tight surveillance net still would not catch all persons of interest nor prevent their jihadist attacks.

What’s more, the “danger zone” immediately succeeding such events is almost impossible to anticipate, interdict, or neutralize.

In effect, ISIS has played a central role in spawning a “very fine grain” of Islamic terrorism. Filtering down to individual, random, assailants it, literally, demands an equally tight mesh drawn up against it which, as we all of us know, would instantaneously abrogate the Constitutions of nearly all Western nations.

All by itself, this fineness of “granularity” acts as a fundamental precursor with respect to formulating Western (or multinational) Strategic Global Measures™ that will assure Islam no longer has the capacity for nor a desire to pursue jihad.

  6. Penn State math course covers ‘imperialism’ and ‘cultural intolerance’

A professor teaching a general education math course at Penn State University included pages of his personal opinion on politics and social justice issues in exams.

Campus Reform received copies of exams, including a midterm, from an anonymous student who was concerned by the political nature of the course material when they took Professor Marc Fabbri’s math class last spring. The course material contains large portions of political opinion that have little relevance to the course topic.

  7. Are We Remembering 9/11 or Forgetting It?

Rick Rescorla, chief of security for Morgan Stanley, safely evacuated all 2,700 employees on 9/11, except for six. Four of the six were himself and his three deputies (two pictured above): Wesley Mercer, Jorge Velasquez, and Godwin Forde. That’s true multiculturalism.

Rick was last seen going back into Tower 2 shortly before its collapse. When he was told he should get out, he replied, “As soon as I make sure everyone else is out.” His body was never recovered, but U.S. troops at Fallujah remembered him well.

Then there is Mike Kehoe, the firefighter who was photographed going up the stairs when most people were going down. From the expression on his face, I would guess that he had doubts about his survival. But he did survive. He got out about 30 seconds before the tower collapsed. But 343 of his fellow firefighters were not so lucky.

And what about Todd Beame? He was a passenger on United Flight 93. What happened was verified by the telephone supervisor with whom he spoke. They recited the Lord’s Prayer together, and he made her promise to tell his wife and sons he loved them. He then said his timeless words: “God help me. Jesus help me. Are you ready? Let’s roll!”

    • Thank you, Richard, for being a keeper of the 9-11 Atrocity’s flame.

Never forget. Never forgive. Never relent.

So much changed on that one single day to where American (and Western) culture will not successfully process its geopolitical fallout for decades to come.

To somehow rebalance this ledger without the emergence of an Imperialist American-led “New World Order” will be a unique challenge. Nothing would so indelibly tarnish this nation’s century’s of brave legacy than to see it become truly tyrannical.

Many might seek to make this point already. Very few of them are likely to have any depth of knowledge regarding America’s real military might.

One of the supreme tests of this nation’s backbone is going to be dealing with and facing down a genuinely tyrannical régime like Communist China. Islam merely represents some pre-game warmups compared to the hardball that’s going to be played with Beijing.

Reelecting Trump likely will be one of the very few (if only) ways of ensuring sufficient future American military might.

      • Berlin
      • Munich
      • Vienna

      Now Lyon…

It’s as if someone stole my most recent travel diary.

Knowing that these beautiful places are descending into Third World squalor and violence gives me the tummy-wobbles.

      • I know what you mean, during my 2 years in Germany I never saw a German town that wasn’t clean. I shudder to think about what they look like now.

        • I know what you mean, during my 2 years in Germany I never saw a German town that wasn’t clean.

On my various business trips there, I continually (and refreshingly) encountered restaurant and and food-service personnel with no visible tattoos or multiple facial piercings (or facial piercings at all. It was like going back in time a few decades.

    • I wish there was some way to watch it, Johnnyu, without my blood pressure spiking like a bottle rocket. I had just returned from Asia (while my Victorian flat was being redecorated) and within days the 9-11 Atrocity happened.

At that time, one of my more prudent decisions was to leave my television set unplugged. I knew that if there was one sure bet, it would be that the MSM would rerun that Twin Tower footage another bazillion times.

Just reading above about the 343 firefighters that perished in the Atrocity was enough to get my blood boiling. It is impossible to imagine the tsunami of grief that must have swept over all those different engine companies.

In what I hope might be an appropriate close, I never plugged in my television ever again. There’s significant doubt as to whether I’ll ever again allow one to be activated in my home at any time in the future. The MSM has shown itself to be so treacherous that it deserves neither patronage nor viewer trust.

  9. Al-Qaida leader urges Muslims to fight US across the world (abcnews, Sep 11, 2018)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/al-qaida-leader-urges-muslims-fight-us-world-57751330

“Marking the 17th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, the leader of al-Qaida has called on Muslims to wage war against the United States throughout the world.

In a 30-minute speech released Tuesday, Ayman al-Zawahri went to great lengths to portray the United States as a religious enemy of Muslims, using Washington’s transfer of its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem as evidence of that enmity.

The Washington-based SITE group, which monitors media material by militants across the world, released an English transcript of the speech.

“America (is) the number one enemy of Muslims … despite of its professed secularism,” al-Zawahri said in the video. He listed 14 directives to fight the United States, including an appeal for Muslim unity and jihadists close ranks.”

  10. Egypt: Arab League hits out at Washington over cuts to UNRWA funding

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abou El Gheit said the US’s goal of cutting funds to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) was to “question the legitimacy” of the agency, during an Arab league meeting in Cairo on Tuesday.

“There is an unprecedented American desire to free the Palestinian cause from its tragic, legal, political and humanitarian content,” El Gheit said.

“The decision by a UN member state to contribute to UNRWA or not is a sovereign decision. But I say here with great determination to you that it will not alter in any way the energy and determination with which UNRWA will serve Palestinian refugees and implement the mandate we were given,” UNRWA Commissioner General Pierre Krahenbuhl said while speaking during the meeting.

Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir called on “a pragmatic plan of action to find long-term solutions in providing support to Palestinian refugees” during an intra-session Arab League Foreign Ministers talk.

On August 31 the US State Department announced that it had determined the UNRWA to be “irredeemably flawed” and would be withdrawing all funding.

The US contributed US $355 million (€305 million) to UNRWA in 2016 and released US $60 million (€43 million) of their allocated funding earlier this year, before announcing the cuts.

SOT, Ahmed Abou El Gheit, Arab League Secretary-General (Arabic): “There is an unprecedented American desire to free the Palestinian cause from its tragic, legal, political and humanitarian content.”

SOT, Ahmed Abou El Gheit, Arab League Secretary-General (Arabic): “The American goal is very clear and goes beyond the issue of financial contribution to the question of the legitimacy of UNRWA itself, which was established according to a UN resolution and there are attempts to undermine its credibility in order to question the issue of refugees in general.”

SOT, Ahmed Ibrahim Bakr, Palestinian refugee student (Arabic): “I want to thank you with all my heart for your support, but today I invite you to help us keep our schools open.”

SOT, Pierre Krahenbuhl, UNRWA Commissioner General: “Ultimately the decision by a UN member state to contribute to UNRWA or not is a sovereign decision. But I say here with great determination to you that it will not alter in any way the energy and determination with which UNRWA will serve Palestinian refugees and implement the mandate we were given.”

SOT, Pierre Krahenbuhl, UNRWA Commissioner General: “UNRWA still needs 186 million US dollars to ensure that the schools and clinics stay open and emergency services remain operational. This meeting here today for UNRWA is truly a historic moment and a special event.”

SOT, Riyad al-Maliki, Foreign Minister of Palestine (Arabic): “The State of Palestine, with its leadership and people, will find itself compelled to make difficult decisions in the face of this international negligence and the inaction in seriously dealing with the affairs of the Palestinian people. We hope that these latest crazy steps by the American administration will be a dangerous signal to strike the conscience of the world to move before it is too late.”

SOT, Adel al-Jubeir, Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia (Arabic): “We need a pragmatic plan of action to find long-term solutions in providing support to Palestinian refugees to let us ensure that there is no shortage of support and that support is focused and effective.”

  11. Ankara Forces Ask for $10,000 to Let Idlib Terrorists to Escape to Turkey (farsnews, Sep 11, 2018)
    http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13970620000348

“TEHRAN (FNA)- Tahrir al-Sham Hay’at (the Levant Liberation Board or the Al-Nusra Front) terrorists are paying $10,000 each to Turkish border guards to be able to leave Idlib for Turkish soil as the Syrian Army is standing order to launch a major operation in Northwestern Syria, a media outlet reported on Tuesday.

The Arabic-language al-Watan daily quoted local sources in border regions of Darkoush, Salqin and Khirbet al-Joz in Idlib province as reporting that the Turkish border guards exchanged fire with terrorists that tried to escape Idlib towards Turkish territories.

The daily further said that the fighting erupted as the terrorists of Tahrir al-Sham were bargaining to lower the amount of money the Turkish guards had asked for to let the militants escape Idlib for Turkey.

It further pointed to intensified clashes between the Turkish border guards and terrorists in the last two days, adding that Tahrir al-Sham commanders have not thus far agreed to pay the demanded sums to the border guards to enter Turkey.

The daily quoted field sources in Jisr al-Shughour in Western Idlib as disclosing that the border guards have demanded Tahrir al-Sham to pay $10,000 each to receive a permission to cross the border, while they ave asked the terrorists of al-Tahrir al-Wataniyeh Front (the National Liberation Front) for only $5,000 for the same permission.

Turkey’s Yeni Safak daily claimed on Monday that the Turkish army has kept more than 50,000 FSA terrorists on alert in Afrin, Azaz, Jarabulus, al-Bab and al-Rai regions to further sent them to battle against the Syrian government forces’ operation in Idlib province.

It further said that 30,000 FSA gunmen are in regions under the occupation of the Operation Euphrates Shield and Operation Olive Branch forces, “and a sum 20,000 FSA fighters are to be transferred to Idlib to counter the Damascus forces’ upcoming operation”.

The daily went on to say that Turkish army has urged its allied militants to report the exact number of their gunmen and volume of arms and ammunition.

It said that the Turkish army has in recent days sent a number of cannons and missile launchpads to the borders with Syria and has reinvigorated its forces’ combat capabilities.”

  12. Arab Quartet Condemns Ongoing Iranian Meddling in Region’s Internal Affairs (aawsat, Sep 11, 2018)
    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1392386/arab-quartet-condemns-ongoing-iranian-meddling-region%E2%80%99s-internal-affairs

“A ministerial committee condemned on Tuesday Iran’s ongoing meddling in the internal affairs of Arab countries.

The Arab quartet ministerial meeting is tasked with following up on the crisis with Iran and finding ways to counter its interference in the Arab region. The United Arab Emirates chaired the meeting, which was held in Cairo on the sidelines of an Arab League meeting.

The committee expressed its grave concern over Iran’s role in stoking sectarian tensions in Arab countries.

It also slammed its support and arming of terrorist militias in some of these countries, which has led to chaos and instability in the region.

Such instability is hindering efforts to resolve crises in the region through peaceful means, said the committee, calling on Tehran to cease its behavior.

It singled out Iran’s support for the Houthis militias in Yemen and their launching of ballistic missiles at Saudi Arabia. It deemed such actions as blatant violations of United Nations Security Council resolution 2216.

In addition, the committee condemned Iran’s ongoing disruptive meddling in Bahrain’s internal affairs.

It also praised a report, submitted by Manama, on Iran’s involvement in supporting the so-called terrorist Ashtar Brigades. The group is based in Iran and has received training in camps that are run by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and Lebanon’s “Hezbollah” party.

The Brigades was recently blacklisted as terrorist by a number of countries, a move welcomed by the committee.

In addition, it condemned Iran and Turkey’s ongoing meddling in the Syrian crisis and the dangerous repercussions it has on the country’s future, sovereignty, security, stability and unity.

Such meddling does not serve efforts that are being exerted to resolve the crisis through peaceful means and through the Geneva process, stressed the committee.

Turning to Yemen, it slammed Iran’s direct threat to international navigation in the Arab Gulf, Hormuz Strait and Red Sea through its regional proxies.”

  13. Egypt freezes more than 1,000 alleged Muslim Brotherhood charities (mee, Sep 11, 2018)
    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/egypt-freezes-more-1000-alleged-muslim-brotherhood-charities-902157713

“An Egyptian judicial committee on Tuesday announced an asset freeze of more than 1,000 charities tied to the banned Muslim Brotherhood, as well as those of hospitals and individuals.

The funds of 1,133 charities were to be frozen, the committee said in a statement, as well as numerous other entities it said were owned by the Brotherhood.

The decision came after a law was passed earlier this year to oversee the freezing of assets of “terrorists” and “terrorist groups”.

The Muslim Brotherhood was outlawed and designated a terrorist organisation in Egypt in December 2013, months after the military ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi following mass protests against his rule.

The judicial committee additionally announced that the assets of 1,589 Brotherhood members would be frozen, including some of the movement’s leaders.

Some 118 companies, 104 schools, 69 hospitals and 33 websites and satellite channels were also hit with an asset freeze.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, United Nations human rights chief Michelle Bachelet urged Egypt’s appeals court to overturn mass death sentences handed down by a lower court after what she said was an “unfair trial”….”

      http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/311332/Egypt/Politics-/Egypt-to-transfer-seized-Muslim-Brotherhood-funds-.aspx

“The Egyptian state committee tasked with confiscating and managing the funds and assets of members of the Muslim Brotherhood group will transfer them to the state treasury in accordance with a new law, it said on Tuesday.

According to Article 11 of law no. 22 of this year, whenever a court verdict is final and rules on the management of assets, the committee has the right to transfer the ownership of the seized funds to the state treasury, if the committee requests permission from the relevant court.

“Libyan Foreign Minister, Mohamed Taher Siala, yesterday denounced the recent threats made by Brigadier General Khalifa Haftar against Algeria, local media reported.

Speaking to his Algerian counterpart, Abdelkader Messahel, Siala stressed the Libyan authorities’ commitment to establishing close relations with their neighbouring state, hailing Algiers’ “efforts” to resolve the Libyan crisis.

On Sunday, Haftar threatened to launch a war on Algeria after Algerian soldiers crossed the border. He accused the North African country of exploiting the instability in Libya.

On his part, Messahel stressed that “Algeria will continue to support Libya in reaching a political solution towards settling the crisis while maintaining its policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.””

“Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity has launched a family planning campaign with the aim of confronting the rising birth rates across the country.

The “two [children] are enough” campaign aimed at raising awareness about the importance of birth control.

The Social Solidarity Minister, Ghada Waly, told the state’s Al Ahram Online that reducing the population growth in Egypt “is important for the country’s economic prosperity”.

The project’s first phase, Waly explained, will target 2,257 villages in ten governorates, including Behira, Giza, Fayyoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor and Aswan.

“We [the ministry] cooperate with non-governmental organisations to raise awareness among Egyptian women on the importance of birth control,” she pointed out.

The Egyptian government has been carrying out numerous family planning campaigns in several provinces in an attempt to rescue the country’s struggling economy. In July, the country’s Ministry of Health and Population, represented in the population and family planning department, launched a family planning campaign, dubbed “she is capable”, in various governorates, during which family planning experts volunteered as consultants.”

  18. UN human rights chief bashes Austrian migration policies (thelocal, Sep 11, 2018)
    https://www.thelocal.at/20180911/austria-rejects-un-human-rights-chiefs

“Hungary and Austria on Tuesday rejected criticism from the UN’s new human rights chief over their migration policies, accusing her of spreading “half-truths” and “baseless suspicions”.

In her maiden speech as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet on Monday told the Human Rights Council in Geneva that she was dismayed by the approach of many developed countries towards migration.

While she did not criticise the migration policies of specific countries in her oral address, she did single out Hungary and Austria among others in a longer, written version of her speech.

In particular, the former Chilean president pointed to “shocking reports” that “food has been withheld from migrants held in transit zones on the Hungarian-Serbian border.”

When the Hungarian ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Zsuzsanna Horvath, responded to Bachelet’s speech Tuesday, she told the council it was “regrettable” that her report contained “half-truths”.

She insisted that “nobody is held in transit zones in Hungary, but everybody is free to leave them.”

“Furthermore,” she said, “food has been and will continue to be supplied to people who have already submitted their refugee claims.”

In her written speech, Bachelet also took issue with measures adopted by the Hungarian government in June enabling “authorities to arrest, criminally charge and immediately remove from Hungary’s border area any lawyer, adviser, volunteer or legally resident family member suspected of helping a person to make an asylum claim, obtain a residence permit, or take other perfectly legal actions.”

Horvath underlined the government’s position that all “illegal migration must be stopped and borders have to be protected.”

“Deliberately misleading migrants in vulnerable situations is not a humanitarian act in our view,” she said.

“It is a crime that has led already to too many deaths along migration routes.”

    Call for ‘meaningful dialogue’

Horvath said it was encouraging that Bachelet had vowed to “always listen to the concerns of governments”, but suggested she should have done so in this case.

“A meaningful dialogue with governments before running into early conclusions would certainly advance our common cause of promotion and protection of human rights,” she said.

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz meanwhile demanded Tuesday that Bachelet clarify comments she made about his country in the written version of her speech.

In the text, Bachelet warned that “prioritising the return of migrants from Europe, without ensuring that key international human rights obligations are upheld, cannot be considered a protection response.”

She said her office planned to “dispatch a team to Austria to assess recent developments in this area.”

Speaking in Vienna, Kurz said he would defend his country against “all baseless suspicions,” insisting that migrants in Austria enjoyed better living conditions than in most countries.

Instead of taking Austria to task, the UN, he said, should focus more on “countries where torture and the death penalty are on the agenda, and where the liberties of expression, assembly and religion are violated daily.””

    https://www.thelocal.ch/20180911/un-condemns-switzerland-over-deportation-of-eritrean-torture-victim

“Amnesty is now calling on Switzerland to rethink its approach to application of the Dublin Regulation for at-risk asylum seekers.

The United Nations has taken Switzerland to task for failing to properly investigate the situation of a torture survivor from Eritrea before deporting him to Italy.

The Eritrean applied for asylum in Switzerland in 2015 but the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) sent the man back to Italy under the Dublin Regulation.

According to EU rules enshrined in the Dublin Regulation, applications for asylum should be processed in the first EU country in which asylum seekers arrive.

Despite two appeals, the Federal Administrative Court of Switzerland upheld the SEM’s decision to deport the man.

But in a new ruling, the United Nations Committee Against Torture (CAT) said Swiss immigration authorities had not properly investigated the situation and that had failed to respect human rights…”
