  1. Death as Punishment “for Disbelief”: Extremist Persecution of Christians, February 2018

The jihadi assault on, and massacre of, Christians continued unabated throughout the Muslim word. According to one report titled, “Armed gangs WIPE OUT 15 villages in mass Christian slaughter in Nigeria,” several Islamic terrorists “stormed through 15 villages to massacre Christians and destroy their churches in a violent crackdown against the religion…. Dozens of people have been killed after the gangs ransacked towns and villages to clear them of all aspects of the Christian faith. Houses belonging to believers have also been razed with authorities doing little to help…” According to a human rights activist, “One attack took place in broad daylight, as people were about to go to church. The assailants chased and killed the villagers and burned down nine churches and many more houses.”

An open letter to Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari lamented that since he came to power, the plight of Christians has gone from bad to worse: 16,000 Christians have been killed—many in the name of jihad—since June 2015, when Buhari became president. The letter states:

MORE DETAILS: WikiLeaks Cybersecurity Expert Vanishes Without a Trace

According to a New York Times report, a cybersecurity expert tied to WikiLeaks has disappeared without a trace on August 20, last seen in a remote northern Norwegian town near the Arctic Circle.

“The disappearance of Arjen Kamphuis, 46, has so far flummoxed a widening police investigation that has chased stray clues and false leads in Norway, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden,” the report said.

According to the report, Norwegian police do not know if Kamphuis was a victim of foul play, and they are investigating all possible angles.

“The uncertainty, and Mr. Kamphuis’s links to WikiLeaks, the anti-secrecy organization that has run afoul of governments and other powerful interests, has the internet buzzing with conspiracy theories,” according to the report. “Some suggest a kidnapping — or worse — involving Russia, the C.I.A., MI6, Islamists or the Clintons, while others ask if he intended to disappear, possibly on some secret assignment for WikiLeaks.”

  5. Iran completes facility to build centrifuges: nuclear chief

DUBAI (Reuters) – Iran has completed a facility to build advanced centrifuges, Iran’s nuclear chief was quoted on Sunday as saying, as Tehran prepares to increase its uranium-enrichment capacity if the nuclear deal collapses after the United States exits.

In June, Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said the facility at the Natanz nuclear plant would be completed within a month.

Salehi’s statement in June came days after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said he had ordered preparations to increase the country’s uranium enrichment capacity if the nuclear agreement with world powers collapsed.

On Sunday, the official news agency IRNA quoted Salehi as saying: “(Ayatollah Khamenei) had ordered us to set up and complete a very advanced hall for the construction of modern centrifuges, and this hall has now been fully equipped and set up.”

Salehi said Iran’s announced plans to build nuclear reactors for ships, while staying within the limits set by its atomic deal with major powers, was “advancing well but would take 10 to 15 years to complete”, IRNA said.

“A third step (in reaction to the U.S. withdrawal) might be to suspend some of the limitations within the nuclear agreement, for example on the volume and level of enrichment,” Salehi said, according to IRNA.

“And the final scenario can be a complete exit from the nuclear accord, which I hope will never happen, with the help of (remaining signatories), because everyone would suffer,” Salehi added.

Iranian officials have said they would decide whether to quit the 2015 nuclear deal after studying a planned European package of economic measures that could help offset U.S. sanctions.

    • 7 injured in knife attack in downtown Paris

At least seven people have been injured in Paris after a man attacked people with a knife and an iron bar, local media reports.

Initially, the attacker armed with a knife and an iron bar wounded three people ( two men and a woman), in front of a cinema in the 19th arrondissement. A group of men playing the petanque tried to stop him by throwing a heavy iron ball used in the popular French game, according to Le Parisien.

After running away from the initial scene of the attack, the assailant continued on Rue Henri Nogueres, where he attacked two English tourists, injuring them in the chest and the head.

The aggressor, who was also injured, was finally arrested by the Anti-Crime Brigade (BAC) of the police. The suspect is believed to be an Afghani national, local media report.

In total at least seven people were injured by the individual, four of whom are in serious condition, according to a judicial source.

While authorities have yet to establish the motive behind the attack, an investigation has been launched into attempted homicide.

A source close to the investigation told Le Parisien that so far there was no indication that the incident was a terrorist attack.

  7. Health practitioners face various types of abuses (saudigazette, Sep 9, 2018)
    https://saudigazette.com.sa/article/543028/SAUDI-ARABIA/Health-practitioners-face-various-types-of-abuses

“More than 57.5 percent of the health practitioners in the Kingdom were subject to various kinds of abuse while on duty including slapping, biting and hitting by sharp weapons, according to a report carried on Sunday by Makkah daily.

The report was conducted by an investigative committee chaired by Dr. Safar Al-Sulaim, a professor of medicine at King Khaled University in Abha. The team consisted of nine members who were medicine teachers, consultants and resident doctors.

The findings were recently published by the journal of the Family and Society Medicine.

“There was no difference between the male and female medical practitioners. The abuse covered them all without any disparity,” said the team leader.

He said most of the attack incidents took place during the working hours especially at the emergency wards, admission sections and night duties and the majority of the victims were expatriates.

The study covered about 738 health practitioners in two government hospitals and 10 health centers. About 69.9 percent of the surveyed practitioners were Saudis and 30.1 percent expatriates. It included doctors, nurses, technicians and pharmacists.

According to the study, about 60 percent of the verbal and physical abuse was done by the patients themselves or their accompanying relatives.

About 60 percent of the abused practitioners said the attacks spoiled their day and the days after.

The practitioners said in order to please the patients or their relatives so as to avoid any hateful consequences, they would usually ask for more medical examinations and lab tests which will cost extra money on the hospital…”

    • A lesbian with whom I worked( a very good theatre sister) worked in SA and she showed me the multiple photos of the bruises on her breasts and thighs from the blatant groping by Saudi males (including doctors). She was a stoic and was using the “good money” to buy her own home. On her 3rd trip(to furnish the new home) one of the staff tried to rape her when alone with her in theatre (she was closing up an abdominal wound as the surgeon was called to an emergency). she flattened him with one punch, then changed gloves and closed up the wound while he woke up then ran out crying. When the police arrived she was arrested, spent a week in gaol and was deported losing all of her back pay and bonus. She had no regrets as she said that had to be the most expensive punch in history , but it was also the most satisfying as this creep had raped two other nurses and she broke his mandible in 3 places. In her opinion she was lucky to get away with it.

    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/un-human-rights-chief-bachelet-urges-egypt-overturn-mass-death-sentences-941007283

“United Nations human rights chief Michelle Bachelet has urged Egypt’s appeals court to overturn mass death sentences handed down by a lower court after what she said was an “unfair trial”.

The former Chilean President, who took office as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights last week, also criticised on Sunday a law giving immunity from future prosecution to senior military officers.

An Egyptian court on Saturday delivered death sentences to 75 people, including prominent Muslim Brotherhood leaders Essam al-Erian and Mohammed Beltagi, over a 2013 sit-in that ended with security forces killing hundreds of protesters.

Amnesty International condemned the sentencing, calling the trial “disgraceful”.

If carried out, the sentences “would represent a gross and irreversible miscarriage of justice,” Bachelet said in a statement…”

    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/syrian-migrants-allege-illegal-greek-pushback-turkey-1480060668

“Greek authorities in July illegally expelled a group of mostly Syrian refugees after burning their shoes, papers and other personal items, a report said on Saturday.

A Greek refugee rights group in February said it had received reports of “systematic” pushbacks on the Greek-Turkish border. The practice was indiscriminately applied to families, pregnant women, torture victims and children, it said.

The Greek government in January had denied carrying out pushbacks.

Amir Mahmood, a 24-year-old Syrian, told the Efimerida ton Syntakton Greek newspaper that 14 refugees and migrants including small children were pushed back to Turkey on 28 July.

The group from Syria, Yemen and Algeria was apprehended by police shortly after crossing the Evros River between Greece and Turkey, Mahmood said.

They were locked up with another 22 people until dark and then taken back to the river and handed over to armed men in military fatigues.

After that, they were pushed back into Turkey. The men were forced to remove their shoes, which were placed into a pile and set on fire, he said.

The police had earlier taken their money and had burnt their spare clothes, papers and other personal items, Mahmood said. “I walked three hours without shoes.”

Some of the people he was locked up with had been picked up and expelled at least six times, losing their belongings each time, he said.

A Greek police source declined to comment, saying they did not respond to media reports…”

    https://www.thelocal.it/20180909/150-pneumonia-cases-spark-health-alert-in-north-italy

“Authorities have issued health alert after 150 cases of pneumonia were recorded in a week, mainly in towns near the northern Italian city of Brescia.

Suspecting the presence of a pneumonia-causing virus in the water supply, they have taken samples from the distribution network for analysis. Results are expected in several days.

Autopsies will be conducted on a 69-year-old woman and an 85-year-old man who died this week to determine whether they died from pneumonia, according to local media reports.

Pneumonia is usually caused when bacteria, viruses or fungi infect the lungs. It can be life-threatening, especially among the elderly and those with serious health conditions.

Provincial health services have called on residents to take precautions, including disinfecting tap filters and shower hoses and to let hot water run for a period of time with the windows open before using it.

Hospital emergencies in several municipalities to the south and east of Brescia identified 121 cases of pneumonia, the health officer in the Lombardy region Giulio Galera said on television.

A survey of general practitioners found at least 30 other people had been affected.”
