  1. Australia: Clashes erupt as Melbourne activists protest ‘despicable’ Farage

More than 200 demonstrators gathered in Melbourne on Friday to protest the former head of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) Nigel Farage and his political, social and cultural views.

The demonstration was organised by the Coalition Against Racism and Fascism (CARF).

According to police, multiple clashes occurred between anti-racism protesters and Farage supporters with police forced to intervene several times. Five people were reportedly arrested.

“You [Nigel Farage] are not welcome. Your message is filth and hate. It’s disgusting. And you are despicable,” said Victor, a protester.

Farage is partaking in a week-long tour of New Zealand and Australia.

  3. ‘Mealy-mouthed’ Police Chief Skewered for Refusing to Say Radical Islamic Terrorism is ‘Islam-inspired’ (breitbart, Sep 7, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/09/07/police-boss-cressida-dick-skewered-mealy-mouthed-refusal-admit-radical-islamic-terrorism-islam-inspired/

“UKIP London Assembly member Peter Whittle raked Britain’s top police officer Cressida Dick over the coals for her “mealy-mouthed” description of radical Islamic terrorists as “so-called Islamist-inspired”.

Intervening in the London Assembly questions and answers session as there was some suggestion in the chamber that the English Defence League street protest organisation founded — but now abandoned — by Tommy Robinson might be a terrorist outfit, Mr Whitte said: “Whether you agreee with them or not, and I don’t, if you start talking about people like the EDL in terms of terrorism, I think you’re on to a real problem… You’ve got to be careful when you start saying people are terrorists.”

Mr Whittle used this intervention as a launchpad to question the use of terminology by the establishment and, in particular, Commissioner Dick herself, asking: “You’re talking about ‘right-wing’ groups… ‘extreme right-wing’, you have no problem saying that — but then you go on to say ‘so-called Islamist-inspired’. Why are you mealy-mouthed?”…”

  4. Afghan Prez Tells Germany Not to Become a ‘Fortress’, Low Birth-Rate Europe Needs Migrants (breitbart, Sep 7, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/09/07/afghan-prez-tells-germany-not-become-fortress-low-birth-rate-europe-needs-migrants/

“Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has told Germany that it should not become a “fortress” to his nation’s migrants, reminding the country that Europe is in demographic decline and needs foreign labour.

The president of formerly war-torn Afghanistan told Bild that he is “delighted” that so many Afghans had fled his country “straight from camps” to Germany to become “leading doctors, engineers, computer experts, and others”.

Dodging the question from the German tabloid’s reporter whether it was safe for his citizens to return home, President Ghani said that “Safety in Afghanistan is a very difficult notion to define,” and implied that each migrant decides “psychologically, morally” if it is safe for them to return.

In 2017, Germany logged 16,423 asylum applications from Afghan nationals — the third highest after Syria and Iraq — while granting refugee status, subsidiary protection, and humanitarian protection to a total of 51,169 who can stay in the country. Some 56,722 applications were rejected.

However, Germany does not have a strong record for successful deportations of failed asylum seekers after it was revealed that the country had failed to deport some 21,000 migrants last year.

The Bild reporter raised the issue of Germans’ increasing scepticism about the ability of third world migrants to integrate, with President Ghani asserting in response: “Germany cannot become a fortress.”

Evoking a post-Nazi Germany, the Afghan said that the country had “fundamentally transformed itself” and told Germans to judge Afghan migrants by their “successes” — not the standard set by the many who have been convicted of acts of murder, rape, or terrorism.

“Germany stands for me as a beacon of hope, and as a beacon of social integration and economic growth, and also compassion – human compassion,” Ghani told the tabloid, adding that he thinks “the third generation of Afghans is really likely to come back and transform this country”…”

  5. Moroccan Migrants Arrested After Italian Teen Gang Raped (breitbart, Sep 7, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/09/07/moroccan-migrants-arrested-after-italian-teen-gang-raped/

“Two Moroccan migrants have been arrested in connection with the gang rape of a 16-year-old Italian girl who was lured into an alley and attacked by the three men.

The attack took place in the city of Avezzano, located in the Abruzzo near Rome and allegedly saw the three Moroccans lure the girl into an alley at which point they undressed her and sexually assaulted and raped her, Il Giornale reports.

Police say they have arrested two Moroccan migrants, aged 24 and 26, in connection with the attack but are still on the hunt for the remaining suspect who is still at large.

“The group forced the minor to follow them in an alley with an excuse, one of them undressed and forced her to have sexual intercourse,” the preliminary investigation into the attack claimed.

Following the attack, the victim told her parents and then the police of her ordeal and also said she had been threatened by the trio of migrants not to tell police.

The rape comes shortly after another rape case that made headlines in Italy last month in which a 25-year-old Senegalese man was accused of raping a 15-year-old Italian girl on a beach in Jesolo near Venice. The migrant suspected to have committed the attack, Mohamed Gueye, is already well-known to police.

The most infamous migrant sex attack in Italy occurred earlier this year and saw not only the alleged rape of a teen girl but her brutal murder and dismemberment by a Nigerian drug dealer. The death of 18-year-old Pamela Mastropietro shocked the nation as Italians learned that her body parts were stuffed into suitcases left by the side of a road.

Following the case, renowned Italian criminologist Alessandro Meluzzi claimed that the Nigerian mafia was “colonising” Italy….”

“A Turkish court on Friday sentenced the former head of the pro-Kurdish opposition, Selahattin Demirtas, to more than four years in jail on terrorism charges, his first conviction after spending 23 months in prison.

Demirtas, one of Turkey’s best-known politicians and head of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP), has been incarcerated while on trial for a series of terrorism-related charges. The Kurdish politician could face a total of up to 142 years in prison if convicted of all the charges. He has denied the allegations.

On Friday, the court sentenced Demirtas to four years and eight months for carrying out terrorist propaganda during a speech in 2013, when the government was holding peace talks with Kurdish fighters about a possible ceasefire.

“Footage featuring a woman mercilessly attacking a juvenile maid over “excess tea” has stoked social media uproar.

The woman is seen striking the child for”making tea for a family” in the viral video. The maid is then subjected to a volley of (verbal) abuse and has her hair yanked.

“Had warned her time and again. Incorrigible girl has no shame,” the mistress of the house says before tugging at her ear and striking her cheek again.

The woman then threatens to throw the child out. “Get lost. Today is your final day (here).

A man is heard interjecting after. “Hired a 14-year-old in the first place. And now you are attacking her mercilessly.”

  10. Iranians targeted by smartphone surveillance operation: report (france24, Sep 7, 2018)
    https://www.france24.com/en/20180907-iranians-targeted-smartphone-surveillance-operation-report

“Israeli cybersecurity firm Check Point on Friday said a surveillance operation had targeted the smartphones of several hundred Iranian citizens via malware implanted in their handsets, indicating Tehran was responsible.

“This is the first time to our knowledge that a technical analysis technique has highlighted the fact a government has led a cyberespionage campaign on smartphones,” the firm’s vice-president for Europe, Thierry Karsenti, told AFP.

He added that smartphones were an ideal tool for surveillance as “they accompany you everywhere and are almost always switched on”.

The company said its investigation had found around 240 people affected and nearly all were Iranians, “consistently aligning with our estimation that this campaign is of Iranian origin”.

However, the firm also found some targets from Britain as well as Afghanistan.

Check Point also established that some supporters in Iran of the Islamic State group, as well as some of Kurdish and Turkish origin — people “that could pose a threat to stability of the Iranian regime” — had also been targeted by mobile applications containing spyware.

One of the applications monitored came from a firmware system update website which initially linked through to an Iranian internet protocol address before switching to a Russian one.”

Halal food is the largest and most diverse sector within the Islamic economy. Its expansion has resulted in the emergence of numerous halal startups, from baby food and confectionary to ready-meals.…

    • One could ,on a good day, argue for a religious exemption on the grounds of custom and allow small scale halal murder of animals, but in England where it is wholly against OUR laws, to then set up a multi-million pound business that will turn our country into one vast halal slaughterhouse purely for the benefit of muslims is a direct threat to our way of life, and a disgusting insult to all Englishmen, especially as the rspca, who for the moment have taken time off from licking muslim arses, consider this development “disappointing”,which is a new low in in invertebrate politics.

  13. Two health scares at US airports tied to Mecca pilgrims

CHICAGO: Two major health scares at U.S. airports involving inbound flights are related to pilgrims returning from the Hajj, the Muslim pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, which ended in late August, U.S. health officials said on Friday.

On Wednesday, U.S. health officials sent an emergency response team with mobile diagnostic equipment to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York after they were told that more than 100 passengers aboard an Emirates airlines flight from Dubai were experiencing flu-like symptoms.

Dr. Martin Cetron, director for the division of Global Migration and Quarantine at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told Reuters in a telephone interview that health officials evaluated nearly 549 passengers at the airport, and sent a total of 11 people to a local hospital for more testing.

Ten people were tested for a battery of respiratory viruses and bacteria in hopes of ruling out serious pathogens that could present a public health threat.

Two of them tested positive for an especially virulent type of influenza A virus, and one of the two, who was gravely ill with pneumonia, was co-infected with another respiratory virus, Cetron said. A third person tested positive for a cold virus.

All three had taken part in the Hajj, which this year drew some 2 million people to Mecca, Cetron said.

Seven crew members, who boarded the flight in Dubai and were not at the pilgrimage, tested negative for a number of respiratory infections of public health concern, Cetron said.

The next day, two flights arriving in Philadelphia from Europe were screened by medical teams after 12 passengers reported flu-like symptoms. One of them had visited Mecca for the Hajj.

Cetron said health officials in New York had been prepared to quarantine a large group of sick passengers in an area at the airport. From a total of 11 passengers taken to hospital for evaluation, 10 were tested for respiratory symptoms; one showed signs of food poisoning.

“It was a much smaller incident. That’s not uncommon,” Cetron said. “Often the incoming information from multiple sources can be exaggerated beyond what we really find.”

All 10 patients with respiratory symptoms tested negative for the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome or MERS, a highly infectious and deadly respiratory infection that was first identified in the Middle East in 2012.

The CDC was not alerted in advance about the two flights that landed in Philadelphia from Paris and Munich, but several travellers had complained of illness, triggering a “medical review” of 250 passengers from those flights, a spokesman said.

Twelve passengers were found to have sore throats and coughs, and one also tested positive for the flu, a CDC spokesman confirmed.

The responses were part of a well-rehearsed network of public health officials trained to identify and contain pathogens as U.S. airports and ports of entry, Cetron said.

“Our most critical issue was to rule several respiratory illnesses of urgent public health significance,” Cetron said.

Cetron said the CDC monitors databases to track outbreaks of infectious disease that could post a treat in the United States. Although unlikely, MERS was definitely a concern that the team needed to rule out, he said.

“That was a low-probability, high consequence event that we wanted to rule out,” he said.

The CDC said in a statement that the cases were a reminder that flu season is coming, and urged all U.S. citizens six months or older to get a flu shot by the end of October.
