  1. Journalist Paralyzed, Gravely Ill in Turkish Prison

Dissident journalists and writers in Turkey increasingly face government threats and arbitrary arrests for their work and opinions, but for Metin Duran, the punishments have been even more grotesque.

Duran, 37, has been jailed on terrorism-related charges in Sincan Prison, near Ankara, since March 30, 2018. But he is not aware of where he is or what the court decided about him.

A former journalist for Radyo Rengin, a radio station in the city of Mardin in southeastern Turkey, Duran lost part of his memory, along with his ability to walk and speak, after a stroke that followed a heart attack on October 10, 2015. Yet despite these crippling disabilities, he was sent to prison on March 30 and remains there, the Mezopotamya news agency (MA) reported.

Ahmet Kanbal, the journalist who covered Duran’s imprisonment for Mezopotamya, told Gatestone:

Merkel-Sprecherin: Nehmen zur Kenntnis, dass es keine Hetzjagden in Chemnitz gab

In der Bundespressekonferenz vom 5. September 2018 wurde unter anderem über die Kommentare der Bundeskanzlerin zu den Demonstrationen in Chemnitz in der vergangenen Woche gesprochen.

Es kam zu Kritik an dem Begriff der Hetzjagd, auf den die Sprecher reagierten.

  3. SHOCK PHOTOS: Kavanaugh ‘Protesters’ Caught Getting Paid Hard CASH

Yesterday, Linda Sarsour who had once called for a “jihad” in the USA, who also represents the Women’s March stormed into the confirmation hearing of Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Herself, along with seventy others as confirmed earlier this morning by Sen. Chuck Grassley were arrested.

This is the same Linda Sarsour who is instructing voters to #JustDoIt and vote Democrat regardless if they like the candidates or not. Sarsour made that clear in the video below.

HUGE! Former Intelligence Community Officials speak out about Spygate

    • Tracy Beanz. She’s a social media “influencer”.
I don’t follow her, but she’s immensely popular with the PTrump base. People are doing intensive research – real journalism. Then they all quote each other, and go on to echo and massage.

My only objection is when they slip into the “packaged theme” [J.E. Dyer’s term]: the PR-junk, specifically (for me) “Mideast-4-Dummies”. Gift-wrapped with soft-focus pix of MbS and PTrump soul-kissing under the Saudi flag.

They start as respectable journalists for the otherwise poorly-served conservative audience. Their presentation is attractive, they earn loyal followers.

Fine – till they get offered big bucks to pitch disinfo – and abuse the public that’s grown to trust them.

It’s immediately apparent to those who know better. So when I spot it in their Mideast reporting, I distrust everything else. Even the solid work that built their reputation.

      I’m not alone.
Finding howlers has become a sport. A whole raft of people like Andy Bostom, J.E. Dyer, and others you’re not likely to recognize from around the world tweet these things around the clock.

I lose sleep, but it’s fun.

  5. 147 passengers EVACUATED from Boeing 737 in France over fear of CHOLERA outbreak

AN ASL Airlines Boeing 737 was evacuated over fears a child on board had highly contagious Cholera.

The emergency alert happened at the airport in Perpignan, France, which had just arrived from Oran, Algeria.

Passengers were cleared from the plane after it landed just before 2pm local time.

Emergency services than took the child to a hospital to undergo tests.

Others on board were all made to disinfect their hands and their details were taken for monitoring.

Airport staff were given a warning by the medical authorities in Algeria.

It comes after 100 people were taken ill on an Emirates flight from Dubai to New York.

    • With my usual heartless disregard for human life, this single incident (i.e., interruption in intercontinental jet passenger service) cost precisely how many Euros?

      • I got cholera in Portugal.

Got sick on the flight to London, where security whisked me away to a private clinic. All I remember was that it was fancy, they told me not to worry, all expenses were covered.

        They covered it up.

I don’t know exactly what happened. They must’ve called my father, because he materialized, and I just let everybody else deal with it.

  6. Venezuela breaks monthly inflation record, opposition says

Caracas (AFP) – Inflation in Venezuela broke the 200 percent barrier for a single month in August, bringing it to 200,000 percent over the last year, the sidelined opposition-controlled parliament said on Wednesday.

Only two months ago, inflation over a single month had passed 100 percent for the first time, opposition deputy Jose Guerra, a former central bank executive, said on Twitter.

It means prices have increased by almost 35,000 percent since the start of the year and 200,000 percent since August 31, 2017.

The International Monetary Fund has predicted inflation will reach one million percent in 2018.

  7. Blood money a business for some people (saudigazette, Sep 5, 2018)
    https://saudigazette.com.sa/article/542752/Opinion/Local-Viewpoint/Blood-money-a-business-for-some-people

“SOCIAL media websites have been bombarded with appeals to help raise millions of Saudi riyals which will be used as a blood money paid to the victim’s family. This does not reflect the true message and purpose of the Shariah regarding blood money. Blood money has become a business for some people who immensely benefit from it.

The blood money demanded by a victim’s family recently reached 55 million riyals, which is really shocking. It is a huge amount and there is no way a murderer’s family could raise this. It is like blackmailing for some. Some people have turned blood money into something like public auctions. Such thing is unacceptable in our Muslim society.

I hope the government will step in and put an end to it. When it comes to blood money, we should follow in the footsteps of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who estimated the blood money for a victim’s family as 100 camels, which is equal to about SR500,000 today. This estimate prevents any type of dispute between the murderer’s family and the victim’s family. In other words, the blood money of any victim is around SR500,000.

Almighty Allah says in the Noble Qur’an, “And there is for you in legal retribution [saving of] life, O you [people] of understanding, that you may become righteous.” (2:179)

Almighty Allah also says: “But if you pardon and overlook and forgive — then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” (64:14)

Pardoning does not mean paying compensation to a victim’s family, it is complete pardoning without asking anything in return. Unfortunately, the meaning of pardoning a murder has changed; today, it means asking the family of the murderer to ask their tribe fellowmen to help them raise money; it means there will be brokers who will intentionally increase the amount of blood money so that they can get a share of it as a profit.

In our society there are people who manifest the real meaning of pardoning; they forgive without expecting anything in return because they know Almighty Allah will compensate them.”

  8. 10,000 unaccompanied minor refugees in Spain: Madrid (gulfnews, Sep 5, 2018)
    https://gulfnews.com/news/europe/spain/10-000-unaccompanied-minor-refugees-in-spain-madrid-1.2275161

“Madrid: Madrid estimates that 10,000 minor refugees are on Spanish soil alone without their parents and has unblocked 40 million euros (Dh170 million) for regions willing to welcome them, the health ministry said on Wednesday.

The new Socialist government, in power for three months, has taken this “exceptional initiative” faced with a “rise in the number of arrivals over the past few months”, it said in a statement.

On Wednesday morning, 49 apparent minors from north Africa arrived on a beach in the southern city of Tarifa on board rickety boats, the central government’s representative office in the Andalusia region told AFP.

The government has set aside “a budget of 40 million euros (to be distributed) among regions to welcome unaccompanied foreign minors,” the ministry said.

Health Minister Carmen Monton said there were currently 10,000 such minors in Spain.
In April, Spain’s previous conservative government had counted just over 6,200 unaccompanied minor refugees, compared to 4,000 in 2016.

Many of these children and teenagers come from Morocco.

They are put under the protection of the regions or cities where they arrive, mainly the southern region of Andalusia and the overseas territories of Ceuta and Melilla in northern Morocco.

The government wants to incentivise other regions to take charge of some of them.
By law, minors cannot be sent back to their country. When they reach 18, they are entitled to Spanish nationality if they have been in a centre for at least two years.

But there has been criticism of the way Spain welcomes unaccompanied foreign minors, particularly in Melilla where many sleep in the streets or in caves waiting to smuggle themselves onto a boat to mainland Europe.

In Ceuta, local government spokesman Jacob Hachuel recently said the minors should be returned to Morocco, saying “they are better off in their family entourage”.”

  9. UNICEF: Khadija Is One among Many (moroccoworldnews, Sep 5, 2018)
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2018/09/253101/unicef-khadija-morocco-rape-children/

“Khadija’s alleged rape has caught the attention of UNICEF, which has reacted to the reported kidnapping and rape.

In a statement made public today, UNICEF aimed to raise awareness about violence against Moroccan children.

Khadija’s case became public in August, when the 17-year-old Khadija spoke for the first time about being raped.

The girl said that she was kidnapped and raped by more than 12 people for two months. While media reports have questioned the truth of Khadija’s story, UNICEF argued that it calls for “the rights of children involved in this case to be respected, whether they are victims, witnesses or accused.”

The statement added that “the children who could be associated with this case,” remain victims of the “absence of an integrated system of child protection in Morocco,” regardless of their social status.

The organization has also published figures about the number of similar cases which were adjudicated in Morocco’s courts. According to UNICEF, courts across Morocco processed 5,980 cases of violence against children in 2017.

The number caused UNICEF to call on all concerned parties, including media, to prioritize the issue above any other interests to meet acceptable standards of taking care of victims of violence.

The institution also reminded the Moroccan government of its integrated child protection policy to protect children against sexual violence adopted in 2015.

The project, which is part of a mid-term evaluation of the National Plan of Action for Children 2006-2015, aims to create a healthy environment for children, safe from all forms of neglect, abuse, violence, and exploitation.

According to UNICEF, the case of Khadija “concerns all stakeholders of the urgent need to quickly implement these territorial devices.”

The statement added, “The Child Protection Policy Implementation Program provides for the establishment, at the provincial / prefecture level, of a structure for the collection, analysis, evaluation, orientation and monitoring individual situations of children.”.

UNICEF’s statement argued that Khadija’s case is not the first and will not be the last case…”

“The United States has said that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo conveyed the need for Pakistan to take ‘sustained and decisive measures’ against terrorists and militants threatening regional peace and stability in all his meetings with civil and military leadership of Pakistan on Wednesday.

Secretary Pompeo emphasised the important role Pakistan could play in bringing about a negotiated peace in Afghanistan, said a statement issued by the US state department soon after the conclusion of the high-profile visit.

Interestingly, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, while briefing the media on the visit earlier in the day, had claimed that an impasse in Pakistan-US relations has been broken during talks with the top US diplomat…”

  11. Turkey requests immediate extradition of key FETÖ suspects from Kyrgyzstan (hurriyetdailynews, Sep 5, 2018)
    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkey-requests-immediate-extradition-of-key-feto-suspects-from-kyrgyzstan-136503

“During President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an’s visit to Kyrgyzstan, the Turkish delegation provided the Bishkek government with a list of a total 130 of FETÖ suspects and demanded immediate extradition of 13 people with links to FETÖ, which Turkey says is behind the failed 2016 coup attempt.

One of the major issues the Turkish and Kyrgyz delegations discussed was the presence of FETÖ in Kyrgyzstan. Most senior FETÖ suspects who are responsible for operations in the Central Asia are believed to be based there.

Security sources said previous officials in Kyrgyzstan had not fought strong enough with FETÖ, thus FETÖ suspects have exploited loopholes in the Kyrgyz system and have found room to maneuver.

According to sources, Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov sees FETÖ as a threat and cooperates with Turkish officials.

“Turkey has a list of people with FETÖ links who live in Kyrgyzstan. This list was given to the Kyrgyz authorities. We particularly want the extradition of 13 people on this list. These are senior figures within FETÖ, including the ‘imam’ of Central Asia. We have all the information on this individual, including his name, his address, his job, everything. He has no place to hide,” a senior Turkish official told Hürriyet.

“Many countries, including Kyrgyzstan, are aware of how deep the infiltration of FETÖ is, such as ‘covert imams.’ We have been explaining the situation and will continue to do so,” the official added.

Turkey is determined to further enhance bilateral relations with Kyrgyzstan while rescuing it from “the shadow of FETÖ,” Erdo?an said on Sept. 2 at a ceremony at Manas University in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek.

Separately, in a speech he delivered at the Sixth Turkic Council Summit in Kyrgyzstan, Erdo?an warned the Turkic states against FETÖ and called for a common stance against the group.

“We especially attach great importance for the elimination of FETÖ. What we have gone through over the past five years has openly and clearly shown to our friends as well as to us that it is imperative for us not to be late in the fight against FETÖ,” he said.”

  12. 40 Diciotti migrants missing (ansa, Sep 5, 2018)
    http://www.ansa.it/english/news/general_news/2018/09/05/40-diciotti-migrants-missing_4ca14bba-03f6-44b1-a143-18973964ca0a.html

“Rome, September 5 – Forty migrants who were transferred from the Diciotti coast guard ship to a Church-run migrant centre at Rocca Di Papa south of Rome have left the centre and are missing, interior ministry sources said Wednesday.

Caritas Italiana chief Father Francsco Soddu told ANSA “it’s a voluntary departure, not an escape.

“You flee a state of detention and that is not the case here, no one wants to stay in Italy, that is well-known”.

Some 100 Eritrean migrants were moved to the centre last week after a standoff between Interior Minister Matteo Salvini and the EU.

They are currently being moved to dioceses across Italy who have voiced willingness to take them.

Salvini kept them aboard the Diciotti for 10 days saying they would not land until the EU agreed to take them in.

In the end Catholic bishops agreed to take 100 while Ireland and Albania said they would take 20 each.”

  13. Cases of West Nile fever in Italy soar (thelocal, Sep 5, 2018)
    https://www.thelocal.it/20180905/cases-of-west-nile-fever-in-italy-soar

“The number of cases of West Nile fever in Europe have more than tripled compared to last year, with most new infections reported in Italy.

By the end of August Italy had registered 327 cases of the virus in humans, more than five times the total reported in 2017. Last year, just 204 human cases of West Nile fever were recorded in the whole of the EU.

According to the latest figures from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDPC), 144 of human cases in Italy were confirmed in the last week alone. In the same period, seven people here died of the virus.

No other European country has seen an outbreak on the same scale. Greece, the country with the second highest number of infections, has reported 147 cases – fewer than half the number in Italy.

In total, 710 cases have been reported in humans across the EU during the 2018 transmission season, which typically begins in June or July and can run until November.

Carried by birds, West Nile virus is transmitted to humans by mosquitoes. Infection can cause symptoms similar to those of the flu, and in extreme cases it can result in tremors, fever, comas and swelling of the brain tissue that can prove fatal. It can also cause meningitis.

The virus has killed at least 17 people in Italy this year, mostly in the north-east in and around Bologna, Ferrara, Rovigo and Treviso.

West Nile fever cannot pass from human to human and is usually only dangerous for people with weakened immune systems such as the elderly, doctors assure. In healthy people the virus may cause little more than a headache or sore throat.

Nonetheless the ECDPC advises people to take precautions against mosquitos, especially during the insects’ peak activity at at sunrise and sunset. Its recommendations include:

    Use repellent.

Wear long-sleeved shirts and long trousers.

Sleep in rooms with air-conditioning where possible and keep windows closed or screened.

    Use mosquito nets.”
