    • And my view. Given that they hid and funded Bin Laden this whole time, I think Pakistan owes ALL THE AID BACK and the US should utterly remove its nuclear capability, since no nation that is not capable of developing the technology itself is likely able to handle it.

    • Hell hath no fury like that of the thwarted muslim male given a kick in the financial cojones.
I expect them to become rather nasty in the near future. Ho hum!

    • Always happens to socialized medicine as the government always refuse to pay the true costs of using doctors. A GP who bulk bills always through personal ethics will receive 25-35% of the income of a bulk billing specialist and work far longer hours. If she refuses to bulk bill and charges she will earn 20-25% of the non bulk billing specialists who can charge what they like as politicians are scared stiff of upsetting specialist colleges(as they may need them) . In a state with only socialized medicine those who are good and refuse to work for the pittance paid, move overseas and you are left with the rubbish and the soon overwhelmed and young dying altruistic ones. It is strange but I am yet to see a blatant leftist medico work hard but the Christian ones still do. until they die, that is. A suitable system has elements of both and fair pay unlike working 60 hours non stop for 60$ before tax(I kid you not). 10% of GPs go bankrupt. The old adage that you get what you pay for applies to healthcare like all else.

We read about this happening in Canada over a year ago. Now it’s in the US.
When I was raising my children story time at the library was a fun, healthy way to introduce the little ones to sitting and paying attention for a short period of time in a group.
    Now it is perversion indoctrination…
When I think of all the things little children need to learn each and every day, men dressing up as women is not one of them.

  2. ‘Strange disappearance’ of WikiLeaks consultant in Norway

WikiLeaks has raised concern after Arjen Kamphuis, an associate of founder Julian Assange, went missing in Norway. The cybersecurity expert was last seen in northern Norway on August 20.

The internet transparency entity WikiLeaks tweeted on Sunday about Arjen Kamphuis’ “strange disappearance,” saying he has been missing since August 20, when he left his hotel in the northern Norwegian town of Bodo.

WikiLeaks said that Kamphuis, an associate of founder Julian Assange, had a ticket for a flight departing on August 22 from Trondheim, which is over 700 kilometers (435 miles) south of Bodo.

“The train between the two takes (approximately) 10 hours,” suggesting he disappeared either in Bodo, Trondheim or on the train, WikiLeaks said.

  3. Far-right poised for big wins in Sweden election

    STOCKHOLM (AFP) –

The anti-immigration far-right is expected to soar in Sweden’s September 9 general election, capitalising on voter discontent as Swedes punish traditional parties over immigration, integration and health care.

Prime Minister Stefan Lofven’s Social Democrats, who have dominated Swedish politics since the 1930s, will remain the biggest party in the country but likely with a record low score, polls suggest.

The far-right Sweden Democrats (SD) are heading to make the most gains and come in a close second, followed by the conservative Moderates.

  4. Swedes enjoy world-class healthcare – when they get it

Asia Nader didn’t know whether to worry more about being diagnosed with a hole in her heart at the age of 21, or having to wait a year for Swedish doctors to fix it.

“I completely fell apart when I found out,” she told AFP, remembering the long agonising months until she finally had her operation in June this year, one month before her 23rd birthday.

Sweden has the fifth-highest life expectancy in Europe and cancer survival rates are among the continent’s highest, according to 2017 OECD figures.

But Swedes are frustrated over their universal healthcare, one of the main pillars of their cherished welfare state, with long waiting queues due to a shortage of nurses and available doctors in some areas.

“Swedes have little confidence that politicians will solve this,” said Lisa Pelling, chief analyst at progressive think tank Arena Ide.

“There is a risk their faith in the welfare state will be eroded,” she told AFP.

Swedes, who on average pay more than half of their income in tax, see access to healthcare as the most important issue in the September 9 general election, polls suggest.

  5. Big Tech’s double trouble: political heat from Trump and the left may signal reckoning ahead

Trump’s timing of attacks on Google, Facebook and Twitter could not have been better, as the three come under scrutiny in hearings

Trump and Russia may have dominated the political discourse all summer, but last week the attention turned again to America’s internet technology giants. They had enjoyed a few months out of the spotlight following grueling congressional hearings in Washington late last year, after evidence emerged of Russia’s use of social media fake accounts to try to influence voters in the 2016 US presidential election.

But that respite ended last week after a tweet from Donald Trump that electrified the news agenda from Silicon Valley to the capital when, seemingly out of the blue – he posted a bizarre tweet. “Google search results for ‘Trump News’ shows only the viewing/reporting of Fake News Media. In other words, they have it RIGGED, for me & others, so that almost all stories & news is BAD,” he tweeted. Trump went on to allege that Google was censoring right-wing voices and privileging voices from the left.

  6. McCarthy leads GOP charge against Silicon Valley

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy is leading the charge against President Trump’s new favorite punching bag: big tech.

The California Republican, who hopes to replace Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) next year, has been aggressively promoting a campaign to “stop the bias,” referring to what critics say is a pattern of discrimination against conservative voices on social media.

To that end, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is scheduled to testify on Capitol Hill this week at a hearing requested by McCarthy.

“I’ve had many conversations with the president about how we have to stop this bias,” McCarthy, one of Trump’s closest allies on Capitol Hill, told Fox News on Thursday.

“I’ve spoken to Jack Dorsey throughout the month,” McCarthy added. “He and I philosophically disagree, but we do agree on one thing: We believe in the First Amendment. But we also believe in transparency and accountability.”

  7. World Court weighs Britain’s claim to Chagos Islands in Indian Ocean

THE HAGUE (Reuters) – The legality of Britain’s claim to the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean, which house a major U.S. military base, will be considered by the International Court of Justice on Monday when it starts a week of hearings.

Britain has overseen the islands since 1814 and in 1965 detached the Chagos Islands from Mauritius, a British colony that became independent three years later.

Britain went on to lease the Chagos Islands’ biggest island, Diego Garcia, to the United States in 1966, paving the way for construction of an air base that required the forced removal of around 1,500 people.

Mauritius has said it was unfairly pressured to cede control of the islands during the negotiations, and had agreed only to their temporary use for military purposes.

Mauritius petitioned the United Nations for an International Court of Justice opinion on the legality of Britain’s possession of Chagos.

Britain and the United States opposed the demand, but were voted down by the U.N. general assembly. Britain is expected to argue that Mauritius is trying to improperly use the International Court of Justice or “World Court” to settle a bilateral dispute.

  8. The ugly resurgence of global anti-Semitism
By Hans Bader September 2, 2018

eremy Corbyn, the leader of England’s Labour Party, has a good chance of being England’s next Prime Minister, despite being an anti-Semite and a defender of foreign dictatorships. He has defended the dictatorial communist regimes in Cuba and Venezuela — especially the regime in Venezuela, which has presided over the economic collapse of that country, despite oil prices being higher than they were in 1999 when the left took power in that country.

Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro has presided over widespread malnutrition, torture, and disappearances, that have driven over two million Venezuelans to flee the country. As “Venezuela collapses, children are dying of hunger,” noted the New York Times. As El Pais reports, “The majority” of Venezuelans “have lost weight and are going to bed hungry. Around 64.3% of people surveyed said they had lost 11 kilograms [24 pounds] in 2017. ”

Yet, notes The Spectator, “In 2014, Jeremy Corbyn rang President Maduro live on a Venezuelan television channel to congratulate him.” Richard Burgon, Corbyn’s choice for Justice Minister if Labour retakes control of England, exulted in the sham election in which Nicolas Maduro was “elected as President of Venezuela,” calling it a “victory” for the country’s laborers, some of whom have since died of malnutrition. This has had seemingly no effect on Corbyn’s popularity’s. As Bloomberg News notes, Corbyn’s Labour Party leads England’s governing Conservative Party in opinion polls. If an election were held today, Corbyn would become Prime Minister.

  9. LA Times inadvertently admits Trump is right about what’s causing California’s wildfires
By Daily Caller News Foundation September 2, 2018

Adopting more active forest management policies such as increased thinning of trees and conducting controlled burns will help mitigate damage from future wildfires, the Los Angeles Times editorial board writes.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke began advocating similar policy prescriptions earlier in 2018 after President Donald Trump blamed California’s “bad environmental laws” for creating a wildfire-prone environment. (RELATED: Trump Administration Is Taking Its Fight Against ‘Bad Environmental Laws’ Straight To California)

California forests have grown drier and less healthy from overcrowded trees, infestations of bark beetles and the effects of climate change, the Times writes. California’s restrictions on active forest management have contributed to the poor and worsening conditions of the forests, allowing them to grow uninhibited while suppressing fires that would normally naturally control the forests’ growth.

“Fire is not necessarily bad for forests. California used to burn with regularity, and low-intensity fires are vital in some ecosystems to clear excess brush and small trees from the landscape,” the editorial board writes. “But there’s been a change in fire behavior over the last century, as the state and federal government began dousing the blazes. Decades of fire suppression have allowed forests to grow dense with trees.”

  11. Federal judge denies states’ request to end DACA, even though he admits it’s illegal
By Daily Caller News Foundation September 2, 2018

A federal judge in Texas announced Friday that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program can continue to accept applications and operate as written despite its likely violating federal law.

U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen rejected the request by seven states to issue an injunction and promptly discontinue the DACA program. Hanen asserted that while he understands the program is presumably unlawful and will ultimately be struck down if challenged in his own court, he kept DACA in place as the appeal continues, reported CNN.

“Here, the egg has been scrambled,” Hanen wrote. “To try to put it back in the shell with only a preliminary injunction record, and perhaps at great risk to many, does not make sense nor serve the best interest of this country.”

The states – Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, South Carolina, Texas, and West Virginia – filed the lawsuit arguing that DACA could be established only by the legislative branch. Since President Barack Obama circumvented Congress in creating the program, it is unconstitutional, according to The Washington Post.

    https://www.rt.com/business/437481-erdogan-denounces-us-dollar/

“Turkey will pursue non-dollar transactions in trade and investment with other countries, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in response to US sanctions. He compared the US’ behavior towards his country to “wild wolves.”

“We need to gradually end the monopoly of the dollar once and for all by using local and national currency among us,” Erdogan said at a business forum in Kyrgyzstan.

According to the Turkish president, a dollar-linked system which was designed to simplify global trade has turned into a major problem. The purpose of manipulating currency rates is to cast doubt on the strong and healthy Turkish economy, Erdogan said.

“America behaves like wild wolves. Don’t believe them,” Erdogan said. “Using the dollar only damages us. We will not give up. We will be victorious.”

Turkey is currently struggling with a severe currency crisis triggered by escalating US sanctions. The lira has lost around 42 percent of its value against the US dollar this year as a result of a diplomatic row between Ankara and Washington.

Data from the Turkish Statistical Institute showed the country’s inflation rate climbed to almost 18 percent last month. Consumer prices increased 17.9 percent in August from the same month in 2017…”

  13. Racism or valid criticism of a broken system? Anti-immigration sentiment grips Sweden (RT, Sep 3, 2018)
    https://www.rt.com/news/437469-swedish-immigration-system-broken/

“Anti-immigration sentiment may prove to be the defining factor in the upcoming general election in Sweden. RT explores why some Swedes believe their country’s system of dealing with migrants is broken.

Sweden has long considered itself one of Europe’s most tolerant nations. When, three years ago, Europe was hit with a refugee crisis in which over a million undocumented immigrants arrived on the continent from the Middle East and Northern Africa, Sweden’s share of arrivals was the highest per capita.

Now hostile sentiments towards immigrants are increasingly gripping parts of Swedish society. Swedes will elect their lawmakers on Sunday. Polls show that Sweden Democrats – a party that advocates a freeze on asylum seekers, stronger policing, tougher punishment of crime, and similar policies – may score the second-largest share of seats in parliament.

Some say a radical change in the country’s immigration system is necessary to preserve Sweden’s national identity. Critics call this position xenophobic and racist. Even some asylum seekers, who receive benefits paid for by taxpayers, say the system is failing them, as RT’s Maria Finoshina found out. Watch the report to find out more.”

    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201809031067705807-migrant-knife-murderer-sentenced-in-germany/

“The verdict comes amid growing anti-immigration sentiments in Germany, including weeklong protests in the city of Chemnitz following the knifing murder of a German man of Cuban origin by alleged Middle Eastern migrants.

A juvenile court in the town of Landau, western Germany, handed down its verdict Monday in the case involving the asylum seeker, identified as one Abdul D, who claims to be a minor from Afghanistan. The defendant has confessed to stabbing his 15-year-old German girlfriend, Mia V. to death on December 27, 2017 with a kitchen knife at a drugstore in Kandel, a small town on the French-German border. He has confessed to the crime.

Prosecutors believe the defendant acted out of jealousy after the girl broke up with him, pointing to her and her parents’ appeals to police over his harassment and threats. Authorities have also raised doubts about his age at the time of the crime, and his nationality.

Abdul D claimed he was 15 at the time of the crime, but a medical assessment by the prosecutor’s office said it was likely that he was between 17 and 20 years old.

Disregarding this assessment, the court proceedings were held under juvenile penal system rules, which hands out a maximum penalty of 10 years for murder…”

“The UK army’s Foxhound armored vehicles in Afghanistan give out roughly once a week because of overheating, the UK Times newspaper reported.

The risk to the soldiers is increased if they have to get out of the car, the UK Times newspaper reported, citing Major Andy Brown of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

  17. UK TERROR WARNING: Fears mount over new ‘MANCHESTER-STYLE ATTACK’ – MOD on alert (express, Sep 3, 2018)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1012327/UK-terror-warning-Islamic-State-Manchester-attack-terrorist-attack

“FEARS are mounting over a new “Manchester-style attack” – after the defence secretary warned about links between UK terror cells and Islamic State fighters regrouping in Afghanistan.

Although Islamic State is being largely forced out of Iraq and Syria, fighters have been moving in large numbers over to Afghanistan.

Gavin Williamson’s comments, made during a visit to British troops in Afghanistan, have now marked the first time that the government acknowledged threats posed by links between the emerging threat in that country and terror cells in the UK.

He said: “What we see is a real threat posed by these groups to the UK and we’ve got to be acting as we are to ensure that we do not see future Manchester-style attacks.

“We consistently see terrorist groups operating here in Afghanistan, [and] evidence of their links back not just to the United Kingdom but to the whole of continental Europe.”

Thousands of foreign fighters are thought to have arrived in Afghanistan from Iraq and Syria. The Islamic State group they have formed is known as IS-Khorasan or IS-K.

It is viewed as a rival to the Taliban and al Qaeda and has been targeted by US and British special forces.

One of its leaders, Abu Saad Erhabi, was killed in a US airstrike a week ago.

Intelligence reports are said to indicate a “real threat” to Britain from such Afghan-based militants.

Mr Williamson said there had been “countless times when there have been links back to the UK from terrorists in Afghanistan”.

It comes after ministers were urged in June to toughen-up terror laws, after it was revealed in Parliament that almost 400 British jihadi fighters had returned home.

Just 40 of these had reportedly been prosecuted for “direct action they’ve carried out in Syria”.

Barrow and Furness MP John Woodcock, who had pressed for the figures, reportedly told the Commons: “So, only one tenth of people have been successfully prosecuted.

“That does not mean the others are innocent of terrorism charges, if they have been over to Iraq and Syria, if they have been aiding Daesh in whatever form and they are British citizens, they have been aiding enemies of the British state.””

The Tory MP revealed the threat in an interview with Sky News from Afghanistan’s northern city of Mazeer-i-Shareef.

“What we see is a real threat posed by these groups to the UK and we’ve got to be acting as we are to ensure that we do not see future Manchester-style attacks,” Williamson told Sky’s correspondent.

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/11-killed-suspected-communal-violence-central-nigeria-57573774

“Nigerian police say gunmen shot dead 11 people in an attack in central Nigeria suspected to be part of a series of communal violent incidents.

Police spokesman in Plateau state Terna Tyopev said in a press statement that the incident occurred late Sunday in Lopandet Dwei Du village just outside Jos, the capital of Plateau state.

He added that 11 more people were wounded and are now in hospital.

The attack comes a week after suspected herdsmen from the Fulani ethnic group killed eight people including a pastor and his wife in a village near Jos.

Plateau and other parts of central Nigeria have witnessed a spate of killings in recent months as herdsmen in search of grazing land and water for their cattle attack villages inhabited by farmers.

On June 23, more than 100 people were killed when herdsmen carried out simultaneous attacks on several villages in the Barkin Ladi area of Plateau state.

The growing conflict between the mainly Muslim herdsmen and the Christian farming communities further heighten ethnic and religious tensions ahead of Nigeria’s general elections scheduled for early next year.

The International Crisis Group, a non-governmental organization working to prevent war, said in a report released recently, that the violence between the herders and farmers has claimed six times more lives than Nigeria’s Boko Haram insurgency.”

“German authorities say that an Afghan man suspected in the stabbing of two American tourists at Amsterdam’s main railway had applied for asylum in Germany and was not considered a security threat.

German Interior Ministry spokesman Harald Neymanns on Monday confirmed that the suspect, a 19-year-old man identified under Dutch privacy rules only as Jawed S., is registered as an asylum seeker in Germany.

Neymanns says German federal police have no information that the suspect was considered a threat to security or even as a person of interest.

Authorities have said that based on his initial comments the man had a “terrorist motive.”

The suspect is due to appear before an investigating judge later Monday at a hearing in the hospital where he is recovering after being shot by police.”

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – A man who stabbed two American tourists at Amsterdam’s central station last week says he chose his victims at random and was motivated by perceived insults to Islam in the Netherlands, Dutch prosecutors said on Monday.

The man, identified by RTL Nieuws as Jawed S., is a 19-year-old Afghan with residency in Germany, who traveled to Amsterdam to carry out an attack because of what he thought were repeated insults to God, the Koran and Islam’s Prophet Mohammad, prosecutors said in a statement.

The man mentioned the name of lawmaker Geert Wilders, but not the cartoon contest Wilders had planned to hold mocking Mohammad, which the politician cancelled last week due to security concerns.

SKY NEWS – Double stabbing in Amsterdam sparked by ‘insults to Islam’, Dutch prosecutors say

A teenage suspect is said to have mentioned the anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders under police questioning in the Netherlands.

A teenager accused of stabbing two US tourists in Amsterdam has said the attack was sparked by insults to Islam, according to Dutch prosecutors.

The 19-year-old Afghan, identified only as Jawed S, lives in Germany but allegedly travelled to the Netherlands and carried out the attack on Friday.

Prosecutors have said the suspect had a “terrorist motive”.

They added that the teenager mentioned the Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders during police questioning, but not a cartoon contest the far-right populist planned to hold mocking the Prophet Mohammed.

Mr Wilders cancelled the contest amid security concerns.

Prosecutors said in a statement: “He named Wilders, but did not say anything about the cartoon competition.”

It added: “Up to now there is no evidence the suspect worked with others.”

Prosecutors allege he carried out an attack because of what he said were repeated insults to Allah, the Koran and the Prophet Mohammed.

The 19-year-old appeared before a judge in a private hearing in the Netherlands on Monday, where it was ordered that he remains in custody.

The teenager is scheduled to appear again in two weeks and will be held under maximum security, which means he will only be allowed visits by his lawyer.

Two US men, both 38, were seriously injured when they were attacked by a knife-wielding man at Amsterdam’s busy Centraal Station.

Police quickly reacted and shot the man in the lower body.

The suspect and the two injured tourists were taken to hospital.

The US State Department on Sunday condemned what it called an “unprovoked, horrifying attack” and offered full support to Dutch authorities, both in the investigation and “in our common fight against terrorism in all forms”.

Both of the wounded Americans remained in a “satisfactory condition” on Monday, Dutch news reports said.

German police on Saturday raided the suspect’s home, which newspapers said was located in the western Rhineland-Palatinate state.

A German foreign ministry official Monday confirmed that the suspect is an asylum seeker who was appealing a decision to reject his claim.

Police in the country had no information linking the alleged attacker to any terror groups or that he was regarded as dangerous, the official said.

Thousands of commuters and tourists were evacuated from the rail terminus after Friday’s attack.

  20. DEUTSCHE WELLE – Germany: Refugee sentenced to 8 years and 6 months for teen murder

An asylum-seeker, thought to be from Afghanistan, has been given an 8 1/2-year prison sentence for the murder of a teenage German girl. The case has fueled debate on asylum policy in Germany.

A court in the southwestern German city of Landau on Monday sentenced asylum-seeker Abdul D. to eight years and six months in prison for the murder of a teenage girl in the town of Kandel in December last year.

The murder had been seized upon by many opponents of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s refugee policy to support their anti-immigration stance. The case has received great media attention in Germany, and many reporters were present outside the court as the verdict was announced.

Abdul D.’s lawyer, Maximilian Ender, told reporters that he thought the court’s decision was correct and that his client had “accepted” the sentence.

After following the course of events surrounding the murder, Martin Müller, a 53-year-old from Offenbach, showed up outside of the court to protest the verdict.

He told DW that he “spontaneously” decided to come to the courthouse after hearing about the verdict on the radio.

“As a concerned citizen, you thought about what would be an appropriate sentence for this crime and these 8.5 years are clearly not enough,” he said.

Another passer-by, Christoph Hückstädt, 23, also told DW that he was disappointed with the sentence.

“I don’t think it’s right,” Hückstädt said. “He should have gotten 10 years. It was murder.”

    Suspect motivated by jealousy

Fifteen-year-old Mia V. was stabbed to death in a drugstore by her ex-boyfriend Abdul D., believed to be from Afghanistan. The teen was stabbed seven times with a kitchen knife that had a 20-centimeter (7.9-inch) blade.

According to prosecutors, the two dated for several months until Mia V. ended the relationship in early December. After the breakup, both she and her parents went to the police about Abdul D.’s harassing and threatening behavior. Prosecutors believe he acted out of jealousy and was seeking revenge for the breakup.

Abdul D. entered Germany in the spring of 2016 and was registered as an unaccompanied minor. He first lived in a juvenile care institution in the Germersheim district in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. He was later transferred to a supervised living group in the town of Neustadt and attended school in Kandel, where he met Mia V.

As authorities believe Abdul D. was underage at the time of the attack, he was tried as a minor. The maximum penalty for murder under German juvenile law is 10 years.

However, prosecutors have cast doubt over Abdul D.’s age. Although he says he was 15 years old when the stabbing occurred, an expert medical assessment ordered by the public prosecutor’s office said that he is likely between 17 to 20 years old. Abdul D.’s lawyer has denied that the boy is older than 20.

    Months of protests over murder

The case sparked several months of anti-immigrant and counterprotests in Kandel, a small town near the French border. The population of around 9,000 has been regularly swelled since January as demonstrators from leftist and right-wing groups have descended on the town.

Hundreds of people took part in a right-wing protest on Saturday by the “Kandel Women’s Alliance” — which was organized by a man. Dozens of counterprotesters from leftist antifa groups as well as local residents were also present.

The focus of the right-wing protests has shifted away from Mia V.’s death. They have become platforms for anti-refugee AND ANTI-ISLAM SENTIMENTS with demonstrators blaming the media and German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government.

Local residents with the “We are Kandel” group accuse the right-wing demonstrators of instrumentalizing Mia V.’s death and misrepresenting their town.

In a similar case, the eastern German city of Chemnitz saw days of violent right-wing protests after a German man was stabbed to death last Sunday, with a Syrian and an Iraqi man currently in police custody over the death.

    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/09/03/hungary-macrons-migrant-blackmail-plans-endanger-unity-european-union/

“Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has condemned the Macron-led proposals to tie EU funding to “solidarity” with its progressive immigration policies, as the bloc gears up for European Parliament elections in 2019 set to be defined by the battle over migration.

Hungary’s chief diplomat Péter Szijjártó told the Austrian daily Die Presse that his country has rejected threats from Paris to stop European Union funding to members who fail to show “solidarity” over the forced redistribution of migrants.

“This is blackmail, we are sick of it,” the foreign minister said on Saturday, and defended Hungary’s record for showing real solidarity by enacting strict border controls to protect Europe, preventing hundreds of thousands more migrants from flooding into the continent.

Rather than forcing the EU closer together through blackmail, the senior Hungarian sees it as threatening to tear it apart, saying that “Those [European leaders], however, who similarly to the French President would like to make the payment of cohesion funding dependent on subjective conditions are endangering the unity of the European Union….”

“Iran Interior Minister Rahmani-Fazli wants European Union member states to fund the economic, social and political costs he claims Afghan refugees impose on the Shiite country.

The semi-official MEHR newsagency reports Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli made the call Sunday in a meeting with visiting United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.

The Iranian minister said minor international aid cannot cover the whole expenses of refugees currently hosted by Iran – the country shares a border with Afghanistan – and it is incumbent of the EU to lift its funding.

Iran is home to around three million legal and illegal Afghan refugees, Rahmani-Fazli claimed. Each year, the country identifies 7,000 illegal Afghan refugees and returns them to their own homeland, Rahmani-Fazli added.

It is only reasonable that other countries, including European ones, take up hosting these refugees for a few years, he said…”

    • Secret Oil Shipments Could Help Iran Cushion U.S. Sanctions Blow

Discounts, bartering and smuggling are among the tactics Iran may lean on to keep its oil exports flowing after U.S. sanctions resume in November. Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh alluded to this toolbox, which was used in the past, when he said Iran will find “other ways” to keep its crude in the market. Iran’s oil exports have already slumped to the lowest level since March 2016.

Almost 200,000 barrels a day of the country’s post-sanctions oil sales could be undisclosed, according to Robin Mills, chief executive officer of consultancy Qamar Energy in Dubai. “Barter trade and special funding mechanisms are among ways that could allow payments to Iran to continue within the framework of the sanctions,” said Ehsan Khoman at the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group.

  23. Swiss Study Reveals Immigration Produces Long Term Economic Harm (breitbart, Sep 3, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/09/03/swiss-study-reveals-immigration-produces-long-term-economic-harm/

“A study from the University of Basel has concluded that while immigration may have short-term economic benefits for Western nations, in the long term it could heavily strain a country’s welfare system.

The study examined the long-term effect of mass migration and concluded that while new migrant households in Switzerland pay around 729 francs per household per month more in taxes than they receive in benefits, that number becomes a 405 francs loss in the long term, Kronen Zeitung reports.

The driving factor behind the long-term loss is that migrants, like native Swiss, age and often pay less overall in taxes before retirement. Another factor is higher unemployment rates among migrants, which is twice as high as native Swiss or foreign EU nationals and four times as high for migrants from outside of the European political bloc.

Just over 70 percent of unemployment insurance money comes from native Swiss taxpayers, but they only take out 55 percent of the total unemployment benefits.

In some countries, the unemployment rate is even higher for migrants and those from migrant backgrounds. Recently released figures from Sweden showed that while native Swedes had a very low unemployment rate of 3.6 percent, migrants and residents from migrant backgrounds had a rate of 19.9 percent.

One of Germany’s top economists Hans-Werner Sinn has also warned Germany and other countries that many low-skilled migrants are attracted by generous welfare state programmes, as opposed to the high-skilled workers often demanded by governments.

In 2015, Mr Sinn and the Ifo Institute recommended the German government raise the retirement age in order to help pay for the migrants flooding into the country at the height of the migrant crisis.

Such a policy was announced by Sweden in December of last year when Swedish Socialist party Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson said the retirement age would likely have to be raised to pay for new migrants.

Municipalities across the country may also have to raise taxes to pay for new migrants, according to a report from the Swedish National Institute of Economic Research from March of this year.”

    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20180903-egyptian-media-john-mccain-is-real-supreme-guide-of-the-muslim-brotherhood/

“Egyptian media has accused the late US senator and presidential nominee John McCain of being the ‘Godfather’, ‘leader’, and ‘real Supreme Guide’ of the Muslim Brotherhood organisation.

In remarks, he made during a talk show aired on Sada El-Balad TV, the Egyptian media personality and TV host Ahmed Moussa claimed that McCain, recognised in the US as a national war hero and longtime senator, was, in fact, the ‘real Supreme Guide’ of the Muslim Brotherhood.

“John McCain is the real Supreme Guide of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood, not Badee and not Akef,” Moussa said.

“Today was John McCain’s funeral, which the leaders of the criminal Brotherhood in America have taken part in,” he continued, “ and they performed the Absentee funeral prayer for John McCain in Qatar, Turkey, USA, and Britain. ”

“[McCain] was the main supporter for the terrorist Brotherhood,” he added. “Senator McCain was the one who opened up the Congress to the Brotherhood. He was the one arranging the meetings and appointments and providing them with protection.”

The American politician and Vietnam veteran died on 25 August, aged 81, from the effects of brain cancer and was buried at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland after a small private ceremony.

US President Donald Trump ordered the White House flag to be re-lowered in recognition of McCain’s record and service to the country, following outrage at the raising of the flag for only two days of national mourning.

Moussa said that McCain was “a stronger ally” to the Muslim Brotherhood than Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Tamim is just for the money, they have no problem getting rid of him in the morning if they found another financial backer. Erdogan just to strengthen them, nothing much, but John McCain was the one raising them above. He had opened doors for them….”

‘This may not please Ankara,’ says Markus Kerber.

Germany will tighten control over foreign influence of its Muslim community, State Secretary for the Interior Ministry Markus Kerber said Monday, after a week of violent far-right clashes in eastern Germany.

“We have watched foreign forces dictate to German Muslims how to practice their religion for far too long,” Kerber told Tagesspiegel in an interview published Monday. “And because they also have their home here, we will now lend them more support in strengthening their self-confidence.”

“We want to create more discussion formats for German Muslims,” Kerber added. “The minister will also actively encourage German Muslims to conduct a debate on a German Islam.”

According to Kerber, that debate will take place within the so-called Islamkonferenz, which Kerber set up as the interior ministry’s head of policy under Wolfgang Schäuble between 2006-2009 as a “forum for dialogue” on the relationship between Islam and the state.

Kerber responded to Interior Minister Horst Seehofer’s controversial claim earlier this year that Islam “doesn’t belong in Germany” by saying: “If there is to be an Islam that belongs to Germany, German Muslims must define it as ‘German Islam.’”

His latest comments come ahead of an official state visit from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an.

Relations with Turkey — an important strategic partner for Berlin, including on managing migration — remain fraught. Footballer Mesut Özil, who was born in Germany to Turkish parents, quitting Germany’s national team, sparked a debate on integration — a number of German-born children of immigrants, many of whom are Turkish, took to social media to share stories of racist behavior under the hashtag #metwo.

“We want to help Muslims in Germany to find their own religiousness,” Kerber said. “This may not please Ankara and will lead to conflicts. But we’ll hold out.”

  26. urkey Creating New Tensions with Greece and the US

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12946/turkey-greece-tensions

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s June 24 re-election seems to be leading to heightened tensions between Turkey and Greece. Furthermore, in an eventual confrontation between these two NATO member states, Turkey’s reported interest in purchasing air-defense missiles and fighter jets from Russia, underscored by Turkey’s continued detention of American Christian Pastor Andrew Brunson and the U.S. imposition of sanctions on Turkish officials (as well as Turkish counter-sanctions), may well cause Washington to favor Greece.

In addition, prior to June 24, the Turkish parliament, and the Turkish people by referendum, awarded the presidency with nearly authoritarian power. Erdogan may now use these powers to strengthen even further his control of Turkey’s domestic political order — and to become more aggressive internationally as a result.

Erdogan’s margin of victory in the June 24 election was slim. Despite his hold over the Turkish media, Erdogan garnered but a slim majority of 52% in the election. Erdogan, possibly to increase his domestic political support, might continue taking an aggressive posture toward Greece. Erdogan could, for instance, demand that Athens renegotiate the status of Greek islands in the Aegean Sea, which were awarded to Greece in the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne.

On August 5, Britain’s former Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, published an article in The Daily Telegraph. Entitled “Denmark has got it wrong. Yes, the burka is oppressive and ridiculous – but that’s still no reason to ban it”, the article created a furore both within and outside his own Tory party, and for more than one reason.

Johnson is currently the strongest candidate to replace Theresa May as Prime Minister, given her increasing weakness as a leader, largely due to the problems surrounding Brexit and her inability to create a suitable deal for it. This is relevant to the furore. Johnson is an ambitious politician who is given to making controversial comments.

Despite his popularity in some circles, Johnson has his enemies, and not just within Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party (where the slightest hint of what is called Islamophobia must at all costs be condemned). It is regrettable then, that his careless remarks on women in niqabs and burqas resembling letterboxes or looking like bank robbers brought down the wrath of the politically correct and ended by ignoring the far more constructive statements in the article as a whole.

I never thought that far-right, Dutch firebrand politician Geert Wilders would cave in to pressure or that I would have to write a defense of blasphemy.

Wilders initiated a cartoon drawing contest of the Prophet Mohammad slated for November in the Dutch Parliament. After the news leaked, there were huge protests in Pakistan with 10,000 opponents calling for canceling diplomatic ties with the Netherlands and the expulsion of the Dutch ambassador.

Imran Khan, the new prime minister of Pakistan, vowed to raise the issue at the U.N. with the cooperation of the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation).

Social media is rife with Muslims calling for the deaths of Wilders and the cartoonists.

Wilders eventually cancelled the contest “to avoid risk of victims of Islamic violence.”

Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi called this “a great moral victory for the Muslim Ummah.”

    But is it a victory?

“Two-thirds of Germans believe the country has become a worse place to live since Angela Merkel opened its borders and triggered the migrant crisis in 2015, with just 17 percent saying the subsequent changes have been for the better.

Some 66 percent of voters believe the country has gone downhill since the mass migration influx according to a new Enmid poll, conducted by Bild on Sunday in the wake of protests over the murders of Germans by refugees and asylum seekers.

Over four-fifths of respondents told the pollster that the social and political climate has become “significantly” more unpleasant since the Chancellor declared Germany open to the over one million who have settled in the country since, with just 11 percent saying they disagreed with the assessment.
