  1. According to The Australian, as part of a four-hour closed-door meeting with Ms Brown, the top exec for the social media giant said: “We will help you revitalise journalism … in a few years the reverse looks like I’ll be holding your hands with your dying business like in a hospice.”

Five sources present at the meeting confirmed the comments.

She was also reported to have said: “Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t care about publishers but is giving me a lot of leeway and concessions to make these changes”.

She added: ““We are not interested in talking to you about your traffic and referrals anymore. That is the old world and there is no going back – Mark wouldn’t agree to this.”

Speaking on Wednesday to Sky News, Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said “there may well be a case” for making parts of Westminster pedestrian-only.

“We’ve got to do that carefully. We shouldn’t just take an on-the-hoof response to what was a very disturbing incident,” Grayling told Sky News.

  4. Italian far left extremists have taken credit for the bombing of an office of the populist Lega party, with police finding and disarming a second explosive device.
The office, located in the city of Treviso near Venice, was targetted by a rudimentary explosive device on Sunday which did some damage to the door at the entrance of the building but failed to harm anyone, Corriere Della Sera reports.

A second bomb was found at the scene by authorities following the first explosion. The second device is believed to have been intended as the main explosion, the first being used to attract authorities and others into the area to be harmed by a second blast containing nails and other metal fragments.

In reaction to the bombing, Lega leader and current Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini commented, “They try to stop us, but violent delinquents do not scare us. Let’s go forward, stronger than before.”

  6. Trump Ends Obama’s Stand Down Order on Cyberattacks
    August 16, 2018
    Daniel Greenfield

The media left keeps screaming that Trump needs to do something about the Russian attacks. But ask them, “What?” Beyond words. And they break down into outraged mumbling.

Obama Inc. actually issued a stand down order on the attacks.

Former President Barack Obama’s cybersecurity czar confirmed Wednesday that former national security adviser Susan Rice told him to “stand down” in response to Russian cyber attacks during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Michael Daniel, whose official title was “cybersecurity coordinator,” confirmed the stand-down order during a Senate Select Committee on Intelligence hearing held to review the Obama and President Donald Trump’s administrations’ policy response to Russian election interference.

That’s not Obama’s only stand down order. There was a legion of them. And there were rules of engagement on cyberwarfare, just as there were when American soldiers were being murdered by the Taliban.

  8. “PLEASE SHARE! Trevor Loudon releases videos exposing security risks in Congress” by renee cal – August 15, 2018

New Zealand author, speaker and filmmaker Trevor Loudon is unveiling a powerful new project that will expose subversive elected officials using short 90-to-120 seconds-long documentaries to be released on Thursdays at 8:00 PM eastern time starting on August 16, 2018 at TrevorLoudon.com.

The U.S. Congress has a serious internal security problem.

New Zealand author, speaker, and filmmaker Trevor Loudon is unveiling a powerful new project that will expose subversive elected officials using short 90-to-120 seconds-long documentaries to be released on Thursdays at 8:00 PM eastern time starting on August 16, 2018, at TrevorLoudon.com.

Many Americans would be shocked to know that members of Congress are not required to undergo a security clearance, even to serve on sensitive congressional committees such as the Intelligence Committee, the Armed Services Committee, and the Foreign Affairs Committee.

The first mini-documentaries to be released will feature Indiana’s 7th District Representative Andre Carson, who serves on the House Intelligence Committee and Connecticut’s 3rd District Representative Rosa DeLauro, the co-chair of the House Democratic Steering Committee. In the weeks to come, Trevor will release mini-docs on Senators Tim Kaine and Chris Murphy, Representative Keith Ellison and more.

The Hillary Clinton email scandal, constant leaks from both sides of the House, the Pakistani Awad brothers’ infiltration of Democratic congressional computers, and the Chinese spy who worked for decades for Senator Dianne Feinstein are just some indicators that U.S. internal security is heavily compromised.

Every week on Thursday at 8:00 pm eastern time until the mid-term elections and beyond, Trevor Loudon will be releasing new mini-documentaries exposing the enemies within America’s highest elected offices at TrevorLoudon.com.

  9. The Billion Dollar Homeless Scam
The more we spend, the worse it gets.
    August 16, 2018
    Daniel Greenfield

New York City will be spending $2.06 billion on its Department of Homeless Services. There are 61,421 homeless people in the city which is spending $33,539 per homeless person.

That’s only a little short of the starting salary of an FDNY firefighter at $39,000.

More money will be spent on the homeless than on the firefighters who save New Yorkers from burning buildings. The FDNY will have to make do with $2.04 billion, and the health department with $1.6 billion.

That’s impressive for DHS, a department that was only created in 1993 by the disgraced Dinkins administration and is now burning through more cash than agencies fulfilling actual vital city functions.

Two years ago, DHS had over 2,600 employees. That’s 1 employee to every 23 homeless people. Meanwhile 234 New Yorkers get only 1 police officer to serve and protect them from criminals.

  11. Tencent, the Chinese Internet Giant, Stumbles. Beijing Gets the Blame

SHANGHAI — Its chat app has inspired Silicon Valley. It owns some of the biggest video game franchises in the world. And after years of growth it has become one of the largest internet companies in the world.

Yet on Wednesday, Tencent stumbled, missing earnings targets and posting a drop in profit growth for the first time in more than a decade.

As surprising as the slip up was the reason behind it: China’s government.

Bureaucratic reshuffling at the top levels of China’s government made it difficult for the company to get the licensing required to make money on new games, Tencent’s president, Martin Lau, explained on an earnings call. In a separate case, Chinese regulators pulled another game — Monster Hunter: World — because its content was deemed too gory.

The Parliament approved the new restriction Wednesday, fulfilling a promise that helped Prime Minister

In enacting the measures, New Zealand joins the U.K., Australia, Canada and others in trying to tackle an affordability crisis that has become a flashpoint political issue. 13. Minnesota: Muslims say they will show their power next week at Vikings stadium

The Secret Plan of Muslims to Sneak Tens of Thousands Into the U.S. Bank Stadium for a Historic “Show of Power” in Minnesota

There is a secret plan to literally sneak fifty thousand Muslims into the Minnesota Vikings US Bank Stadium.
Feast of the Sacrifice…at US Bank Stadium? Yup.
Their own words not mine: “to show our unity and power”.
What is the Islamic event about?
Well it’s called EID AL ADHA – Feast of the Sacrifice.
About a week and a half ago we discovered this program being sponsored by some very interesting people and organizations.
Fifty thousand people – two day event on the 21st and 22nd of August at our Minnesota Vikings US Bank Stadium. That folks is tantamount to two Super Bowls back to back. We just had a Super Bowl here recently and capacity is between 60 and 65 thousand people! These folks have, in a very stealth fashion, invited 50 thousand people to be in the stadium on the 21st and 22nd – both days.
With a list of who’s who in the Islamist world in terms of Imams from Minnesota and from around the country as presenters.
    [….]
This is the first of its kind and it’s massive. And Minnesota residents Minneapolis St Paul and the surrounding area are not prepared for this.
    [….]
Call the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority at 612-332-0386 and demand, the operative word there, demand its cancellation.
    Tomorrow!!!
Come to the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority Board Meeting on Friday, August 17 at 9 am and voice your position together with other citizens.
More here. See how secretive the organizers have been about the gathering.
See also the video accompanying the story. Honestly I couldn’t watch because the ‘celebration’ is about brutally sacrificing animals. BTW, where is PETA?
Wonder where the organizers will find 50,000 celebrants?
Just have a look at the numbers Conservative Review put together yesterday. We are admitting Muslims to the US by the tens of thousands annually through a variety of LEGAL immigration programs. Expect the construction of more mosques and events like this one!

  15. Making the judiciary great again: In Trump’s first two years, he’s installed 24 appellate judges, a record
    Sullivan & DeBonis, WaPo August 16, 2018

[Ed. – A move away from judges who legislate from the bench and toward justice as the founders intended.]

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2018/08/16/making-the-judiciary-great-again-in-trumps-first-two-years-senate-has-installed-24-appellate-judges-a-record/

With little fanfare, Trump and McConnell reshape the nation’s circuit courts

As the Senate moves toward confirming Supreme Court nominee Brett M. Kavanaugh, President Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are leading a lower-key yet deeply consequential charge to remake the entire federal judiciary.

The Senate will return Wednesday from an abbreviated summer recess to confirm two more federal appeals court judges by the end of the week. That would come on top of a record-breaking string of confirmations: The Senate already has installed 24 appellate judges since Trump was sworn in, the highest number for a president’s first two years in office.

While much of the focus has been on Kavanaugh and Justice Neil M. Gorsuch, the Senate’s rapid approval of appellate judges is likely to have its own broad impact on the nation, as the 13 circuit courts will shape decisions on immigration, voting rights, abortion and the environment for generations.

  16. France: The Rise and Fall of Emmanuel Macron

    by Guy Millière
    August 16, 2018 at 5:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12850/emmanuel-macron-rise-fall

When Emmanuel Macron was elected president of France in May 2017, he was portrayed as a reformer who was going to change everything in France and beyond.

Fourteen months later, illusions are gone. The reforms carried out have been essentially cosmetic and failed to slow France’s sclerotic decline. Economic growth is close to zero: 0.2 per cent in the second quarter of 2018. Unemployment, at around 8.9%, remains high. French public spending as a percent of GDP is, at 56.4%, still the highest in Europe. The country is still frequently paralyzed by public transportation strikes. No-go zones continue to spread, and Macron himself recently admitted his helplessness by asking for a “general mobilization” of the population. Riots are frequent; large-scale public events lead to looting and arson. The night after the French team’s victory at the soccer World Cup, hundreds of thugs mingling with the crowds broke windows, vandalized banks and ATMs, destroyed street signs and torched cars.

As most economic activity in France stops in July and August, Macron might have thought he could enjoy a summer break. He could not.

Intriguingly, only when non-Muslims are in control of Jerusalem do Muslims seem to remember the city. Otherwise, as history shows, Muslims have never attached real significance to it. They never claimed Jerusalem as the capital of any country or empire. In fact, Muhammad instructed his people not to pray toward Jerusalem, as they had done previously, but to Mecca:

  19. Whistleblower makes shocking IRS, insider trading allegations

A whistleblower made this shocking allegation to me last week: the IRS was tipping off members of Congress to corporate takeovers so the elected officials could profit from insider trading.

My snitch also charged that higher-level employees of the IRS also used that information to enrich themselves.

This may sound crazy but remember: Up until a few years ago members of Congress were allowed to trade stock based on information they got while performing their public duties.

It wasn’t until 2012, during President Obama’s tenure, that the practice was banned.

But the difference between what had been going on legally until 2012 and what my whistleblower is contending is enormous.

  20. Iran is Testing Trump. It Won’t End Well for Them.

Only a couple of months after President Trump pulled the United States out of the disastrous Iran nuclear deal and only a couple of weeks after his administrations snapped economic sanctions back into place, the Islamic Republic of Iran is back to their old tricks. Having gone more than a year without test-firing any ballistic missiles, Tehran reportedly launched a Fateh-110 short-range missile in a 100-mile trajectory over the Strait of Hormuz. The launch, which is in defiance of international resolutions, can only be seen as a direct challenge to President Trump’s authority and the United States’ willingness to do something about the biggest problem in the Middle East.

  22. CBC – Scheer says he won’t discuss ‘caucus dynamics’ as calls grow for Bernier to be booted

Conservative Party ‘hasn’t changed much since the time of Stephen Harper,’ PM Trudeau says

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer refused to say Thursday whether he’s considering removing his former leadership rival, Maxime Bernier, from the party’s caucus after the Quebec MP sent out a series of controversial tweets on diversity and multiculturalism.

Speaking to reporters in Regina, Scheer said Bernier doesn’t speak for the party and he wants a unified caucus with the next federal election only a year away. Scheer said Conservatives will use that election campaign to pitch a different vision of immigration and diversity than the one being pushed by the current Liberal government.

He did not condemn Bernier’s tweets — in which the Conservative MP accused the governing Liberals of pursuing a policy of “extreme multiculturalism” and the “cult of victimhood” — but said the Conservative Party has a tradition of supporting diversity.

[…]Liberal Ontario MP Arif Virani, the parliamentary secretary to the minister of heritage, has sent a letter to Scheer asking him to remove Bernier from the party. “Otherwise Canadians will be forced to conclude that you accept his backward views?,” he wrote.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh also has called on Scheer to strongly denounce Bernier, calling his rhetoric a “dangerous message” to send to Canadians of diverse backgrounds.[…]

  23. Russian strategic bombers deploy near Alaska

MOSCOW (AP) — The Russian military says that two nuclear-capable strategic bombers have flown to the easternmost Chukotka Peninsula, near Alaska, as part of an air force exercise.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that the Tu-160 bombers flew about 7,000 kilometers (4,350 Miles) from their home base near Saratov in southwestern Russia to Anadyr, on Chukotka, before returning to their home base. The ministry said the mission was the first time the bombers had flown to Chukotka, which faces Alaska across the Bering Strait.

The ministry said the air force exercise also involved the Tu-95 strategic bombers and tanker planes.

The Russian military has increased the intensity and scope of its drills amid strain in relations with the U.S. and its allies. The flight demonstrated that Russian bombers could be deployed close to the U.S.

The Rev. Gregory Seal Livingston, an activist pastor in the Chicago area, is planning a demonstration on Labor Day (Sept. 3) to block off the roads to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
    What are the details?

According to WBBM-TV, Livingston — who helped to organize an anti-violence march at Lake Shore Drive on Aug. 2 — plans to amp up the movement’s anti-violence presence by blocking off the roads to one of the most heavily trafficked airports in the U.S.

The demonstration would prevent traffic from coming in and out of the airport.

Livingston demands that Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D) resign over the city’s out-of-control violence. He also wants Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson to resign over the conditions and is calling for more money to be funneled into the city’s more vulnerable areas — specifically the west and south sides of Chicago.

OH MY…!!! Hillary WON’T BE SLEEPING WELL As Ex-Clinton Aide Mark Penn Just CONFESSED THIS ON LIVE!

    • WaPo – Revoke my security clearance, too, Mr. President

William H. McRaven, a retired Navy admiral, was commander of the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command from 2011 to 2014. He oversaw the 2011 Navy SEAL raid in Pakistan that killed al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

      Dear Mr. President:

Former CIA director John Brennan, whose security clearance you revoked on Wednesday, is one of the finest public servants I have ever known. Few Americans have done more to protect this country than John. He is a man of unparalleled integrity, whose honesty and character have never been in question, except by those who don’t know him.

Therefore, I would consider it an honor if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so I can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency.

Like most Americans, I had hoped that when you became president, you would rise to the occasion and become the leader this great nation needs.

A good leader tries to embody the best qualities of his or her organization. A good leader sets the example for others to follow. A good leader always puts the welfare of others before himself or herself.

Your leadership, however, has shown little of these qualities. Through your actions, you have embarrassed us in the eyes of our children, humiliated us on the world stage and, worst of all, divided us as a nation.

If you think for a moment that your McCarthy-era tactics will suppress the voices of criticism, you are sadly mistaken. The criticism will continue until you become the leader we prayed you would be.

“It is unjustifiable to be ignorant of the country of which you want to be a national,” said the court according to the Spanish outlet.

“Police have identified the suspect as a 26-year-old man from Somalia. The city of Offenburg only has 60,000 people but is regarded as a crime hotspot.

A doctor was stabbed to death in his own practice on Thursday in a seemingly unprovoked attack in the south-western German city of Offenburg.

A 26-year-old man allegedly entered the surgery without an appointment and attacked the doctor and an assistant. The assistant was injured during the early morning attack.

He then fled the scene, prompting a manhunt involving more than 20 police cars, helicopters and a canine unit, and was soon caught.

Police identified the suspect as a man from Somalia. They said he left the knife behind at the scene.

The city of 60,000 is considered a crime hotspot in the state of Baden-Württemberg .
