Up to 30,000 ISIS fighters still exist in Iraq and Syria despite jihadist defeat
Among these are thousands of active foreign terrorist fighters, UN report says
A ‘significant number’ of foreign fighters have made their way to Afghanistan

Between 20,000 and 30,000 Islamic State fighters remain in Iraq and Syria despite the jihadist group’s defeat and a halt in the flow of foreigners joining its ranks, according to a UN report released Monday.

The report by UN sanctions monitors estimates that between 3,000 and 4,000 IS jihadists were based in Libya while some of the key operatives in the extremist group were being relocated to Afghanistan.

Member-states told the monitors that the total IS membership in Iraq and Syria was ‘between 20,000 and 30,000 individuals, roughly equally distributed between the two countries.’

    True Pundit – August 14, 2018

    Excerpt:

Investigative Journalist Jen Moore was found dead in a suburban Washington D.C. hotel room Monday, according to police and shocked and distraught friends and colleagues.

Moore died of an apparent seizure. Police are closely investigating the cause of death after former FBI Agent Robyn Gritz, a friend of Moore’s, made inquiries with homicide detectives Monday afternoon in Prince Georges County, Maryland. Preliminary reports from police said the death was not the result of suicide.

  3. Turkey: Erdogan announces boycott on iPhones and other US products

Turkey will enforce boycott American-made electronic products, said the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Tuesday

“There is an economic attack against Turkey. Earlier such things were done in secret and now they are open to us. We can react in two ways: economically and politically,” said Erdogan.

  4. China fired six shots at the United States that could start World War III

Donald Trump was elected to put America First and take on China.

So far, President Trump has lived up to his promise.

But China responded and their navy fired six shots that could lead to World War III.

China has been feeling the heat from Donald Trump’s tariffs.

Trump slapped China with 25 percent tariffs on hundreds of millions of dollars in goods to correct a decade long trade imbalance.

China appears to be losing the trade war as the government backed down on threats to impose retaliatory tariffs on crude oil.

But China is finding other ways to flex their muscles.

Chinese naval vessels fired six warning shots at a U.S. fighter plane flying over islands in the South China Sea.

  5. Charges Filed in Florida ‘Stand Your Ground’ Shooting

Prosecutors have charged Michael Drejka – who shot and killed a man over a parking spot in July – in a reversal of the sheriff’s decision not to bring charges in the incident that prompted debate over “stand your ground” laws.

Drejka, 47, was arrested and charged with manslaughter Monday by the district attorney for Pinellas County in western Florida, authorities said. He is being held on $100,000 bond in the killing of Markeis McGlockton, 28, in Clearwater.

The July 19 shooting was the culmination of a heated but brief exchange between the two men. Drejka confronted McGlockton’s girlfriend about her vehicle parked in a disabled spot at a convenience store while McGlockton was inside with their 5-year-old son.

  7. Professor: Native Dutch Need To Get Used To Being a Minority (breitbart, Aug 14, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/08/14/professor-native-dutch-need-to-get-used-to-being-a-minority/

“Dutch professor Maurice Crul has said that with the ever increasing number of migrants and migrant background people living in the Netherlands, that the native Dutch should just get used to being a minority.

A professor at the Free University in Amsterdam, Crul says that in the larger cities in the Netherlands white Dutch are already a minority and that such trends will follow in smaller cities and towns as well, Dutch newspaper Trouw reports.

“In Amsterdam the time has come: there this group is a minority. Only one in three young people under the age of fifteen is of Dutch descent,” Professor Crul said and added, “If you want to know how the integration is going, you also have to look at that group. Who adapts to whom if there is no majority anymore?”

“The first guest workers were a small migrant group in a dominant culture. With the second and third generation that is an outdated idea. Integration now works in two directions,” he said adding, “This way a Turkish Dutch person can become your new manager. Or your child is in the minority at school. That is the new reality that the old ‘dominant majority’ will be confronted with.”

Crul, along with a team of eight researchers, recently received 2.5 million euros from the European Research Council to conduct studies on the subject in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Antwerp, Malmö and Vienna.

The remarks echo those made by German politician Barbara John last week who wrote that Germans should not be worried about becoming minorities in their own cities.

Professor John, a member of Chancellor Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU), wrote, “The trend towards the rapidly growing proportion of migrants is irreversible.”

She also referenced Rotterdam and Amsterdam as cities where native peoples were a minority despite issues both cities have faced with migrant communities from Turkish rioters to Moroccan gang violence.

Other academics, like Professor Angelika Redder, have even advocated that Germans should learn Arabic rather than expect new migrants to simply learn German saying, “we can do something that shows us as being open to other languages. This may be enriching for both sides.””

    • Professor Maurice Crul needs to get used to having native Dutch people giving him doses of parking lot therapy at every opportunity.

Other academics, like Professor Angelika Redder, have even advocated that Germans should learn Arabic…

      • How much did the Dutch resist the Nazis?
94% of Dutch Jews died in the Holocaust, more than in collaborationist France. More than in Mussolini’s Italy.

I used to feel a certain loyalty because we took refuge there before coming to “New” Amsterdam. The more I read, the less I like Holland.

        • During WWII the Dutch Resistance was taken over by the Gestapo, every agent the allies sent to Holland was caught when they landed and all of the equipment dropped was taken by the Germans.

Having said that the Dutch who made it to Britain were brave and fought hard to free their nation.

  8. Erdogan’s Warning to the US
What kind of ally and NATO member is Turkey exactly?
    August 14, 2018
    Joseph Klein

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the autocratic Islamist president of Turkey, wrote an op-ed article published on Monday by the New York Times, entitled “Turkey’s View of the Crisis With the U.S.” He complained that the United States does not respect “Turkey’s sovereignty” and “Turkish democracy.” He warned that failure to reverse the “trend” of “unilateral actions against Turkey by the United States” will require Turkey “to start looking for new friends and allies.” The fact is, however, that under Erdogan’s leadership, Turkey had already embarked on its own trend away from being a reliable NATO member and friend of the United States well before its recent disputes with the Trump administration.

Erdogan’s bill of particulars against U.S. policy set forth in his op-ed column included American support for Kurdish forces in Syria. Although the Syrian Kurds have been fighting effectively against ISIS, Erdogan treats them as terrorists more dangerous than ISIS because they are allied with the Kurds in Turkey seeking autonomy. Erdogan objected to what he considered the U.S.’s failure to adequately condemn the failed coup attempt against Erdogan’s government in 2016. He complained about the U.S.’s rejection of Turkey’s requests to turn over the presumed ring-leader of the coup attempt, Fethullah Gulen, who currently resides in Pennsylvania. Finally, Erdogan expressed defiance over the recent sanctions imposed by the Trump administration in response to the Turkish government’s refusal to free Pastor Andrew Brunson, a U.S. citizen.

  10. Jordanian immigrant gets death for Houston ‘honor killings’ (abcnews, Aug 14, 2018)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/jordanian-immigrant-death-houston-honor-killings-57175187

“A Jordanian immigrant was sentenced to death on Tuesday after being convicted in what Texas prosecutors described as the honor killings of his daughter’s American husband and her friend who was an Iranian women’s rights activist.

Ali Mahwood-Awad Irsan was found guilty of capital murder last month in the 2012 fatal shootings of his son-in-law, Coty Beavers, and his daughter’s friend, Gelareh Bagherzadeh. The Harris County jury deliberated for just 35 minutes — after five weeks of testimony — before reaching the verdict in Houston.

The same jury deliberated about nine hours before sentencing him to death for the killings, which occurred about 11 months apart. When the jury’s punishment verdict was announced, Irsan slumped slightly while family members of the victims wiped tears from their eyes.

Prosecutors alleged that Irsan, a 60-year-old conservative Muslim, became enraged after his daughter married Beavers, a 28-year-old Christian, and converted to Christianity. Investigators said Bagherzadeh had encouraged her friend to marry Beavers.

Irsan’s wife, Shmou Alrawabdeh, testified at trial that her husband tried to “clean his honor” with the killings. She told jurors her husband also intended to kill their daughter.

Bagherzadeh was targeted first. Police said Irsan, his wife and their son, Nasim, followed the 30-year-old Bagherzadeh to her parents’ home in January 2012, and that Nasim Irsan shot her in her car. Nasim Irsan is awaiting trial on a capital murder charge…”

  11. Why is Nobody Talking about the Union for the Mediterranean?

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12838/union-for-the-mediterranean

In July, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) celebrated its 10-year anniversary. Most Europeans, however, are unlikely to have heard about the Union, let alone the anniversary. The media rarely reports on the UfM and its activities.

The participating countries in the UfM are the 28 European Union (EU) member states and the Southern Mediterranean countries, which include Albania, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, “Palestine”, Syria (temporarily suspended), Tunisia and Turkey. Libya has observer status in the UfM. The UfM is chaired by a “co-presidency” shared between the European Union and Jordan. The UfM Secretariat maintains the daily operations of the UfM and is run by a Secretary General, presently Nasser Kamel (Egypt).

The UfM was launched by a decision of the UfM Heads of State and Government in Paris in July 2008, and constitutes an institutionalization of the Barcelona Process, which began in November 1995 with the signing of the Barcelona Declaration.

On July 22, two youngsters — 18-year-old Reese Fallon and 10-year-old Julianna Kozis — were killed, and another 13 people, ranging in age from 17 to 59, were wounded in a brutal shooting attack at a number of restaurants on Danforth Avenue, in Toronto’s popular Greektown neighborhood. The perpetrator, who was later identified as Faisal Hussain, killed himself after exchanging gunfire with police.

Hussain’s firing stance and ability to reload his 40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun while on the move suggested that he had experience with firearms.

The following morning, the Toronto Police Service issued a statement that indicated they had already identified the shooter, yet did not release his name until later that afternoon. Meanwhile, a statement allegedly from the Hussain family made the rounds in a number of news outlets.

The fact that the full details of the treatment to which Sheikh Dweesh was exposed suggests that it was extremely inhumane. He was arrested less than a day after posting critical comments about Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman on social media.

The agency said the Algerians applied either for themselves or for their children and grandchildren by presenting a “Veteran in the French army” card or what is known as the certificate of the nation’s recognition.

Unemployment in Algeria stood at 11.70 per cent in the third quarter of 2017 with the youth increasing looking for ways to emigrate in the hopes of finding jobs and a better quality of life.”

The verdict can be appealed before the Court of Cassation.

Investigations revealed that the defendants plotted to recruit new Al-Azhar University students who were unknown by security services with the aim of carrying out “revolutionary acts” inside and outside of the university in support of the Brotherhood.

The defendants planned to achieve this by providing financial support and covering residential and study expenses for the new recruits.

    • Good move.

I’m bored with YT/social media amateurs meandering for 12+ minutes – even attractive people with fresh material devoted to our pet topics. It isn’t enough anymore to find – halleluja! – a young adult who thinks straight. (12 min. is absolute max.)

Great news that there’s competition these days. So they need to edit themselves, sharpen their arguments and presentation. For example, the guy above (with the cap, “Why did they censor…”) wants 21+ minutes of my life. Sorry.

Lauren’s grown beyond that phase. More power to her!
