    • Brilliant!

Anything that swiftly carries our wounded warriors to safety and rapid medical assistance is of inestimable value.

I can only suppose that the vehicle’s name, “Cormorant” comes from the ancient method of using such birds to fish with. A ring around the neck prevented them from swallowing the fish and it was trained to disgorge its “passenger” when returning to the boat.

    • A friend of mine’s daughter is working on the Da Vinci project.

The possibility of tele-remote surgical robotically implemented operations performed via satellite or cellular communications is what robotics is all about. Just like the Cormorant rescue vehicle (H/T: Richard), these are the interventions during that “Golden Hour” which make every difference between life and death.

My only question is whether Da Vinvi’s technology came about from supercomputer inventor, Seymour Cray. I personally toured his Colorado Springs (ex-INMOS – where I installed a plasma etcher well over a decade earlier) Cray Research facility and saw assembled prototype modules of the CRAY III ultra-machine.

      Can you say, “Gold Plated”?

This bloody little full-64 bit, floating point, decimal, number-cruncher was designed for multi-gigahertz data rates and, literally, every electrical contact had to be coated with gold or interconnected with gold bondwires.

According to legend, the CRAY III’s electrical contact density could not possibly be soldered or interconnected by human hands and required robotic wire-bonding. This automation was designed to such high-performance specifications that it easily may have been a baseline design for the Da Vinci surgical tele-robot.

SIDEBAR: Few people know that those remotely-operated “arms” used to handle highly radioactive materials (behind heavily-leaded glass windows) are called “Waldoes”, because of Robert Heinlein’s story, “Waldo and Magic, Inc.”. In it, his paraplegic protagonist goes into orbit and, while weightless, invents these manipulators to enable further inventions and management of his environment.

Wave hello to the Da Vinci surgical tele-robot. We in the West are fortunate beyond imagination. I’m continually obliged to blame the US Founding Fathers.

  1. JUNE 03 2018 – George SOROS in Trento – Italy : »»» — Matteo Salvini colluded with RUSSIA – bankrolled by PUTIN …«««

    ======================================

A discapito dell’Europa. La stessa denuncia degli accordi con l’Iran – ha detto ancora Soros dal palco del Teatro Sociale di Trento – mettono in crisi non solo il più grande successo di Barack Obama in politica estera ma anche l’alleanza atlantica”.
Per una volta non si può proprio dire che non ci sia nulla di nuovo sul fronte occidentale.

JUNE 03 2018 – Matteo Salvini in Catania – Sicily

    • euronews – Salvini returns to campaign trail

Italy’s new interior minister visits Sicily ahead of municipal elections

    • Probably. Putin supported Marine Le Pen and Nigel Farage, among others.

      But so what?

Campaign finance laws are intentionally full of holes. Depends on the country, but it’s hard to track every NGO, corporate media franchise, “family foundation” that can be a mouthpiece for a platform. (Or smear campaign, v. Steele Dossier vs. PTrump.)

Now that the Russia-Russia-Collusion Saga is collapsing [finally] here in the US – Soros wants to take it on the road?

Soros [and 0] ran full-throttle campaigns for elections of chiefs-of-state all over the world – Romania, Guinea, Albania, etc.

Openly against incumbent Pres. Goodluck Jonathan in Nigeria – who lost to a brutal tard. Mr. Orban and Bibi won in spite of the concentrated Soros artillery.

    • Will Sweden have its Trump Moment in September?

      If it doesn’t, it’s @ss is in a mile-wide sling.

    • While I certainly appreciate Peterson’s choice in focusing upon truth, there are so many other astonishing quotes by Samuel Clemens that it’s difficult to imagine there weren’t more abbreviated* examples.

      * Why is “abbreviated” such a long word?!?

      Let’s try:

Mankind is the only animal that blushes, or needs to!

Twain described a Mississippi Paddle-Wheel Riverboat to be, “as beautiful as a wedding cake but without the complications”.

  2. Berlin Cathedral ON LOCKDOWN – ‘rampaging’ knifeman shot by armed police in city centre (express, Jun 3, 2018)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/968834/Berlin-shooting-emergency-Germany-news-police-shoot-man-Berlin-cathedral

“A ‘RAMPAGING’ knifeman has been shot by German police at Berlin Cathedral and the area was put on lockdown this afternoon.

A police officer was also hit by a stray bullet during the incident, which took place at around 4pm local time.

Video footage posted on social media showed armed policemen cordoning off the area around the cathedral.

Two ambulances were parked at its entrance, a popular tourist attraction in the German capital.

Berlin Police tweeted the man had been “rampaging” inside the cathedral and was shot in the legs.

The incident broke out this afternoon when a member of cathedral staff saw the man, thought to be 53, brandishing a knife.

Police said this afternoon: “An employee of Berlin Cathedral called police because he saw a man with a knife.

“At the time there were about 100 people there…”

  4. Philippines eyes greater regulation of Islamic schools (abcnews, Jun 3, 2018)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/philippines-eyes-greater-regulation-islamic-schools-55615410

“The Philippine defense secretary said Sunday that authorities there will standardize teaching in both public and private Islamic schools in the wake of a militant siege last year that raised fears of greater radicalization in the country.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the Philippines will implement an “institutionalized madrassa system” with standard curriculum and greater oversight from the Department of Education.

Lorenzana said some such schools were found to be run by people with extremist beliefs, making them funnels for the discreet funding of radical activities.

Lorenzana was addressing a security conference in Singapore attended by U.S. Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, defense officials and academics from 43 countries.

He added that the results of patrols targeting Islamic militants in the Sulu Sea were encouraging. Since last June, the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia have been patrolling an area bounded by Sabah and the southern Philippines, where militants intended to establish a caliphate.

A five-month siege of the city of Marawi last year left more than 1,100 people dead and 200,000 displaced.”

    • Philippines eyes greater regulation of Islamic schools

Yet another country slowly blinks awake in the cold dawn of Islamic global terrorism.

Much as with how Europe is gradually expanding its border fortifications, look for a slowly constricting “noose” of nations in immediate proximity to Muslim majority countries which create migration barriers to prevent Muslim infiltration.

Thank you, no. I just ate…

  5. SPAIN – ‘Devils’ leap over new-borns as baby jumping festival kicks off

Scores of people gathered in Castrillo de Murcia on Sunday to celebrate the ‘El salto del Colacho’ baby jumping festival during which babies are said to be absolved of their original sins by ‘devil-men’ who jump over them.

The religious festival, which dates back to 1620, is part of the annual Corpus Christi celebrations.

Babies born in the previous year are placed on mattresses for red and yellow-costumed devil-men, known as ‘Colachos’, to leap over.

Once the ‘jumping’ part of the ceremony ends, a priest blesses the new-borns.

    • Less traumatic than circumcision.
As far as I know, no baby’s ever been injured in this silly, sorta-pagan Spanish family tradition. It’s just a lot of fun.

But the Pope doesn’t like it.

  6. Iran’s Top General Urges Psych War Tactics to Counter US ‘Unending’ Hostility (tasnimnews, Jun 3, 2018)

“TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The US enmity towards the Iranian nation and the Islamic Revolution will never end, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said, calling for constant intelligence readiness and psychological operations to counteract the US plots.

Addressing a group of Police commanders in Tehran on Sunday, Major General Baqeri pointed to the US government’s unrelenting hostility towards the Iranian nation, saying one of the harsh realities on the ground is that the incumbent White House leaders are among “the most anti-Iranian critters” in the history of the US.

All of the US officials are seeking to harm the Islamic Republic and have no compunction about expressing their hostility towards Iran, the general added.

Warning against the enemy’s “diverse and complicated plots” for damaging the Islamic Revolution, Major General Baqeri stressed that the Iranian Armed Forces need to boost intelligence power and monitor all moves by the internal and foreign adversaries.

The Iranian military forces should formulate and employ cultural and propaganda plans and work on “psychological operation” tactics to achieve success in countering the hostile plots, he underlined.

In comments in April 2017, the general had announced that every effort will be made to counter the anti-Iran psychological warfare waged by the US and its allies.

“By God’s grace and in line with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s defense doctrine… we will not back off for a moment from the process of strengthening the country’s deterrent power and defense might, will not give in to pressure, the propaganda war and the psychological operation by the US and its allies, and will keep fighting with the upper hand,” the top officer had noted.”

    https://www.khaama.com/taliban-haqqani-leaders-and-mullah-omars-son-reportedly-visited-karachi-05303/

“The supreme of the Taliban group Mullah Hebatullah Akhundzada and his two deputies have reportedly visited the Karachi city of Pakistan during the recent days.

The 209th Shaheen Corps in the North, citing credible sources, reported that Mullah Hebatullah and his two deputies, Sirajuddin Haqqani and Mullah Yaqoob visited the port city of Pakistan.

Sirajuddin Haqqani is the deputy of Mullah Hebatullah as well as the leader of the notorious Haqqani terrorist network while Mullah Yaqoob, the son of the former Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad, is operating as the military commission chief of the group.

The source further added that the top Taliban leaders have reportedly visited Karachi city on invitation of the Pakistani officials.

The sources also claim that the Taliban leaders have apparently visited the Karachi city to hatch plans for their future attacks as the group has recently launched its spring offensive.

This comes as the Afghan and US officials have long been insisting that the leadership councils of the Taliban and the notorious Haqqani terrorist network are based in Pakistan from where they plan and coordinate deadly attacks in Afghanistan.

However, the Pakistani officials reject the claims and emphasize that the US is attempting to divert attention from its failures in Afghanistan by criticizing Islamabad.”

  10. Half pupils flunk school in crime-hit Swedish districts (thelocal, Jun 3. 2018)
    https://www.thelocal.se/20180603/more-than-half-pupils-in-crime-hit-swedish-districts-leave-school-with-no

“More than half the pupils in many of Sweden’s ‘specially vulnerable’ regions leave elementary school with no qualification, a study carried out by Sweden’s TT newswire has found.

“We’re starting to approach rock-bottom when it comes to school inequalities,” Anders Trumberg, a schhols researcher at Örebro University, told the newswire.

“Very often, pupils have social problems which spill over into school, making it hard for teachers to focus on teaching and pedagogy.”

Sweden’s police have classed 23 districts in the country as ‘specially vulnerable’, meaning a heavy criminal presence makes police work difficult and residents cannot rely on the criminal justice system.

In a majority of schools in the Gothenburg’s five ‘specially vulnerable’ districts, TT found, less than half of pupils leave elementary school with a qualification. The situation is similar in Seved and Rosengård in Malmö, and in Stockholm suburbs like Husby and Rinkeby.

In Bergsjöskolan in the Gothenberg suburb of Bergsjön, 69.8 percent of 15-year-olds finished the ninth, final class of elementary school without a qualification. And in Sjumilaskolan in the suburb of Biskopsgården 67.3 percent did so.

On average across Sweden, 17.5 percent of pupils fail to leave elementary school with a qualification.

Trumberg said Sweden’s school choice system contributed to the problem by allowing students from less troubled backgrounds to avoid the worst performing schools.

“It’s hard for today’s school system to handle the inequalities. In practice this beings enormous consequences for individual schools which are quite simply drained of pupils motivated to study.”

In many schools the situation has worsened over the past five years.

Manne Gerell, a criminologist from Malmö University, said that those who fail to leave school with a qualification were much more likely to be drawn into organised crime, making it hard to break the negative spiral in these districts.

“It’s about a pretty big volume of new youth coming in every year,” he said. “This of course makes it difficult to build a positive development in these areas.”

Trumberg said there was no “quick fix” for the problem.

“School is the arena where these inequalities become visible. But breaking the the underlying structural problems, such as child poverty, is not the responsibility of schools, but of labour market policy,” he said.

“Society needs to work broadly and over the long-term in a huge number of different policy areas to turn the situation around.””
