  1. The Threat of Erdogan
And what the U.S. must do about it.
    May 29, 2018
    Joseph Puder

Turkey’s Dictator Recep Tayyip Erdogan, assembled with great urgency Sunni-Muslim leaders from the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, as well as Iran’s Shiite President Hassan Rouhani. The assembled representatives of the 57 member-states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held this “emergency meeting” in Istanbul, Turkey, by virtue of Turkey’s holding the presidency of the OIC. The ostensible reason for the meeting was the Gaza “March of the Return,” and the U.S. embassy relocation to Jerusalem.

According to Al-Jazeera, the Qatari based network also funded by the Qatari regime, Erdogan called on Muslim leaders to “unite and confront Israel.” He mentioned “70 years of Israeli occupation,” wrongly charging that Israel, before 1967, “occupied” Palestinian lands. Apparently, in the dictator’s mind, the UN never voted for partition of Palestine in 1947. Erdogan, obfuscating the fact that the Arab community in Palestine rejected the UN partition plan, while the Jewish community in Palestine accepted it, fulminated against the Jewish state, distortimg history in his blind hatred. He conveniently disregarded the fact that the Arab armies of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and contingents from the Islamic world along with the Arabs of Palestine attacked and sought to annihilate the newborn Jewish state. Actually it was the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan that occupied the lands allotted to the Arab-Palestinians by the UN, which they (the Palestinians) rejected in November, 1947.

Erdogan shamelessly compared Israeli treatment of Palestinians to the Nazi treatment of Jews during the Holocaust. He spouted that, “The children of those who were subjected to all sorts of torture in concentration camps during WWII are now attacking Palestinians with methods that put the Nazis to shame.” Once again Erdogan twisted reality that could only make neo-Nazis in Germany feel redeemed. Jews in concentration camps could only wish to have had the opportunity to change places with the Palestinians. Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Mufti of Jerusalem and leader of the Arab-Muslim community in Palestine, was in fact Hitler’s ally and urged the Nazis to expedite the murder of the Jews.

  2. Elon Musk and the Media’s War on its Critics
    May 28, 2018
    Daniel Greenfield

The media is unfair. But I don’t think they’ve been unfair to Elon Musk and Tesla.

We are talking about a company that operates within a reality distortion field in which the middle class pays for cars for the rich and the guy at the top gets compared to Iron Man. The media has been eager to give Elon Musk fawning coverage. Until it didn’t.

What happened next is revealing of both Musk and the media.

Musk lashed out at the media. The media accused him of being just like Trump. Numerous attacks followed. From the media’s perspective, it won the slapfight when it showed that Musk had quoted a site linked to a cult. Even though there’s no obvious way to spot that from the site.

  6. Acute shortage of space in German prisons

The German prisons are almost full. In addition, the number of attacks on prison personnel is growing steadily. A group of perpetrators is of particular concern to the judiciary.

According to a media report, there is a shortage of space in German prisons. A survey by the Funke media group’s newspapers among the justice ministries of the 16 federal states showed a utilization rate of up to 100 percent, for example in Baden-Württemberg.

In Bavaria, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg and Rhineland-Palatinate, capacity utilization averaged well over 90 percent last year. According to the report, even at an occupancy rate of 85 to 90 percent, experts speak of full occupancy.

Several countries also reported an increase in attacks on prison personnel. In North Rhine-Westphalia, for example, the number of assaults more than doubled from 34 to 72 between 2016 and 2017. In Bavaria, however, the number has dropped from 65 to 50.

Number of imprisoned Islamists increases rapidly

A group of prisoners – Islamists – are of particular concern to the prison system, the media report continues. According to the authorities, their share in Hesse, for example, has more than tripled since 2013.

The federal chairman of the German Federation of Prison Employees, René Müller, told the Funke newspapers that the prison system in Germany is currently completely overloaded. Union faction leader Volker Kauder (CDU) demanded to improve the conditions in German prisons. “The penal system must not be neglected any further.”

  7. Saudi preacher Musa Al-Qarni transferred to the mental hospital (memo, May 29, 2018)
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20180529-saudi-preacher-musa-al-qarni-transferred-to-the-mental-hospital/

“Saudi preacher Musa Al-Qarni, a professor of Islamic jurisprudence and former director of the Islamic University of Science and Technology, had a stroke in prison and has been moved to a psychiatric hospital as a result of negligence in prison, online activists have said.

The Twitter account M3takl (detained), which focuses on the plight of Saudi prisoners, wrote: “Urgent news. It is confirmed that prisoner Dr. Musa Al-Qarni is suffering from a stroke that caused him to lose control of his mind because of the health negligence in prison.”

“Dr Musa Al-Qarni unjustifiably attacked the prisoner who shared a cell with him several times. He was then transferred to solitary confinement and after more strange behaviour, it was revealed that he had suffered a stroke and he has been moved to a mental hospital. Isn’t this a big crime?” the activists added.

Al-Qarni’s treatment, they continued, is similar to that of Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Wahibi two years ago, adding that “violations continue in and outside prisons”.

It pointed out that “the deliberate health negligence that caused the brain damage to Al-Qurani, brings to mind what had previously happened with two years ago, where the same thing happened… Indeed, violations continue inside and outside the prisons.”

Sixty-four-year-old Al-Qarni was handed a 20-year jail term in 2011 in addition to a ban on travel for 20 years following his release after he was found guilty of being part of a secret organisation which aimed to spread unrest in the country in an effort to ascend to power.”

  8. Erdogan commemorates Constantinople’s capture (ansamed, May 29, 2018)

“Several demonstrations have been organized on Tuesday in Istanbul to commemorate the 565th anniversary of the capture of Constantinople by the Ottoman army led by Sultan Mohammed II, called ‘the conqueror’ (Fatih in Turkish). The most anticipated event , to be attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is organized by the city of Istanbul starting at 8:34 pm local time, when sunset prayers are scheduled to end daytime fasting during the holy Islamic month of Ramadan.

The event is scheduled to include a concert of traditional Turkish music at 7:30 om, followed by a 3D video mapping with images reproducing the historic battle. The event will take place on a 50-meter-long platform in front of the historic site of Constantinople.

Ever since taking power, Erdogan has worked to recuperate Turkey’s Ottoman heritage, increasing the profile of commemorations of the takeover of Constantinople on May 29, 1453. In a message on Twitter on Tuesday morning, his spokesman Ibrahim Kalin celebrated the event that ”changed the course of history”, claiming that ”Europeans have never forgiven the Ottomans for reconquering Istanbul”.”
